Abusive supervision and turnover intention: Mediating effects of psychological empowerment of nurses

Objective: This study aims to determine the mediating effects of psychological empowerment on abusive supervision and turnover intention as perceived by nurses to provide information to change the status of nurse turnover.Methods: A cross-sectional survey (a questionnaire examining perceptions of abusive supervision,measurement of psychological empowerment,and questionnaire for turnover intention) was used to collect data.A total of 1127 clinical nurses,who were recruited through convenience sampling,participated in the survey.Results: Nurses' average perceived abusive supervision,psychological empowerment,and turnover intention scores were 1.62 ± 0.95,3.24 ± 0.83,and 14.17 ± 3.78,respectively.Psychological empowerment was found to mediate the relationship between abusive supervision and turnover intention (P< 0.01).Turnover intention tends to be stronger and psychological empowerment reduced when nurse managers adopt an abusive leadership style.Conclusions: Nurses' psychological empowerment is an intermediary variable that predicts the relationship between abusive supervision and turnover intention.Nurse managers should manage abusive supervision to increase nurses' psychological empowerment and decrease turnover intention.

Nurse manager ’ s perception about clinical supervision at Madinah Hospitals in Saudi Arabia

Aim:The present study assesses the nurse managers’perception of clinical supervision.Method:A cross-sectional,descriptive,non-experimental quantitative research design was utilized in three governmental hospitals in Madinah Munawara city for a purposive sample of different levels of nurse managers(n=84)by using a questionnaire.Results:The total knowledge of nurses managers regarding clinical supervision domains,where 59.5%of participants had a high level of knowledge,with mean±standard deviation(47.262±11.151).The highest mean was in the clinical supervision-facilitating learning domain(18.464±4.155),with 69%of participants having a high level of knowledge regarding this domain.Safety and quality in the clinical supervision domain represent the lowest mean of knowledge(4.607±1.628).The level of total skills of nurses managers regarding clinical supervision domains,where 54.8%of participants had a high level of total skill while the range 19-60,with mean±standard deviation was(44.167±8.958).The highest mean was in the c linical supervision-f acilitating learning domain(17.405±3.671),with 48.8%of participants having an increased knowledge of this domain.Safety and quality in the clinical supervision domain represent the lowest mean of skills(3.952±1.270),with more than half 58.3%of nurse managers having average skills in the same domain.Conclusion:In the Al-Madinah region,there is no single policy or system of clinical supervision;rather,it is based on the needs of each organization.Clinical supervision should be handled appropriately and supportive.Hospital management should offer proper training for newly appointed first-line nurse managers with adequate,regular,and timely feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in their skills.Clinical supervision should be taught as a separate curriculum in nursing administration courses.Hospital managers should create a system,culture and environment that fosters high ethical standards and competent clinical monitoring.The right to supervision,feedback,help,appropriate working circumstances,and respect must be guaranteed to trainees and supervisors in this system.

Pain management in chronic pancreatitis incorporating safe opioid practices: Challenge accepted

Patients with chronic pancreatitis often experience severe,unrelenting abdominal pain,which can significantly impact their quality of life.Pain control,therefore,remains central to the overall management of chronic pancreatitis.Most of the strategies aimed at treating the pain of chronic pancreatitis are based on expert opinion and vary from one institution to another,as there are no uniform guidelines to direct a stepwise approach towards achieving this goal.In this editorial,we comment on best practice strategies targeted towards pain control in chronic pancreatitis,specifically highlighting the use of opioid medications in this patient population.We discuss various safe and efficacious prescription monitoring practices in this article.

Survey on AI and Machine Learning Techniques for Microgrid Energy Management Systems

In the era of an energy revolution,grid decentralization has emerged as a viable solution to meet the increasing global energy demand by incorporating renewables at the distributed level.Microgrids are considered a driving component for accelerating grid decentralization.To optimally utilize the available resources and address potential challenges,there is a need to have an intelligent and reliable energy management system(EMS)for the microgrid.The artificial intelligence field has the potential to address the problems in EMS and can provide resilient,efficient,reliable,and scalable solutions.This paper presents an overview of existing conventional and AI-based techniques for energy management systems in microgrids.We analyze EMS methods for centralized,decentralized,and distributed microgrids separately.Then,we summarize machine learning techniques such as ANNs,federated learning,LSTMs,RNNs,and reinforcement learning for EMS objectives such as economic dispatch,optimal power flow,and scheduling.With the incorporation of AI,microgrids can achieve greater performance efficiency and more reliability for managing a large number of energy resources.However,challenges such as data privacy,security,scalability,explainability,etc.,need to be addressed.To conclude,the authors state the possible future research directions to explore AI-based EMS's potential in real-world applications.

