Methods: This study retrospectively analyzes the impact of failing to make a definitive diagnosis of metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung on the clinical surgical approach in four cases of intraoperative freezing. It also examines the reasons for this failure and reviews the relevant literature. Results: All 4 cases of intraoperative freezing were diagnosed as invasive adenocarcinoma, and none of them made a definitive diagnosis of metastatic adenocarcinoma. Conclusion: It is difficult to confirm the diagnosis of metastatic adenocarcinoma of the lung by intraoperative frozen section, and the combination of patient history, rapid immunohistochemistry, and histological morphology of intraoperative frozen section for its identification can guide the surgeon to adjust the surgical approach in time and provide evidence for the establishment of surgical protocols for reference.展开更多

To this end, we designed experiments to explore the changes of Tregs and the functional gene Forkhead box P3 (FoxP3) in the aging process and its relationship with lung tumors in humans and mice. Methods The percentage of CD4+CD25+CD127lowTregs and expression of FoxP3 mRNA were analyzed using flow cytometry (FCM) and real-time fluorescence-based quantitative polymerase chain reaction (FQ-PCR). Markers were analyzed in the peripheral blood (PB) of 65 elderly patients (age 〉-65 years) with primary non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), 20 younger patients (aged 〈55 years) with NSCLC, 30 elderly healthy individuals and 30 young healthy individuals. Furthermore, we set up the Lewis lung cancer model with C57BL/6 female mice. Thirty-six mice were divided into a young healthy group, a middle-aged healthy group, tumor group, and an elderly tumor group. The percentage an elderly healthy group, a young tumor group, a middle-aged of CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ Tregs and the expression level of FoxP3 mRNA in splenocytes were determined in the six groups. Results The percentage of peripheral CD4+CD25+CD127low Tregs and the expression of FoxP3 mRNA were significantly increased in elderly patients with NSCLC comparing with the other groups and in elderly healthy individuals compared with young healthy individuals. Further analysis showed that the percentage of CD4+CD25+CD127lowTregs and the expression of FoxP3 mRNA were closely associated with tumor node metastasis (TNM) staging in elderly patients with NSCLC. In the mouse model, the percentage of CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ Tregs and the expression of FoxP3 mRNA in splenocytes of the tumor groups were significantly higher than in the healthy groups, with the highest expression in the elderly tumor group. In the healthy groups, the elderly healthy mice had the highest percentage of Tregs and expression of FoxP3 mRNA. The elderly mice had larger and heavier tumors than did the young and middle aged mice. Conclusions The up-regulation of Tregs and the FoxP3 gene with aging may play an essential role in oncogenesis and development of lung tumors in an elderly population.展开更多

Unloaded GM-CSF DCs, PBS and DCs+SIINFEKEL were subcutaneously injected into the mice, which were divided as experimental group, negative control group and positive control group respectively. Monoclonal antibody was used to deplete NK or T cells separately. The immunity-inhibitory effects on the lung melanoma were observed and the corresponding effector cells were examined. It was found that in the experimental and positive groups, the regression was induced in metastatic nodules in the lungs of tumor-bearing mice, but abrogated by treatment with anti-asialo-GM1 but not anti-CD8. It was concluded that the unloaded DCs could suppress the lung melanoma metastases to some extent, which was mediated by NK cells, and could be used as a potent therapeutic agents for lung tumor.展开更多

During the surgery, giant tumors atthe superior pulmonary lobe, with a diameter of over 10 cm, wereseen in 13 cases, in which tumor invasion in the extra-pericardiacpulmonary artery was found in 5 cases. Hilar lymphadenectasiswith severe tumor adhesion to pulmonary blood vessel couldbe seen in 20 cases and partial tumorous invasion in thepericardium in 7. In most of the cases, adhesions existed aroundthe tumor, aorta, superior vena, and azygous vein. Invasion ofthe laryngeal and vagus nerves on the left side was found in 3cases. Of the 30 patients, simple PL was conducted in 12, andsleeve lobectomy combined with a pulmonary arterioplasty in18 cases. With a blockade of unilateral MPA, no intraoperativehemorrhea of pulmonary blood vessels occurred during surgery, when there was a clear surgical field of vision. Both PL andlymphadenectomy were smoothly completed in the 30 patients. The healthy pulmonary lobes with normal function were keptand total pneumonectomy was avoided. The time of blocking thepulmonary artery ranged from 10 to 30 min, and intraoperativeblood loss was from 200 to 300 ml. Postoperative complicatedacute pulmonary edema occurred in 5 patients and tachycardia in7 cases. Nevertheless, all patients recovered and left the hospitalafter treatment. No severe cardiopulmonary complications werefound in all patients of the group.CONCLUSION Blocking the unilateral MPA is effective todecrease the risk of intraoperative hemorrhea in the PL. It canshorten the time of surgery, improve the excision rate of lungcancer, and cut down on the rate of total pneumonectomy.展开更多

