Micro-LEDs(μLEDs)have advantages in terms of brightness,power consumption,and response speed.In addition,they can also be used as micro-sensors implanted in the body via flexible electronic skin.One of the key techniques involved in the fabrication ofμLED-based devices is transfer printing.Although numerous methods have been proposed for transfer printing,improving the yield ofμLED arrays is still a formidable task.In this paper,we propose a novel method for improving the yield ofμLED arrays transferred by the stamping method,using an innovative design of piezoelectrically driven asymmetric micro-gripper.Traditional grippers are too large to manipulateμLEDs,and therefore two micro-sized cantilevers are added at the gripper tips.AμLED manipulation system is constructed based on the micro-gripper together with a three-dimensional positioning system.Experimental results using this system show that it can be used successfully to manipulateμLED arrays. 展开更多

Background High environmental temperatures induce heat stress in broiler chickens,affecting their health and pro-duction performance.Several dietary,managerial,and genetics strategies have been tested with some success in mitigating heat stress(HS)in broilers.Developing novel HS mitigation strategies for sustaining broiler production is critically needed.This study investigated the effects of pre-hatch thermal manipulation(TM)and post-hatch baica-lein supplementation on growth performance and health parameters in heat-stressed broilers.Results Six hundred fertile Cobb 500 eggs were incubated for 21 d.After candling on embryonic day(ED)10,238 eggs were thermally manipulated at 38.5℃ with 55%relative humidity(RH)from ED 12 to 18,then transferred to the hatcher(ED 19 to 21,standard temperature)and 236 eggs were incubated at a controlled temperature(37.5℃)till hatch.After hatch,180-day-old chicks from both groups were raised in 36 pens(n=10 birds/pen,6 replicates per treatment).The treatments were:1)Control,2)TM,3)control heat stress(CHS),4)thermal manipulation heat stress(TMHS),5)control heat stress supplement(CHSS),and 6)thermal manipulation heat stress supplement(TMHSS).All birds were raised under the standard environment for 21 d,followed by chronic heat stress from d 22 to 35(32–33℃ for 8 h)in the CHS,TMHS,CHSS,and TMHSS groups.A thermoneutral(22–24℃)environment was maintained in the Control and TM groups.RH was constant(50%±5%)throughout the trial.All the data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA in R and GraphPad software at P<0.05 and are presented as mean±SEM.Heat stress significantly decreased(P<0.05)the final body weight and ADG in CHS and TMHS groups compared to the other groups.Embryonic TM significantly increased(P<0.05)the expression of heat shock protein-related genes(HSP70,HSP90,and HSPH1)and antioxidant-related genes(GPX1 and TXN).TMHS birds showed a significant increment(P<0.05)in total cecal volatile fatty acid(VFA)concentration compared to the CHS birds.The cecal microbial analysis showed significant enrichment(P<0.05)in alpha and beta diversity and Coprococcus in the TMHSS group.Conclusions Pre-hatch TM and post-hatch baicalein supplementation in heat-stressed birds mitigate the detrimental effects of heat stress on chickens’growth performance,upregulate favorable gene expression,increase VFA produc-tion,and promote gut health by increasing beneficial microbial communities. 展开更多

However, conventional lockingmechanisms restrict potential tasks or the support of non-owners, thusincreasing the working time because of waiting to avoid conflicts. Herein, wepropose an adaptive concurrency control approach that can reduce conflictsand work time. We classify shared object manipulation in mixed reality intodetailed goals and tasks. Then, we model the relationships among goal,task, and ownership. As the collaborative work progresses, the proposedsystem adapts the different concurrency control mechanisms of shared objectmanipulation according to the modeling of goal–task–ownership. With theproposed concurrency control scheme, users can hold shared objects andmove and rotate together in a mixed reality environment similar to realindustrial sites. Additionally, this system provides MS Hololens and Myosensors to recognize inputs from a user and provides results in a mixed realityenvironment. The proposed method is applied to install an air conditioneras a case study. Experimental results and user studies show that, comparedwith the conventional approach, the proposed method reduced the number ofconflicts, waiting time, and total working time. 展开更多

