(CoCrFeNi)95Nb5 high entropy alloy(HEA)coatings were successfully fabricated on a substrate of Q235 steel by laser cladding technology.These(CoCrFeNi)95Nb5 HEA coatings possess excellent properties, particularly corrosion resistance, which is clearly superior to that of some typical bulk HEA and common engineering alloys. In order to obtain appropriate laser cladding preparation process parameters, the effects of laser energy density on the microstructure, microhardness, and corrosion resistance of(CoCrFeNi)95Nb5 HEA coating were closely studied. Results showed that as the laser energy density increases, precipitation of the Laves phase in(CoCrFeNi)95Nb5 HEA coating gradually decreases, and diffusion of the Fe element in the substrate intensifies, affecting the integrity of the(CoCrFeNi)95Nb5 HEA.This decreases the microhardness of(CoCrFeNi)95Nb5 HEA coatings. Moreover, the relative content of Cr2O3,Cr(OH)3,and Nb2O5 in the surface passive film of the coating decreases with increasing energy density, causing corrosion resistance to decrease. This study demonstrates the controllability of a high-performance HEA coating using laser cladding technology, which has significance for the laser cladding preparation of other CoCrFeNi-system HEA coatings. 展开更多

This experiment obtained different laser energy density(LED) by changing SLM molding process parameters. The surface morphology, surface quality, and microstructure of as-fabricated samples were studied. The effects of scanning speed, hatching space, and laser power on surface quality were analyzed, and the optimal LED range for surface quality was determined. The results show that pores and spherical particles appear on the sample’s surface when low LED is applied, while there are lamellar structures on the sides of the samples. Cracks appear on the sample’s surface, and the splash phenomenon increases when a high LED is taken. At the same time, a large amount of unmelted powder adhered to the side of the sample. The surface quality is the best when the LED is 150-170 J/mm^(3). The preferred hatch space is currently 0.05-0.09 mm, the laser power is 200-350 W, and the average surface roughness value is(15.1±3) μm.The average surface hardness reaches HV404±HV3, higher than the forging standard range of HV340-HV395.Increasing the LED within the experiment range can increase the surface hardness, yet an excessively high LED will not further increase the surface hardness. The microstructure is composed of needle-like α’-phases with a length of about 20μm, in a crisscross ‘N’ shape, when the LED is low. The β-phase grain boundary is not obvious, and the secondaryphase volume fraction is high;when the LED is high, the α’-phase of the microstructure is in the form of coarse slats, and the secondary-phase is composed of a small amount of secondary α’-phase, the tertiary α’-phase and the fourth α’-phase disappear, and the volume fraction of the secondary-phase becomes low. 展开更多

An improved indirect scheme for laser positron generation is proposed. The positron yields in high-ZZ metal targets irradiated by laser produced electrons from near-critical density plasmas and underdense plasma are investigated numerically. It is found that the positron yield is mainly affected by the number of electrons of energies up to several hundreds of MeV. Using near-critical density targets for electron acceleration, the number of high energy electrons can be increased dramatically. Through start-to-end simulations, it is shown that up to 6.78×10106.78×1010 positrons can be generated with state-of-the-art Joule-class femtosecond laser systems. 展开更多

We perform an experimental study of two-dimensional(2D) electron density profiles of the laser-induced plasma plumes in air by ordinarily laboratorial interferometry. The electron density distributions measured show a feature of hollow core. To illustrate the feature, we present a theoretical investigation by using dynamics analysis. In the simulation, the propagation of laser pulse with the evolution of electron density is utilized to evaluate ionization of air target for the plasma-formation stage. In the plasma-expansion stage, a simple adiabatic fluid dynamics is used to calculate the evolution of plasma outward expansion. The simulations show good agreements with experimental results, and demonstrate an effective way of determining 2D density profiles of the laser-induced plasma plume in gas. 展开更多

We report on the room-temperature cascade laser (QCL) at λ -4.7μm. cw operation of a surface grating Both grating design and material distributed feedback (DFB) quantum optimization are used to decrease the threshold current density and to increase the output power. For a high-reflectivity-coated 13-μm-wide and 4- mm-long laser, high wall-plug efficiency of 6% is obtained at 20℃ from a single facet producing over I W of ew output power. The threshold current density of DFB QCL is as low as 1.13kA/cm^2 at 10℃ and 1.34kA/cm2 at 30℃ in cw mode. Stable single-mode emission with a side-mode suppression ratio of about 30 dB is observed in tile working temperature range of 20-50℃. 展开更多

