Theoretically, inhibition and impulsivity could be viewed as different strategies for coping with anxiety that have the same goal—escape from negative emotions—but they seem to have different implications. Previous studies have found that the socially anxious-impulsive subgroup was higher on risk-prone behavior, as for example drug use, compared with a socially anxious-inhibited subgroup [1]. In this study, we aimed to identify these subgroups in a general population, and asked whether they also experience various levels of depressive symptoms and life satisfaction, as well as moderating effects of gender. Methods: Cluster analysis was used to identify subgroups of young adults (20 - 24 years old;N = 772) characterized by different profiles of social anxiety and impulsivity. These subgroups were compared on levels of internal adjustment, and the moderating effects of gender were also tested. Results: We identified five clusters, including an Anxious-Inhibited and an Anxious-Impulsive cluster. In the interaction between gender and cluster membership, gender showed evidence of moderation regarding both depressive symptoms and life satisfaction, with the young women in the Anxious-Inhibited and the Anxious-Impulsive clusters faring worst. Conclusions: We replicated previous findings demonstrating the existence of a socially anxious-impulsive subgroup, thus solidifying current knowledge that may be important when it comes to diagnostics and treatment. This may prove particularly important for young women regarding internalizing symptoms.展开更多

Evidence suggests that infrequent adopting healthy behaviors correlated with many chronic diseases. Healthy behaviors can lead to a marked reduction of morbidity and mortality. Life satisfaction is an important parameter of well-being. Few studies have focused on the association between healthy behaviors and life satisfaction among adults in rural areas. Aim: To establish the determinant and modifiable lifestyle factors associated with life satisfaction among rural adults. Methods: We analyzed our previous health promotion program in a rural area in 2013 obtained from 27 villages (n = 8024) in Yunlin County, Taiwan. The assessment comprised one question assessing self-reported life satisfaction on a 5-point scale (dichotomous: low satisfaction/high satisfaction) and four domain-specific items of health-related behaviors (smoking, oral hygiene, exercise, healthy diet). Logistic regression was used to examine the association between health-related behaviors and life satisfaction adjusted for age, sex, and education. Findings: The mean age was 47.6 years (SD = 16.2), and 56.7% (n = 4551) of the participants were female. Participants with lower life satisfaction reported frequently perceived dissatisfaction with sleep quality (p < 0.001) and health status (p < 0.001). After adjusting for potential confounding variables, the associated risk factors for lower life satisfaction were smoking (OR = 1.20, p = 0.006), less frequently adopted healthy behaviors including dental check (OR = 1.23, p < 0.001), infrequent teeth brushing (OR = 1.12, p = 0.022), infrequent use of dental floss (OR = 1.12, p = 0.028), infrequent consumption of a balanced diet (OR = 1.64, p < 0.001), insufficient vegetable intake (OR = 1.19, p = 0.001), insufficient water intake (OR = 1.14, p = 0.009), and infrequent regular exercise (OR = 1.26, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The findings showed that many adults did not adopt healthy habits in their life. This study identified significant unhealthy behaviors associated with lower life satisfaction, including cigarette smoking, unhealthy diet, poor oral hygiene, and physical inactivity. The enhancement of health promotion programs to improve life satisfaction through decreasing unhealthy habits is necessary for rural adults.展开更多

The traditional family institution and community support that used to be safety nest are being adversely affected by westernization. This development might have adverse effect on life satisfaction among the older adults. This hospital based cross-sectional study was designed to determine the association between support and life satisfaction among older adults. A total of 128 subjects participated in the study out of which 28.9% were satisfied with life. Expectation of support was mainly from the family, less from the community and very low from the government. The level of support received from all sources generally fell short of expectations. Marital status and source of livelihood were significantly associated with life satisfaction. There is inadequate social support from the government and support from family and community fell below expectations. Expectations of support were the most strongly correlated with life satisfaction. Support for older adults must be addressed in order to meet their expectations and improve their level of satisfaction with life.展开更多