Methods: The carcinogenic effect of neonatal mice treated by DES was studied. The newborn mice were divided into DES, Urethan (U) and U + DES groups. U group was given in 500 mg/kg dose by ip at postnatal 14 day, DES group was administered by ip at the 1 d, 8 d, 15 d in the dose of 1/7, 2/7 and 4/7 LD50 of the day when they were injected respectively for DES (I), DES (M), DES (H) groups. Until 26 weeks, they were anatomized and checked the formation of tumors. The organ index, tumor incidence ratio and mean number of tumors were calculated. Results: Lung tumors were apparently induced in tested neonatal mice. The incidence of lung tumor of DES (L, M, H) groups were 16.7%, 22.4% and 43.1% respectively, the U + DES (L, M, H) groups were 70.4%, 90.9% and 70.8% respectively, and the U group was 53.1%. The mean numbers of lung tumors of U + DES (L, M) groups were higher than those of the DES (L, M) groups respectively (P 〈 0.05). Conclusion: The higher ratio of lung tumor incidence had been induced by DES and U joined action to neonatal mice, which may be a useful and economical method to establish a lung tumor model induced by DES.展开更多

Methods and Materials: A virtual lung patient’s four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) was generated in this study. To avoid the uncertainties from target delineation and imaging artifacts, a sphere with diameter of 3 cm representing a rigid mobile target (GTV) was inserted into the right side of the lung. The target motion is set in superior-inferior (SI) direction from ?5 mm to 5 mm. Four SFUD planning strategies were used based on: 1) Maximum-In-tensity-Projection Image (MIP-CT);2) CT_average with ITV overridden to muscle density (CTavg_muscle);3) CT_average with ITV overridden to tumor density (CTavg_tumor);4) CT_average without any override density (CTavg_only). Dose distributions were recalculated on each individual phase and accumulated together to assess the “actual” treatment. To estimate the impact of proton range uncertainties, +/?3.5% CT calibration curve was applied to the 4DCT phase images. Results: Comparing initial plan to the dose accumulation: MIP-CT based GTV D98 degraded 2.42 Gy (60.10 Gy vs 57.68 Gy). Heart D1 increased 6.19 Gy (1.88 Gy vs 8.07 Gy);CTavg_tumor based GTV D98 degraded 0.34 Gy (60.07 Gy vs 59.73 Gy). Heart D1 increased 2.24 Gy (3.74 Gy vs 5.98 Gy);CTavg_muscle based initial GTV D98 degraded 0.31 Gy (60.4 Gy vs 60.19 Gy). Heart D1 increased 3.44 Gy (4.38 Gy vs 7.82 Gy);CTavg_only based Initial GTV D98 degraded 6.63 Gy (60.11 Gy vs 53.48 Gy). Heart D1 increased 0.30 Gy (2.69 Gy vs 2.96 Gy);in the presence of ±3.5% range uncertainties, CTavg_tumor based plan’s accumulated GTV D98 degraded to 57.99 Gy (+3.5%) 59.38 Gy (?3.5%), and CTavg_muscle based plan’s accumulated GTV D98 degraded to 59.37 Gy (+3.5%) 59.37 Gy (?3.5%). Conclusion: This study shows that CTavg_Tumor and CTavg_Muscle based planning strategies provide the most robust GTV coverage. However, clinicians need to be aware that the actual dose to OARs at distal end of target may increase. The study also indicates that the current SFUD PBS planning strategy might not be sufficient to compensate the CT calibration uncertainty.展开更多

Methods: The recombinant plasmid pCI-TSLC1 was stably transfected into MG63 cells with Lipofectamine 2000. The posi- tive clones were developed by selection by G418. Biological characteristics of one of the 6 cell lines which highly expressing TSLC1, namely, the M8T were studied. Cell growth was analyzed with MTT assay. 2 x 10^7cells suspended in 0.2 mL phosphate buffered saline (PBS) were injected into the two flanks of 5-6-week-old female BALB/C nu/nu athymic nude mice. The volumes of subcutaneous of tumor growth were evaluated and calculated by the formula V= Length x Width x Height x 0.5 once a week. Results: The MST cell subline which stably expressing TSLC1 was characterized by Western blot. The genetic stability and purity of M8T cells were stable. TSLC1 significantly suppressed the growth of M8T cells in vitro. Moreover, the tumorigenicity of MST cells was suppressed in vivo. Conclusion: The osteosarcoma cell sublines MST which stably expressing TSLC1 had been successfully established. The ability of growth and metastasis of MST was significantly suppressed both in vitro and in vivo.展开更多

