The cylinder studied is made of AISI-4340 steel and has a diameter of 14.5-mm and a length of 50-mm. The temperature distribution is discretized by using a three-dimensional numerical finite difference method. The temperature gradient of the transformation of the microstructure is generated by a laser source Nd-YAG 3.0-kW manipulated using a robotic arm programmed to control the movements of the laser source in space and in time. The experimental measurement of surface temperature and air temperature in the vicinity of the specimen allows us to determine the values of the absorption coefficient and the coefficient of heat transfer by convection, which are essential data for a precise numerical prediction of the case depth. Despite an unsteady dynamic regime at the level of convective and radiation heat losses, the analysis of the averaged results of the temperature sensors shows a consistency with the results of microhardness measurements. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach lead to an accurate and reliable mathematical model able to predict the temperature distribution in a cylindrical workpiece heat treated by laser.展开更多

The characteristics of the hardened surface depend on the physicochemical properties of the material as well as the heating system parameters. To exploit the benefits presented by the laser hardening process, it is necessary to develop an integrated strategy to control the process parameters in order to produce desired hardened surface attributes without being forced to use the traditional and fastidious trial and error procedures. This study presents a comprehensive modelling approach for predicting the hardened surface physical and geometrical attributes. The laser surface transformation hardening of cylindrical AISI 4340 steel workpieces is modeled using the conventional regression equation method as well as artificial neural network method. The process parameters included in the study are laser power, beam scanning speed, and the workpiece rotational speed. The upper and the lower limits for each parameter are chosen considering the start of the transformation hardening and the maximum hardened zone without surface melting. The resulting models are able to predict the depths representing the maximum hardness zone, the hardness drop zone, and the overheated zone without martensite transformation. Because of its ability to model highly nonlinear problems, the ANN based model presents the best modelling results and can predict the hardness profile with good accuracy.展开更多

The path plan is based on the premise of no collision and the optimization object is the shortest path. The optimization model of collision-free path is built from traveling salesman problem (TSP). Collision-free path between two machining points is calculated in configuration space (C-Space). Ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is applied to TSP of all the machining points to find the shortest path, which is simulated in virtual environment set up by IGRIP software. Virtual machining time, no-collision report, etc, are put out atter the simulation. An example on autobody die is processed in the virtual platform, the simulation results display that ACO has perfect optimization effect, and the method of virtual processing with integration of collision-free optimal path is practical.展开更多

The microstructure of the surface layer of 9CrSi steel was changed from pearlite to martensite, retained austenite and carbide by laser hardening. The depth of the hardened layer increased with increasing laser energy density and the surface hardeness increased by 3-5 times as high as the untreated steel. The laser hardened surface had good wear resistance due to martensite and carbide in the surface layer. The wear mode at low speed was abrasive, while the wear mode at high speed was adhesive.展开更多

Experimental analysis aims at clarifying effect of different laser processing parameters on properties and performance of laser surface treated specimens. Numerical analysis is concerned with analytical approaches that provide efficient tools for estimation of surface temperature, surface hardness and hardened depth as a function of laser surface hardening parameters. Results indicated that optimization of laser processing parameters including laser power, laser spot size and processing speed combination is of considerable importance for achieving maximum surface hardness and deepest hardened zone. In this concern, higher laser power, larger spot size and lower processing speed are more efficient. Hardened zone with 1.25 mm depth and 996 HV surface hardness was obtained using 1800 W laser power, 4 mm laser spot size and 0.5 m/min laser processing speed. The obtained maximum hardness of laser surface treated specimen is 23% higher than that of conventionally heat treated specimen. This in turn has resulted in 30% increase in wear resistance of laser surface treated specimen. Numerical analysis has been carried out for calculation of temperature gradient and cooling rate based on Ashby and Easterling equations. Then, surface hardness and hardened depth have been numerically estimated based on available Design-Expert software. Numerical results indicated that cooling rate of laser surface treated specimen is high enough to be beyond the nose of the CCT diagram of the used steel that in turn resulted in a hard/martensitic structure. Numerically estimated values of surface temperature, surface hardness and hardened depth as a function of laser processing parameters are in a good agreement with experimental results. Laser processing charts indicating expected values of surface temperature, surface hardness and hardened depth as a function of different wider range of laser processing parameters are proposed.展开更多

Because of its ability to model highly nonlinear problems, the ANN based model presents the best modelling results and can predict the hardness profile with good accuracy.
文摘This paper presents the results of a study concerned with the surface hardening of Fe-based alloys and WC-8Co cemented carbide by inte- grating laser cladding and the electrospark deposition processes. Specimens of low carbon steel were processed firstly by laser cladding with Fe-based alloy powders and then by electrospark deposition with WC-SCo cemented carbide. It is shown that, for these two treatments, the electrospark coating possesses finer microstructure than the laser coating, and the thickness and surface hardness of the electrospark coating can be substantially increased.
文摘A three-dimensional transient heat transfer model for laser transformation hardening process has been developed in this paper. The finite size of the laser treated sample, the surface heat loss of the sample, the latent heat of phase transformation and the temperature dependence of thermal properties of materials were considered. The heat source was considered as a moving Gaussian heat flux with a constant velocity. Three-dimension unequally spatial grid explicit finite difference equations, alternating direction implicit finite difference equations and implicit finite difference equations were deduced respectively. Three programs to calculate the temperature field were developed using Fortran language. The transient temperature fields of C22, 42CrMo, C60 steel samples during laser transformation hardening process were calculated using these programs, and the widths and depths of laser transformation hardening zones were also predicted. C22, 42CrMo, C60 steel samples were treated by CO_2 laser, the widths and depths of laser transformation hardening zones of these samples were also measured experimentally. The calculated widths and depths of laser transformation hardening zones are in good agreement with the experimental results.