By switching the ... A 1-bit electronically controlled metasurface reflectarray is presented to achieve beam steering with multiple polarization manipulations. A metsurface unit cell loaded by two PIN diodes is designed. By switching the two PIN diodes between ON and OFF states, the isotropic and anisotropic reflections can be flexibly achieved. For either the isotropic reflection or the anisotropic reflection, the two operation states achieve the reflection coefficients with approximately equal magnitude and 180°out of phase, thus giving rise to the isotropic/anisotropic 1-bit metasurface unit cells. With the 1-bit unit cells, a 12-by-12 metasurface reflectarray is optimally designed and fabricated. Under either y-or x-polarized incident wave illumination, the reflectarray can achieve the co-polarized and cross-polarized beam scanning, respectively, with the peak gains of 20.08 d Bi and 17.26 d Bi within the scan range of about ±50°. With the right-handed circular polarization(RHCP) excitation, the left-handed circular polarization(LHCP) radiation with the peak gain of 16.98 d Bic can be achieved within the scan range of ±50°. Good agreement between the experimental results and the simulation results are observed for 2D beam steering and polarization manipulation capabilities. 展开更多

The establishment of an elastostatic stiffness model for over constrained parallel manipulators(PMs),particularly those with over constrained subclosed loops,poses a challenge while ensuring numerical stability.This study addresses this issue by proposing a systematic elastostatic stiffness model based on matrix structural analysis(MSA)and independent displacement coordinates(IDCs)extraction techniques.To begin,the closed-loop PM is transformed into an open-loop PM by eliminating constraints.A subassembly element is then introduced,which considers the flexibility of both rods and joints.This approach helps circumvent the numerical instability typically encountered with traditional constraint equations.The IDCs and analytical constraint equations of nodes constrained by various joints are summarized in the appendix,utilizing multipoint constraint theory and singularity analysis,all unified within a single coordinate frame.Subsequently,the open-loop mechanism is efficiently closed by referencing the constraint equations presented in the appendix,alongside its elastostatic model.The proposed method proves to be both modeling and computationally efficient due to the comprehensive summary of the constraint equations in the Appendix,eliminating the need for additional equations.An example utilizing an over constrained subclosed loops demonstrate the application of the proposed method.In conclusion,the model proposed in this study enriches the theory of elastostatic stiffness modeling of PMs and provides an effective solution for stiffness modeling challenges they present. 展开更多

The characteristic that multiple limb manipulation systems can resist disturbance external forces without relying on the feedback control of joint torques, called the robustness, has been addressed by several researchers. Based on their results, a further study of robustness is presented in this paper. By decomposing the space of external forces into two subspaces, the necessary and sufficient condition for a system to have robustness is given and a definition of robustness which is applicable to any multiple limb systems is also proposed. For the purpose of the evaluation of robustness, a new quality measure — critical disturbance external force and its algorithm are put forward. Theα-glucosidase inhibitor acarbose is commercially produced by Actinoplanes sp.and used as a potent drug in the treatment of type-2 diabetes.In order to improve the yield of acarbose,an efficient genetic manipulation system for Actinoplanes sp.was established.The conjugation system between E.coli carryingØC31-derived integrative plasmids and the mycelia of Actinoplanes sp.SE50/110 was optimized by adjusting the parameters of incubation time of mixed culture(mycelia and E.coli),quantity of recipient cells,donor-to-recipient ratio and the concentration of MgCl2,which resulted in a high conjugation efficiency of 29.4%.Using this integrative system,a cloned acarbose biosynthetic gene cluster was introduced into SE50/110,resulting in a 35%increase of acarbose titer from 2.35 to 3.18 g/L.Alternatively,a pIJ101-derived replicating plasmid combined with the counter-selection system CodA(sm)was constructed for gene inactivation,which has a conjugation frequency as high as 0.52%.Meanwhile,almost all 5-flucytosine-resistant colonies were sensitive to apramycin,among which 75%harbored the successful deletion of targeted genes.Using this replicating vector,the maltooligosyltrehalose synthase gene treY responsible for the accumulation of component C was inactivated,and component C was eliminated as detected by LC-MS.Based on an efficient genetic manipulation system,improved acarbose production and the elimination of component C in our work paved a way for future rational engineering of the acarbose-producing strains. 展开更多

