In malaria-endemic regions in Kenya, percentage of pregnant women hospitalized with malaria reach up to 60%. WHO recommends at least three doses of sulphadoxine pyrimethamine for Intermittent Preventive Treatment of Malaria in Pregnancy (IPTp) antenatally. This study sought to ascertain the prevalence and individual-level factors influencing the uptake of IPTp-SP3+. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study at Busia County Referral Hospital. 384 mothers were consecutively sampled at the maternity unit during delivery. Semi-structured questionnaires were used to collect data. Odds ratio (OR) and adjusted OR were used to determine statistical significance of individual factors influencing uptake of three or more IPTp-SP. Results: 43.0% of participants took IPTp-SP3+. Individual factors that affected the uptake of IPTp-SP3+ included starting ANC visits in the first trimester (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 2.1, 95% CI: 1.23 – 3.67, p = 0.046), having more than four ANC visits (aOR = 3.1, 95% CI: 1.49 – 6.50, p = 0.002), having a higher monthly income (aOR = 2.6, 95% CI: 1.24 – 5.36, p = 0.012), being aware of the advantages of IPTp-SP medications (aOR = 3.7, 95% CI: 1.40 – 9.74, p = 0.008), and having a positive attitude toward ANC services (aOR = 3.2, 95% CI: 1.61 – 6.31, p = 0.001). Conclusion: Less than half of the pregnant mothers are complyingIPTp-SP3+. There should be aggressive efforts by the County and National Ministries of Health promoting initiation of ANC attendance early and attendance of all the recommended eight visits together with ensuring availability of the drugs.展开更多

According to the data, the obvious characteristic of the groundwater level of the city is thatit is changing seasonally. Lhasa is divided into three districts according to hydrogeologicalconditions: the alluvial plain of the Lhasa-river, the alluvial plain of the Doilung-river, and thealluvial fan of inter mountain, which presents a downward trend, a slight upward trend and basicallystabilizing trend over the years individually. The analysis indicates that meteorological andhydrological factors lead to the obvious dynamic change of the groundwater level. To investigate blood lead levels (BLL) and possible risk factors for lead exposure among children in China A total of 388 articles met our inclusion criteria. The overall geometric mean (GM) BLL was 71 μg/L, and the prevalence of elevated BLL (EBLL, defined as BLL ≥100 μg/L) was 18.48% among children. The prevalence of EBLL remained significantly higher among boys. In children less than 6 years of age, there were significantly increasing trends in both BLL and prevalence of EBLL in an age-dependent manner. The ban on leaded gasoline significantly reduced the BLL as well as EBLL prevalence; however, children whose parents had lower educational levels or were exposed to lead in the workplace had a higher EBLL prevalence. Despite its decline over time, the average BLL among children in China remains higher than the average level most recently reported in the United States. Childhood lead poisoning remains a public health problem in China.展开更多

A "tilted plateau" feature is observed near the Landau level filling factor v = 1 in 1/T1 versus v. Both the width and magnitude of the plateau increase with decreasing electron density. At low temperatures, lIT1 exhibits an Arrhenius temperature dependence within the tilted plateau regime. The extracted energy gaps are up to two orders of magnitude smaller than the corresponding charge transport gaps. These results point to a nontrivial mechanism for the disorder-enhanced nuclear spin relaxation, in which microscopic inhomogeneities play a key role for the low energy spin excitations related to skyrmions.展开更多

It is proposed that the relationship of the twist angle, twist level, and the yarn diameter should be synthetically considered when evaluating the twist insertion level of the compact yarn. The twist angle of the compact yarn is smaller than that of the ring yarn with the same twist insertion level. This results from the ordered fiber arrangement and compact structure of the compact yarn. Experiment was conducted to verify the conclusions. It is also discovered that the selection of the twist factor of the compact yarn, which can be usually lower than that of the ring yarn by 10%-15%, can be determined based on the yarn tensile strength.展开更多

However, the dimensionality check of a PA self-efficacy scale has rarely been conducted in China. The current study aims to examine(1) the unidimensionality of a shortened Chinese version of PA self-efficacy scale(S-PASESC);(2) the measurement invariance of S-PASESC across gender and levels of education;(3) the latent factor mean difference between gender and levels of education;(4) the direct effects of self-efficacy on PA by different gender and education levels; and(5) the comparisons of the direct effects of self-efficacy on PA across gender and education levels. Methods: The participants were 5 th through 11 th grade public school students recruited from 7 cities located in different geographic regions of China. The final data include a total of 3003 participants(49.7% boys) who have completed the scales. Results: Confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) test supported the unidimensionality of S-PASESC. The S-PASESC is invariant across gender and 3 levels of education at both configural, full metric, and full scalar levels. Findings from latent mean comparisons showed that boys reported higher PA self-efficacy than girls. Students' perceived PA self-efficacy tend to decrease from elementary to high school. Finally, self-efficacy positively related to PA by groups of different gender and education levels and the relationship between self-efficacy and PA is stronger among middle school boys than girls. Conclusion: Findings suggest S-PASESC is a valid scale for measuring Chinese students' PA self-efficacy.展开更多

