The material point method (MPM) can eliminate mesh distortion and thus is suitable for investigating geotechnical problems with large deformation. In this study, an advanced anisotropic critical state theory (ACST)-based soil model is implemented in MPM to study the response of strip footing resting on anisotropic sand. The capability of the model is verified by simulating several element tests and strip footing tests with different soil densities and fabric bedding plane orientations. For the footing problem with a vertical load, as the fabric bedding plane orientation increases, the bearing capacity decreases and its corresponding settlement increases. The failure pattern becomes asymmetrical when the bedding plane orientation or the loading direction is inclined. A comparison between the simulation results predicted by the anisotropic and isotropic models is made, which demonstrates that neglecting the fabric anisotropy may lead to the overestimation of the bearing capacity.展开更多

The method allowed the division of elements into four groups taking into account the excitation energies and measurement conditions of the sample. Two standard reference materials were used and 15 sample replicates were prepared and analyzed, then statistics were applied to assess the precision and accuracy of analytical results. The obtained results show that major compounds or elements (SiO2, P2O5, K2O, CaO, Fe2O3, Ti) can be determined in fine powder sample with a deviation lower than 15%, and a relative standard deviation in the range (1 - 10)%. The deviation was found to be lower than 5% for major compounds such as K2O, and CaO, which suggest that the EDXRF is accurate in evaluating major elemental concentrations in rock samples. It was also found that the method seems to be more accurate and precise for major elements than for trace element investigation. This screening analytical method can be used for routine analysis with acceptable results, even though the method should be optimized to increase its precision and accuracy.展开更多

Firstly, a formulation is briefly given for two-scale analysis (TSA) of the composite materials. And then a two-scale computation formulation of strains and stresses is developed by displacement solution with orthotropic material coefficients for three kinds of such composites structures, i.e., the tension column with a square cross section, the bending cantilever with a rectangular cross section and the torsion column with a circle cross section. The strength formulas for the three kinds of structures are derived and the TSM procedure is discussed. Finally the numerical results of stiffness and strength are presented and compared with experimental data. It shows that the TSM method in this paper is feasible and valid for predicting both the stiffness and the strength of the composite materials with periodic configuration.展开更多

文摘Lithium-sulfur battery(LSB)has brought much attention and concern because of high theoretical specific capacity and energy density as one of main competitors for next-generation energy storage systems. The widely commercial application and development of LSB is mainly hindered by serious“shuttle effect”of lithium polysulfides(Li PSs),slow reaction kinetics, notorious lithium dendrites, etc. In various structures of LSB materials, array structured materials, possessing the composition of ordered micro units with the same or similar characteristics of each unit, present excellent application potential for various secondary cells due to some merits such as immobilization of active substances, high specific surface area, appropriate pore sizes, easy modification of functional material surface, accommodated huge volume change, enough facilitated transportation for electrons/lithium ions, and special functional groups strongly adsorbing Li PSs.Thus many novel array structured materials are applied to battery for tackling thorny problems mentioned above. In this review, recent progresses and developments on array structured materials applied in LSBs including preparation ways, collaborative structural designs based on array structures, and action mechanism analyses in improving electrochemical performance and safety are summarized.Meanwhile,we also have detailed discussion for array structured materials in LSBs and constructed the structure-function relationships between array structured materials and battery performances.Lastly, some directions and prospects about preparation ways, functional modifications, and practical applications of array structured materials in LSBs are generalized. We hope the review can attract more researchers'attention and bring more studying on array structured materials for other secondary batteries including LSB.

文摘Sand typically exhibits anisotropic internal structure which may significantly influence its mechanical behavior. A comparison between the simulation results predicted by the anisotropic and isotropic models is made, which demonstrates that neglecting the fabric anisotropy may lead to the overestimation of the bearing capacity.

文摘To analyze the pipeline response under permanent ground deformation, the evolution of resistance acting on the pipe during the vertical downward offset is an essential ingredient. However, the efficient simulation of pipe penetration into soil is challenging for the conventional finite element(FE)method due to the large deformation of the surrounding soils. In this study, the B-spline material point method(MPM)is employed to investigate the pipe-soil interaction during the downward movement of rigid pipes buried in medium and dense sand.To describe the density-and stress-dependent behaviors of sand, the J2-deformation type model with state-dependent dilatancy is adopted. The effectiveness of the model is demonstrated by element tests and biaxial compression tests.Afterwards, the pipe penetration process is simulated, and the numerical outcomes are compared with the physical model tests. The effects of pipe size and burial depth are investigated with an emphasis on the mobilization of the soil resistance and the failure mechanisms. The simulation results indicate that the bearing capacity formulas given in the guidelines can provide essentially reasonable estimates for the ultimate force acting on buried pipes, and the recommended value of yield displacement may be underestimated to a certain extent.

