To ensure a representative sample, the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics-Ⅱ(modified for Turkey) was used. Turkey was divided into 26 regions based on social, economic, and geographic criteria as identified by the Turkish Statistical Institute. A stratified sampling method was used with an even distribution of adults across cities and towns based on population data. Data were collected by the PRP Research and Consultancy Company using computer-assisted personal interviews.RESULTS Out of 3000 individuals represented in the study population, 1465(48.8%) were male and 1535(51.2%) female. The results showed that most participants were under 45 years(59.0%) and married(72.1%), some had a bachelor’s degree or higher(21.9%), and very few(1.5%) had any direct experience with organ transplantation-whether in the family, or a family member on a transplantation waiting list. Most of the study population(88.3%) had not considered donating an organ, however, most(87.9%) said that they would accept an organ from a donor if they needed one. Among the individuals surveyed, 67% were willing to donate an organ to a close relative, while 26.8% would donate an organ to an unrelated person. Only 47.2% said they had adequate information about brain death, and 85.2% refused to consent to donating organs of family members declared brain dead. Only 33.9% thought they had adequate information about organ donation. The main source of information was the television. The two main reasons for refusing organ donation were that it was too soon to think about organ donation and the importance of retaining the integrity of the dead person’s body.CONCLUSION This study showed that Turkey’s adult population has inadequate knowledge about organ donation. The study advocates for public education programs to increase awareness among the general population about legislation related to organ donation.展开更多

Different surveys have shown declines in interest and concern about climate change and sea level rise. Climate change and increasing temperatures have an anthropogenic cause, which relates to energy use, making it important to examine whether people believe that it is occurring. In late 2012 New Jersey experienced Super storm Sandy, one of the worst hurricanes in its history, followed by public discussion and media coverage of stronger more frequent storms due to climate change. Using structured interviews, we tested the null hypotheses that there were no differences in perceptions of 1260 interviewees as a function of year of the survey, age, gender, years of education, and self-evaluation of science knowledge (on a scale of 1 to 5). In 2012 460 of 639 (72%) rated “global warming occurring” as “certain” (#4) or “very certain” (#5) compared with 453 of 621 (73%) in 2014. For “due to human activities” the numbers of “certain” or “very certain” were 71% in 2012, and 67% in 2014 and for sea level rise the numbers were 64% and 70%. There were some inconsistent between-year differences with higher ratings in 2012 for 3 outcomes and higher ratings in 2014 for 5 outcomes. However, for 25 questions relative to climate change, sea level rise, and the personal and ecological effects of sea level rise, self-evaluation of science knowledge, independent of years of education, was the factor that entered 23 of the models, accounting for the most variability in ratings. People who believed they had a “high knowledge” (#4) or “very high knowledge” (#5) of science rated all issues as more important than did those people who rated their own scientific knowledge as average or below average.展开更多

Data were collected from a random sample of 300 households through face to face interviews using an interview schedule. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression model. Results showed that 75% and 73% of the respondents had high levels of knowledge in use of manure and fertilizers, respectively, while 43% of the respondents had moderate levels of knowledge in the use of manure + fertilizers. Age of the household head (HHH) training in the use of animal manure and group membership significantly influenced household levels of knowledge in use of animal manure. In regard to levels of knowledge on fertilizer use, group membership, age of the HHH and total farm size were important explanatory variables while gender of the HHH, household size, training on manure + fertilizers, group membership and total farm size were important in influencing the levels of knowledge in use of manure + fertilizers. The implication of these results is that training and belonging to a group enhances level of knowledge on soil fertility management and development, so workers should focus on these two aspects.展开更多

Due to the scarcity of subsurface well data, both spatially and quantity wise, variograms representing the data tend to have a lot of uncertainties. In order to reduce uncertainty in variograms, well data can be supplemented with the geological knowledge of the reservoir. This has been demonstrated by various authors in previous works. In their paper “Methodology to Incorporate Geological Knowledge in Variogram Modeling,” A. Bahar and M. Kelkar introduced a methodology to incorporate geological knowledge by studying the energy level of the depositional environment and grain texture. They used these two attributes to determine the relative distance of continuity of the lithofacies and incorporated it in the variogram modeling. In this paper, we introduce another attribute that determines the continuity of lithofacies;the accommodation or deposition space. For illustration purpose, two sets of facies models were constructed: The first using subsurface well data only and the second using well data and geological information of the reservoir. The two sets of models showed significant variation in the property distribution. The first set gave a more random appearance of the facies distribution while the second set gave a more realistic depiction of the depositional environment of the reservoir. We concluded that other than the grain size and the energy level of the depositional environment, another important determinant for continuity in variograms is the knowledge of the depositional space. Incorporating the knowledge of the depositional environment enabled a more accurate estimation of the variogram parameters. This resulted in an improvement in the accuracy of the model.展开更多

