In order to elucidate the influence of precipitation on the microscopic deformation mechanisms and macroscopic mechanical response of magnesium alloys under cyclic loading conditions, we employed a crystal plasticity model to analyze the stress-strain curves, specific crystal plane diffraction intensities, and the temporal evolution of various microscopic deformation mechanisms and twinning volume fractions for an extruded magnesium alloy, AXM10304, containing coherent precipitates. The research findings indicate that precipitation does not fundamentally alter the microscopic mechanisms of this alloy. However, it hinders twinning during the compression stage, mildly promotes detwinning during the tension stage, and enhances tension secondary hardening by elevating the difficulty of activation of the prismatic slip.展开更多

文摘This paper provided an effective method to further improve the mechanical properties of the AZ80+0.4%Ce magnesium alloy wheel spoke. The effect of high strength and ductility was obtained with a yield strength of 295.36 MPa,an elongation of 10%,by the combination of pre-deformation(7%deformation)and two-stage aging treatment(120℃/9 h+175℃/24 h).The evolution of the microstructure and properties of the alloy was explored under the coupling conditions of different pre-deformation degrees and multi-stage aging. The results show that,pre-deformation introduced a large number of(1012)tensile twinning and dislocations, which greatly promoted the probability of continuous precipitates(CPs)appearing. On the contrary, the discontinuous precipitates(DPs)were limited by the vertical and horizontal twin structure. As a result, the pre-nucleation method of two-stage aging increased the proportion of CPs by 34%-38%.Owing to the DPs was effectively suppressed, the alloy's yield strength has been greatly improved.Besides, under multi-stage aging, the twin boundaries induce protruding nucleation to form static recrystallization by hindering the migration of dislocations, and the matrix swallows the twins, then the texture gradually tilts from the two poles to the basal plane. As an important supplement, the grain refinement and oblique texture promoted the improvement of the yield strength of the component.

文摘Oscillating laser-arc hybrid welding of AZ31B magnesium alloy was carried out,the effects of beam oscillation parameters on pore inhibition, microstructure, grain boundary characteristics and tensile properties were investigated. The results showed that the pore formation can be inhibited with oscillating frequency higher than 75 Hz and radius smaller than 0.5 mm.The columnar grains neighboring the fusion line can be broken by the beam oscillation behavior, while the grain growth was promoted with the increase of frequency or radius. It should be noted that the coincidence site lattice(CSL)boundaries were mainlyΣ13b andΣ29 boundaries, which were contributed by{10■2}tensile twins and{11■2}compression twins, respectively. The total fraction of CSL boundaries reached maximum at radius of 0.25 mm and frequency of 75 Hz,which was also confirmed as the optimized parameters. In this case, the elongation rate increased up to 13.2%,12.8%higher than that of the weld without beam oscillation. Finally, the pore formation and inhibition mechanisms were illustrated according to the state of melt flow and keyhole formation, the abnormal growth was discussed basing on secondary recrystallization, and the relationship among the pore formation, grain size, boundary characteristics and weld toughness were finally established.

文摘Laser-arc hybrid welding of AZ31B magnesium alloy was carried out,the effects of welding parameters on weld formation, microstructure homogeneity and mechanical properties were investigated. The results showed that laser-arc hybrid welding was beneficial to improve the weld formation of magnesium alloy by inhibiting the defect of undercut and pores. The weld microstructure was mainly columnar grains neighboring the fusion line and equiaxed grains at the weld center. It was interesting that the grain size at the upper arc zone was smaller than that at the lower laser zone, with the difference mainly affected by laser power rather than welding current and welding speed. The welding parameters were optimized as laser power of 3.5 kW,welding current of 100 A and welding speed of 1.5 m/min.In this case, the weld was free of undercut and pores, and the tensile strength and elongation rate reached 252 MPa and 11.2%,respectively.Finally,the microstructure homogeneity was illustrated according to the heat distribution, and the evolution law of tensile properties was discussed basing on the weld formation and microstructure characteristics.

