The studied material was the commercial AZ91 magnesium alloy. The effectiveness of the alternations caused by the remelting process was verified on the basis of microscopic observation and corrosion investigations, i e, recording of potentiodynamic polarization curves, electrochemical noise measurements and hydrogen evolution rate measurements. For the adopted range of the treatment parameters, favourable changes were observed in the surface layer such as the refinement of structure and more uniform arrangement of individual phases. As a consequence of those favourable structural changes the improvement of the corrosion resistance of the alloy was achieved in comparison to its non-remelted equivalent. For the treated material corrosion rates expressed as corrosion current densities were at least three times lower than the appropriate values for the untreated alloy comparing them for the same period of samples immersion in the test solution. The obtained results have confirmed the effectiveness of the applied surface treatment resulting in favourable changes in the structure and corrosion properties of the AZ91 magnesium alloy.展开更多

The cast alloys were characterized by X-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The corrosion behavior of the as-cast Mg-8Li-3Al+xCe alloys were studied under salt spray tests in 3.5wt% NaC l solution at 35°C, in accordance with standard ASTM B-117, in conjunction with potentiodynamic polarization(PDP) tests. The results show that the addition of Ce to Mg-8Li-3Al(LA83) alloy results in the formation of Al_2Ce intermetallic phase, refines both the α-Mg phase and the Mg_(17)Al_(12) intermetallic phase, and then increases the microhardness of the alloys. The results of PDP and salt spray tests reveal that an increase in Ce content to 1.5wt% decreases the corrosion rate. The best corrosion resistance is observed for the LA83 alloy sample with 1.0wt% Ce.展开更多

After extrusion, the grain size of the as-cast alloy is obviously refined and reaches to 75 lm; the strength and elongation of the extruded alloy are enhanced by 17.20 % and49.45 %, respectively, owing to their fine microstructure and reduction of casting defects. The as-extruded alloy shows better corrosion resistance compared to the as-cast one, which may be related to the low stored energy and dislocation density in the extruded alloy, also the homogenization treatment before extrusion.展开更多

In the control group, HP Mg screws of the same design were implanted at corresponding position of contralateral leg. At 4, 8 and 16 weeks after surgery, retrieved femurs went through micro-computed tomography(micro-CT) scanning and hard tissue processing. Under mechanical stress involved in fracture fixation, bending of screw bolt was observed at the portion exposed to facture gap at 4 weeks. Then local corrosion at the same portion was detected 16 weeks after surgery, which indicated the accumulation effect of mechanical stress on Mg corrosion. HP Mg screws in the fracture group had no significant difference with the control group in screw volume, surface area, surfaceto-volume ratio(S/V). And peri-implant bone volume/tissues volume(BV/TV) and bone volume density(BMD) in the fracture group was comparable to that in the control group. Furthermore, histological analysis showed new formed bone tissues in fracture gap and fracture healing 16 weeks after surgery. Under mechanical stress, HP Mg screw suffered bolt bending and local corrosion at the portion exposed to fracture gap. But it had no influence on the integral corrosion behaviors, osseointegration of HP Mg screw and the fracture healing. Therefore, HP Mg screws possessed good potential in fracture fixation of weightbearing bones.展开更多

It was revealed that the as-extruded Mg-3Sn-1Zn-0.5Mn alloy is a promising material for biodegradable implants, which possesses an interesting combination of preferred mechanical properties, better corrosion resistance and biocompatibility.

文摘The formation of protective multifunctional coatings on magnesium alloy MA8 using plasma electrolyt- ic oxidation (PEO) in an electrolytic system containing nanosized particles of titanium nitride was investigated. Electrochemical and mechanical properties of the obtained layers were examined. It was established that microhardness of the coating with the nanoparticle concentration of 3 gl-1 increased twofold (4.2 ± 0.5 GPa), while wear resistance decreased (4.97 × 10-6 mm3 N-1 m-1), as compared to re- spective values for the PEO-coating formed in the electrolyte without nanoparticles (2.1 ± 0.3 GPa, 1.12 × 10.5 mm3 N-1 m-1).

文摘Mg–9Li–3Al–1.6Y alloys were prepared through mixture method. The microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of the as-cast and asextruded alloys were studied by optical microscopy(OM),scanning electronic microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), mechanical properties testing, and electrochemical measurement. The as-cast Mg–9Li–3Al–1.6Y alloy with the average grain size of 325 lm is composed of b-Li matrix, block a-Mg, and granule Al2Y phases. After extrusion, the grain size of the as-cast alloy is obviously refined and reaches to 75 lm; the strength and elongation of the extruded alloy are enhanced by 17.20 % and49.45 %, respectively, owing to their fine microstructure and reduction of casting defects. The as-extruded alloy shows better corrosion resistance compared to the as-cast one, which may be related to the low stored energy and dislocation density in the extruded alloy, also the homogenization treatment before extrusion.

文摘Ultrasonic vibration with different powers from 0 k W to 1.6 k W was applied during the tungsten inert gas welding-brazing of Mg/Ti.The microstructures, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the ultrasonic assisted tungsten inert gas(U-TIG) welded-brazed Mg/Ti joint were characterized. The results showed that, without being subjected to ultrasonic vibration, coarse columnar α-Mg grains occurred in the fusion zone of Mg/Ti joint. However, with ultrasonic power of 1.2 k W,the average grain size of columnar α-Mg grains was refined from 200 μm to about 50 μm and the tensile strength of joints increased^18% up to 228 MPa.Besides, high fraction of grain boundaries was introduced by grain refinement, contributing to improve the corrosion resistance in two ways:(i) accelerating the formation of Mg(OH)2protective layer and(ii) reducing the mismatch and disorder between Mg(OH)2 protective layer and Mg alloy surface.

文摘Bone screws encounter complex mechanical environment in fracture fixation of weight-bearing bone.In the present study, high-purity magnesium(HP Mg) screws were applied in fixation of rabbit femoral intracondylar fracture with 3 mm gap. Therefore, HP Mg screws possessed good potential in fracture fixation of weightbearing bones.