As horizontally shown by cross-section data, significant hukou identity differences exist in the subjective happiness of households reflected in life satisfaction. However, the traditional view that "rural residents are subjectively happier than urban residents" is not verified in this study. From a vertical perspective of tracing data, the estimation results of the DID model and the PSM model indicate that a change of hukou identity for rural residents has a significantly positive effect on their subjective happiness, lending credence to the saying that "cities make life better".展开更多
文摘As adolescent mental health problems are becoming a more serious issue globally, this paper explores the relationship of physical activity in adolescents and its frequency on mental health as well as examines the mediating effects of life satisfaction and self-rated health in order to provide a reference for the promotion of mental health in adolescents.A sample of 3578 Chinese high school students completed questionnaires assessing their mental health, physical activity frequency, life satisfaction, and self-rated health. The mean SCL-90 value for adolescents was found to be 1.629%,and 24.73%of adolescents had varying degrees of mental health issue.Increased physical activity frequency is positively associated with improved mental health(p<0.001).Additionally,life satisfaction and self-rated health were found to play significant mediating roles in the relationship between physical activity frequency and mental health.Specifically,low-frequency physical activity had the most pronounced mediating effect on mental health through life satisfaction, while high-frequency physical activity exerted the most significant mediating effect on mental health through self-rated health. These findings underscore the importance of promoting physical activity among adolescents and highlight the distinct pathways through which physical activity frequency can influence mental health outcomes.Further research is needed to explore these relationships in diverse populations and settings,as well as to develop targeted intervention.

文摘BACKGROUND To our knowledge,no study has obtained specific estimates of depression for young and middle-aged adults with visual impairment(VI).As estimates of depression varies across age groups in the general population,it is of interest to examine whether the same applies to adults with low vision or blindness.AIM To estimate depression prevalence and its association with VI-related characteristics and life satisfaction in adults with VI.METHODS A telephone-based cross-sectional survey was conducted between January and May 2017 in an age-stratified sample of adults who were members of the Norwegian Association of the Blind and Partially Sighted.Participants were asked questions about their sociodemographic characteristics,VI characteristics, and life satisfaction.Depression was measured with the Patient Health Questionnaire. The diagnostic scoring algorithm was used to calculate the point prevalence of depression(i.e.,major depression and other depressive disorders)across categories of gender and age(years:18-35,36-50,51-65,≥66).The associations were estimated using regression models.RESULTS Overall,736 adults participated in the study(response rate:61%).The prevalence estimates of depression varied across different age groups, ranging from 11.1%-22.8%in women and 9.4%-16.5%in men, with the highest rates for the two youngest age groups. Results from the multivariable models including sociodemographic and VI-related variables showed that losing vision late in life[Prevalence ratio(PR),1.76,95%CI:1.11,2.79]and having other impairments(PR:1.88,95%CI:1.32,2.67)were associated with higher rates of depression, whereas older age was associated with lower rates(PR:0.83,95%CI:0.74,0.93).Additionally,participants who were depressed had lower life satisfaction than those who were not depressed(adjustedβ:-2.36,95%CI:-2.75,-1.98).CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that depression in adults with VI,and especially among young and middle-aged adults, warrants greater attention by user organisations, clinicians, and healthcare authorities.
文摘Aim:Most elderly people live with one or more health problems and their quality of life is affected. This study aimed to compare life satisfaction of elderly people living with common chronic medical illness compared with those without these health conditions in order to identify conditions that most affect life satisfaction of elderly people living in the community.Method:The data was collected by a questionnaire survey of 529 elderly living in community dwellings of Macao using a single measure of life satisfaction and self-reported common chronic medical illness diagnosed by a physician.A purposeful stratified random sampling method was used.Independent sample t-tests were conducted to compare participants who had a health condition to those without a health condition. Results:Respondents who indicated the lowest life satisfaction were those with fracture after the age of 60,eye illness, chronic bronchitis/emphysema,and metabolic arthritis/arthritis.For men, prostate problems was also significantly related to low life satisfaction. Conclusion:Lowest life satisfaction was reported among Macao elderly people living with mobility related chronic medical illness.Policies and practices should pay more attention to mobility related health problems or issues of elderly people, such as eye health and neuromuscular weaknesses.