The schema embodying the learners background knowledge of cultural familiar materials facilitates the understanding of the text (Pritchard, 1990). Also Steffensen, Joag-Dev, and Anderson (1979) and Nelson (1987) proposed that the schemata embodying background knowledge influenced how well the text would be comprehended. However, Hudson (1982) and Carrell (1984) found there was no significant background effect in advanced level learners. From those studies, it seems that background effect is different at different language proficiency levels. Thus, the present study examines the interaction between background knowledge and language proficiency in reading comprehension. The participants were freshmen of National Chiayi University. They were divided into three language proficiency levels based on the General English Proficiency Test. Four reading comprehension tests were constructed to assess their reading comprehension: cultural familiar/unfamiliar text and topic familiar/unfamiliar text. The results of this study showed that participants had better performance on the culture/topic familiar text than the culture/topic unfamiliar text. Thus the findings suggest that the teacher can use teaching activities, such as pre-reading activities or vocabulary teaching to increase the background knowledge when teaching readings to EFL (English as a foreign language) learners展开更多

Materials and methods: Three questionnaires were addressed to patients, prescribing physicians, and the medical imaging staff for three hospitals respectively. This permitted us to assess their knowledge on the benefits and risks of the required medical exam, based on the dangers of being exposed to X-rays, especially induced-radiation cancer following the amount of X-rays received during a CT scan and the possibility of not receiving radiation as tools of diagnosis. Results: 150 patients, 84 referring doctors of CT scan tests and 60 medical imaging personnel were retained. For patients, only 7.1% received information on the benefits and risks of their exams, and 34.4% believed that x-rays were harmful to their health. For the prescribers, 46.7% took into account the benefits/risk ratio before prescribing a test and only 16.7% of the referring doctors have informed the patient of the risks related to X-ray. 90% of the medical imaging staff ensures that the required test is justified, and 50% informed the patient on the risks associated with their radiation exposure, and the increased risk of developing cancer. 65% of the imaging staff could not estimate the dose that the patient will receive during the medical test. 25% mentioned the dose received during the acquisition in the patient’s exam report. Conclusion: This study confirms that the referring doctors, the patients, and the radiologists have a low knowledge concerning the risks associated with radiation exposure during a CT scan assessment. We will therefore say that patients and prescribers are not aware of the doses of radiation on CT and their possible risks, even though there is a risk of developing cancer.展开更多

The overall goal is to assess diabetes patients’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about prevalent diabetic complications. This research used a descriptive qualitative methodology to assess diabetes complication knowledge, attitude, and practice. Ninety-eight diabetic patients were visiting the Egyptian Hospital in Mogadishu for four weeks. The data was collected using questionnaires. Finally, SPSS 20 was utilized for analysis. The research was performed from May to July 2020 with a non-probability sample size of 98 diabetics. The bulk of responders were aged 40 - 60 (36.7%). Type 2 was the most common (47.96%). 44.9% of respondents had diabetes for more than ten years. 60.2% had regular checkups, and 54.1 percent had therapy. 52% of participants were on a diet. 63.3% of respondents do not exercise often. However, most responders know the common issues (75%). Less than half of those polled had problems (41.8%). 22% incidence of Diabetic ketoacidosis. 78.6% of respondents know variables that decrease diabetes complications, whereas 22.4% do not. 37.8% of respondents saw a doctor for diabetes problems, whereas 62.2% did not. Diabetic patients’ knowledge, attitude, and practice were satisfactory for fundamental illness entanglements and self-testing. These findings may also be due to patient notification and, therefore, long-term illness that leads them to get acquainted with things alone. However, the tendency for regular exercise was low, which may produce more specific consequences of illness. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> We find that DM patients’ KAP was adequate in terms of knowledge of diabetic complications. These results may explain the patients’ long-standing illness, which forces them to discover things independently. At the same time, just a handful of them were familiar with vasculopathy and cardiovascular disorders. However, the researchers discovered low level of attitudes and practice toward regular exercise and insufficient levels of attitudes and practice toward diet management and treatment adherence. In general, this degree of KAP is suboptimal and requires further assessment of KAP obstacles in Somalia.展开更多

