However, organizations must be mindful of how software security may affect quality control. This paper examines and promotes methods through which secure software development processes can be integrated into the Systems Software Development Life-cycle (SDLC) to improve system quality. Cyber-security and quality assurance are both involved in reducing risk. Software security teams work to reduce security risks, whereas quality assurance teams work to decrease risks to quality. There is a need for clear standards, frameworks, processes, and procedures to be followed by organizations to ensure high-level quality while reducing security risks. This research uses a survey of industry professionals to help identify best practices for developing software with fewer defects from the early stages of the SDLC to improve both the quality and security of software. Results show that there is a need for better security awareness among all members of software development teams.展开更多

For preventing and defense against these threats and risks, precise risk perception for effective mitigation is the first step. Risk perception is necessary requirement to mitigate risk as it drives the security strategy at the organizational level and human attitude at individual level. Sometime, individuals understand there is a risk that a negative event or incident can occur, but they do not believe there will be a personal impact if the risk comes to realization but instead, they believe that the negative event will impact others. This belief supports the common belief that individuals tend to think of themselves as invulnerable, i.e., optimistically bias about the situation, thus affecting their attitude for taking preventive measures due to inappropriate risk perception or overconfidence. The main motivation of this meta-analysis is to assess that how the cyber optimistic bias or cyber optimism bias affects individual’s cyber security risk perception and how it changes their decisions. Applying a meta-analysis, this study found that optimistic bias has an overall negative impact on the cyber security due to the inappropriate risk perception and considering themselves invulnerable by biasing that the threat will not occur to them. Due to the cyber optimism bias, the individual will sometimes share passwords by considering it will not be maliciously used, lack in adopting of preventive measures, ignore security incidents, wrong perception of cyber threats and overconfidence on themselves in the context of cyber security.展开更多

Although information security and cyber security are sometimes used synonymously, this study contends that they are not the same. The concept of cyber security is explored, which goes beyond protecting information resources to include a wider variety of assets, including people [1]. Protecting information assets is the main goal of traditional information security, with consideration to the human element and how people fit into the security process. On the other hand, cyber security adds a new level of complexity, as people might unintentionally contribute to or become targets of cyberattacks. This aspect presents moral questions since it is becoming more widely accepted that society has a duty to protect weaker members of society, including children [1]. The study emphasizes how important cyber security is on a larger scale, with many countries creating plans and laws to counteract cyberattacks. Nevertheless, a lot of these sources frequently neglect to define the differences or the relationship between information security and cyber security [1]. The paper focus on differentiating between cybersecurity and information security on a larger scale. The study also highlights other areas of cybersecurity which includes defending people, social norms, and vital infrastructure from threats that arise from online in addition to information and technology protection. It contends that ethical issues and the human factor are becoming more and more important in protecting assets in the digital age, and that cyber security is a paradigm shift in this regard [1].展开更多

The possibility also exists that a cyber security breach may shut down an entire critical infrastructure industry, putting a nation’s whole economy and national defense at risk. Hence, the issue of cyber security investment has risen to the top of the agenda of business and government executives. This paper examines how the existence of well-recognized externalities changes the maximum a firm should, from a social welfare perspective, invest in cyber security activities. By extending the cyber security investment model of Gordon and Loeb [1] to incorporate externalities, we show that the firm’s social optimal investment in cyber security increases by no more than 37% of the expected externality loss.展开更多

The proposed approach uses the mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) for collecting data of power consumption from smart meters of residential areas and electric vehicles (EVs), and also for connecting mobile system operators to the network. Moreover, by understanding the dynamic nature of MANET and their exposure to cyber-attacks, we propose an intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) technology with secure knowledge algorithm and anomaly detection for preventing the black hole attacks, and other unknown attacks that result into packet dropping. Test results obtained by using Network Simulator (NS-2) demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IDP technology in preventing the cyber-attacks in the proposed residential microgrid communication network.展开更多

Several studies have been conducted to highlight those security challenges. However, the majority of these surveys classify attacks based on the security requirements, confidentiality, integrity, and availability, without taking into consideration the accountability requirement. In this survey paper, we provide a classification of attacks based on the OSI model and discuss in more detail the cyber-attacks that can target the different layers of smart grid networks communication. We also propose new classifications for the detection and countermeasure techniques and describe existing techniques under each category. Finally, we discuss challenges and future research directions.展开更多

The equilibrium levels of self-protection and insurance coverage under the non- cooperative condition are compared with socially optimal solutions, and the associated coordination mechanisms are proposed. The results show that self-protection investment increases in response to an increase in potential loss when the interdependent risk is small; the interdependent risk of security investments often induce firms to underinvest in security relative to the socially efficient level by ignoring marginal external costs or benefits conferred on others. A subsidy on self-protection investment from the government can help coordinate a firm's risk management decision and, thereby, improve individual security level and overall social welfare.展开更多

