Identifying a device and detecting a change in its position is critical for secure devices management in the Internet of Things(IoT).In this paper,a device management system is proposed to track the devices by using audio-based location distinction techniques.In the proposed scheme,traditional cryptographic techniques,such as symmetric encryption algorithm,RSA-based signcryption scheme,and audio-based secure transmission,are utilized to provide authentication,non-repudiation,and confidentiality in the information interaction of the management system.Moreover,an audio-based location distinction method is designed to detect the position change of the devices.Specifically,the audio frequency response(AFR)of several frequency points is utilized as a device signature.The device signature has the features as follows.(1)Hardware Signature:different pairs of speaker and microphone have different signatures;(2)Distance Signature:in the same direction,the signatures are different at different distances;and(3)Direction Signature:at the same distance,the signatures are different in different directions.Based on the features above,amovement detection algorithmfor device identification and location distinction is designed.Moreover,a secure communication protocol is also proposed by using traditional cryptographic techniques to provide integrity,authentication,and non-repudiation in the process of information interaction between devices,Access Points(APs),and Severs.Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method.The experimental results show that the proposedmethod has a good performance in accuracy and energy consumption. 展开更多

This paper proposed a two-tier location management mechanism (TTLM) by improving the current registration mechanism (CR) in IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The TTLM includes the visited network registration and the home network registration, in which the visited network registration is responsible for re-registration in IMS. When subscriber roams, the location information of home network will be updated by the visited network based on the change of user equipment (UE)' s IP address. Thereibre the TTLM can reduce the times of IMS registration signaling. Using the proposed analytical model, the performance of the CR and the proposed TTLM were investigated. After the performance analysis of CR and TTLM by using proposed analytical model, the cost of CR in IMS could significantly be reduced theoretically and also was proven by simulation experiments. 展开更多

It is a self-configuring network of mobile routers connected by wireless links. Since MANETs do not have a fixed infrastructure, it is a chal-lenge to design a location management scheme that is both scalable and cost-efficient. In this paper, we propose a cooperative location management scheme, called CooLMS, for MANETs. CooLMS combines the strength of grid based location management and pointer forwarding strategy to achieve high scalability and low signaling cost. An indepth formal analysis of the location management cost of CooLMS is presented. In particular, the total location management cost of mobile nodes moving at variable velocity is estimated using the Gauss_Markov mobility model for the correlation of mobility velocities. Simulation results show CooLMS performs better than other schemes under certain circumstances. 展开更多

And its location area size is changed dynamically corresponding to the state set that it belongs to. Comparing with the fixed LA scheme, numerical experiment result shows it's performance can be improved by 30% while the current location and paging procedure can still be applied. Besides, as this scheme need not process complicated user information, the requirement of computing power decreases significantly than the user-based schemes. Our scheme can be used in current 2G mobile systems (such as GSM, CDMA) and the third generation (3G) mobile systems with slightly modifying of the equipment software. 展开更多

In this paper, we propose a location management scheme based on Domain Name System (DNS) for PMIPv6 which can support global mobility by using DNS as a location manager. In addition, to support large numbers of mobile terminals and enhance network scalability a paging extension scheme is introduced to PMIPv6. To evaluate the proposed location management scheme, we establish an analytical model, formulate the location update cost and the paging cost, and analyze the influence of the different factors on the total signaling cost. The performance results show that our proposed scheme outperforms the basic PMIPv6 under various parameters in terms of reducing the signaling overhead and the proposed scheme reduces signaling overhead compared to the basic PMIPv6. 展开更多

This paper proposes a novel network architecture based on ID/Locator separation and suggests a new mobility management solution. This solution solves the problem of scalability in the network and also provides better support for mobility. It can be easily deployed because no modification of the mobile host’s protocol stack is required. The identifier contains some routing information; so the solution provides intrinsic interworking with traditional mobile hosts. Because the mapping systems are distributed to the edge networks, robustness of the whole system is enhanced and handover delay is decreased. 展开更多

Inspire the relevance of the problem, a few small research communities in this field work on some of its aspects. In terrestrial wireless network, the movement of the user triggers the location updating and determines the paging scheme, while in LEO satellite systems, the location updating and paging is mainly based on the movement of satellite. Terrestrial location management techniques must be altered to fit LEO systems. This paper introduces a modified movement based location update and paging scheme in LEO networks. In this scheme we propose the meta cell concept, which includes two spot beams of one satellite. First we present the location management scheme based on the architecture with meta cell location area. Then an analytical model is applied to formulate the cost of location updating and location paging for the and movement meta cell based dynamic location update scheme. The comparison of performance between meta cell architecture method and conventional signal spot cell architecture method is provided to demonstrate the cost effectiveness and robust of the proposed scheme under various parameters. To reduce the impact of meta cell architecture on location paging cost, we present forced location update strategy which used in the cases that the meta cell includes the two spot beams from different satellites. 展开更多

