The adsorption characteristics have been investigated with respect to effect of pH, equilibrium isotherms, removal kinetic data, and interference of the coexisting ions. The results indicated that the Cd^2+ could be efficiently removed using MnO2 loaded D301 resin in the pH range of 3-8 from aqueous solutions with the co-existence of high concentration of alkali and alkaline-earth metals ions. The saturate adsorption capacity of the Cd^2+ was 77.88 mg/g. The adsorption process followed the pseudo first-order kinetics. The equilibrium data obtained in this study accorded excellently with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.展开更多

In vitro studies have shown high local antibiotic concentration for many hours or few days after its use. Antibiotic loaded bone cement(ALBC) is helpful when treating an infection in total knee arthroplasty(TKA) revision surgery. The purpose of this paper was to review the evidence for the routine use of ALBC in TKA in the literature, its pros and cons. Many authors have recommended the use of ALBC also in primary TKA for infection prophylaxis, but the evidence based on data from National Registries, randomized clinical trials and meta-analysis suggest a protective effect of ALBC against infection when used in hips, but not(or only mild) in knees. A possible explanation to this finding is that the duration and quantity of locally elevated antibiotic levels after surgery are smaller in TKA, due to the smaller amount of cement used for fixation in TKA-only a layer in the bone surface. There are some concerns about the routine use of ALBC in primary TKA as prophylaxis against infection: Firstly, there is a risk of hypersensivity or toxicity even when the chance is highly improbable. Secondly, there is a reduction in the mechanical properties of the cement, but this can be probably neglected if the antibiotic is used in low doses, not more than 1 g per 40 g cement package. Another significant concern is the increased economic cost, which could be overlooked if there were enough savings in treating fewer prosthetic infections. Finally, there is also a risk of selection of antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria and this could be the main concern. If used, the choice of the antibiotic mixed in ALBC should consider microbiological aspects(broad antimicrobial spectrum and low rate of resistant bacteria), physical and chemical aspects(thermal stability, high water solubility), pharmacological characteristics(low risk to allergic reactions or toxicity) and economic aspects(not too expensive). The most commonly used antibiotics in ALBC are gentamicin, tobramycin and vancomycin. In conclusion, there is a paucity of randomized clinical trials in the use of ALBC in primary TKAs and the actual evidence of the effect of ALBC in reducing the risk of infection is insufficient. This, in addition to concerns about patient safety, risks of increase in the antibiotic resistance of microorganisms and the increase in costs in the procedure, lead us to recommend a cautious use of ALBC, perhaps only in high-risk patients(immunocompromised, morbidly obese, diabetic and patients with previous history of fracture or infection around the knee) unless the benefits of ALBC use were fully proven. Meanwhile, the rigorous use of peri-operative prophylactic systemic antibiotics and adoption of efficient antiseptic procedures and improved surgical techniques must be considered the gold standard in infection prevention in TKA surgery.展开更多

This paper presents a dynamic model to investigate the skidding of a rolling element bearing under radial load when the rolling element is entering into the load zone. In this dynamic model, the effects of the contact forces, friction forces on the rolling element-race and rolling element-cage interfaces, gravity, and the centrifugal forces of rolling elements are taken into consideration. The Hertzian contact theory is applied to calculate the non-linear contact forces. The Coulomb friction law is used to calculate the friction forces. The differential equations of rotational motion of the rolling element with regard to its central axis and the central axis of the outer ring are established respectively. The dynamic equations are then solved by using a fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm. The skidding characteristics of rolling element at the entry into the loaded zone are exposed, and the effects of the operating parameters on skidding behavior are carefully investigated.展开更多

R/1 strain of senescence accelerated mouse (SAM) at eleven months old was used. Two groups of males and two groups of females each consisting of 7 mice were used. One male and one female groups were loaded with a swim regiment of 40 min a day, 5 days a week for 6 consecutive weeks. The remaining groups were used as the controls. All mice were fed with the standard diet and water ad libitum during the experiments. The results of this study indicated that (i) the hady weight was significantly (P<0.05) lower in the swimming groups than in the control groups in boh sexes. (ii) The bone density was significantly higher (P <0.05) in the swimming groups than in the control groups in boh sexes. However, there was no sighficant difference in cortical thickness index. (iii) In the mechanical properties of bone, there were no significant differences in the level of the maximum breaking force, the ultimate stress and the deformation between the swimndng and the contro groups in beth sexes. However, the elasticity of the bone of the female hoce in the swimming group was significantly higher (P<0.05) than that of the control group. These results suggest that regimented swimming for the aged mice might suppress age-associated bone loss, and the effect of exercise in the females is greater that in the males.展开更多