When they were asked to detail the diseases, cholera was the most reported by about 84.4%, diarrhea 50%, and food poisoning 22.2% only. Regarding the mothers’ knowledge about causes of food poisoning, about 65.5% of them mentioned contaminated food, and 49.4% mentioned contaminated hands while 37.2% of them mentioned contaminated utensils. The total knowledge was calculated;it was about 40.72%. Conclusion: It was found that, mothers’ knowledge about preventive measures of food poisoning is not satisfactory concerning most items including: food related diseases, causes of food poisoning and preventive measures for food poisoning such as hand washing, washing vegetables and cooking appropriately. The mothers in Yemen, Taiz, Sharaab have low level of knowledge about food poisoning prevention. There is a need for strengthening the situation through educational sessions.
文摘Variograms are important tools in the spatial distribution of facies and petrophysical properties. This resulted in an improvement in the accuracy of the model.
文摘Schema is known to play an important role in reading comprehension. Thus the findings suggest that the teacher can use teaching activities, such as pre-reading activities or vocabulary teaching to increase the background knowledge when teaching readings to EFL (English as a foreign language) learners
文摘Reading, especially reading at text level,is a process of continuously repeating, consolidating and understanding words, phrases, and sentences. However, from the perspective of psycholinguistics, the compariosn and contrast of empirical data from experiments and researches would be evidences to support the idea that reading at text level is mainly influenced by readers' ability of identifying a text's cohesion and coherence, balancing the activation and suppression of background knowledge,as well as readers' utilization of working memory.Readers can make good use of these three aspects in order to advance their understanding of reading at text level.
文摘Objective To assess the effects of fostering interventions on the infants and their families through the community. Methods A total of 309 infants born on 1st August, 2003 to 30th August, 2004 and their families were recruited as participants by cluster sampling in Longhua and Kantian sub-districts of Xuhui district, Shanghai. The newborns were randomly assigned to intervention group (156 cases) and control group (153 cases). The infants and their families will be followed up during 3-year interventions. Results After 6 months' intervention, the proportion of infants who could turn over the body in the intervention group (88.46%) was higher than that in control group (75.16%). The morbidity of upper-respiratory tract infection in intervention group (20.51%) was significantly lower than that in control group (32.68%). The incidence rates of pneumonia, diarrhea and anemia in intervention group were all lower than that in control group, except for pneumonia, the differences were not significant. Both of the knowledge about how to foster infants and service utility in intervention group were higher than that in control group. Conclusion The fostering interventions through the community promote the prevention and control of infants disease, increase the knowledge level and service util ity of families.
文摘The community living around the Cikaniki Area of Gunung Halimun Salak National Park(CAGHSNP)uses various plants to fulfill their needs.Their habits are related to indigenous knowledge of using plants as food, medicine, construction, and household utilities, which dynamic societal changes have not displaced. This study aimed to inventory and update potential plants used as food, medicine, construction, and household utilities by local communities in the Cikaniki area, and measure and analyze their cultural and ethnobotanical value. This study objected to five hamlets in the Cikaniki at Malasari Village,Nanggung District,Bogor Regency,West Java,Indonesia. The quantitative analysis was calculated based on the Informant Consensus Factor,Fidelity Level, and Use Value. We analyzed the qualitative data based on the data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation from informants and respondents in five hamlets. The study recorded 199 plant species from 75 families used by the community of CA-GHSNP.The most utilized species in Cikaniki were Staurogyne elongata,Caryota mitis,Blumea balsamifera,Castanopsis argentea,Pilea melastomoides, and Piper betle. There are 72 species of plants used as food,122species for medicinal purposes, and 50 species of plants used for construction and household utilities. The potential plant species in the CA-GHSNP,their utilization categories, and recommendation for conservation strategy are discussed.
文摘Objectives: To assess the patients and health personnel’s level of awareness on risks related to ionizing radiation during CT scan. We will therefore say that patients and prescribers are not aware of the doses of radiation on CT and their possible risks, even though there is a risk of developing cancer.
文摘<em>Diabetes </em>is a chronic illness that occurs when the pancreas stops producing insulin or when the body cannot use the produced insulin. <em>Insulin</em> is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps glucose from meals enters the body’s cells for energy. In general, this degree of KAP is suboptimal and requires further assessment of KAP obstacles in Somalia.
文摘BACKGROUND Pharmacovigilance(PV)is the activities and scientific studies conducted to detect, evaluate, understand or prevent adverse reactions and other drug-related problems.AIM To define the awareness and experiences of the clinicians on PV and adverse drug reactions(ADRs)in Turkey.METHODS The study was cross-sectional and analytical.Data were obtained through a questionnaire. The questionnaire was sent via e-mail.The survey was sent to 2030 physicians and 670 participated.RESULTS The most appropriate definition of PV was correctly defined by 53.9%of the participants. The most important goal of PV was correctly defined by 54.9%of the participants, and 27.3%of the participants were aware of the Turkish Pharmacovigilance Center.Nonsurgical physicians had better PV knowledge than surgical physicians.A total of 80.9%of the physicians who encountered ADRs,filled in the ADR notification form, and 8.8%received training on how to fill in the form.PV knowledge of the clinicians was not sufficient.Although half of the physicians encountered ADRs,the rates of seeing and filling in the ADR form were low.CONCLUSION Few of the physicians followed the current information about PV.The results provide more comprehensive data on PV practices and ADR reporting at a national level.
