In this paper, the fabricated white OLED contains a 452-nm blue emitting layer (thickness of 30 nm) with 1 wt% LOFX doped in CBP (4,4'-bis(carbazol-9-yl)biphenyl) host and a 584-nm orange emitting layer (thickness of 10 nm) with 0.8 wt% DCJTB (4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-tert-butyl-6-(1,1,7,7- tetramethyljulolidin-4-yl-vinyl)-4H-pyran) doped in CBE which are separated by a 20-nm-thick buffer layer of TPBi (2,2',2"-(benzene-1,3,5-triyl)-tri(1-phenyl-lH-benzimidazole). A high color rendering index (CRI) of 84.5 and CIE chromaticity coordinates of (0.33, 0.32), which is close to ideal white emission CIE (0.333, 0.333), are obtained at a bias voltage of 14 V. Taking into account that LOFX is less expensive and the synthesis and purification technologies of LOFX are mature, these results indicate that blue fluorescence emitting LOFX is useful for applications to white OLEDs although the maximum current efficiency and luminance are not high. The present paper is expected to become a milestone to using medical drug materials for OLEDs.展开更多

The photoelectricity properties of those LEDs are studied. The results show that the Au/Zn/Au electrode greatly improves the performance of LEDs compared with the other electrodes. Because the Au/Zn/Au electrode not only forms a good Ohmic contact with indium tin oxide (ITO), but also reduces the specific contact resistances between ITO and GaP, which are 1.273× 10^-6 Ω·cm^2 and 1.743× 10^-3 Ω·cm^2 between Au/Zn/Au-ITO and ITO-GaP respectively. Furthermore, the textured Zn/Au-ITO/Zn electrode is designed to improve the performances of LEDs, reduce the forward-voltage of the LED from 1.93 to 1.88 V, and increase the luminous intensity of the LEDs from 126 to 134 mcd when driven at 20 mA.展开更多

The results demonstrate that the introduction of a nanopillar structure can improve the light extraction efficiency greatly. We also find that the number, height, and position of nanopillars all affect the light extraction of OLEDs. The maximum power efficiency of a device with an optimized nanopillar patterning mode can be improved to 2.47 times that of the reference device. This enhancement in light extraction originates from the improved injected carriers, the broadened charge recombination zone, and the intensified wave guiding effects.展开更多

However, the development of efficient yellow LEDs lags behind green and blue LEDs, and the available perovskites yellow LEDs suffer from the instability. Herein, a pressure-assisted cooling method is proposed to grow lead-free CsCu2I3single crystals, which possess uniform surface morphology and enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY) stability, with only 10% PLQY losses after being stored in air after 5000 h.Then, the single crystals used for yellow LEDs without encapsulation exhibit a decent Correlated Color Temperature(CCT) of 4290 K, a Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage(CIE) coordinate of(0.38, 0.41), and an excellent 570-h operating stability under heating temperature of 100°C. Finally, the yellow LEDs facilitate the application in wireless visible light communication(VLC), which show a-3 dB bandwidth of 21.5 MHz and a high achievable data rate of 219.2 Mbps by using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) modulation with adaptive bit loading. The present work not only promotes the development of lead-free single crystals, but also inspires the potential of CsCu2I3in the field of yellow illumination and wireless VLC.展开更多

Thus, the development of single-source, environment-friendly colloidal semiconductor nanocrystal (NC) phosphors with broadband emission spectra is highly desirable for use as color converters in white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs). We report herein the gram-scale synthesis of single-source, cadmium-free, dual-emissive Mn-doped Zn-Cu-In-S NCs (d-dots) by a simple, non-injection, low-cost, one-pot approach. This synthesis method led to the formation of NCs with continuously varying compositions in a radial direction because each precursor had a different reactivity. Consequently, the d-dots exhibited two emission bands, one that could be attributed to Mn emission and a second that could be ascribed to the band edge of the Zn-Cu-In-S NCs. The emission peaks assigned to band edge were tunable by modifying the particle size and composition. The prepared d-dots also exhibited the characteristic zero self-absorption, a quantum yield of 46%, and good thermal stability. Combining a commercial blue light-emitting diode (LED) chip with optimized d-dots as color converters gave a high color rendering index of up to 90, Commission Internationale de l'eclairage color coordinates of (0.332, 0.321), and a correlated color temperature of 5,680 K. These results suggest that cadmium-free, thermally stable, single-phase d-dot phosphors have potential applications in WLEDs.展开更多

