However, difficulty arises when the algorithm is used for non-homogeneous dynamic systems, due to the inverse matrix calculation and the simulation accuracy of the applied loading. By combining the Gaussian quadrature method and state space theory with the calculation technique of matrix exponential function in the precise time step integration method, a new modified precise time step integration method (e.g., an algorithm with an arbitrary order of accuracy) is proposed. In the new method, no inverse matrix calculation or simulation of the applied loading is needed, and the computing efficiency is improved. The numerical stability of the proposed algorithm is discussed and a numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity and efficiency of the algorithm.展开更多

From a dialectical materialistic point of view the physical character of geographical environment of the earth surface is the unity in diversity. It is on such grounds that the two basic characteristics were put forth by the author in his monograph 'Physical Structure of South American Geographical Environment' as the underlying theme. By combining the principle of hierarchical decomposition into D&L method, a hierarchical decomposition model for multilevel SDA is obtained. Previous attempts to address this problem has been unsatisfactory because they can only reduce the strength decline rate. This study presents a new solution to this problem by incorporating fly ash to the traditional silica-cement systems. The influences of fly ash and silica on the strength retrogression behavior of oil well cement systems directly set and cured under the condition of 200°C and 50 MPa are investigated. Test results indicate that the slurries containing only silica or fly ash experience severe strength retrogression from 2 to 30 d curing, while the slurries containing both fly ash and silica experience strength enhancement from 2 to 90 d. The strength test results are corroborated by further evidences from permeability tests as well as microstructure analysis of set cement. Composition of set cement evaluated by quantitative X-ray diffraction analyses with partial or no known crystal structure(PONKCS) method and thermogravimetry analyses revealed that the conversion of amorphous C-(A)-S-H to crystalline phases is the primary cause of long-term strength retrogression. The addition of fly ash can reduce the initial amount of C-(A)-S-H in the set cement, and its combined use with silica can prevent the crystallization of C-(A)-S-H, which is believed to be the working mechanism of this new admixture in improving long-term strength stability of oil well cement systems.展开更多

Recently, an "integrative structural biology" approach has been proposed, which aims to determine the protein structure and characterize protein flexibility by combining complementary high- and lowresolution experimental data using computer simulations. Small-angle x-ray scattering(SAXS) is an efficient technique that can yield low-resolution structural information, including protein size and shape. Here, we review computational methods that integrate SAXS with other experimental datasets for structural modeling. Finally, we provide a case study of determination of the structure of a protein complex formed between the tandem SH3 domains in c-Cb1-associated protein and the proline-rich loop in human vinculin.展开更多

This has been done to determine the performance of existing bridges, refine techniques needed to evaluate different bridge components, and develop approaches that can be used to provide a continuous status of a bridge's structural integrity. This paper briefly introduces the background of these studies, with emphasis on recent research and the development of structural health monitoring concepts. This paper presents the results from three different bridge types: a post-tensioned curved concrete box girder bridge, a curved steel box-girder bridge, and a steel multi-girder bridge. The structural health monitoring approaches to be discussed have been successfully tested using field data collected during multi-year monitoring periods, and are based on vibrations, rotations and strains. The goal has been to develop cost-effective strategies to provide critical information needed to manage the State of Connecticut's bridge infrastructure.展开更多

The addition of fly ash can reduce the initial amount of C-(A)-S-H in the set cement, and its combined use with silica can prevent the crystallization of C-(A)-S-H, which is believed to be the working mechanism of this new admixture in improving long-term strength stability of oil well cement systems.
文摘The combination of structural health monitoring and vibration control is of great importance to provide components of smart structures. While synthetic algorithms have been proposed, adaptive control that is compatible with changing conditions still needs to be used, and time-varying systems are required to be simultaneously estimated with the application of adaptive control. In this research, the identification of structural time-varying dynamic characteristics and optimized simple adaptive control are integrated.First, reduced variations of physical parameters are estimated online using the multiple forgetting factor recursive least squares(MFRLS)method. Then, the energy from the structural vibration is simultaneously specified to optimize the control force with the identified parameters to be operational.Optimization is also performed based on the probability density function of the energy under the seismic excitation at any time. Finally, the optimal control force is obtained by the simple adaptive control(SAC)algorithm and energy coefficient.A numerical example and benchmark structure are employed to investigate the efficiency of the proposed approach. The simulation results revealed the effectiveness of the integrated online identification and optimal adaptive control in systems.
文摘Nowadays, the scope of bridge construction projects in China is becoming wider, which promotes China's economic development to a large extent and also improves China's transportation system.Meanwhile, people also put forward new requirements for the quality of steel structure bridges. However,in actual design, due to the influence of many fectors, some problems are inevitable, which will affect the integrity of the design. Therefore, the designer needs to fully grasp the possible design problems, and then take efiective measures to improve the integrity of the design scheme,so as to ensure the quality of the steel structure bridge and improves the safety of the steel structure bridge from the fundamentals. This paper mainly focuses on steel structure bridges, analyzed the current status of steel structure bridge types and their selection, and proposes the integrity design strategy of steel structure bridges.

