Two typical RC shear wall specimens in th...The deformation performance index limits of high reinforced concrete (RC) shear wall components based on Chinese codes were discussed by the nonlinear finite element method. Two typical RC shear wall specimens in the previous work were first used to verify the correctness of the nonlinear finite element method. Then, the nonlinear finite element method was applied to study the deformability of a set of high RC shear wall components designed according to current Chinese codes and with shear span ratio λ≥2.0. Parametric studies were made on the influence of shear span ratio, axial compression ratio, ratio of flexural capacity to shear capacity and main flexural reinforcement ratio of confined botmdary members. Finally, the deformation performance index and its limits of high RC shear wall components under severe earthquakes were proposed by the finite element model results, which offers a reference in determining the performance status of RC shear wall components designed based on Chinese codes.展开更多

This contributes to conducting the SLS reliability-based design(RBD) o...The objective is to develop an approach for the determination of the target reliability index for serviceability limit state(SLS) of single piles. This contributes to conducting the SLS reliability-based design(RBD) of piles. Based on a two-parameter,hyperbolic curve-fitting equation describing the load-settlement relation of piles, the SLS model factor is defined. Then, taking into account the uncertainties of load-settlement model, load and bearing capacity of piles, the formula for computing the SLS reliability index(βsls) is obtained using the mean value first order second moment(MVFOSM) method. Meanwhile, the limit state function for conducting the SLS reliability analysis by the Monte Carlo simulation(MCS) method is established. These two methods are finally applied to determine the SLS target reliability index. Herein, the limiting tolerable settlement(slt) is treated as a random variable. For illustration, four load test databases from South Africa are compiled again to conduct reliability analysis and present the recommended target reliability indices. The results indicate that the MVFOSM method overestimates βsls compared to that computed by the MCS method. Besides, both factor of safety(FS) and slt are key factors influencing βsls, so the combination of FS and βsls is welcome to be used for the SLS reliability analysis of piles when slt is determined. For smaller slt, pile types and soils conditions have significant influence on the SLS target reliability indices; for larger slt, slt is the major factor having influence on the SLS target reliability indices. This proves that slt is the most key parameter for the determination of the SLS target reliability index.展开更多

We have selected the height of the water-conducting fracture zone in overlying strata as a composite index and established the applicable conditions of aquifer-protective mining in shallow coal seams with a multi-factor synthetic-index classification method. From our calculations and analyses of variance, we used factors such as the overlying strata strength, mining disturbing factors and rock integrity as related factors of the composite index. We have classified the applicable conditions of aquifer-protective mining in shallow coal seams into seven types by comparing the result of the height of water-conducting fractured zones of long-wall and short-wall working faces with the thickness of the bedrock, the thickness of the weathered zone and the size of safety coal-rock pillars. As a result, we propose the preliminary classification system of aquifer-protective mining in shallow coal seams. It can provide a theoretical guidance for safe applications of aquifer-protective mining technology in shallow coal seams under similar conditions.展开更多

Subsequently, the benzoxazine monomer...The novel benzoxazine monomer containing phosphorus has been synthesized based on multifianctional amine route from bis(4-aminophenyl)phenylphosphate, p-cresol and formaldehyde. Subsequently, the benzoxazine monomer was thermo-cured into polybenzoxazine containing phosphorus. The chemical structures were identified by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The curing reaction was monitored by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and FT-IR. The thermal and flame-retardant properties of obtained polybenzoxazine were evaluated by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMA), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) and oxygen index meter, respectively. The results show that the novel polybenzoxazine has high limiting oxygen index (38.1) and glass transition temperature (232℃).展开更多
Six new optically active and flame-retardant poly(amide-imide)s PAls 5a-5f containing phosphine oxide moiety as a flame-retardant unit in the main chain were synthesized from direct polycondensation reaction of six ...Six new optically active and flame-retardant poly(amide-imide)s PAls 5a-5f containing phosphine oxide moiety as a flame-retardant unit in the main chain were synthesized from direct polycondensation reaction of six chiral N,N'-(pyromellitoyl)-bis-L-amino acid 3a-3f with bis(3-aminophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide 4 in a medium consisting of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), triphenyl phosphite (TPP), calcium chloride (CaCl2) and pyridine. The polymerization reactions produced a series of optically active poly(amide-imide)s with good yield and good inherent viscosity of 0.34-0.70 dLg^-1. The resulted polymers were fully characterized by means of FTIR and ^1H-NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), elemental analyses, inherent viscosity and solubility tests. Thermal properties and flameretardant behavior of the PAIs 5a-5f were investigated using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA and DTG) and limiting oxygen index (LOI). Data obtained by thermal analysis (TGA and DTG) revealed that these polymers showed good thermal stability. Furthermore, high char yield in TGA and good LOI values indicated that the resulting polymers were capable of exhibiting good flame retardant properties. N,N'-(pyromellitoyl)-bis-L-amino acids 3a-3f were prepared in quantitative yields by the condensation reaction of pyromellitic dianhydride (1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylicacid-1,2,4,5-dianhydride) 1 with L-alanine 2a, L-valine 2b, L-leucine 2c, L-isoleucine 2d, L-phenyl alanine 2e and L-2-aminobutyric acid 2f in acetic acid solution.展开更多
