Robot calligraphy visually reflects the motion capability of robotic manipulators. While traditional researches mainly focus on image generation and the writing of simple calligraphic strokes or characters, this article presents a generative adversarial network(GAN)-based motion learning method for robotic calligraphy synthesis(Gan2CS)that can enhance the efficiency in writing complex calligraphy words and reproducing classic calligraphy works. The key technologies in the proposed approach include:(1)adopting the GAN to learn the motion parameters from the robot writing operation;(2)converting the learnt motion data into the style font and realising the transition from static calligraphy images to dynamic writing demonstration;(3)reproducing high-precision calligraphy works by synthesising the writing motion data hierarchically. In this study, the motion trajectories of sample calligraphy images are firstly extracted and converted into the robot module. The robot performs the writing with motion planning, and the writing motion parameters of calligraphy strokes are learnt with GANs.Then the motion data of basic strokes is synthesised based on the hierarchical process of‘stroke-radicalpart-character’.And the robot re-writes the synthesised characters whose similarity with the original calligraphy characters is evaluated.Regular calligraphy characters have been tested in the experiments for method validation and the results validated that the robot can actualise the robotic calligraphy synthesis of writing motion data with GAN. 展开更多

Malaria is a lethal disease responsible for thousands of deaths worldwide every year.Manual methods of malaria diagnosis are timeconsuming that require a great deal of human expertise and efforts.Computerbased automated diagnosis of diseases is progressively becoming popular.Although deep learning models show high performance in the medical field,it demands a large volume of data for training which is hard to acquire for medical problems.Similarly, labeling of medical images can be done with the help of medical experts only.Several recent studies have utilized deep learning models to develop efficient malaria diagnostic system, which showed promising results. However, the most common problem with these models is that they need a large amount of data for training. This paper presents a computer-aided malaria diagnosis system that combines a semi-supervised generative adversarial network and transfer learning. The proposed model is trained in a semi-supervised manner and requires less training data than conventional deep learning models.Performance of the proposed model is evaluated on a publicly available dataset of blood smear images(with malariainfected and normal class)and achieved a classification accuracy of 96.6%. 展开更多

Mechanically cleaved two-dimensional materials are random in size and thickness.Recognizing atomically thin flakes by human experts is inefficient and unsuitable for scalable production.Deep learning algorithms have been adopted as an alternative, nevertheless a major challenge is a lack of sufficient actual training images. Here we report the generation of synthetic two-dimensional materials images using StyleGAN3 to complement the dataset.DeepLabv3Plus network is trained with the synthetic images which reduces overfitting and improves recognition accuracy to over 90%.A semi-supervisory technique for labeling images is introduced to reduce manual efforts. The sharper edges recognized by this method facilitate material stacking with precise edge alignment, which benefits exploring novel properties of layered-material devices that crucially depend on the interlayer twist-angle.This feasible and efficient method allows for the rapid and high-quality manufacturing of atomically thin materials and devices. 展开更多

In the assessment of car insurance claims, the claim rate for car insurance presents a highly skewed probability distribution, which is typically modeled using Tweedie distribution. The traditional approach to obtaining the Tweedie regression model involves training on a centralized dataset, when the data is provided by multiple parties, training a privacy-preserving Tweedie regression model without exchanging raw data becomes a challenge. To address this issue, this study introduces a novel vertical federated learning-based Tweedie regression algorithm for multi-party auto insurance rate setting in data silos. The algorithm can keep sensitive data locally and uses privacy-preserving techniques to achieve intersection operations between the two parties holding the data. After determining which entities are shared, the participants train the model locally using the shared entity data to obtain the local generalized linear model intermediate parameters. The homomorphic encryption algorithms are introduced to interact with and update the model intermediate parameters to collaboratively complete the joint training of the car insurance rate-setting model.Performance tests on two publicly available datasets show that the proposed federated Tweedie regression algorithm can effectively generate Tweedie regression models that leverage the value of data fromboth partieswithout exchanging data. The assessment results of the scheme approach those of the Tweedie regressionmodel learned fromcentralized data, and outperformthe Tweedie regressionmodel learned independently by a single party. 展开更多

Zero-shot learning enables the recognition of new class samples by migrating models learned from semanticfeatures and existing sample features to things that have never been seen before. The problems of consistencyof different types of features and domain shift problems are two of the critical issues in zero-shot learning. Toaddress both of these issues, this paper proposes a new modeling structure. The traditional approach mappedsemantic features and visual features into the same feature space;based on this, a dual discriminator approachis used in the proposed model. This dual discriminator approach can further enhance the consistency betweensemantic and visual features. At the same time, this approach can also align unseen class semantic features andtraining set samples, providing a portion of information about the unseen classes. In addition, a new feature fusionmethod is proposed in the model. This method is equivalent to adding perturbation to the seen class features, which can reduce the degree to which the classification results in the model are biased towards the seen classes. At the same time, this feature fusion method can provide part of the information of the unseen classes, improvingits classification accuracy in generalized zero-shot learning and reducing domain bias. The proposed method isvalidated and compared with othermethods on four datasets, and fromthe experimental results, it can be seen thatthe method proposed in this paper achieves promising results. 展开更多