Methods: Forty-?ve cases of lung squamous cell cancer and 59 cases of lung glandular cancer have gone through pathological con?rmation and all the 104 cases have been put under enhanced scanning on the basis of ?at scanning. The shape and density of the metastatic tumors, encephaledema around the tumors, and the reinforcement change after the enhancement were analyzed. Results: The CT scanning images of all the cases showed that, under ?at scanning, the density of the metastatic tumors to the brain of lung squamous cell cancer was over the slightly-high level and by no means even. Again, under ?at scanning, some 10 cases of metastatic tumors to the brain of lung glandular cancer showed a slightly-high density and some 49 other cases a low density and sack-like low density. Forty-?ve cases of metastatic tumors to the brain of lung squamous cell cancer were with hydroncus while some 30 cases of that of lung glandular cancer were in the same condition. Most of the two types of metastatic tumors, amounting to 97 cases, took place in supratentorial manner, and only 7 cases took place in subtentorial manner. Conclusion: The CT images of metastatic tumors to the brain of lung squamous cell cancer and lung glandular cancer are obviously di?erent from each other. As for the lung squamous cell cancer, the ?at scanning density of the tumor is over the slightly-high level with unevenness. There is relatively obvious reinforcement and obvious hydroncus. As for the lung glandular cancer, the metastatic tumor to the brain shows a low density and sack-like low density under ?at scanning. There is no obvious reinforcement and relatively slight hydroncus.展开更多

It appears as a histopathologic benign smooth muscle tumors, distant from the uterus. It is hormone dependent and progresses slowly. Operation is the main clinical treatment. The article was reported one case who was a thirty-eight years old female. She was found to have bilateral lung nodules after hysterectomy of uterine leiomyoma seven years ago. An open lung biopsy revealed that the nodules consist of proliferating smooth muscle cells with a histopathologic feature which was similar to her uterus leiomyoma. Positive staining of estrogen and progesterone receptors were detected, which proved the turner originate from utedne. The patient did not accept operation, chemotherapy, radiotherapy or other treatment. We still follow up the development of the case.展开更多

文摘Background Immunosuppressive regulatory T cells (Tregs) participate in tumor immune evasion and the number and suppressive function of Tregs change with the aging process, but it is not clear whether such change leads to a higher incidence of tumors in the elderly. Conclusions The up-regulation of Tregs and the FoxP3 gene with aging may play an essential role in oncogenesis and development of lung tumors in an elderly population.
文摘A significant advantage of medical image processing is that it allows non-invasive exploration of internal anatomy in great detail. It is possible to create and study 3D models of anatomical structures to improve treatment outcomes, develop more effective medical devices,or arrive at a more accurate diagnosis. This paper aims to present a fused evolutionary algorithm that takes advantage of both whale optimization and bacterial foraging optimization to optimize feature extraction. The classification process was conducted with the aid of a convolu-tional neural network(CNN)with dual graphs.Evaluation of the performance of the fused model is carried out with various methods. In the initial input Com-puter Tomography(CT)image,150 images are pre-processed and segmented to identify cancerous and non-cancerous nodules. The geometrical,statistical,struc-tural,and texture features are extracted from the preprocessed segmented image using various methods such as Gray-level co-occurrence matrix(GLCM),Histo-gram-oriented gradient features(HOG),and Gray-level dependence matrix(GLDM).To select the optimal features,a novel fusion approach known as Whale-Bacterial Foraging Optimization is proposed. For the classification of lung cancer, dual graph convolutional neural networks have been employed.A com-parison of classification algorithms and optimization algorithms has been con-ducted.According to the evaluated results, the proposed fused algorithm is successful with an accuracy of 98.72%in predicting lung tumors, and it outper-forms other conventional approaches.
文摘In a previous study by the authors, positive results from both a case-control study and a cohort study were reported. In the present study a short-term test for the induction of mouse lung tumor by chloroprene was conducted to confirm whether chloroprene monomer itself can induce tumors.Kunming albino mice weaned at 2 weeks were subjected to inhaling 0,2.9±0.3, 19.2±1.9,and 189.0±13.3 mg/m^3 chloroprene(GC purity,99.8%)4 h daily(except Sunday) for 7 months. All survivors were killed at the end of the 8th month or when moribund. No lung tumors were found before the 6th month. Thus, survivors at the 6th month were counted as effective animals. Most lung tumors observed were papilloadenomas(50/57),and a few were adenomas(7/57).The tumor incidence in the 2.9 mg/m^3 group was 8.1% in comparison to 1.3% in the control group, with the significance level at P<0.05.The higher the concentration, the higher the incidence.Examination of the multiplicity of tumor induction also demonstrated a dose-response relationship, and the number of tumors per mouse in the 189 mg/m^3 group was significant at P<0.01.1989 Academic Press,Inc.

