Conformity Assessment of Lead Aprons Used in Conventional Radiology: A Multi-Centre Survey in Togo

Aim: Lead aprons are used to protect against scattered radiation from the patient during interventional procedures and certain special conventional radiological examinations. Given the importance of the role lead aprons are supposed to play in radiation protection, we propose to assess their conformity in medical imaging departments in public and religious hospitals in Togo. Materials and method: A multi-centre survey conducted from 26 November to 06 December 2021 in the radiology departments of public and religious health facilities in Togo. All aprons in use were included. The evaluation criteria were physical (visual), quantitative (radiographic) and qualitative (dosimetric). Results: We had registred 43 aprons among wich 27 (62.79%) leaded aprons were labelled non-compliant and 16 (37.21%) were labelled compliant. Of the aprons judged to be non-compliant, 70.37% were more than 10 years old and 96.30% showed defects on the radiographic images. The most common defects were vampire marks (18.64%), multiple folds (16.96%), cracks (16.96%), multiple cracks (15.25%), tears (8.47%), absence of lead (5.08%), holes (3.39%) and lead corrosion (1.69%). Defective aprons (62.96%) had at least two defects. The defects were of thoraco-abdomino-pelvic (74.07%), thoracic (14.82%) and abdomino-pelvic (11.11%) topography. For indirect exposure at 50 and 70 kilovolts, all the aprons had an attenuation factor greater than 90%. After dosimetric measurement, 13.95% of aprons had attenuation factors below 90% for indirect exposure at 100 kilovolts. Conclusion: The compliance of the leaded decks is trifactorial (physical, radiographic and dosimetric). However, there is no significant difference in X-ray attenuation capacity between defective and normal decks. 展开更多

The researchers are combining binary alloys with a variety of additional materials to create the soldering alloys’ features. The eutectic Sn-9Zn alloy is among them. This paper investigated the mechanical and electrical properties of Sn-9Zn-x (Ag, Cu, Sb);{x = 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6} lead-free solder alloys. The mechanical properties such as elastic modulus, ultimate tensile strength (UTS), yield strength (YS), and ductility were examined at the strain rates in a range from 4.17 10−3 s−1 to 208.5 10−3 s−1 at room temperature. It is found that increasing the content of the alloying elements and strain rate increases the elastic modulus, ultimate tensile strength, and yield strength while the ductility decreases. The electrical conductivity of the alloys is found to be a little smaller than that of the Sn-9Zn eutectic alloy. 展开更多

目的探索帕金森病患者术中微电极记录(MER)联合术后Lead-DBS多模态影像融合技术,结合患者症状针对性选择开机触点方法的可行性。方法依照脑深部电刺激术(DBS)术后程控方式的差异,分析80例接受DBS治疗的帕金森病(PD)患者病例资料,随机分... 目的探索帕金森病患者术中微电极记录(MER)联合术后Lead-DBS多模态影像融合技术,结合患者症状针对性选择开机触点方法的可行性。方法依照脑深部电刺激术(DBS)术后程控方式的差异,分析80例接受DBS治疗的帕金森病(PD)患者病例资料,随机分为2组。实验组患者术中MER联合术后Lead-DBS多模态影像融合技术,结合患者症状针对性选择开机触点进行程控;对照组患者根据DBS专家程控共识逐个触点程控。结果首次开机时间:对照组(136.30±11.81)min,实验组(86.05±7.05)min,2组比较差异有统计学意义(P<0.05),实验组开机时间明显缩短;首次程控不良反应次数:实验组(0.90±0.50)次,对照组(3.03±1.00)次,2组比较差异有统计学意义(P<0.05),实验组不良反应次数显著减少;药物“关”期情况下,术后开机与关机帕金森病评定量表第三部分(UPDRS-Ⅲ)评分改善率:实验组术后开机UPDRS-Ⅲ平均改善率为47.60%,对照组平均改善率为46.60%,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),但实验组临床运动功能的改善程度优于对照组;帕金森病生活质量评分(PDQ-39)改善率:实验组术后开机平均改善率为47.60%,对照组平均改善率为46.60%,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),实验组生活质量改善程度高于对照组;6个月内门诊程控次数:实验组(2.20±0.85)次,对照组(4.08±1.89)次,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),实验组半年内门诊程控次数较对照组减少。结论患者术中MER联合术后Lead-DBS多模态影像融合技术,结合患者症状针对性选择开机触点的方法,具有安全,高效,开机不良反应少的优点,更倾向个体化治疗,可作为DBS术后程控新的尝试方案。 展开更多