Recently, there have been significant advancements in the study of semantic communication in single-modal scenarios. However, the ability to process information in multi-modal environments remains limited.Inspired by the research and applications of natural language processing across different modalities, our goal is to accurately extract frame-level semantic information from videos and ultimately transmit high-quality videos.Specifically,we propose a deep learning-basedMulti-ModalMutual Enhancement Video Semantic Communication system, called M3E-VSC.Built upon a VectorQuantized Generative AdversarialNetwork(VQGAN),our systemaims to leverage mutual enhancement among different modalities by using text as the main carrier of transmission. With it,the semantic information can be extracted fromkey-frame images and audio of the video and performdifferential value to ensure that the extracted text conveys accurate semantic information with fewer bits, thus improving the capacity of the system.Furthermore,a multi-frame semantic detection module is designed to facilitate semantic transitions during video generation.Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed model maintains high robustness in complex noise environments, particularly in low signal-to-noise ratio conditions, significantly improving the accuracy and speed of semantic transmission in video communication by approximately 50 percent. 展开更多

Although modulation classification based on deep neural network can achieve high Modulation Classification(MC)accuracies, catastrophic forgetting will occur when the neural network model continues to learn new tasks. In this paper,we simulate the dynamic wireless communication environment and focus on breaking the learning paradigm of isolated automatic MC.We innovate a research algorithm for continuous automatic MC.Firstly,a memory for storing representative old task modulation signals is built, which is employed to limit the gradient update direction of new tasks in the continuous learning stage to ensure that the loss of old tasks is also in a downward trend.Secondly,in order to better simulate the dynamic wireless communication environment,we employ the mini-batch gradient algorithm which is more suitable for continuous learning. Finally, the signal in the memory can be replayed to further strengthen the characteristics of the old task signal in the model.Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the method. 展开更多

Elastography is a non-invasive medical imaging technique to map the spatial variation of elastic properties of soft tissues. The quality of reconstruction results in elastography is highly sensitive to the noise induced by imaging measurements and processing. To address this issue,we propose a deep learning(DL)model based on conditional Generative Adversarial Networks(cGANs)to improve the quality of nonhomogeneous shear modulus reconstruction. To train this model,we generated a synthetic displacement field with finite element simulation under known nonhomogeneous shear modulus distribution. Both the simulated and experimental displacement fields are used to validate the proposed method. The reconstructed results demonstrate that the DL model with synthetic training data is able to improve the quality of the reconstruction compared with the well-established optimization method. Moreover,we emphasize that our DL model is only trained on synthetic data. This might provide a way to alleviate the challenge of obtaining clinical or experimental data in elastography.Overall, this work addresses several fatal issues in applying the DL technique into elastography, and the proposed method has shown great potential in improving the accuracy of the disease diagnosis in clinical medicine. 展开更多

Pneumonia ranks as a leading cause of mortality, particularly in children aged five and under. Detecting this disease typically requires radiologists to examine chest X-rays and report their findings to physicians, a task susceptible to human error. The application of Deep Transfer Learning (DTL) for the identification of pneumonia through chest X-rays is hindered by a shortage of available images, which has led to less than optimal DTL performance and issues with overfitting. Overfitting is characterized by a model’s learning that is too closely fitted to the training data, reducing its effectiveness on unseen data. The problem of overfitting is especially prevalent in medical image processing due to the high costs and extensive time required for image annotation, as well as the challenge of collecting substantial datasets that also respect patient privacy concerning infectious diseases such as pneumonia. To mitigate these challenges, this paper introduces the use of conditional generative adversarial networks (CGAN) to enrich the pneumonia dataset with 2690 synthesized X-ray images of the minority class, aiming to even out the dataset distribution for improved diagnostic performance. Subsequently, we applied four modified lightweight deep transfer learning models such as Xception, MobileNetV2, MobileNet, and EfficientNetB0. These models have been fine-tuned and evaluated, demonstrating remarkable detection accuracies of 99.26%, 98.23%, 97.06%, and 94.55%, respectively, across fifty epochs. The experimental results validate that the models we have proposed achieve high detection accuracy rates, with the best model reaching up to 99.26% effectiveness, outperforming other models in the diagnosis of pneumonia from X-ray images. 展开更多