文摘Low-alloyed magnesium(Mg)alloys have emerged as one of the most promising candidates for lightweight materials. However, their further application potential has been hampered by limitations such as low strength, poor plasticity at room temperature, and unsatisfactory formability. To address these challenges, grain refinement and grain structure control have been identified as crucial factors to achieving high performance in low-alloyed Mg alloys. An effective way for regulating grain structure is through grain boundary(GB)segregation. This review presents a comprehensive summary of the distribution criteria of segregated atoms and the effects of solute segregation on grain size and growth in Mg alloys. The analysis encompasses both single element segregation and multi-element co-segregation behavior, considering coherent interfaces and incoherent interfaces.Furthermore,we introduce the high mechanical performance low-alloyed wrought Mg alloys that utilize GB segregation and analyze the potential impact mechanisms through which GB segregation influences materials properties.Drawing upon these studies,we propose strategies for the design of high mechanical performance Mg alloys with desirable properties, including high strength, excellent ductility, and good formability, achieved through the implementation of GB segregation. The findings of this review contribute to advancing the understanding of grain boundary engineering in Mg alloys and provide valuable insights for future alloy design and optimization.

文摘The aim of this work is to predict, for the first time, the high temperature flow stress dependency with the grain size and the underlaid deformation mechanism using two machine learning models, random forest(RF)and artificial neural network(ANN).With that purpose,a ZK30 magnesium alloy was friction stir processed(FSP)using three different severe conditions to obtain fine grain microstructures(with average grain sizes between 2 and 3μm)prone to extensive superplastic response. The three friction stir processed samples clearly deformed by grain boundary sliding(GBS)deformation mechanism at high temperatures. The maximum elongations to failure, well over 400% at high strain rate of 10^(-2)s^(-1),were reached at 400℃ in the material with coarsest grain size of 2.8μm,and at 300℃ for the finest grain size of 2μm.Nevertheless,the superplastic response decreased at 350℃ and 400℃ due to thermal instabilities and grain coarsening, which makes it difficult to assess the operative deformation mechanism at such temperatures. This work highlights that the machine learning models considered, especially the ANN model with higher accuracy in predicting flow stress values, allow determining adequately the superplastic creep behavior including other possible grain size scenarios.

文摘Magnesium alloy is one of the lightest metal structural materials. The weight is further reduced through the hollow structure. However, the hollow structure is easily damaged during processing. In order to maintain the hollow structure and to transfer the stresses during the high temperature deformation, the sand mandrel is proposed. In this paper, the hollow AZ31 magnesium alloy three-channel joint is studied by hot extrusion forming.Sand as one of solid granule medium is used to fill the hollow magnesium alloy. The extrusion temperatures are 230℃ and 300℃,respectively.The process parameters(die angle, temperature, bottom thickness, sidewall thickness,edge-to-middle ratio in bottom, bottom shape)of the hollow magnesium alloy are analyzed based on the results of experiments and the finite element method. The results are shown that the formability of the hollow magnesium alloy will be much better when the ratio of sidewall thickness to the bottom thickness is 1:1.5.Also when edge-to-middle ratio in bottom is about 1:1.5,a better forming product can be received. The best bottom shape in these experiments will be convex based on the forming results. The grain will be refined obviously after the extrusion. Also the microstructures will be shown as streamlines. And these lines will be well agreement with the mold in the corner.
文摘Precipitation strengthening is a crucial microscopic mechanism for enhancing the strength of magnesium alloys. However, it hinders twinning during the compression stage, mildly promotes detwinning during the tension stage, and enhances tension secondary hardening by elevating the difficulty of activation of the prismatic slip.