This paper describes a pneumatic balloon actuator(PBA)composed of polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)for cellular aggregate manipulation.We evaluated the ability of the microdevice to manipulate a tiny and sensitive cellular aggregate without causing serious damage.We used human mesenchymal stem cells(hMSCs)for the cellular aggregate.We describe the design,fabrication,characterization and operation of the soft microfingers to pinch and release a spherical hMSC aggregate(φ200μm),and we employed a PBA to serve as an artificial muscle to drive the microfingers.A design of the microfingers in terms of dimensions,generated force and contact conditions was accomplished.The designed dimensions of a single finger were 560μm×900μm.In summary,we demonstrate the utility of the surface modification of a fingertip for pinching and releasing a cellular aggregate and describe a manipulation system that was constructed to drive and control the microfingers.The implemented manipulation system,which is composed of microfingers and a positioning mechanism,was tested and verified in a series of operations. 展开更多

Multifunctional photodetectors boost the development of traditional optical communication technology and emerging artificial intelligence fields, such as robotics and autonomous driving. However, the current implementation of multifunctional detectors is based on the physical combination of optical lenses, gratings, and multiple photodetectors, the large size and its complex structure hinder the miniaturization, lightweight, and integration of devices. In contrast, perovskite materials have achieved remarkable progress in the field of multifunctional photodetectors due to their diverse crystal structures, simple morphology manipulation, and excellent optoelectronic properties. In this review, we first overview the crystal structures and morphology manipulation techniques of perovskite materials and then summarize the working mechanism and performance parameters of multifunctional photodetectors. Furthermore, the fabrication strategies of multifunctional perovskite photodetectors and their advancements are highlighted, including polarized light detection, spectral detection, angle-sensing detection, and selfpowered detection. Finally, the existing problems of multifunctional detectors and the perspectives of their future development are presented. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Breast abscess during lactation is a severe complication of acute mastitis,which can lead to discomfort,high fever,breast fistula,sepsis,septic shock,breast damage,disease persistence and frequent hospitalization.Breast abscesses may also lead the mother to discontinue breastfeeding,thereby harming the infant’s health.The predominant pathogenic bacteria are Staphylococcus aureus,Staphylococcus epidermidis and Streptococcus.The incidence of breastfeeding abscesses in breastfeeding women ranges between 4.0%and 11.0%.In cases of breast abscess,the rate of cessation of lactation is 41.0%.In instances of breast fistula,the rate of cessation of lactation is very high(66.7%).Furthermore,50.0%of women with breast abscesses must be hospitalized and treated with intravenous antibiotics.Treatment includes antibiotics,abscess puncture and surgical incision and drainage.The patients suffer from stress,pain and easily induced breast scarring;the disease’s progression is prolonged and recurrent,interfering with infant feeding.Consequently,it is crucial to discover an adequate cure.CASE SUMMARY A 28-year-old woman with a breast abscess was treated with Gualou Xiaoyong decoction and painless breast opening manipulation 24 d after cesarean delivery.On the 2nd d of treatment,the patient’s breast mass was significantly reduced,the pain was significantly reduced,and the general asthenia was improved.All conscious symptoms disappeared after 3 d,breast abscesses faded after 12 d of treatment,inflammation images disappeared after 27 d,and normal lactation images were restored.CONCLUSION In treating breast abscesses during breastfeeding,the combination of Gualou Xiaoyong decoction and painless lactation provides a positive therapeutic impact.This disease’s treatment offers the advantages of a short course of treatment,no need to discontinue breastfeeding and the ability to rapidly mitigate symptoms,which can be used as a reference in clinical practice. 展开更多