Abusive Supervision and Neglect： The Effects of Leader-Based Perceived Insider Status and Perceived Organizational Support

Researchers have noted various obvious behavioral outcomes caused by abusive supervision while overlooking hidden behaviors. We draw on self-determination theory to propose that abusive supervision leads to subordinates＇ hidden destructive behavior, namely neglect. This study examines the relationship by focusing on a three way interaction model. Using multi-wave design, we collected data in a Chinese leading petrochemical corporation. We found positive associations between abusive supervision and neglect. Such associations are influenced by subordinates＇ insider status and organizational support. Theoretical and practical implications, limitations and future research directions are discussed.

Abusive Supervision and Psychological Capital： A Mediated Moderation Model of Team Member Support and Supervisor-Student Exchange

Abstract Embedded in higher educational settings, this study examines the relationship between abusive supervision and psychological capital and the mechanism through which abusive supervision and team member support interact to influence psychological capital with supervisor-student exchange mediating the interaction with psychological capital. Data collected from 222 graduate students in six Chinese universities supports our mediated moderation model： abusive supervision negatively relates to psychological capital and supervisor-student exchange mediates the positive moderating effect of team member support on the relationship between abusive supervision and psychological capital. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

An Analysis of the Abuse of Power within Ancient China＇s Power System--Based on the Case of ＂Soul-stealing＂of the Qing Dynasty

In the year of 1768,the country was sent into a nation wide panic by a sorcery case named"soul stealing"in China,to which the emperor,officials and civilians at that time all responded differently.Based on the"soul stealing"case,this paper gives an analysis of the political environment and the bureaucratic system to explore the motives driven by power involved in the proceedings of the case,and in doing so the paper attempts to provide insights into the implications of the ancient power system that makes possible the abuse of authority.

基于血站管理信息系统的业务全流程监督管理体系构建

目的 血站管理者可以实时对血站全流程关键业务运行态势进行全流程掌握,实现对血站业务全流程的监督管理,提升业务工作效率和保障血液质量。方法 从编制依据、血站业务范围、岗位监督管理内容、总体框架设计、管理系统和监督管理界面设计、物理数据库设计、程序开发和上线调试等多个方面,建立业务全流程监督管理体系,并将其与血站管理信息系统进行对接,及时、全面地记录从采血到供血全过程的业务流程关键指标信息,通过手机APP的方式进行展示和管理,于2023年投入血站使用后对2023年和2022年总采集量、总制备量、总供应量,以及检验不合格报废率和非检验不合格报废率(不含乳糜)进行统计分析。结果 建立了基于血站管理信息系统的业务全流程监督管理体系的手机APP,实现了“移动办公”式监督管理,2023年正式投入使用后,2023年总采集量、总制备量和总供应量均高于2022年,分别增长5.88%(13 247/225 454 U)、4.73%(24 156/510 698 U)、6.70%(34 814/519 914 U),检验报废率(0.54%,2 868/534 854 U)显著低于2022年(0.60%,3 047/510 698 U)(P<0.01),非检验报废率(不含乳糜)(0.12%,649/534 854 U)显著低于2022年(0.19%,991/510 698 U)(P<0.01)。结论 基于血站管理信息系统的业务全流程监督管理体系的构建,可以满足血站不同管理者不限时间和地点的标准化管理服务需求,实现对业务全流程的监督管理,还可以持续提升血站业务工作和血站管理的规范化、科学化水平,保障血液资源供应。

依赖模糊层次分析算法的建设工程项目风险分析

近年来对建筑项目风险管理的研究逐步全面。由于建筑工程项目风险受技术、人力、环境、质量等诸多因素的影响,加之现如今存在监理监管和项目管理等多种项目风险评估方式,项目风险评估的准确性存在不准确等问题。首先基于建筑工程施工的基本流程,建立了建筑工程施工阶段风险管理模型,在模型的基础上,研究了基于AHP和模糊算法的风险评估方法的建设工程项目风险分析法,并分别以监理监管、项目管理、两者并行管理三种方式,对项目风险进行了计算。结果显示,采用两者并行的管理方式,其项目风险更低。

长期护理保险经办服务与监督管理的国内外实践与启示

长期护理保险试点启动至今已有8年,如何推动其由点及面、全面施行是值得探究的现实问题。本文通过分析长期护理保险经办服务与监督管理的国内实践现状发现,当前存在政策覆盖范围不足、监管体系不充分以及现有护理资源供给不足等问题。因此,借鉴国外实践经验,从建立第三方监管机制、制定科学评定标准、促进政府跨部门协作与信息共享、强化人员技能培养等方面提出政策建议,以期为建立适应我国国情的长期护理保险制度提供启示。