Deep Learning(DL)is such a powerful tool that we have seen tremendous success in areas such as Computer Vision,Speech Recognition, and Natural Language Processing.Since Automated Modulation Classification(AMC)is an important part in Cognitive Radio Networks,we try to explore its potential in solving signal modulation recognition problem. It cannot be overlooked that DL model is a complex model, thus making them prone to over-fitting.DL model requires many training data to combat with over-fitting,but adding high quality labels to training data manually is not always cheap and accessible, especially in real-time system, which may counter unprecedented data in dataset.Semi-supervised Learning is a way to exploit unlabeled data effectively to reduce over-fitting in DL.In this paper,we extend Generative Adversarial Networks(GANs)to the semi-supervised learning will show it is a method can be used to create a more dataefficient classifier. 展开更多

Generative adversarial network(GAN)has achieved great success in many fields such as computer vision, speech processing, and natural language processing, because of its powerful capabilities for generating realistic samples. In this paper,we introduce GAN into the field of electromagnetic signal classification(ESC).ESC plays an important role in both military and civilian domains. However,in many specific scenarios,we can’t obtain enough labeled data, which cause failure of deep learning methods because they are easy to fall into over-fitting.Fortunately,semi-supervised learning(SSL)can leverage the large amount of unlabeled data to enhance the classification performance of classifiers, especially in scenarios with limited amount of labeled data.We present an SSL framework by incorporating GAN,which can directly process the raw in-phase and quadrature(IQ)signal data.According to the characteristics of the electromagnetic signal,we propose a weighted loss function, leading to an effective classifier to realize the end-to-end classification of the electromagnetic signal. We validate the proposed method on both public RML2016.04c dataset and real-world Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System(ACARS)signal dataset.Extensive experimental results show that the proposed framework obtains a significant increase in classification accuracy compared with the state-of-the-art studies. 展开更多

In recent years, landslide susceptibility mapping has substantially improved with advances in machine learning. However, there are still challenges remain in landslide mapping due to the availability of limited inventory data.In this paper,a novel method that improves the performance of machine learning techniques is presented. The proposed method creates synthetic inventory data using Generative Adversarial Networks(GANs)for improving the prediction of landslides. In this research, landslide inventory data of 156 landslide locations were identified in Cameron Highlands,Malaysia, taken from previous projects the authors worked on.Elevation, slope, aspect, plan curvature, profile curvature, total curvature, lithology, land use and land cover(LULC),distance to the road, distance to the river, stream power index(SPI),sediment transport index(STI),terrain roughness index(TRI),topographic wetness index(TWI)and vegetation density are geo-environmental factors considered in this study based on suggestions from previous works on Cameron Highlands. To show the capability of GANs in improving landslide prediction models, this study tests the proposed GAN model with benchmark models namely Artificial Neural Network(ANN),Support Vector Machine(SVM),Decision Trees(DT),Random Forest(RF)and Bagging ensemble models with ANN and SVM models. These models were validated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC).The DT,RF,SVM,ANN and Bagging ensemble could achieve the AUROC values of(0.90,0.94,0.86,0.69 and 0.82)for the training;and the AUROC of(0.76,0.81,0.85,0.72 and 0.75)for the test, subsequently. When using additional samples, the same models achieved the AUROC values of(0.92,0.94,0.88,0.75 and 0.84)for the training and(0.78,0.82,0.82,0.78 and 0.80)for the test, respectively.Using the additional samples improved the test accuracy of all the models except SVM.As a result,in data-scarce environments, this research showed that utilizing GANs to generate supplementary samples is promising because it can improve the predictive capability of common landslide prediction models. 展开更多

In the machine learning(ML)paradigm, data augmentation serves as a regularization approach for creating ML models. The increase in the diversification of training samples increases the generalization capabilities, which enhances the prediction performance of classifiers when tested on unseen examples.Deep learning(DL)models have a lot of parameters, and they frequently overfit.Effectively,to avoid overfitting, data plays a major role to augment the latest improvements in DL.Nevertheless, reliable data collection is a major limiting factor.Frequently, this problem is undertaken by combining augmentation of data, transfer learning, dropout, and methods of normalization in batches. In this paper,we introduce the application of data augmentation in the field of image classification using Random Multi-model Deep Learning(RMDL)which uses the association approaches of multi-DL to yield random models for classification. We present a methodology for using Generative Adversarial Networks(GANs)to generate images for data augmenting.Through experiments,we discover that samples generated by GANs when fed into RMDL improve both accuracy and model efficiency.Experimenting across both MNIST and CIAFAR-10 datasets show that, error rate with proposed approach has been decreased with different random models. 展开更多
