This paper first introduced the silage fermentation technology, including the selection of strains and activation expansion technology, the screening of high-quality fermentation raw materials, and the comparative experiment of fermentation process. It discussed feeding methods for sows and growing-finishing pigs at different breeding stages. In addition,it analyzed the effects of fermented silage on the growth performance of local pigs at various stages. Finally,it is concluded that silage fermentation can improve the water retention performance of pork, improve the quality of pork from local pigs, increase economic benefits, and achieve the purpose of saving costs and increasing efficiency. 展开更多

The study aimed at evaluating the effect of supplementing Saccharomyces cerevisiae into low quality local-based feeds on performance and nutrient digestibility of late starter to grower stage local pigs. There were total 16 late starter local pigs fed with four treatment feeds based on block design with four pigs in each treatment. The four treatment feeds offered consisted of: commercial starter feeds Charoen Pokphand 552 (To), basal feeds + yeast 2% of daily feeds requirement (T0, basal feeds + yeast 4% of daily feeds requirement (T2) and basal feeds + yeast 6% of daily feeds requirement (T3). Feed intake, daily weight gain, feed conversion efficiency, protein and crude fiber digestibility were evaluated in the study. The findings showed that supplementing S. cerevisiae into low quality local-based diet improved 0.9%-2.7% feeds' crude protein, 10%-19% feeds intake, 1%-6% daily weight gain, 3%-4% crude protein digestibility and 4%-5% crude fiber digestibility, but reduced feeds conversion efficiency by 0.3-0.4. The conclusion drawn is that supplementing S. cerevisiae (yeast) up to 6% improved performances of starter local pigs fed low quality feeds and performed the similar result with feeding commercial starter feeds Charoen Pokphand 552. Further research by widening the range and increasing the level of yeast supplementation could be done. 展开更多

Tamarind seeds are one of the waste crops that were usually given to pigs and the use of spontaneous bioconversion can increase digestibility. The research objective was to evaluate nutrient digestibility spontaneous bioconversion of tamarind seeds at Timor Local Pig. The study was conducted from May to July 2017 in the Laboratory of Animal Production and Reproduction of Kupang State Agricultural Polytechnic. The study used local male pigs grower phase of 3-4 months old aged and used a randomized block design with four treatments and five replications, namely R0 = ration without bioconversion spontaneous tamarind seeds, R1 = rations containing 10% bioconversion spontaneous tamarind seeds, R2 = ration containing 20% bioconversion spontaneous tamarind seeds, R3 = ration containing 30% bioconversion spontaneous tamarind seeds. The variables measured were dry matter digestibility, crude protein, crude fiber, and tannins. The results showed that spontaneous bioconversion of tamarind seeds affected significantly (p 〈 0.01) on dry matter digestibility, crude protein, ether extract, ash, and tannin digestibility but no effect (p 〉 0.05) on crude fiber digestibility. It was concluded that the use of tamarind seeds spontaneous bioconversion in livestock rations of local pigs Timor should be as much as 20%. 展开更多

[Objective] The research aimed to provide the genetic basis for the protection, development and utilization of Guizhou local pig breeds. [Method] From 27 pairs of porcine microsatellite primers recommended by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and international Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG), six pairs (S0155, SW240, IGF1, SW951, SW857, SW24) were selected for microsatellite DNA detection of three Guizhou local pig breeds, including Nuogu Pig, Kele Pig and Guanling Pig. Subsequently, their genetic diversities were analyzed. [ Result] The three pig breeds were high polymorphic at the six microsatellite loci (PIC 〉0.5). The Nei's standard genetic distance of them was 0.206 3 -0.481 5. The genetic distance between Nuogu Pig and Kele Pig Was the closest, and that between Nuogu Pig and Guanling Pig was the furthest. [ Conclusion] The three Guizhou local pig breeds are in high genetic diversities. Nuogu Pig is a special type of Kele Pig, an excellent Chinese local pig breed. 展开更多

Objective:To characterize the semen of three genetic types of boars(local, improved and Large White)reared in Benin. Methods:Semen of local, improved and Large White boars reared in Benin were collected using the gloved hand method and analyzed to determine volume,pH,concentration, mobility, motility, and morphology. The effect of the genetic type of boar on semen characteristics was aslo studied. Results:Duration of ejaculation and semen volume of Large White boar were significantly higher than those of local and improved boars(P<0.05).The semen of improved boars had a higher motility score than that of Large White and local boars(P<0.001).The semen of local boars was more concentrated in the spermatozoa than that of improved and Large White boars(P<0.05).The proportion of spermatozoa of improved boars with normal morphology(93.6%)was significantly higher than that of local(82.2%)and Large White boars(81.6%)(P<0.001).The proportion of spermatozoa with folded tails in the semen of Large White boars(9.2%)was significantly higher than that observed in improved(1.8%)and local(5.0%)boars(P<0.001).The proportion of spermatozoa with proximal cytoplasmic droplets in semen of improved boars(2.7%)was significantly lower than that in Large White(6.8%)and local(9.7%)boars(P<0.001).The local(1.5%)and Large White boars(1.1%)showed more spermatozoa with distal cytoplasmic droplets in their semen compared to the improved boars(0.4%).Conclusions:The semen characteristics of pigs reared in Benin vary from one genetic type to another. Each genetic type has a strong point. The Large White boar produces larger semen, the local boar produces more concentrated semen and the improved boar produces spermatozoa that are morphologically better. The semen of these three genetic types can be used in artificial insemination but the improved boar's semen is more recommended. 展开更多