We have applied the fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) approach to quantify load-induced fluid and solute transport in the LCS in situ, but the measurements were limited to cortical regions 30-50 μm underneath the periosteum due to the constrains of laser penetration. With this work, we aimed to expand our understanding of load-induced fluid and solute transport in both trabecular and cortical bone using a multiscaled image-based finite element analysis (FEA) approach. An intact murine tibia was first re-constructed from microCT images into a three-dimensional (3D) linear elastic FEA model, and the matrix deformations at various locations were calculated under axial loading. A segment of the above 3D model was then imported to the biphasic poroelasticity analysis platform (FEBio) to predict load-induced fluid pressure fields, and interstitial solute/fluid flows through LCS in both cortical and trabecular regions. Further, secondary flow effects such as the shear stress and/or drag force acting on osteocytes, the presumed mechano-sensors in bone, were derived using the previously developed ultrastructural model of Brinkman flow in the canaliculi. The material properties assumed in the FEA models were validated against previously obtained strain and FRAP transport data measured on the cortical cortex. Our results demonstrated the feasibility of this computational approach in estimating the fluid flux in the LCS and the cellular stimulation forces (shear and drag forces) for osteocytes in any cortical and trabecular bone locations, allowing further studies of how the activation of osteocytes correlates with in vivo functional bone formation. The study provides a promising platform to reveal potential cellular mechanisms underlying the anabolic power of exercises and physical activities in treating patients with skeletal deficiencies.展开更多

The experiment need 200 tonnes gadolinium loaded liquid scintillator (Gd-LS) as target. The purpose of this research is to develop suitable Gd-LS candidates for this experiment, which should have long attenuation length, high light yield, long term stability, and should be compatible with the material used to build the containers. Two kinds of Gd-LS were developed using carboxylic acids 2-ethylhexanoic acid (EHA) and 3, 5, 5-trimethylhexanoic acid (TMHA) as complexing ligands and mesitylene and linear alkyl benzene (LAB) as scintillator solvents. Four Gd-LS samples with different Gd content and complexing ligands were prepared and characterized. The relative light yields and the stabilities of all samples are satisfying, and the values of attenuation length show that TMHA is a better ligand than EHA.展开更多

文摘MnO2 loaded weak basic anion exchange resin D301 (Anion exchange resin, macroreticular weak basic styrene) as adsorbent has been prepared and applied to the removal of cadmium. The equilibrium data obtained in this study accorded excellently with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.
文摘By using MTS815 rock mechanics test system,a series of acoustic emission(AE) location experiments were performed under unloading confining pressure, increasing the axial stress. The AE space-time evolution regularities and energy releasing characteristics during deformation and failure process of coal of different loading rates are compared, the influence mechanism of loading rates on the microscopic crack evolution were studied, combining the AE characteristics and the macroscopic failure modes of the specimens, and the precursory characteristics of coal failure were also analyzed quantitatively. The results indicate that as the loading rate is higher, the AE activity and the main fracture will begin earlier. The destruction of coal body is mainly the function of shear strain at lower loading rate and tension strain at higher rate, and will transform from brittleness to ductility at critical velocities. When the deformation of the coal is mainly plasticity, the amplitude of the AE ringing counting rate increases largely and the AE energy curves appear an obvious ''step'',which can be defined as the first failure precursor point.Statics of AE information shows that the strongest AE activity begins when the axial stress level was 92-98%,which can be defined as the other failure precursor point. As the loading rate is smaller, the coal more easily reaches the latter precursor point after the first one,so attention should be aroused to prevent dynamic disaster in coal mining when the AE activity reaches the first precursor point.
文摘Bone cement has the capacity to release antibiotic molecules if any antibiotic is included in it, and these elution properties are improved as cement porosity is increased. Meanwhile, the rigorous use of peri-operative prophylactic systemic antibiotics and adoption of efficient antiseptic procedures and improved surgical techniques must be considered the gold standard in infection prevention in TKA surgery.

文摘Skidding which occurs when rolling element entering into the loaded zone is prone to cause wear and incipient failure to the raceways and rolling elements. The skidding characteristics of rolling element at the entry into the loaded zone are exposed, and the effects of the operating parameters on skidding behavior are carefully investigated.
文摘Effects of swirnming on bone density and mechanical properties of femur were investigated in aged male and female mice. These results suggest that regimented swimming for the aged mice might suppress age-associated bone loss, and the effect of exercise in the females is greater that in the males.
文摘Chinese four-character idioms loaded with color words are the typical symbol of the Chinese culture and their transition is important to Chinese-English dictionaries. The quality of the dictionary and users' understanding are affected by the correctness and appropriateness of their translation. This paper mainly focuses on the translation of four-character Chinese idioms with color words in New Century Chinese-English Dictionary. The research shows that there are three strategies for Chinese fourcharacter idioms loaded with color words in the dictionaries:literal translation, free translation and the integration of literal translation and annotative translation.

文摘The transport of fluid, nutrients, and signaling molecules in the bone lacunar-canalicular system (LCS) is critical for osteocyte survival and function. The study provides a promising platform to reveal potential cellular mechanisms underlying the anabolic power of exercises and physical activities in treating patients with skeletal deficiencies.

文摘Daya Bay reactor anti-neutrino experiment is designed to measure an important parameter, θ13, of neutrino by using anti-neutrino created by Daya Bay and Ling Ao nuclear power plants. The relative light yields and the stabilities of all samples are satisfying, and the values of attenuation length show that TMHA is a better ligand than EHA.

文摘The Initial Imperfection Amplified Criterion is applied toinvestigate the geometric nonlinear dynamic buckling of staticallypreloaded ring-stiffened cylindrical shells under axial fluid-solidimpact. Tak- ing account of the effects of large deformation andinitial geometric imperfection, the governing equations are obtainedby the Galerkin method and solved by the Runge-Kutta method. Theeffects of static preloading (uniform external radial pressure) onthe buckling features and the load-carrying ability of ring-stiffenedcy- lindrical shells against axial impact are discussed.
