The evolution of the Internet has enabled us to enjoy the music created in various countries.But still,it is often difficult to understand the lyrics written in foreign languages.Professional translators have publishe...The evolution of the Internet has enabled us to enjoy the music created in various countries.But still,it is often difficult to understand the lyrics written in foreign languages.Professional translators have published many international songs with lyrics that fit the melody so that the ordinary people can enjoy the lyrics of such international songs.This paper discusses lyrics transcreation into the Japanese language.Also,the paper presents an interactive visual lyrics transcreation system and describes the details of its implementation.This system allows users to select temporary lyrics from a set of tentative translations and then freely modify the lyrics with a real-time visualization mechanism.We also propose a lyrics translation algorithm that solves an essential problem of lyrics translation into Japanese.In this study,we interviewed two experts regarding problems with lyrics translation and received reviews of our presented system.We also conducted preliminary experiments with 19 participants to determine the best combination of user interface components for our system.We performed additional user experiments inviting 12 participants to compare lyrics transcreation using the presented system to manual lyrics transcreation.Lyrics transcreation by the presented system brought better results against those of manual transcreation.展开更多

Furthermore, it puts forward principles which lay emphasis on the balancing of three yardsticks-rhyming(optional), comprehensibility and loyalty. The first one can add elegance for lyrics translation. The last two requires mediation of intentions among the source writer and the target listener in a particular translational action. The principles are then applied to the evaluation of lyrics translation of two English songs of Viva La Vida and Set Love Free. In this thesis, his love lyrics are analyzedfrom cognitive stylistics perspective and this analysis is based on the figure-ground theory. According to Talmy's classification of lan-guage events, Cummings' s love lyrics are divided into space events and time events. Then figure and ground in different poems are de-termined on the basis of features and principles of figure and ground in two kinds of events. The analysis makes it possible for readers tobuild an interest in Cummings' s love lyrics and identify the hidden emotions and contents. What's more, connotation as well as aesthet-ic values of poems can also be explored. Theory in the cognitive stylistics is applied to the appreciation of poems in this paper, whichmay help readers imagine the scene and better understand the connotation. A sermon is a talk or advice given by clergy in religious discourse.This sermonizing function,however,seems to have ceased to be an exclusive preserve of the clerics.This paper investigates this pragmatic act of sermo...A sermon is a talk or advice given by clergy in religious discourse.This sermonizing function,however,seems to have ceased to be an exclusive preserve of the clerics.This paper investigates this pragmatic act of sermonizing in thirty-one (31) selected lyrics of Sikiru Ayinde Barrister (SAB) of the Fuji fame in Nigeria’s music industry,using Jacob Mey’s (2001) Pragmatic Act theory and Kecskes’ (2010) Socio-Cognitive Approach.A surprising depth of sermonizing in various categories,including social,economic and political sermonizing acts were found paramount in his lyrics.The socio-economic sermonizing act relates to family matters,managing marital conflict,child training and upbringing,value of hard work and dedication to duty,family planning,and such other personal values as showing gratitude for being alive and well,honesty,patience,peacemaking,respect for all,leading a responsible life,helping people,resisting doing evil,wishing others well and cooperating in doing good,the ultimate good judgement of God,being prayerful,inevitability of death,destiny,etc.The political sermonizing act calls for unity,peace,progress,political will,creating an enabling environment by the government,protecting democratic norms and the rule of law,and the need to look inward for an all-round national development.This paper concludes that SAB,beyond being an entertainer,is also a master sermonizer,as his sermonizing acts are deep,comprehensive,and revolve around building not only a complete,prosperous human figure but also a prosperous and peaceful nation.The lyrics,which qualify him as a Music Prophet,have something timeless,fresh and refreshing for all categories of people,particularly Nigerians.The limitation to his lyrics is that they are originally produced in Yoruba language;the import of the sermonizing act,however,is universal.展开更多