文摘The unstructured growth of abnormal cells in the lung tissue creates tumor. The early detection of lung tumor helps the patients avoiding the death rate and gives better treatment.Various medical image modalities can help the physicians in the diagnosis of disease. Many research works have been proposed for the early detection of lung tumor.High computation time and misidentification of tumor are the prevailing issues. In order to overcome these issues, this paper has proposed a hybrid classifier of Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling(ASPP)-Unet architecture withWhale Optimization Algorithm(ASPP-Unet-WOA).To get a fine tuning detection of tumor in the Computed Tomography(CT)of lung image, this model needs pre-processing using Gabor filter.Secondly, feature segmentation is done using Guaranteed Convergence Particle Swarm Optimization.Thirdly, feature selection is done using Binary Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm. This proposed(ASPPUnet-WOA)is implemented in the dataset of National Cancer Institute(NCI)Lung Cancer Database Consortium.Various performance metric measures are evaluated and compared to the existing classifiers. The accuracy of Deep Convolutional Neural Network(DCNN)is 93.45%,Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)is 91.67%,UNet obtains 95.75%and ASPP-UNet-WOA obtains 98.68%.compared to the other techniques.
文摘In order to investigate the immunity of unloaded dendritic cells (DCs) derived from murine bone marrow to preexisting lung melanoma metastases of mice, MO5 were intravenously injected to induce lung metastases in syngeneic C57BI-/6 mice. It was concluded that the unloaded DCs could suppress the lung melanoma metastases to some extent, which was mediated by NK cells, and could be used as a potent therapeutic agents for lung tumor.
文摘A 43-year-old female with a 3-month history of paroxysmal irritating cough presented progressive chest tightness and shortness of breath.Laboratory data showed elevated carcino-embryonic antigen(CEA).Further imaging studies revealed a soft tissue mass shadow was in right middle lobe lung with mediastinal and sub-carinal lymph nodes enlarged.Biopsy diagnosis:moderately and poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the lung.Clinical diagnosis:central non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) of right middle lobe(CIVT4N2M1),lung adenocarcinoma G2-3,malignant pleural effusion, pericardial effusion, hilar and mediastina lymph node metastases. After 4 cycles of endostar plus GC therapy, imaging studies revealed showed soft tissue mass in right middle lobe disappeared, and evaluation of short-term result was complete remission(CR).PFS has been seven months till now. Therefore, this report provided strong evidence that endostatin combined GC treatment for advanced NSCLC is safe and effective, which can prolong survival and improve quality of life.
文摘OBJECTIVE To explore the application of blocking the unilateralmain pulmonary artery (MPA) in pulmonary lobectomy (PL) forpatients with stage Ⅱ and Ⅲ lung cancer, and to retrospectivelyanalyze the methods of surgery for blocking the unilateral mainpulmonary artery, perioperative indications, intraoperativeconcerns and postoperative cardio-pulmonary complications.METHODS During a period from January 2006 to January 2008,intra-pericardial, or extra-pericardial separation and blockade ofthe left or right MPA followed by completion of various PLs wereconducted for 30 lung cancer patients in stage-Ⅱ to Ⅲ with ill-defined anatomic structure of the pulmonary hilum and difficultpulmonary angiodiastasis.RESULTS In the 30 patients, 5 were diagnosed as stage-Ⅱb, 11stage-Ⅲa, and 14 stage-Ⅲb. It canshorten the time of surgery, improve the excision rate of lungcancer, and cut down on the rate of total pneumonectomy.
文摘Objective: To explore a economical and effective method for building lung tumor model induced by diethylstibestrol (DES). Conclusion: The higher ratio of lung tumor incidence had been induced by DES and U joined action to neonatal mice, which may be a useful and economical method to establish a lung tumor model induced by DES.