Location Attractiveness as a Major Factor in Museum Visitors'Choice and Satisfaction

This paper is intended to give a contribution to the debate on the functional relationship between the museum and the local territory; more specifically, the aim of this study is to understand the role of a museum location in attracting visitors and influencing their processes of choice and satisfaction. The study follows, in particular, a previous study conducted by Mariani and Mussini (2013) based on Fondazione di Venezia data, with a view to better contextualization level. Previous studies have examined the role of museums in enhancing the image of a destination and in attracting and conveying additional tourists' fluxes, arguing that although not all museums are a destination of choice for visitors, a great museum or a strong exhibition program still does represent a national and international attraction. This paper overturns this argument investigating whereas an appealing location (such as a tourist destination) can influence prospective visitors about the level of attractiveness of a pay cultural event taking place therein. A questionnaire was developed and data were collected at the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, Italy, in 2007, during the art exhibition "Venezia e l'Islam 829-1797", via 501 face-to-face visitors interviews. The research model analyzes data through the conjoint analysis and the descriptive statistics. Results show that the exhibition location has been a relevant factor in influencing the visitors' decision process linked to the attendance of the event. Data show that, for the majority of visitors, the exhibition had been located elsewhere, they would not have visited it. Thus, an appealing location or a structured tourist destination may function as an attractive platform that may contribute to enforce the overall visitor's satisfaction with regard to his or her attendance to a cultural event. Furthermore, such a fact depends on specific objective variables (e.g., level of education, age), although no significant differences were reported between segments based on other socio-demographic characteristics such as sex. To conclude, arts and cultural managers should market and position cultural events in locations that can function as attractive, thus as emotionally driven experience consumption sites. Furthermore, they should consider both the cognitive and the emotional aspects of visitor's experience when designing and planning their events, as well as when assessing visitor's satisfaction. Cognitive and emotional aspects should be considered simultaneously when measuring visitors' satisfaction. In shaping visitors' satisfaction, emotions, such as the pleasure to be in a particular location, are more significant than cognitive aspects, such as the theme of the exhibition. 展开更多

Moreover, this paper offers different fault detection and localization techniques that can be used for SGSs. Furthermore, a potential fault management case study is proposed in this paper. The SGS model in this paper is investigated using both of the Matlab/Simulink and the Real Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) to compute the fault management study. Safety Management of Non-urban Roads in Israel: An Application of Empirical Bayes Evaluation

A safety management system was established to provide for continuously improved safety levels of the non-urban roads in Israel. One of the main functions of the system lies in the identification and treatment of HL (hazardous locations) on existing roads. In line with the state-of-the art in road safety, the HL identification is based on an empirical Bayes evaluation, where an HL is recognized using a high positive difference between the number of accidents expected at the site and that predicted for similar sites. The latter is estimated using safety performance functions that were developed for local conditions, including single- and dual-carriageway road sections, and various types of intersections: signalized/non-signalized, three- and four-legged. The procedure of HL identification is applied annually, serving as a basis for the working programs on road infrastructure improvements. Positive safety effects of such improvements were recently reported in the country. These activities comply with the Road Infrastructure Safety Directive that was recently introduced in the European Union. 展开更多

This paper proposes a distributed and adaptive location management scheme based on Hierarchical Mobile IPv6. This scheme can balance the loads of mobility anchor points and increase the robustness of the hierarchical structure to certain extents. In this scheme, the optimized IP paging scheme is adopted to reduce the paging signaling cost and improve the scalability of the hierarchical mobility management. We implement the distributed and adaptive location management scheme in a simulation platform and compare its performance with that of two other location management schemes. Our simulation results show that our scheme is capable of balancing the signaling and traffic loads of mobility ancher points, decreasing the average handover latency, and increasing the throughout of the visited networks. 展开更多

One of the issues of mobility management in a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network is the high-frequency location binding update initiated by mobile nodes (MNs).To solve this problem,we propose a location management scheme based on dual location area (LA) in an IP/LEO satellite network.The proposed scheme uses two kinds of LA,the fixed Earth station LA and satellite LA,to manage the location of the MNs together.MNs operate the binding update procedures only when they are moving out of both of the two LAs last registered.Geographical location information of MN is used in the binding update procedures,so that the network can page the idle MNs near their last registered location first,to enhance the probability of paging success.A detailed description of the implementation of the scheme is provided.Mathematical analysis shows that the proposed scheme reduces the location management cost and minimizes the influences of the distance between MN and its home agent.Paging cost is also reduced by introducing geographical location information in the binding update procedures. 展开更多

The selforganizing topology scheme can enhance the robustness and quality of the mobility management. The information of location of the mobile node is stored in the distributed database, which makes the storage of the location information more reliable and robust, and more flexible strategies can be used. The numeric results show that HNMM can provide better performance than the general structure of mobile IPv6, when the mobile nodes move frequently and when there is high traffic throughput. 展开更多