The extraction efficiency for LEDs with microsphere arrays was investigated by focusing on the effect of the packing density, packing configuration, and diameter-to-period ratio. The comparison studies revealed the importance of having a hexagonal and close-packed monolayer microsphere array configuration for achieving optimum extraction efficiency, which translated into a 3.6-fold enhancement in light extraction compared to that for a planar LED. This improvement is attributed to the reduced Fresnel reflection and enlarged light escape cone. The engineering of the far-field radiation patterns was also demonstrated by tuning the packing density and packing configuration of the microsphere arrays.展开更多

The as-fabricated via-TF-LEDs were featured with a roughened n-GaN surface and the p-GaN surface bonded to a wafer carrier with a silver-based reflective electrode, together with an array of embedded n-type via pillar metal contact from the p-GaN surface etched through the multiple-quantum-wells (MQWs) into the n-GaN layer. When operated at 350 mA, the via-TF- LED gave an enhanced blue LOP by 7.8% and over 3.5 times as compared to the vertical thin-film LED (TF-LED) and the conventional lateral structure LED (LS-LED). After covering with yellow phosphor that converts some blue photons into yellow light, the via-TF-LED emitted an enhanced white luminous flux by 13.5% and over 5 times, as compared with the white TF-LED and the white LS-LED, respectively. The significant LOP improve- ment of the via-TF-LED was attributed to the elimination of light absorption by the Si (111) epitaxial substrate and the finger-like n-electrodes on the roughened emitting surface.展开更多

The present paper is expected to become a milestone to using medical drug materials for OLEDs.

文摘In this paper AlGaInP light emitting diodes with different types of electrodes: Au/Zn/Au-ITO Au/Ti-ITO Au/Ge/Ni-ITO and Au-ITO are fabricated. Furthermore, the textured Zn/Au-ITO/Zn electrode is designed to improve the performances of LEDs, reduce the forward-voltage of the LED from 1.93 to 1.88 V, and increase the luminous intensity of the LEDs from 126 to 134 mcd when driven at 20 mA.

文摘Background:Pterygium is a sun-related ocular surface disease secondary to ultraviolet(UV)radiation exposure.Outdoor occupational UV exposure is known to occur secondary to sun exposure. We present a unique case of pterygium associated with indoor occupational light-emitting diode(LED)exposure not previously described in the literature.Case Description:A mobile phone repairer presented with blurred vision and a superotemporal pterygium of his dominant left eye associated with a magnifying glass LED work lamp was diagnosed. This was excised routinely with conjunctival autografting to the defect.Histopathology confirmed benign pterygium and recovery was uncomplicated with resolution of blur. Conclusions:The development of pterygium in our patient may have arisen due to the LED lamp’s wavelengths possibly falling within the UV as well as the upper end of the visible light radiation spectrum.Given the increasing reliance on LED light sources in modern life, ocular conditions arising from exposure to these radiation sources may now need to be listed in the differential diagnoses of patients with pterygium.Appropriate UV protection counselling for these types of lights may also now need to be considered.

文摘ABSTRACT Embedding submicrocavities is an effective approach to improve the light out-coupling efficiency(LOCE)for planar perovskite light-emitting diodes(PeLEDs).In this work,we employ phenethylammonium iodide(PEAI)to trigger the Ostwald ripening for the downward recrystallization of perovskite, resulting in spontaneous formation of buried submicrocavities as light output coupler. The simulation suggests the buried submicrocavities can improve the LOCE from 26.8 to 36.2%for near-infrared light. Therefore,PeLED yields peak external quantum efficiency(EQE)increasing from 17.3%at current density of 114 mA cm^(−2)to 25.5%at current density of 109 mA cm^(−2)and a radiance increasing from 109 to 487 W sr^(−1)m^(−2)with low rolling-off.The turn-on voltage decreased from 1.25 to 1.15 V at 0.1 W sr^(−1)m^(−2).Besides,downward recrystallization process slightly reduces the trap density from 8.90×10^(15)to 7.27×10^(15)cm^(−3).This work provides a self-assembly method to integrate buried output coupler for boosting the performance of PeLEDs.