Results: Compared with conventional group, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage flow, postoperative pain, recovery time of postoperative upper limb function in improved group was improved significantly, and there was no obvious difference in operation time and number of lymph node dissected between both groups. Conclusion: Small incision in radical operation for lung and esophageal cancer is small trauma, and quick recovery after operation, treatment effects of it is basically similar to that of conventional operation method, however, its application is limited in few cases.
文摘Five cues of primary chondrosarcoma, a rare tumor of the lung, are reported. The diagnosis should be made by pathology. The diagnosis can not be made in some conditions including: (1) tumor from the chest wall; (2) chondroaarcoma of bone discovered after operation; (3) ovarian teratoma found prior to operation; (4) patient with history of hamartoma of the lung; and (5) atypical pathology. It has no close relation tetween pathologic subtyping and prognosis of the disease. The main cause of death was intralobar spread of the lung. Extrathoracic metastasis was no observed and surgical resection is the primary option of therapeutic management for this tumor.
文摘Following concurrent radio-chemotherapy or first-line chemotherapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), continuous maintenance therapy given to patients with stable disease (SD) and follow-up treatment is called consolidation therapy. Concerning NSCLC patients with a non-operable dry Stage-IIIB (N3) disease, i.e. contra-lateral mediastinal and hilar lymph node, or homolateral/contra-lateral scalene and Troisier sign, a 2 or 3-course of standard-dosage Taxotere consolidation therapy can be performed after concurrent radio-chemotherapy. In pursuance of evidence-based medicine (EBM), low-dose Taxotere maintenance therapy, and biological targeted therapy of patients with appropriate symptoms are suitable for second-line therapy for moist of the Stage-ⅢB (malignant pleural effusion) and Ⅳ patients.
文摘Purpose: To quantitatively evaluate four different Proton SFUD PBS initial planning strategies for lung mobile tumor. The study also indicates that the current SFUD PBS planning strategy might not be sufficient to compensate the CT calibration uncertainty.

文摘Objective: The aim of this study was to establish the osteosarcoma cell sublines which stably expressing tumor suppressor in lung cancer-1 (TSLC1) gene and evaluate its effect on growth inhibition of human osteosarcoma cell line MG63. The ability of growth and metastasis of MST was significantly suppressed both in vitro and in vivo.
文摘Neoplasms can be considered as a group of aberrant cells that need more vascular supply to fulfill all their functions. Therefore, they promote angiogenesis through the same neovascularization pathway used physiologically.Angiogenesis is a process characterized by a heterogeneous distribution of oxygen caused by the tumor and oxidative stress;the latter being one of the most powerful stimuli of angiogenesis. As a result of altered tumor metabolism due to hypoxia, acidosis occurs. The angiogenic process and oxidative stress can be detected by measuring serum and tissue biomarkers. The study of the mechanisms underlying angiogenesis and oxidative stress could lead to the identification of new biomarkers, ameliorating the selection of patients with neoplasms and the prediction of their response to possible anti-tumor therapies. In particular,in the treatment of patients with similar clinical tumor phenotypes but different prognoses, the new biomarkers could be useful. Moreover, they may lead to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying drug resistance.Experimental studies show that blocking the vascular supply results in antiproliferative activity in vivo in neuroendocrine tumor cells, which require a high vascular supply.
文摘To study the effect of IL-18 and nitric oxide(NO) on the growth and metastasis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Methods Serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite levels in 82 patients with NSCLC and 20 healthy control subjects were measured by using ELISA and Griess. Results The levels of serum IL-18 were (334.2±31.0)ng/L in NSCLC patients and (151.3±22.0)ng/L in control subjects, respectively. The levels of nitrate and nitrite were (237.1±21.0)μmol/L in NSCLC patients and (44.2±15.0)μmol/L in control subjects. The levels of serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite were not related with age, gender, histological types in patients with NSCLC.The levels of serum IL-18 was closely associated with TNM stage, lymph node metastasis and distal metastasis, but not with its degree and organ types of metastasis. There was a negative correlation between the levels of serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite. Conclusion Serum IL-18 and nitrate and nitrite levels may be useful to evaluate the prognosis of the patients with NSCLC.16 refs,2 tabs.
文摘Objective: To explore the di?erence of CT images of metastatic tumors to the brain of lung squamous cell cancer and lung glandular cancer. There is no obvious reinforcement and relatively slight hydroncus.
文摘Benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) is a rare entity usually occuring in females with history of uterus leiomyoma. We still follow up the development of the case.