Three-dimensional parts of the 30 CrMnSiA steel were successfully fabricated using selective laser melting(SLM). The microstructures and mechanical properties of the SLM-processed 30 CrMnSiA samples were investigated by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicate that the microstructures of the 30 CrMnSiA samples consist mainly of lath martensite and acicular martensite. The value of the surface roughness decreases with increasing laser energy density(LED) before it reaches a minimum and then increases with further increasing LED. The relative density, microhardness and ultimate tensile strength of the SLM-processed samples initially increase and then decrease with increasing LED. By taking the relative density, surface roughness, microhardness and ultimate tensile strength into account, the optimized LED should be in the range of 46.15–51.28 J mm^(-3) for the SLM-processed30 CrMnSiA alloys. In addition, the differences in the microstructures and mechanical properties between the conventionally wrought 30 CrMnSiA sample and SLM-processed 30 CrMnSiA samples were also studied. 展开更多

This work studied the preparation of starting powder mixture influenced by milling time and its effect on the particle morphology (especially the shape) and, consequently, density and compression properties of in situ Ti-TiB composite materials produced by selective laser melting (SLM) technology. Starting powder composite system was prepared by mixing 95 wt% commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) and 5 wt% titanium diboride (TiB2) powders and subsequently milled for two different times (i.e. 2 h and 4 h). The milled powder mixtures after 2 h and 4 h show nearly spherical and irregular shape, respectively. Subsequently, the resultant Ti-5 wt% TiB2 powder mixtures were used for SLM processing. Scanning electron microscopy image of the SLM-processed Ti-TiB composite samples show needle-shape TiB phase distributed across the Ti matrix, which is the product of an in-situ chemical reaction between Ti and TiB2 during SLM. The Ti-TiB composite samples prepared from 2 h and 4 h milled Ti-TiB2 powders show different relative densities of 99.5% and 95.1%, respectively. Also, the compression properties such as ultimate strength and compression strain for the 99.5% dense composite samples is 1421 MPa and 17.8%, respectively, which are superior to those (883 MPa and 5.5%, respectively) for the 95.1% dense sample. The results indicate that once Ti and TiB2 powders are connected firmly to each other and powder mixture of nearly spherical shape is obtained, there is no additional benefit in increasing the milling time and, instead, it has a negative effect on the density (i.e. increasing porosity level) of the Ti-TiB composite materials and their mechanical properties. 展开更多

Enhanced cellular uptake efficiency of nanoparticles is important for their biomedical applications, including photothermal therapy (PTT) for cancer. In this study, a one-pot method was used to construct a positively charged and magnet-responsive nanocomposite comprising reduced graphene oxide anchoring iron oxide (RGI) with a polyethylenimine (PEI) modification, to improve the efficiency of cell internalization. The surface charge can be finely tuned using PEIs of different molecular weights. The obtained RGIlsk composite (RGI modified by 1.8 kDa PEI) could load indocyanine green (ICG) at a high mass ratio of 10:3 and ablate cancer cells using low-density laser irradiation because of its positively charged surface. In addition, the hybrids of RGI1.8k and ICG could kill most cancer cells at a laser density of 0.7 W/cm2 in vitro and 0.3 W/cm2 in vivo. At the same time, cell viability could be controlled by converting the external magnetic-field direction because of the enrichment of the magnet-responsive composite in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, RGIr8k-ICGs could be used as T2-weighted magnetic resonance and infrared thermal imaging agents. Coupled with the magnetic target effect, the imaging signal could be improved significantly. Therefore, RGII^sk-ICGs represent a new highly efficient PTT and imaging agent with great potential for cancer treatment. 展开更多

The application of laser pulses with psec or shorter duration enables nonthermal efficient ultrahigh acceleration of plasma blocks with homogeneous high ion energies exceeding ion current densities of 10^(12) A cm^(-2). The effects of ultrahigh acceleration of plasma blocks with high energy proton beams are proposed for muon production in a compact magnetic fusion device. The proposed new scheme consists of an ignition fusion spark by muon catalyzed fusion(μCF) in a small mirror-like configuration where low temperature D–T plasma is trapped for a duration of 1 μs. This initial fusion spark produces sufficient alpha heating in order to initiate the fusion process in the main device. The use of a multi-fluid global particle and energy balance code allows us to follow the temporal evolution of the reaction rate of the fusion process in the device. Recent progress on the ICAN and IZEST projects for high efficient high power and high repetition rate laser systems allows development of the proposed device for clean energy production. With the proposed approaches, experiments on fusion nuclear reactions and μCF process can be performed in magnetized plasmas in existing kJ/PW laser facilities as the GEKKO-LFEX, the PETAL and the ORION or in the near future laser facilities as the ELI-NP Romanian pillar. 展开更多
