Research on the Local Culture and Corresponding Influences on English Linguistics from the Etymology Perspective

In this paper, we conduct research on the local culture and corresponding influences on the English linguistics from the etymology perspective. In the form of linguistics, language is a form of system, the research is in the form of the combination of form and meaning, language learning is rules and skills to master. In systemic functional linguistics, language is a system the study is in the context of significance. Language learning, therefore, the use of language, masters the language knowledge and skills in practice and the social culture. From a social point of view of language learning, language learning is no longer the pure knowledge and skills to master the cognitive process of memory, but a process of social interaction between individuals. Our research starts form the in-depth analysis of the etymology to propose novel perspective that is innovative and meaningful.

Value and Measures of Integrating Local Red Culture into the Ideological and Political Course of Environmental Disciplines under the OBE Concept

Based on output-oriented education,the OBE(Outcome-Based Education)concept integrates local red culture into the ideological and political course of environmental disciplines,and is an important part of training applied talents of environmental disciplines in the new era.This educational model makes an innovation on the traditional educational and teaching concepts and centers on students.This paper analyzes the value of integrating local red culture into the ideological and political course under the OBE concept,and puts forward an effective implementation path.

A Study on the Participation of Foreign Students in Local Cultural and Folk Activities in Wenzhou

The number of foreign students studying in Wenzhou, China has increased dramatically as a result of the Belt and Road Initiative. Learning the motivations and leisure constraints of foreign students' participation in local cultural and folk activities in Wenzhou is beneficial to promoting cultural adaptation, strengthening Chinese cultural self-confidence, and improving Wenzhou's international image. Based on the hierarchical model of leisure constraints (personal constraints, interpersonal constraints, and structural constraints), this study has tended to focus on the leisure constraints for foreign students participating in local folk and cultural activities in Wenzhou. A total of seven participants were included in the analysis.

Protection and Inheritance of Native Culture in the Landscape Design of Characteristic Towns

Chinese culture has a long history. Native culture, as an important part of China's traditional culture heritage, is rich in variety. In characteristic towns, native culture has strong local characteristics, and its protection and heritage has great value. This paper aimed to inherit traditional culture, protect the local characteristics of the towns, endow the town landscape with a unique cultural value, enhance people's cultural cohesion and identity of local culture and create characteristic towns with strong cultural characteristics.

Play the role of the university libraries in the research and heritage of the local cultural protection

The libraries, especially the university libraries, are the important gathering places of the human cultural knowledge and the inheritance, which usually house some important and rare historical literature books and materials. Especially the local university libraries in the minority agglomeration regions collect the cultural resources with the local ethnic characteristics, so the local university libraries should have the better geographical advantages and the advantages of the subject resources to give full play to the unique functions and values to study and inherit the local cultural protection.

Designing Locally Relevant Instructional Material for Indonesian EFL Classroom

Meaningful teaching and learning can be achieved when the materials are closely related to the learners’real life.This research focuses on language and culture for the materials suitable for the first semester students of EFL class at the University of Palangka Raya.The design-based research was applied to provide sources consisting of environmental linguistic expres-sions within the eco-linguistic perspective and using a text-based or gen-re-based approach by selecting suitable texts for the level.The Product of Instructional Material shows at least two benefits:(1)as the source of the main module of Intensive Course in writing skill for the first-year students of English Education in Central Kalimantan,and(2)the solution for en-couraging the teachers to modify the provided material which can cover the national standard(KKNI)as well as promoting the local values to strength-en local cultures to have meaningful teaching and learning process.

Evaluation on Tourism Ecological Security in Nature Heritage Sites——Case of Kanas Nature Reserve of Xinjiang,China

The nature heritages are the precious legacy of nature with outstanding scientific and aesthetic value. They are quite different from other common ecotourism areas, because of its original and unique system, sensitive and vulnerable landscape, and peripheral cultural features. Therefore, the tourism development in the nature heritage sites should be on the premise of ecological security. The evaluation index system of tourism ecological security in nature heritage sites was constructed in this article by AHP and Delphi methods, including nature ecological security, landscape visual security and local culture ecological security, and the security thresholds of indices were also established. In the indices' weights of the evaluation model, the nature ecological security ranked the highest, followed by tourist landscape visual security and culture ecological security, which reflected the influence degree of the limited factor to tourism ecological security. Then, this paper carried out an empirical study of Kanas of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, which has the potential to be the World Nature Heritage. On the basis of the data attained from survey and observation on the spot, as well as questionnaire answered by tourists and local communities, the ecological security status in Kanas was evaluated. The result showed that the status of Kanas tourism ecological security was better, but there had some limiting factors. Lastly, effective measures were put forward to ensure its ecological security.