The demand for image retrieval with text manipulation exists in many fields, such as e-commerce and Internet search. Deep metric learning methods are used by most researchers to calculate the similarity between the query and the candidate image by fusing the global feature of the query image and the text feature. However, the text usually corresponds to the local feature of the query image rather than the global feature. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a framework of image retrieval with text manipulation by local feature modification(LFM-IR) which can focus on the related image regions and attributes and perform modification. A spatial attention module and a channel attention module are designed to realize the semantic mapping between image and text. We achieve excellent performance on three benchmark datasets, namely Color-Shape-Size(CSS), Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) States and Fashion200K(+8.3%, +0.7% and +4.6% in R@1). 展开更多

Sideband manipulation of population inversion in a three-level A atomic configuration is investigated theoretically. Compared with the case of a nearly monochromatic field, a population inversion between an excited state and a ground state has been found in a wide sideband intensity range by increasing the difference in frequency between three components. Furthermore, the population inversion can be controlled by the sum of the relative phases of the sideband components of the trichromatic pump field with respective to the phase of the central component. Changing the sum phase from 0 to π, the population inversion between the excited state and the ground state can increase within nearly half of the sideband intensity range. At the same time, the sideband intensity range that corresponds to the system exhibiting inversion ρ00 〉 ρ11 also becomes wider evidently. 展开更多

Manipulation for degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis:A systematic review of randomized controlled trials

Objective: To assess the effectiveness and safety of manipulation intervention for degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis(DLS).Methods: This is a systematic review and meta-analysis. A full-scale retrieval method was performed until February 1, 2021, including nine databases. The homogeneity of different studies was summarized using the Review Manager. The quality of studies was determined with the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool.The evidence quality was graded with the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations approach.Results: A total of 6 studies involving 524 participants were included. The review demonstrated that manipulation has statistically significant improvements for treating DLS according to Japanese Orthopedic Association scores(mean difference, 3.76;95% confidence interval, 2.63 to 4.90;P <.001) and visual analog scale scores(mean difference,-1.50;95% confidence interval,-1.66 to-1.33;P <.001)compared to the control group. One study reported that the difference in the Oswestry Disability Index between the traction group and the combination of manipulation and traction group was statistically significant(P <.05), while another reported that manipulation treatment can significantly improve the lumbar spine rotation angle on X-ray images compared with the baseline data(P <.05). Moreover, the manipulation group(experimental group) had fewer adverse events than the lumbar traction group(control group).Conclusion: Manipulation intervention is more effective and safer for DLS. Nevertheless, large-scale randomized controlled trials are required to confirm the current conclusions. 展开更多

Teleoperation is of great importance in the area of robotics,especially when people are unavailable in the robot workshop.It provides a way for people to control robots remotely using human intelligence.In this paper,a robotic teleoperation system for precise robotic manipulation is established.The data glove and the 7-degrees of freedom(DOFs)force feedback controller are used for the remote control interaction.The control system and the monitor system are designed for the remote precise manipulation.The monitor system contains an image acquisition system and a human-machine interaction module,and aims to simulate and detect the robot running state.Besides,a visual object tracking algorithm is developed to estimate the states of the dynamic system from noisy observations.The established robotic teleoperation systemis applied to a series of experiments,and high-precision results are obtained,showing the effectiveness of the physical system. 展开更多