文摘Predicting the constitutive response of granular soils is a fundamental goal in geomechanics. This paper presents a machine learning(ML)framework for the prediction of the stress-strain behaviour and shearinduced contact fabric evolution of an idealised granular material subject to triaxial shearing. The MLbased framework is comprised of a set of mini-triaxial tests which provide a benchmark for the setup and validation of the discrete element method(DEM)model of the granular materials,a parametric DEM simulation programme of virtual triaxial tests which provides datasets of micro-and macro-mechanical information,as well as a multi-layer perceptron(MLP)neural network which is trained and tested using the DEM-based datasets. The ML model only requires the initial void ratio of the granular sample as the input for predicting its constitutive response. The excellent agreement between the ML model prediction and experimental test and DEM simulation results indicates that the MLebased modelling approach is capable of capturing accurately the effects of initial void ratio on the constitutive behaviour of idealised granular materials, bypassing the need to incorporate the complex micromechanics underlying the macroscopic mechanical behaviour of granular materials.Lastly,a detailed comparison between the used MLP model and long short-term memory(LSTM)model was made from the perspective of technical algorithm, prediction accuracy, and computational efficiency.

文摘In this work,an acoustic topology optimizationmethod for structural surface design covered by porous materials is proposed. The analysis of acoustic problems is performed using the isogeometric boundary elementmethod.Taking the element density of porousmaterials as the design variable, the volume of porousmaterials as the constraint, and the minimum sound pressure or maximum scattered sound power as the design goal, the topology optimization is carried out by solid isotropic material with penalization(SIMP)method. To get a limpid 0–1 distribution,a smoothing Heaviside-like function is proposed. To obtain the gradient value of the objective function,a sensitivity analysis method based on the adjoint variable method(AVM)is proposed. To find the optimal solution, the optimization problems are solved by the method of moving asymptotes(MMA)based on gradient information.Numerical examples verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology optimization method in the optimization process of two-dimensional acoustic problems.Furthermore, the optimal distribution of sound-absorbingmaterials is highly frequency-dependent and usually needs to be performed within a frequency band.

文摘In order to study the mechanical properties of the heterogeneous core plate of the wind turbine blade,a modeling method of the core plate based on displacement field variables is proposed.Firstly, the wind turbine blade core plate was modeled according to the theory of modeling heterogeneous material characteristics.Secondly, the three-point bending finite element model of the wind turbine blade core plate was solved by the display dynamic equation to obtain the deformation pattern and force-deformation relationship of the core plate. Finally, the three-point bending static test was conducted to compare with the finite element analysis. The test results show that:the damage form of the wind turbine blade core plate includes elasticity, yield, and failure stages. The main failure modes are plastic deformation, core material collapse, and panel-core delamination. The failure load measured by the test is 1.59 kN,which is basically consistent with the load-displacement result obtained by the simulation, with a difference of only 1.9%,which verifies the validity and reliability of the model. It provides data references for wind turbine blade structure design.

文摘This paper proposed the explicit generalized-a time scheme and periodic boundary conditions in the material point method(MPM)for the simulation of coseismic site response. The proposed boundary condition uses an intuitive particle-relocation algorithm ensuring material points always remain within the computational mesh. The explicit generalized-a time scheme was implemented in MPM to enable the damping of spurious high frequency oscillations.Firstly, the MPM was verified against finite element method(FEM).Secondly, ability of the MPM in capturing the analytical transfer function was investigated.Thirdly,a symmetric embankment was adopted to investigate the effects of ground motion arias intensity(I_(a)),geometry dimensions, and constitutive models. The results show that the larger the model size, the higher the crest runout and settlement for the same ground motion. When using a Mohr-Coulomb model, the crest runout increases with increasing I_(a).However,if the strain-softening law is activated, the results are less influenced by the ground motion. Finally, the MPM results were compared with the Newmark sliding block solution. The simplified analysis herein highlights the capabilities of MPM to capture the full deformation process for earthquake engineering applications, the importance of geometry characterization, and the selection of appropriate constitutive models when simulating coseismic site response and subsequent large deformations.

文摘In this work the performance of a screening analytical method for Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) analysis in terms of accuracy and precision was evaluated through analysis of rock standard reference materials. This screening analytical method can be used for routine analysis with acceptable results, even though the method should be optimized to increase its precision and accuracy.

文摘Inverse design focuses on identifying photonic structures to optimize the performance of photonic devices.Conventional scalar-based inverse design approaches are insufficient to design photonic devices of anisotropic materials such as lithium niobate(LN).To the best of our knowledge, this work proposes for the first time the inverse design method for anisotropic materials to optimize the structure of anisotropic-material based photonics devices.Specifically, the orientation dependent properties of anisotropic materials are included in the adjoint method, which provides a more precise prediction of light propagation within such materials. The proposed method is used to design ultra-compact wavelength division demultiplexers in the X-cut thin-film lithium niobate(TFLN)platform.By benchmarking the device performances of our method with those of classical scalar-based inverse design,we demonstrate that this method properly addresses the critical issue of material anisotropy in the X-cut TFLN platform. This proposed method fills the gap of inverse design of anisotropic materials based photonic devices, which finds prominent applications in TFLN platforms and other anisotropicmaterial based photonic integration platforms.

文摘In this paper, a two-scale method (TSM) is presented for identifying the mechanics parameters such as stiffness and strength of composite materials with small periodic configuration. It shows that the TSM method in this paper is feasible and valid for predicting both the stiffness and the strength of the composite materials with periodic configuration.