This study focuses on a single-stage axial flow fan, investigating the effect of three kinds of wave leading edge stator blades on its noise reduction. The DDES method and the duct acoustic analogy theory based on the penetrable data surface were used for noise prediction. The results showed that the three kinds of wave leading edge blades were effective in reducing the rotor-stator interaction tonal noise and also have a certain inhibitory effect on broadband noise. The A10W15 stator blade can effectively reduce broadband noise in the frequency range of 2200 - 4200 Hz. When the amplitude is increased to 20, the noise reduction effect is further enhanced. However, when the amplitude is increased to 30, the broadband noise reduction effect is no longer significant. Further research shows that the wave leading edge stator blades can significantly change the pressure fluctuation distribution on the leading edge and suction surface, which control the modal energy distribution. Finally, this paper analyzed multiple factors affecting the broadband noise reduction, such as the noise source cut-off and cut-on effect and correlation. The purpose of this paper is to explore the laws of the influence of wave leading edge blades on the duct noise of real fan, and to reveal its noise control mechanism. . 展开更多

目的探讨CR导联心电图的原理及临床应用。方法CR导联系统是有共同负极的双极胸导联系统,其共同负极是右上肢(R),正极是胸部某点(C),多选V导联各点。获取CR导联心电图的方法有两种:一是利用常规心电图机实采,四个肢体电极全接右上肢,胸... 目的探讨CR导联心电图的原理及临床应用。方法CR导联系统是有共同负极的双极胸导联系统,其共同负极是右上肢(R),正极是胸部某点(C),多选V导联各点。获取CR导联心电图的方法有两种:一是利用常规心电图机实采,四个肢体电极全接右上肢,胸导联电极正常连结;二是基于常规心电图数据通过导联转换获取,首先调取aVR、V_(1)-V_(6)、V_(3R)-V_(5R)、V_(7)-V_(9)等导联的原始数据,再利用固定的转换系数CR-V_(i)=V_(i)-2/3 aVR计算目标导联(使用Python语言在Pycharm编译环境下实现算法),最终转换完成后画图。结果实采法与转换法获取了相同的CR导联心电图,但与相应的Wilson导联心电图相比,左胸导联的CR导联心电图形态类似而波幅略大,右胸导联CR导联心电图与Wilson导联心电图波幅相近但形态截然不同:前者P波清晰,QRS波群主波向上、无宽深的Q波,T波直立;后者P波较低,QRS波群主波向下,可出现非梗死性宽深Q波及非缺血性T波倒置,即所谓的右心室盲区。结论CR导联心电图开放了右心室盲区,实现了对左、右心室的平等探测,为临床提供了更有价值的心电学形态信息,弥补了Wilson胸导联系统的不足,值得推广普及。 展开更多

The presence of toxic elements in milk may threaten the public health. This study reports the levels of Cadmium (Cd), Cobalt (Co) and Lead (Pb) in raw cow’s milk collected from different areas of Zanzibar Island during March - May 2016. The samples of raw milk were analyzed by Thermo Scientific-Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer for quantitative determination of the metals in the matrix. The concentration of Co in this study ranged from ND at Mwanakwerekwe (MK1 and MK2) to a maximum of 0.004 mg/L at Mshelishelini (MS5) and Fuoni (F5) sites with mean concentration of 0.020 ± 0.003 mg/L for all sites. Concentration of Pb ranged between 0.05 - 0.51 mg/L at Fuoni (F7) and Mwanakwerekwe (MK1) respectively, with mean concentration of 0.263 ± 0.031 mg/L for all sites. However, Cd was only detected in one sample collected at Fuoni (F3) with a concentration of 0.001 mg/L. The results revealed that cow’s milk is contaminated with toxic metals, particularly Pb which exceeded the WHO maximum permissible level of 0.02 mg/L. The study furthermore sheds light on possible consequences to public health. It is recommended that, stakeholders especially in Zanzibar such as Zanzibar Food and Drug Authorities (ZFDA) and Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS) as well as researchers, use the findings of this study for policy making, future study plans, formulation of technical strategies to control milk contamination, risk assessment and develop new alternative methods to measure milk contamination even at a low detection limit for the sake of the consumers’ welfare before posing any serious effects to their health. 展开更多

