Results showed that after 2 months’combined treatment, of the 30 cases, 12 had marked improvement, 15 had improvement and 3 had not any improvement, with an effective rate of 90%; the activity of SOD and GSH-Px increased considerably while the content of LPO lowered strikingly. There were significant differences between pre-and post-treatment in the activity of SOD and GSH-Px and the content of LPO (P<0. 01). It reveals that this method is capable of improving VD patients’ clinical symptoms and signs such as headache, dizziness, hemi-paralysis or hemianesthesia, forced crying and laughing, etc.and also raising the ability of the body in removing oxygen free radical, and suppressing peroxidization of free radical to reduce its products, thereby alleviating the toxic effect of oxygen free radical on the brain tissues.展开更多

Acupoints used were scalp point Motor Area (MS 6), points of body acupuncture: Jianyu(LI 15) and Shousanli(LI 10) for paralysis of the upper limb; Zusanli (ST 36)and Xuanzhong (GB 39) for paralysis of the lower limb, combined with other points based on syndromes. Chinese medicinal herbs for reinforcing qi, promoting blood circulation, relieving muscular spasm and dredging meridians were used. Patients of the control group were treated with Troxerutinum, enteric Aspirin, etc.. Findings showed that out of the 54 cases of the treatment group, 28 were cured basically, 16 had marked improvement, 8 had improvement and 2 were ineffective, with the total effective rate of 96. 3%; of the 28 cases in the control group, 3 were cured basically, 7 had striking improvement, 13 had improvement and 5 were ineffective, with the total effective rate of 82.2%.Both the total effective rate and the basic-cure rate of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0. 01). Results of the present paper display that manipulating the needle to cause "qi reaching the affected area" and applying Chinese medicinal herbs can act on the locus by way of meridians which is the key point for achieving better therapeutic effect.展开更多

After treatment, of the 200 cases, 176 were cured, 15 had marked improvement and 9 had improvement. Two groups of acupoints were chosen and used alternately for keeping the excitement of acupoints, preventing acupoint fatigue and raising the therapeutic effect. In the acute stage of periphery facial palsy, acupuncture treatment was performed using shallow needling, mild manipulation and no needling penetration. In the convalescence stage and sequela stage, penetration needling was adopted and stronger stimulation given. During acute period and when facial muscular spasm appeared, EA stimulation was not suitable for facial acupoints. Over use of vision should be avoided.展开更多

Results showed that in VD patients, the content of serum TXB2 increased significantly and that of 6-Keto-PG1α decreased markedly in comparison with control group (P<0. 01), suggesting a significant imbalance between plasma TXB2 and 6-Keto-PG1α; after combined treatment with acupuncture, moxibustion and Chinese herbs, the content of plasma 6-Keto-PG1α raised remarkably and that of TXBα lowered, which had a positive correlation with clinical therapeutic effect. The fact indicates that this combined treatment is capable of regulating the balance between plasma TXB2 and 6-Keto-PG1α, increasing cerebral blood flow, raising the metabolic rate of the brain tissues and improving functions of the brain.展开更多

Traditional Chinese medicine is the foundation of traditional medicine in China. Chinese herbs and acu-puncture both exhibit remarkable effcacy in the treatment of PD. Clinical studies on the treatment of PD using Chinese herbs have confrmed that the combined use of Chinese herbs and the levodopa formulation can signifcantly increase the treatment effect and reduce toxic side effects. Basic studies further confrmed that various Chinese herbs and their monomeric substances can protect dopaminergic neurons in PD models. The major mechanisms include anti-infammation, anti-oxidant, anti-apoptosis, neuroprotection, mitochondrial function protection, and regulation of gut microbiota. The function of acupuncture in the treatment of PD has also gradually received extensive attention in China and other countries. Acupuncture not only has peculiar advantages in the improvement of symptoms of PD patients, but also can attenuate adverse drug reactions, delay disease progression, and increase the quality of life of patients. Basic studies further confrmed that acupuncture can improve many motor symptoms in animal models of PD and has cumulative effects and follow-up effects. The major mechanisms include dopamin-ergic neuron protection functions, anti-infammation and anti-oxidant effects, and the regulation of related neuro-transmitters and neural circuits. The clinical application of acupuncture and Chinese herbs still requires strict ran-domized, double-blind, controlled design, multi-centre and large-sample size evidence-based clinical studies and follow-up observations of long-term effcacy to support the effect. In addition, the multi-target and multi-pathway therapeutic mechanisms need further studies.展开更多

Method: Altogether 117 in-patients were randomly allocated into the treatment group of 86 cases and control group of 31 cases. Point injection was mainly adopted in the treatment group plus Chinese herbal decoction, while Western medicine was adopted in the control group. And then the therapeutic effect of the two groups was compared. Result: The total effective rate of the treatment group and control group were 96.5% and 80.6% respectively, and the treatment course of the treatment group was significantly shorter than the control group (P 〈 0.01). Conclusion: Combined needles and herbs have excellent effect in treating postoperative gastrointestinal syndrome and were superior to Western medicine.展开更多