文摘Platforms facilitate information exchange, streamline resources, and reduce production and management costs for companies. However, some viral information may invade and steal company resources,or lead to information leakage. For this reason, this paper discusses the standards for cybersecurity protection, examines the current state of cybersecurity management and the risks faced by cloud platforms, expands the time and space for training on cloud platforms, and provides recommendations for measuring the level of cybersecurity protection within cloud platforms in order to build a solid foundation for them.
文摘Intrusion Detection System(IDS)is a network security mechanism that analyses all users’and applications’traffic and detectsmalicious activities in real-time.The existing IDSmethods suffer fromlower accuracy and lack the required level of security to prevent sophisticated attacks. This problem can result in the system being vulnerable to attacks, which can lead to the loss of sensitive data and potential system failure. Therefore, this paper proposes an Intrusion Detection System using Logistic Tanh-based Convolutional Neural Network Classification(LTH-CNN).Here,the Correlation Coefficient based Mayfly Optimization(CC-MA)algorithm is used to extract the input characteristics for the IDS from the input data. Then, the optimized features are utilized by the LTH-CNN,which returns the attacked and non-attacked data. After that, the attacked data is stored in the log file and non-attacked data is mapped to the cyber security and data security phases. To prevent the system from cyber-attack,the Source and Destination IP address is converted into a complex binary format named 1’s Complement Reverse Shift Right(CRSR),where,in the data security phase the sensed data is converted into an encrypted format using Senders Public key Exclusive OR Receivers Public Key-Elliptic Curve Cryptography(PXORP-ECC)Algorithm to improve the data security.TheNetwork Security Laboratory-Knowledge Discovery inDatabases(NSLKDD)dataset and real-time sensor are used to train and evaluate the proposed LTH-CNN.The suggested model is evaluated based on accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, which outperformed the existing IDS methods, according to the results of the experiments.
文摘Cyber security breaches inflict costs to consumers and businesses. By extending the cyber security investment model of Gordon and Loeb [1] to incorporate externalities, we show that the firm’s social optimal investment in cyber security increases by no more than 37% of the expected externality loss.

文摘This paper presents a reliable and secure supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system equipped with advanced communication technologies (ACT) to enhance the operation and cyber security of the communication network in residential microgrid. Test results obtained by using Network Simulator (NS-2) demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed IDP technology in preventing the cyber-attacks in the proposed residential microgrid communication network.
文摘One of the significant challenges that smart grid networks face is cyber-security. Finally, we discuss challenges and future research directions.

文摘The impact of risk correlation on firm's investments in information system security is studied by using quantification models combining the ideas of the risk management theory and the game theory. A subsidy on self-protection investment from the government can help coordinate a firm's risk management decision and, thereby, improve individual security level and overall social welfare.

文摘A cyber physical system(CPS)is a complex system that integrates sensing, computation, control and networking into physical processes and objects over Internet. It plays a key role in modern industry since it connects physical and cyber worlds. In order to meet ever-changing industrial requirements, its structures and functions are constantly improved.Meanwhile, new security issues have arisen.A ubiquitous problem is the fact that cyber attacks can cause significant damage to industrial systems, and thus has gained increasing attention from researchers and practitioners. This paper presents a survey of state-of-the-art results of cyber attacks on cyber physical systems.First,as typical system models are employed to study these systems,time-driven and event-driven systems are reviewed. Then, recent advances on three types of attacks,i.e.,those on availability, integrity, and confidentiality are discussed. In particular, the detailed studies on availability and integrity attacks are introduced from the perspective of attackers and defenders.Namely, both attack and defense strategies are discussed based on different system models. Some challenges and open issues are indicated to guide future research and inspire the further exploration of this increasingly important area.
文摘Since the publication of Satoshi Nakamoto's white paper on Bitcoin in 2008,blockchain has(slowly)become one of the most frequently discussed methods for securing data storage and transfer through decentralized,trustless,peer-to-peer systems. This research identifies peer-reviewed literature that seeks to utilize blockchain for cyber security purposes and presents a systematic analysis of the most frequently adopted blockchain security applications. Our findings show that the Internet of Things(IoT)lends itself well to novel blockchain applications,as do networks and machine visualization,public-key cryptography, web applications, certification schemes and the secure storage of Personally Identifiable Information(PII).This timely systematic review also sheds light on future directions of research, education and practices in the blockchain and cyber security space, such as security of blockchain in IoT,security of blockchain for AI data, and sidechain security.