文摘Objective:This study aimed to explore the relationship between uncertainty in illness, state anxiety, and the life satisfaction of college students during the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods:A cluster random sampling method was employed to select a total of 1522 college students from seven universities in China. The uncertainty in illness scale, state anxiety scale, and life satisfaction scale were used. Results:Uncertainty in illness had a negative effect on life satisfaction.Uncertainty in illness had a positive effect on state anxiety.State anxiety had a negative effect on life satisfaction.State anxiety played an important mediating role in the relationship between uncertainty in illness and life satisfaction-its mediating effect accounted for 17.43%of the total effect. Conclusion:A simple mediation model revealed that uncertainty in illness exerts influence both directly on life satisfaction and indirectly via state anxiety.Based upon these elucidated examples, several countermeasures and suggestions for life satisfaction are proposed.
文摘Objective:To understand the current situation of undergraduates’flow experience in leisure and life satisfaction, and to explore the relationship between the two. Methods:A stratified random sampling method was used to select 781 undergraduates(377 males and 410 females)from 7 colleges and universities in Guangdong Province. They were investigated using the Flow Experience in Leisure Questionnaire(FELQ)and the Youth Life Satisfaction Scale(YLSS).Results:The total scores of FELQ and YLSS of the students in this group are(161.73±19.81)and(174.45±26.50).FELQ’s unity of knowledge and action, challenge and skill balance, concentration, grade ranking, family economic status are positively related to YLSS’life satisfaction(β=.227,.115,.098,.158,.082,P<.05);“Like to sleep during leisure”is negatively correlated with life satisfaction of YLSS(β=-.097,P<.05);FELQ’s unity of knowledge and action, concentration, grade ranking and family economic status are positively related to YLSS’s self-satisfaction(β=.286,.126,.194,.096,P<.01);“Like to sleep during leisure”is negatively correlated with YLSS’s self-satisfaction(β=-.091,P<.01);FELQ’s unity of knowledge and action, challenge and skill balance, father’s occupation,“like self-study in leisure”are positively related to YLSS’environmental satisfaction(β=.198,.131,.075,.073,P<.05);“Like to sleep during leisure”,gender and YLSS environment satisfaction negatively correlated(β=-.094,-.091,P<.01).Conclusion:Flow experience in leisure, types of leisure activities, gender, grade ranking and family factors(family economic status and father’s occupation)may be related factors for the development of college students’life satisfaction.
文摘Purpose: Socially anxious people are typically thought of as being behaviorally inhibited;however, an atypical subgroup, which is impulsive rather than inhibited, has recently been identified [1]. This may prove particularly important for young women regarding internalizing symptoms.
文摘Purpose:The present study aimed to examine the link between physical activity(PA)and life satisfaction in a large international study of adolescents. We also aimed to test whether overweight and underweight perceptions act as mediators and whether age and sex acted as moderators. Methods:For this purpose,we analyzed data from the Health Behavior in School-aged Children study, which comprises 727,865 observations from 44 nations at 4 measurement occasions. Results:Multilevel analyses revealed a positive link between PA and life satisfaction. In addition, underweight and overweight perceptions mediated the effect of PA on life satisfaction. We further found that age and sex acted as moderators. In older adolescents, stronger effects were found in the links between PA and life satisfaction,PA and overweight perception, and both weight perceptions and life satisfaction. In addition,in female adolescents, the link between overweight perception and life satisfaction was stronger.Conversely, the links between PA and both weight perceptions were stronger for boys. Conclusion:The results suggest that weight perception explains part of the relationship between PA and life satisfaction in adolescents and that these effects vary as a function of age and sex.

文摘Eco-migrants'ability to adapt to livelihood risks and their satisfaction with lives directly affect the ecological and economic benefits of ecological migration engineering. To formulate an effective livelihood risk prevention system and welfare guarantee mechanism,we took the ecomigrants in Wuwei City as an example, developed an integrated analytical framework for life satisfaction and employed linear regression models to identify the interactions between livelihood risk and life satisfaction. Our findings indicate that 94.66%of eco-migrants in Wuwei City are threatened by livelihood risks after relocation.High living expenses, poor quality of redistributed production goods, and re-poverty constitute the main risks. The risk multiplicity index is 2.96.Besides cultural types, there are no significant differences in regions and livelihoods.A total of 55.73%of eco-migrants are satisfied with their lives, with the Liangzhou district scoring the highest.Except for satisfaction with development potential and public services,no significant intergroup differences were found among regions and livelihood patterns.Eco-migrant's life satisfaction is significantly affected by livelihood risks.Eco-migrants'satisfaction with living income, social integration,farmer-friendly policies and overall life is negatively affected by the risk of repoverty and inadequate social security. An ecomigrant's satisfaction with development potential and community construction is not influenced by one type of risk alone, but the interaction between risks has a strong influence. The interaction of welfare risks with economic risks and policy risks will balance and weaken the adverse effects of a single risk on those elements in the economic and policy spheres. This study offers novel ideas for rural revitalization, hollow governance, and well-being assurance.