Inadvertent Lead Malposition in Left Ventricle is a rare and underdiagnosed incident, which may occur during implantation of cardiac electronic devices and may remain asymptomatic. We reported the case of a 71-year-old man who was implanted with a ventricular single-chamber pacemaker for a slow atrial fibrillation with syncope and whose routine transthoracic echocardiography 23 months after implantation displayed a malposition of the pacemaker lead into the Left Ventricle through a patent foramen oval. The patient was asymptomatic. The electrocardiogram showed right bundle branch block QRS-paced morphology with a positive QRS pattern in V1, a median paced QRS axis on the frontal plane at -120°, a Precordial transition on V5. At the lateral Chest X-ray the lead curved backwards to the spine. Given the age of this old patient who already received oral anticoagulant for Atrial Fibrillation and the Lead malposition discovered 23 months after pacemaker’s implantation, we decided to maintain the lead in LV and continue anticoagulation. 展开更多

All the test samples were annealed at 150°C for 1 hour. The tests are carried out at room temperature at the strain rate of 4.17 × 10<sup>-3</sup> s<sup>-1</sup>, 20.85 × 10<sup>-3</sup> s<sup>-1</sup>, and 208.5 × 10<sup>-3</sup> s<sup>-1</sup>. It is seen that the tensile strength increases and the ductility decrease with increasing the strain rate over the investigated range. From the strain rate change test results, the strain sensitivity values are found in the range of 0.0831 to 0.1455 due to the addition of different alloying elements. 展开更多

Method/Process: Based on the themes and contents of a few media accounts of leading cadres at different ranks, we summarizes leading cadres new media usage in a systematic perspective and content analysize method. Result/Conclusion: The study defines the concept of Leading Cadres’ new media from the perspective of media practice, determine its position as a media communication platform in the government affairs new media communication system and its relationship with the other elements, and then systematically review the evolution of its media practice from personal website, blog, microblog and microblog to WeChat, live show. On this basis, with the Harold Lasswell communication model, this article summarizes leading cadres new media communication characteristics from five aspects: content producer, content, channel, audience, and effect. It takes place when the pollutants are being entered into a water reservoir without any treatment. Heavy metals are one of the major harmful pollutants that exist in the water;therefore, it is necessary to remove these toxic metals to keep our environment safe. Biosorption is an ecofriendly and economical technique for the elimination of these toxic metals from polluted water. In this research work roots, stems, and leaves of Momordica charantia (Bitter gourd) were used as biosorbent for the elimination of Pb (II) ions from aqueous solution. Many different parameters such as metal ion solution pH, biomass dosage, initial metal ions concentration and contact time were optimized in the batch experiments. The calculated results revealed that biosorption of Pb (II) was maximum at solution pH 5, biosorbent dosage of 0.1 g and 100 ppm of initial metal ions concentration within 240 minutes of contact time. M. charantia’s leaves showed the highest level of lead biosorption capacity (47.62%), followed by stems (42.36%) and roots (38.47%). The Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second order kinetics model fitted well for the analytical data. The results indicated that Momordica charantia is an effective biosorbent for Pb (II) ions elimination from wastewater. 展开更多

Due to historical and ongoing industrial practices, lead contamination in urban soils presents substantial health risks, primarily due to its capacity to readily migrate from the soil to humans. This research focused on the influence of soil pH, organic matter, and clay content on extractable lead amounts. Sixty-four soil samples from Muncie, Indiana, were analyzed, revealing that the examined factors accounted for 21.71% of the Pb mg/Kg-dry variable variance (p −0.4, p < 0.001), with XRD and FTIR analyses confirming the binding affinity of clay minerals with lead. In contrast, no significant relationships were found between Pb concentrations and soil pH (r = 0.07;p = 0.59) or organic matter content (r = 0.12;p = 0.34). Elucidating the interactions between lead, clay minerals, and other soil constituents is crucial for addressing lead-contaminated soils and reducing environmental and health impacts. 展开更多