文摘A new method of collision-free path plan integrated in virtual processing is developed to improve the efficiency of laser surface hardening on dies. An example on autobody die is processed in the virtual platform, the simulation results display that ACO has perfect optimization effect, and the method of virtual processing with integration of collision-free optimal path is practical.
文摘Laser transformation hardening(LTH)of unalloyed titanium of 1.6 mm-thick sheet, nearer to ASTM Grade 3 of chemical composition was investigated using 2 kW CW Nd:YAG laser. The effects of laser power(750-1 250 W),scanning speed(1 000-3 000 mm/min)and focal point position(from-10 to-30 mm)on the heat input, and hardened-bead geometry(i.e.hardened bead width(HBW),hardened depth(HD)and angle of entry of hardened bead profile with the surface(AEHB))were investigated using response surface methodology(RSM).The experimental plan is based on Box-Behnken design matrix method.Linear and quadratic polynomial equations for predicting the heat input and the hardened bead geometry were developed. The results indicate that the proposed models predict the responses adequately within the limits of hardening parameters being used.It is suggested that regression equations can be used to find optimum hardening conditions for desired criteria.
文摘A thermal elastic-plastic Two-D finite element model to calculate the transient stress field during laser transformation hardening process was developed in this paper. The mechanical properties of material, Young’s module E, Poisson’s ratio v, yield limit s2 and thermal expansion coefficient a are all considered to change with temperature. The equivalent expansion method was used to deal with the problem with phase transformation. A program to calculate the transient stress field was developed using FORTRAN language. The transient and residual stress fields during CO2 laser transformation hardening process of MoCu nodular iron were calculated. The residual stress fields were measured using X-ray diffraction method. The calculated residual stress field of laser transformation hardened MoCu nodular iron is in good agreement with the experimental result.

文摘Through sampling and analyzing of plasma optic signals of 400-600 nm emitted from partial-penetration laser welding processes, how the penetration depth is related to the welding parameter and the plasma optic signal is studied, Under the experimental conditions, the plasma optic signal has good response to variety of the weld penetration, and the signal's RMS value increases with the penetration in a quadratic curve mode. The inherent relation between the plasma optic signal and the penetration depth is also analyzed. It is also found that, between the two common parameters of laser power and welding speed, laser power has more influence on penetration while welding speed has more influence on weld width. The research results provide theoretic and practical bases for penetration real-time monitoring or predicting in partial-penetration laser welding,

文摘The effect of optical cleaning method combined with laser speckle imaging(LSI)was discussed to improve the detection depth of LSI due to high scattering characteristics of skin, which limit its clinical application.A double-layer skin tissue model embedded with a single blood vessel was established, and the Monte Carlo method was used to simulate photon propagation under the action of light-permeating agent.808 nm semiconductor and 632.8 nm He–Ne lasers were selected to study the e®ect of optical clearing agents(OCAs)on photon deposition in tissues. Results show that the photon energy deposition density in the epidermis increases with the amount of tissue°uid replaced by OCA.Compared with glucose solution, polyethylene glycol 400(PEG 400)and glycerol can considerably increase the average penetration depth of photons in the skin tissue, thereby raising the sampling depth of the LSI.After the action of glycerol,PEG 400,and glucose, the average photon penetration depth is increased by 51.78%,51.06%,and 21.51%for 808nm,68.93%,67.94%,and 26.67%for 632.8 nm lasers, respectively. In vivo experiment by dorsal skin chamber proves that glycerol can cause a substantial decrease in blood°ow rate, whereas PEG 400 can signicantly improve the capability of light penetration without a®ecting blood velocity, which exhibits considerable potential in the monitoring of blood°ow in skin tissues.
文摘The effects of laser hardening parameters such as beam power, beam diameter and scanning rate on microstructure and hardness of 9CrSi steel were investigated. The wear mode at low speed was abrasive, while the wear mode at high speed was adhesive.
文摘This research work is focused on both experimental and numerical analysis of laser surface hardening of AISI M2 high speed tool steel. Laser processing charts indicating expected values of surface temperature, surface hardness and hardened depth as a function of different wider range of laser processing parameters are proposed.

文摘Optical coherence tomography(OCT)allows a direct and precise measurement of laser welding depth by coaxially measuring the keyhole depth and can be used for process monitoring and control. When OCT measurement was taken during single-beam laser welding, the keyhole instability of aluminum welding resulted in highly scattered OCT data and complicated the welding depth extraction methods. As a combination of an inner core beam and an outer ring beam,a novel adjustable ring mode(ARM)laser for producing a stable keyhole was applied to the OCT measurement.Different ARM laser power arrangements were conducted on aluminum and copper. The results indicated that the ring beam greatly improved the stability of the core beam-induced keyhole, and smooth welding depth can be extracted from the concentrated OCT data.
