This paper discusses the significance and prospects of low altitude small satellite aerial vehicles to ensure smooth aerial-ground communications for next-generation broadband networks.To achieve the generic goals of ...This paper discusses the significance and prospects of low altitude small satellite aerial vehicles to ensure smooth aerial-ground communications for next-generation broadband networks.To achieve the generic goals of fifthgeneration and beyondwireless networks,the existing aerial network architecture needs to be revisited.The detailed architecture of low altitude aerial networks and the challenges in resource management have been illustrated in this paper.Moreover,we have studied the coordination between promising communication technologies and low altitude aerial networks to provide robust network coverage.We talk about the techniques that can ensure userfriendly control and monitoring of the low altitude aerial networks to bring forth wireless broadband connectivity to a new dimension.In the end,we highlight the future research directions of aerial-ground communications in terms of access technologies,machine learning,compressed sensing,and quantum communications.展开更多
Micro-Doppler feature extraction of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)is important for their identification and classification.Noise and the motion state of the UAV are the main factors that may affect feature extraction ...Micro-Doppler feature extraction of unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)is important for their identification and classification.Noise and the motion state of the UAV are the main factors that may affect feature extraction and estimation precision of the micro-motion parameters.The spectrum of UAV echoes is reconstructed to strengthen the micro-motion feature and reduce the influence of the noise on the condition of low signal to noise ratio(SNR).Then considering the rotor rate variance of UAV in the complex motion state,the cepstrum method is improved to extract the rotation rate of the UAV,and the blade length can be intensively estimated.The experiment results for the simulation data and measured data show that the reconstruction of the spectrum for the UAV echoes is helpful and the relative mean square root error of the rotating speed and blade length estimated by the proposed method can be improved.However,the computation complexity is higher and the heavier computation burden is required.展开更多
Altitude regulation is a fundamental problem in UAV(unmanned aerial vehicles) control to ensure hovering and autonomous navigation performance.However,data from altitude sensors may be unstable by interference.A digit...Altitude regulation is a fundamental problem in UAV(unmanned aerial vehicles) control to ensure hovering and autonomous navigation performance.However,data from altitude sensors may be unstable by interference.A digital-filter-based improved adaptive Kalman method is proposed to improve accuracy and reliability of the altitude measurement information.A unique sensor data fusion structure is designed to make different sensors switch automatically in different environment.Simulation and experimental results show that an improved Sage-Husa adaptive extended Kalman filter(SHAEKF) is adopted in altitude data fusion which means that altitude error is limited to 1.5m in high altitude and 1.2m near the ground.This method is proved feasible and effective through hovering flight test and three-dimensional track flight experiment.展开更多

Use of Earth remote sensing (ERS), permitting to obtain information from large areas with a sufficiently high resolution, can provide significant assistance in solving the mentioned problems. This paper discusses the possibility of using various means of remote sensing such as satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), also known as drones, for receiving information in different ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum. However, considering that GCP collection is sometimes a difficult, time-consuming and expensive task with high resolution (HR) data in remote and harsh environments, today unmanned aerial vehicle based remote sensing (UAVRS) is frequently used in geological disaster emergency monitoring and rescuing for its great advantage in collecting timely onsite images. In this paper, for evaluating the feasibility of the UAVRS in disaster emergency and high cut slope safety monitoring, the digital surface model (DSM) without GCPs based on Structure from Motion (SfM) is accessed, and results showed that the geometric accuracy of DSM was smaller than 1 percent, which prove the usefulness of DSM based on UAVRS in emergency. Comparing to normal disaster emergency, the method without GCPs can be more efficient and save the disaster emergency time by neglecting GCPs measurement.展开更多