文摘Laser powder bed fusion(L-PBF)of Mg alloys has provided tremendous opportunities for customized production of aeronautical and medical parts.Layer thickness(LT)is of great significance to the L-PBF process but has not been studied for Mg alloys. In this study,WE43 Mg alloy bulk cubes, porous scaffolds, and thin walls with layer thicknesses of 10,20,30,and 40μm were fabricated. The required laser energy input increased with increasing layer thickness and was different for the bulk cubes and porous scaffolds.Porosity tended to occur at the connection joints in porous scaffolds for LT40 and could be eliminated by reducing the laser energy input. For thin wall parts,a large overhang angle or a small wall thickness resulted in porosity when a large layer thicknesses was used, and the porosity disappeared by reducing the layer thickness or laser energy input.A deeper keyhole penetration was found in all occasions with porosity, explaining the influence of layer thickness, geometrical structure, and laser energy input on the porosity. All the samples achieved a high fusion quality with a relative density of over 99.5%using the optimized laser energy input. The increased layer thickness resulted to more precipitation phases, finer grain sizes and decreased grain texture. With the similar high fusion quality, the tensile strength and elongation of bulk samples were significantly improved from 257 MPa and 1.41%with the 10μm layer to 287 MPa and 15.12%with the 40μm layer,in accordance with the microstructural change. The effect of layer thickness on the compressive properties of porous scaffolds was limited. However, the corrosion rate of bulk samples accelerated with increasing the layer thickness, mainly attributed to the increased number of precipitation phases.

文摘Mg-6Zn-2X(Fe/Cu/Ni)alloys were prepared through semi-continuous casting, with the aim of identifying a degradable magnesium(Mg)alloy suitable for use in fracturing balls.A comparative analysis was conducted to assess the impacts of adding Cu and Ni,which result in finer grains and the formation of galvanic corrosion sites.Scanner electronic microscopy examination revealed that precipitated phases concentrated at grain boundaries, forming a semi-continuous network structure that facilitated corrosion penetration in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloys.Pitting corrosion was observed in Mg-6Zn-2Fe,while galvanic corrosion was identified as the primary mechanism in Mg-6Zn-2Cu and Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloys.Among the tests, the Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy exhibited the highest corrosion rate(approximately 932.9 mm/a)due to its significant potential difference.Mechanical testing showed that Mg-6Zn-2Ni alloy possessed suitable ultimate compressive strength, making it a potential candidate material for degradable fracturing balls, effectively addressing the challenges of balancing strength and degradation rate in fracturing applications.

文摘In this study,we successfully developed a low RE containing Mg-3Y-2Gd-1Nd-0.5Zr(wt%)alloy with high strength-ductility synergy by combined processes of hot extrusion, hot rolling and ageing. This alloy exhibits an excellent strength-ductility balance(UTS of 345±2.0 MPa,TYS of 301±5.0 MPa and EL of 9.2±1.9%),which is better than that of many Mg-RE wrought alloys with higher RE concentration and even comparable to that of 6061 Al wrought alloy.A long-range chain-like structure consisting ofβphase,βH phase,βM phase and zig-zag atomic columns is observed for the first time in the studied alloy. The combined process of hot extrusion and hot rolling boosts the formation of deformed grains and low angle grain boundaries, and makes the deformed grains dominate in the alloy strengthening.Under this circumstance, the following ageing generates a novel heterogeneous structure comprising the long-range chain-like structure with broad interparticle spacing and the spacious precipitate-free zones in the deformed grains, which plays a key role in the concurrent strengthening and toughening of the alloy. The present study demonstrates that the deformed grains with long-range chain-like structures and precipitate-free zones is desirable microstructure for the low RE containing Mg alloys to achieve high strength-ductility synergy.

文摘Magnesium and magnesium alloy foils have great potential for application in battery anodes, electromagnetic shielding, optics and acoustics, and biology because of their excellent specific damping, internal dissipation coefficients, magnetic and electrical conductivities,as well as high theoretical specific capacity. However, magnesium alloys exhibit poor deformation ability due to their hexagonal close-packed crystal structure.Preparing magnesium and magnesium alloy foils with thicknesses of less than 0.1 mm is difficult because of surface oxidation and grain growth at high temperatures or severe anisotropy after cold rolling that leads to cracks.Numerous methods have been applied to prepare magnesium alloy foils. They include warm rolling, cold rolling, accumulative roll bonding, electric plastic rolling, and on-line heating rolling.Defects of magnesium and magnesium alloy foils during preparation, such as edge cracks and breakage, are important factors for consideration.Herein, the current status of the research on magnesium and magnesium alloy foils is summarized from the aspects of foil preparation, defect control, performance characterization, and application prospects. The advantages and disadvantages of different preparation methods and defect(edge cracks and breakage)mechanisms in the preparation of foils are identified.