文摘While the effect of self-esteem stability on life satisfaction is widely verified,it is not very known how coping strategies explain this relationship. The present study focused on proactive coping,a preliminary step to minimize the impact of expected stressors, and a process of recognizing stressful events as challenges and actively managing them.Specifically, this study(N=280)examined whether proactive coping and perceived stress mediated the relationship between self-esteem stability and life satisfaction in a sequential manner. The results indicate that proactive coping and perceived stress sequentially mediated the relationship between self-esteem stability and life satisfaction, respectively. This demonstrates that proactive coping and perceived stress are factors that link self-esteem and life satisfaction. However, there was no direct effect between self-esteem and life satisfaction. These findings suggest the need to consider combining proactive coping interventions to increase the effectiveness of a self-esteem stability promotion program. The practical implications and suggestions for future research are also discussed.
文摘Using a sample of 655 individuals from 15-year olds to 79-year olds, the present research found that teenagers want to be older than their age and older people above 20-24 want to be younger than their age. Furthermore, life satisfaction has a major impact on the age people want to be in crises years, before the age of 40, 50, 60 and 70. Those with high life satisfaction more than those with low life satisfaction tend to have a more realistic ideal age, that is, closer to their actual age.
文摘Background: Chronic diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide. The enhancement of health promotion programs to improve life satisfaction through decreasing unhealthy habits is necessary for rural adults.
文摘Objective: The aim of this study was to determine Effectiveness Life Review on Life Satisfaction among Adolescents under the Supervision of Qazvin Well-being Center 2012-2013. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental research including experimental and control groups with a pretest-posttest design. Data were analyzed by using Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), using SPSS software. Results: Results indicated that life review therapy was effective in increasing male adolescents’ life satisfaction living in the welfare center. Conclusion: Life review therapy improves quality of life and life satisfaction;therefore, this treatment can be used as an effective method to improve the living conditions of young people.
文摘This study links social capital with people’s health and well-being using data from the seventh wave of the World Value Survey, logistic regression, and path analysis. The study’s findings show that happiness and life satisfaction are two different measures of the same construct,or well-being.The determinants of each are also characterised differently:while life satisfaction is more of a stable and relative measure and is more strongly influenced by civic cooperation, social participation, and educational attainment, happiness is more of an unstable measure and is more strongly influenced by community belonging, trust and confidence aggregates, including employment and location of residence of an individual. Moreover, freedom of choice, financial satisfaction or social comparison, and state of health were the most important factors influencing happiness and life satisfaction. The findings also show that self-reported health(SRH)has a greater impact on happiness than a measure of life satisfaction.Path analysis shows out of the three other components of social capital—community belonging, civic engagement, and social participation—trust and confidence aggregates are the ones that have the biggest impact on increased social capital. For both well-being measures,SRH mediated the relationship. The life satisfaction measure had a higher level of mediation of SRH than happiness, but social capital had a smaller direct impact on life satisfaction than on happiness.SRH was found to be partially mediating this relationship for both happiness and life satisfaction measures, which means that people with higher social capital reported feeling better off.
文摘Many developing countries like Nigeria lack policy for the care of the older adults and this creates major challenges for the elderly population. Support for older adults must be addressed in order to meet their expectations and improve their level of satisfaction with life.
文摘This paper examines the relationship between a change of hukou and househoM satisfaction about life based on large-sample China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) data. As horizontally shown by cross-section data, significant hukou identity differences exist in the subjective happiness of households reflected in life satisfaction. However, the traditional view that "rural residents are subjectively happier than urban residents" is not verified in this study. From a vertical perspective of tracing data, the estimation results of the DID model and the PSM model indicate that a change of hukou identity for rural residents has a significantly positive effect on their subjective happiness, lending credence to the saying that "cities make life better".