文摘Many engineering applications need to analyse the system dynamics on the macro and micro level, which results in a larger computational effort. An explicit-implicit asynchronous step algorithm is introduced to solve the structural dynamics in multi-scale both the space domain and time domain. The discrete FEA model is partitioned into explicit and implicit parts using the nodal partition method.Multiple boundary node method is adopted to handle the interface coupled problem. In coupled region, the implicit Newmark coupled with an explicit predictor corrector Newmark whose predictive wave propagates into the implicit mesh.During the explicit subcycling process, the variables of boundary nodes are solved directly by dynamics equilibrium equation. The dissipation energy is dynamically determined in accordance with the energy balance checking.A cantilever beam and a building two numerical examples are proposed to verify that the method can greatly reduce the computing time while maintaining a high accuracy.

文摘Elucidating the structure of large biomolecules such as multi-domain proteins or protein complexes is challenging due to their high flexibility in solution. Finally, we provide a case study of determination of the structure of a protein complex formed between the tandem SH3 domains in c-Cb1-associated protein and the proline-rich loop in human vinculin.
文摘We present an eight component integrable Hamiltonian hierarchy, based on a reduced seventh order matrix spectral problem, with the aim of aiding the study and classification of multicomponent integrable models and their underlying mathematical structures. The zero-curvature formulation is the tool to construct a recursion operator from the spatial matrix problem. The second and third set of integrable equations present integrable nonlinear Schrödinger and modified Korteweg-de Vries type equations, respectively. The trace identity is used to construct Hamiltonian structures, and the first three Hamiltonian functionals so generated are computed.

文摘Aiming at the reliability analysis of small sample data or implicit structural function,a novel structural reliability analysis model based on support vector machine(SVM)and neural network direct integration method(DNN)is proposed.Firstly,SVM with good small sample learning ability is used to train small sample data, fit structural performance functions and establish regular integration regions.Secondly,DNN is approximated the integral function to achieve multiple integration in the integration region. Finally, structural reliability was obtained by DNN.Numerical examples are investigated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the present method, which provides a feasible way for the structural reliability analysis.

文摘In order to investigate the correlation between reactor performance and the microorganisms,an integrated A/O reactor was operated for 72 days to treat diluted livestock wastewater.Chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency increased from 79% to 94%,with total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiency from 37% to 50% (HRT 7.4 hr) when the influent COD and TN were ca.1500 mg/L and 95 mg/L,respectively,and the outlet COD concentration was less than 100 mg/L at the end.Microbial community was monitored during start-up period by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) based on 16S rRNA gene.DGGE profiles showed that microbial community had changed significantly during the start-up and these shifts were in accordance with the reactor performance.UPGMA clustering analysis showed that 14 anaerobic samples fell into five main groups and so did the aerobic ones, but the grouping patterns were different.Phylogenetic analysis indicated that microbial populations in the anaerobic compartment belonged to Firmicutes,Proteobacteria,Chloroflexi and Bacteroidetes, while Proteobacteria,Bacteroidetes,Firmicutes,Verrucomicrobiae and Nitrospira were present in the aerobic compartment. In the anaerobic compartment, more fermentative and acetogenic bacteria were detected during the start-up while denitrifying bacteria faded away. Two functional populations such as Nitrospira defluvii and Dechloromonas denitrificans were observed when nitrogen removal was high, indicating that simultaneous nitrification and denitrification occurred in the aerobic compartment.

文摘A joint effort between the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the University of Connecticut has been underway for more than 20 years to utilize various structural monitoring approaches to assess different bridges in Connecticut. The goal has been to develop cost-effective strategies to provide critical information needed to manage the State of Connecticut's bridge infrastructure.