文摘We have investigated the properties of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with a nanopillar patterning structure at organic-metal or organic-organic interfaces. This enhancement in light extraction originates from the improved injected carriers, the broadened charge recombination zone, and the intensified wave guiding effects.

文摘Hair loss can cause psychological distress. Here, red organic light-emitting diode(OLED)light source is first introduced as the photobiomodulation therapy(PBMT)for hair growth and demonstrated as a promising and non-invasive therapeutic modality for alopecia.OLED exhibits unique advantages of homogeneous irradiation, flexible in form factor, less heat generation. These features enable OLED to be an ideal candidate for wearable PBMT light sources.A systematic study of using red OLEDs to facilitate hair growth was conducted. The results show that OLEDs excellently promote hair regrowth.OLED irradiation can increase the length of the hair by a factor of 1.5 as compared to the control, the hair regrowth area is enlarged by over 3 times after 20 days of treatments. Moreover, the mechanism of OLED that stimulates hair follicle regeneration is investigated invivo by conducting a systematic controlled experiments on mice with or without OLED PBMT.Based on the comprehensive histological and immunofluorescence staining studies, two key factors are identified for red OLEDs to facilitate hair follicle regeneration:(i)increased autophagy during the anagen phase of the hair growth cycle;(ii)increased blood oxygen content promoted by the accelerated microvascular blood flow.

文摘Yellow light-emitting diodes(LEDs) as soft light have attracted abundant attention in lithography room, museum and art gallery. The present work not only promotes the development of lead-free single crystals, but also inspires the potential of CsCu2I3in the field of yellow illumination and wireless VLC.

文摘The global demand for resource sustainability is growing. These results suggest that cadmium-free, thermally stable, single-phase d-dot phosphors have potential applications in WLEDs.

文摘High-voltage light-emitting diodes (HV-LED) with backside reflector, including Ti305/SiO2 distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) or hybrid reflector combining DBR and Al or Ag metal layer, are investigated using Monte Carlo ray tracing method. The hybrid reflector leads to more enhancement of light-extraction efficiency (LEE). Moreover, the LEE can also be improved by redesigning the thicknesses of DBR. HV-LED with four redesigned DBR pairs (4-MDBR), and those with a hybrid reflector combining 4-MDBR and Al metal layer (4-MDBR-Al), are fabricated. Compared to 4-MDBR, the enhancement of light-output power induced by 4-MDBR-A1 is 4.6%, which is consistent with the simulated value of 4.9%.

文摘The finite-difference time-domain method was employed to calculate light extraction efficiency of thin-film flip-chip In Ga N/Ga N quantum well light-emitting diodes(LEDs) with TiO2 microsphere arrays. The engineering of the far-field radiation patterns was also demonstrated by tuning the packing density and packing configuration of the microsphere arrays.

文摘This work reports the fabrication of via-thin-film light-emitting diode (via-TF-LED) to improve the light output power (LOP) of blue/white GaN-based LEDs grown on Si (111) substrates. The significant LOP improve- ment of the via-TF-LED was attributed to the elimination of light absorption by the Si (111) epitaxial substrate and the finger-like n-electrodes on the roughened emitting surface.

文摘The internal quantum efficiency(IQE) of the light-emitting diodes can be calculated by the ratio of the external quantum efficiency(EQE) and the light extraction efficiency(LEE).The EQE can be measured experimentally, but the LEE is difficult to calculate due to the complicated LED structures. In this work,a model was established to calculate the LEE by combining the transfer matrix formalism and an in-plane ray tracing method. With the calculated LEE,the IQE was determined and made a good agreement with that obtained by the ABC model and temperature-dependent photoluminescence method. The proposed method makes the determination of the IQE more practical and conventional.