Discussion of Subjects on Guangdong＇s Foshan Paper-cutting

Guangdong＇ s Foshan paper-cutting art is significantly related with the local folk culture and religion, with unique craflwork as well as rich subjects. In the present paper, the characteristics of subjects was analyzed in detail based on the relationship between Foshan papercutting and local folk religion, folk activities and folk cultural activities. It is suggested that subjects of Foshan paper-cutting is strongly affected by the coast and regional culture as well as widely affected by the coastal culture especially foreign culture. Foshan paper-cutting is the typical example for studying folk custom life of Lingnan area because of the rich subjects.

The Value and Development Modes of Vernacular Aesthetic Education of Urban Agricultural Landscape

Aesthetic education not only exists in the classroom,but also in the urban living environment.The development of this environmental aesthetic education function is often accompanied by the development and change of urban landscape.Urban agricultural landscape is an organic part of modern urban landscape.It is different from machines or buildings in general urban production and life.Its local aesthetic value should be fully recognized and excavated.This is mainly reflected in the beauty of traditional agricultural skills,agricultural landscapes,and agricultural activities.At the same time,according to the different ways of interaction between people and the environment(ways of receiving aesthetic education),the development mode of vernacular aesthetic education of urban agricultural landscape can be divided into three:viewing mode,short-time contact,and long-time immersion.

Local seismic culture in Iranian vernacular architecture: evidence from Yazd earthen architecture

Iran,located in one of the most earthquake-prone regions of the world,has experienced a very large number of destructive earthquakes that brought about considerable loss of human life and economic consequences.The coun‑try possesses a vast number of monumental and vernacular built heritages that are constantly threatened by earth‑quakes.As vernacular techniques for dwellings comply with the needs,comfort,utility,and functionality of people,it is expected that endemic earthquake-resistant techniques make an essential contribution to Iranian vernacular archi‑tecture.The city of Yazd presents a unique and rich vernacular for earthen construction within Iranian architectural heritage,which has resulted in the recognition of the historic fabric of the city as a World Heritage Site since 2017.Considering the importance of exploring diferent local seismic cultures worldwide,this paper introduces an essential part of Iranian local seismic culture by recognising and classifying the vernacular earthquake-resistant techniques used in the earthen architecture of the city of Yazd.The techniques were collected by surveying the historic fabric,using data available in the literature,and interviewing traditional builders and local conservators.Next,the seismic infuence of each technique was evaluated using examples from the performance of adobe constructions during the 2003 Bam earthquake.

Collecting and Collection： Local Chinese Culture in Robert Morrison＇s Dictionary

Taking the personal experience of Robert Morrison into account, this paper focuses on the rapport between the author and his works. As the first Protestant missionary to China, Robert Morrison endeavored to learn the Chinese language and to collect local cultural information, so as to encyclopedically present his knowledge of Chinese through the language reference books he compiled. This paper examines the range of linguistic registers of the represented examples from Morrison＇s dictionaries, so as to discuss the way in which various registers are combined into the text and how they are related with different social arenas. Placing Morrison＇s works in a wider social and intellectual context, this paper also discusses issues of cultural exchange between China and early nineteenth-century Europe.

Envisioning Landscape Justice:Interdisciplinary Dialogue,Collaboration,and Exploration

As an extension of environmental justice,landscape justice emphasizes achieving inclusive and equitable planning and design in both built and natural environments,allowing different social groups to enjoy and share landscape resources and benefits more equally.By endowing landscape design with a“just”orientation,landscape justice significantly improves the spatial and environmental benefits while promotes the process of environmental justice.Landscape justice is characterized by its interdisciplinary nature,showing great variability in spatio-temporal scales,site dimensions and attributes,and social groups and scenarios,the research of which urgently requires in-depth dialogues,sincere collaborations,and active explorations among multiple disciplines.We call for enriching the connotation of landscape justice through interdisciplinary perspectives and addressing practical issues,to provide innovative spatial propositions and paths for creating sustainable urban environments and landscapes.

Between the Foreground and the Background Lies the Middle Ground:Painting a Harmonious Early Childhood Curriculum Landscape

Highlights This commentary centers on one of the insightful articles in this Special Issue:"Curriculum Hybridization and Cultural Glocalization:A Scoping Review of International Research on Early Childhood Curriculum in China and Singapore,"authored by Yang and Li(2022).The commented article provides insights and directions regarding early childhood curriculum policy and practice in China and Singapore.Aligning with Yang and Li's(2022)findings,this commentary further paints a new threecomponent framework(the foreground,the background,and the middle ground)for understanding and harmonizing the global-local dissonance in the early childhood curriculum landscape.Leveraging both hindsight and foresight,this commentary also provides insights for policy and practice to advance a harmonious early childhood curriculum landscape in China and Singapore as well as in other societies confronted with similar predicaments.