Objective:To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of Duhuo Jisheng decoction combined with manipulation in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation.Method:We systematically searched 8 databases at home and abroad.Literature quality of the included studies was evaluated by the bias risk assessment tool of Cochrane collaboration network,and the Meta-analysis was performed by RevMan 5.3 software.Result:A total of 427 related literature were retrieved,and 12 studies were eventually included,involving 1153 patients.All studies were in Chinese.Meta-analysis results showed that the total effective rate of Duhuo Jisheng decoction combined with manipulation in the treatment of LDH was better than that of the control group(RR=1.23,95%CI[1.17,1.29],P<0.00001).Subgroup analysis showed that Duhuo Jisheng decoction combined with manipulation had a more significant effect than conventional treatment(RR=1.34,95%CI[1.20,1.50],P<0.00001),nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(RR=1.24,95%CI[1.12,1.37],P<0.0001),and Yaotongning capsules(RR=1.19,95%CI[1.10,1.29],P<0.0001).It has obvious advantages in improving VAS scores(MD=-1.19,95%CI-1.19[-1.87,-0.51],P=0.0006),but it has no obvious advantages in improving JOA scores(MD=2.6595%CI[0.06,5.24],P=0.05).In terms of safety,Duhuo Jisheng decoction combined with manipulation treatment reported fewer adverse events.Conclusion:The Duhuo Jisheng decoction combined with manipulation treatment can effectively relieve the clinical symptoms of patients with lumbar disc herniation,with obvious clinical efficacy,and fewer adverse events.But in view of the limitations of clinical studies,there are some limitations in this study,and more studies with high quality of evidence are needed to further confirm its efficacy and safety. 展开更多

In this study, primal-dual interior-point methods are used to minimize costs and losses in the generation and transmission of the predispatch active power flow in a hydroelectric system with previously scheduled line manipulations for preventative maintenance, over a period of twenty-four hours. The matrix structure of this problem and the modification that it imposes on the system is also broached in this study. From the computational standpoint, the effort required to solve a problem with or without line manipulations is similar, and the reasons for this are also discussed in this study. Rice is an important dietary source of the toxic mineral cadmium(Cd) for populations in which rice is the main staple food.When grown in agricultural soils that are contaminated with Cd,rice often accumulates excessive Cd into the grains,which is a serious threat to agricultural sustainability and human health.To limit Cd accumulation in rice grains,studies on the genetic basis of Cd accumulation in rice have been carried out extensively,and some low-Cd rice varieties have also been developed in recent years.However,the challenges in low-Cd rice breeding still exist because the outcomes of the current genetic improvements for low-Cd rice cannot fully meet the requirements for the development of Cd-safe rice at present.In this review,we outline the progress in understanding the physiological mechanisms and the genetic nature of Cd accumulation in rice and summarize the strategies and outcomes of low-Cd rice breeding over the past decade.By graphing the physiological mechanism of Cd transport in the rice plant,three key steps and some underlying genes are summarized and discussed.Also,two genetic features of the natural variation in rice grain-Cd accumulation,the phenotypic plasticity and subspecies divergence,and the potential genetic explanations for these features are also discussed.Finally,we summarize and discuss current progress and the potential issues in low-Cd rice breeding using different breeding strategies.We hope to propose strategies for future success in the breeding of low-Cd rice varieties over the next decade. 展开更多

Helical particle manipulation based on power-exponent-phase acoustic vortices generated by a sector transducer array

The characteristics of traditional acoustic vortices(AVs) were verified by the cross-sectional axisymmetric pressure distributions with perfect phase spirals around the center pressure null. In order to generate a non-axisymmetric pressure distribution, the concept of power-exponent-phase was first introduced into the formation of AV beams, named “powerexponent-phase acoustic vortices(PAVs)” in this paper. Based on a ring-array of sector transducers, the helical distribution of the low-pressure valley in cross-sections of PAVs, which enables particles to move from a distant position to the center low-potential well along a certain spiral passageway, was proved theoretically. The particle manipulation behavior for PAVs with a power order of 2 is numerically modeled and experimentally confirmed. The results show that PAVs with a nonaxisymmetric spiral pressure distribution can be used to realize the directional transport of particles in an enlarged scope,suggesting prospective application potential in biomedical engineering. 展开更多