VEGF levels were examined for each serum sample using the Quantikine Human VEGF-enzyme-linked immuno-absorbent assay(ELISA),whereas tryptase serum concentrations were assessed for each serum sample by means of fluoro-enzyme immunoassay(FEIA) using the Uni-CAP100 tool.Differences between serum VEGF and tryptase values before and after TACE were evaluated using Student t test. Person's correlation was used to assess the degree of association between the two variables.RESULTS: VEGF levels and serum tryptase in HCCpatients before TACE had a mean value and standard deviation(SD) of 114.31 ± 79.58 pg/mL and 8.13± 3.61 μg/L, respectively. The mean levels and SD of VEGF levels and serum tryptase in HCC patients after TACE were 238.14 ± 109.41 pg/mL and 4.02 ±3.03 μg/L. The changes between the mean values of concentration of VEGF and tryptase before treatment and after treatment was statistically significant(P <0.000231 and P < 0.00124, by Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney respectively). A significant correlation between VEGF levels before and after TACE and between tryptase levels before and after TACE was demonstrated(r =0.68, P = 0.003; r = 0.84, P = 0.000 respectively).CONCLUSION: Our pilot results suggest that the higher serum VEGF levels and the lower tryptase levels following TACE may be potential biomarkers changing in response to therapy.展开更多

The calculations for the elastic scattering are performed by the phenomenological optical model. The different optical potentials to include breakup effects into the calculations, which are neutron+12C, neutron+10Be and10Be+12C, are described with the aid of the global potentials for neutron interactions and fitted to experimental data for the core and target interaction. Also, the first analysis of the optical model for10 Be on target12 C at 39.1 Me V is done for building the interaction potential of the core and the target for11 Be. For investigating the effects of the spectroscopic factors, obtained factors from the direct capture process using the nuclear level density are compared with the previous cross section and spectroscopic factor results. Obtained results for the elastic cross section reproduce the experimental data very well and show the requirement of including spectroscopic properties such as, spectroscopic factors and density of the excited states, to explain this elastic cross section data.展开更多

The disruption in the tight balance of neuroinflammatory and neuroprotective processes in an immune -privileged site like retina is proposed to contribute to the pathogenesis of AMD. One of the main neuroprotective mediators in the central nervous system Is BDNF with its serum level notably affected in several neurodegenerative disorders. METHODS: Thirty-six patients'with AMD and 36 age-matched controls were enrolled in this study. The serum level of BDNF was measured using the enzyme -linked immunosorbent assay method. Results were analyzed to compare case and control values. Comparisons were also made between the BDNF level of wet- vsdry-AMD, and male vs female patients and controls. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Student's t-test were employed to analyze the data. RESULTS: The mean BDNF levels in AMD group were significantly higher than the control group. Furthermore, our analysis revealed greater BDNF values in all AMD subgroups compared to controls (P=0.004, 0.005, 0.001 and 0.02 for male wet-AMD, male dry-AMD, female wetAMD and female dry-AMD vscontrols, respectively). The BDNF level however did not vary between wet- and dryAMD patients (P=0.74). While within-group comparisons in males and females of AMD and control groups did not show any difference in BDNF (P=0.16, 0.64 and 0.85 for wet -AMD, dry -AMD and control groups, respectively), between -group data showed a higher mean BDNF in both male and female AMD subjects than their peer controls. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that the serum BDNF level is different in patients with AMD as compared to subjects without AMD. Future attempts should be done to unravel beneficial or deleterious effect of this neurotrophin in the pathogenesis of AMD.展开更多

文摘In this paper, the difference of the twist insertion levels of the compact and ring spun yarns of the same count is analyzed based on the relationship of the yarn twist factor to the twist angle and the bulk density. It is also discovered that the selection of the twist factor of the compact yarn, which can be usually lower than that of the ring yarn by 10%-15%, can be determined based on the yarn tensile strength.

文摘Background: Self-efficacy has been identified as an important determinant of youth's behavior change including physical activity(PA) participation. Conclusion: Findings suggest S-PASESC is a valid scale for measuring Chinese students' PA self-efficacy.
文摘Objective:To investigate the effects of intravenous thrombolysis therapy with alteplase on neurological function, coagulation function and serum inflammatory factors in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods:A total of 96 patients with acute cerebral infarction admitted to our hospital from September 2017 to October 2019 were randomly divided into two groups, with 48 patients in each group. The control group(n=48)received routine treatment, and the observation group received intravenous thrombolysis therapy with alteplase on the basis of routine treatment. The neurological deficit score, prothrombin time(PT),activated partial thromboplastin time(APTT),tumor necrosis factor-a level(TNF-α),and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)were compared between the two groups after 15 days of treatment. Results:After treatment,NIHSS scores in both groups were lower than those before treatment;PT levels were increased, while APTT,TNF-αand hs-CRP levels were all decreased in both groups, and the changes in the observation group were greater than those in the control group, with statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusions:Intravenous thrombolysis therapy with alteplase can improve the neurological function, coagulation function and serum levels of inflammatory factors in patients with acute cerebral infarction, which is worthy of clinical application.

文摘AIM: To evaluate vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and tryptase in hepatocellular cancer(HCC)before and after trans-arterial chemoembolization(TACE).METHODS: VEGF and tryptase serum concentrations were assessed from 71 unresectable HCC patients before and after hepatic TACE performed by binding DC-Beads?to doxorubicin. A significant correlation between VEGF levels before and after TACE and between tryptase levels before and after TACE was demonstrated(r =0.68, P = 0.003; r = 0.84, P = 0.000 respectively).CONCLUSION: Our pilot results suggest that the higher serum VEGF levels and the lower tryptase levels following TACE may be potential biomarkers changing in response to therapy.

文摘The experimental elastic cross section data of the projectile11 Be on target12 C at 49.3 Me V/nucleon energy is analysed. Obtained results for the elastic cross section reproduce the experimental data very well and show the requirement of including spectroscopic properties such as, spectroscopic factors and density of the excited states, to explain this elastic cross section data.
文摘AIM: To investigate the serum level of the brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in age -related macular degeneration (AMD) and healthy control subjects. Future attempts should be done to unravel beneficial or deleterious effect of this neurotrophin in the pathogenesis of AMD.
