First, two distinct Western traditions in defining well-being are compared, namely hedonic and eudaemonic approaches. The hedonic approach defines happiness as the maximization of pleasure, while the eudaemonic approach regards happiness as the fulfillment of a person’s natural needs and overall flourishing. Second, the views of well-being in lens of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism in the East are reviewed. The common and different understandings of well-being between Western and Eastern traditions are discussed as followed. Finally, two well-known operationalized definitions of well-being, that is subjective well-being and psychological well-being, proposed in the roots of Western traditions are elucidated.展开更多

The participants were 350 older adults aged over 60 years who lived in South Korea and were active in thelocal community. The model proposed in this study was found to be suitable. Depression, self-efficacy, and social support had adirect effect on the psychological well-being of older adults, while depression, activities of daily living (ADLs), and self-efficacy hadan indirect effect. Self-efficacy and social support mediated the relationship between depression and psychological well-being, andself-efficacy mediated the relationship between ADLs and psychological well-being. It is necessary to develop and implement aprogram that can help alleviate depression and improve self-efficacy and social support among older adults in order toenhance their psychological well-being. Additionally, to establish a model that predicts the psychological well-being of olderadults, a study is needed to verify the model not only in Korea but also in other countries.展开更多

In this paper we propose giving an overview of DFM, and doubt, criticize, and modify DFM from the perspective of Chinese psychological suzhi research. The available literature from 1983 to 2012 that is related to DFM and concerning psychological suzhi research in the past 20 years has been reviewed. In addition, we also absorbed the idea of positive psychology and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Constitution theory to develop theoretically the relationship model between psychological suzhi and mental health. The relationship model between psychological suzhi and mental health modifies and transcends PTH and DFM. It will be the new research area of mental health research.展开更多

This study therefore aimed to examine whether and how self-reported PA and personal beliefs about suffbcient PA are associated with sleep and psychological functioning in a sample of Swiss adolescents, using both cross-sectional and prospective data. Methods: An overall sample of 864 vocational students(368 girls, 17.98± 1.36 years, mean ± SD) was followed prospectively over a 10-month period. At each measurement occasion, participants filled in a series of self-report questiocnaires to assess their PA levels, their personal beliefs about whether or not they engage in sufficient PA, sleep(insomnia symptoms, sleep quality, sleep-onset latency, and number of awakenings),and psychological functioning(depressive symptoms, quality of life, perceived stress, and mental toughness). Results: Adolescents who believe that they are sufficiently physically active to maintain good health reported more restoring sleep. No differen?ces in sleep were found between adolescents who meet PA recommendationsvs. those who do not. Additionally, adolescents who believe that they were sufficiently physically active also reported better psychological functioning. This close relationship between adolescents5 beliefs about their PA involvement and their sleep and psychological functioning was corroborated in the prospective analyses. Conclusion: Cognitive factors should be studied more intensively when elucidating the relationship among PA, sleep, and psychological functioning in young people, particularly when aiming to develop new exercise interventions targeting psychological outcomes.展开更多

文摘Objective:To explore the influence of physical exercise, psychological resilience, and peer influence on subjective well-being,and then build a model of moderated mediation. Methods:Physical Activity Rating,Connor Davision Resilience Scale,Peer Influence Scale, and Index of Well-Being were used. This paper investigated 790 undergraduates.Results:(1)Physical exercise has a significant positive predictive effect on subjective well-being(β=0.43,P<0.001);(2)Psychological resilience plays a part in mediating the relationship between physical exercise and subjective well-being.The mediating effect value is 0.18;(3)The relationship between physical exercise and psychological resilience moderated by the peer influence.Compared with the low peer influence(β simple=0.01,t=0.06,P>0.05),physical exercise has a stronger positive predictive effect on psychological resilience in college students with high peer influence(β simple=0.87,t=2.07,P<0.05).Conclusion:Physical exercise affects college students'subjective well-being through psychological resilience, and peer influence moderates the mediating effect of psychological resilience.

文摘This study examined factors related to the psychological well-being of older adults and built and verified a model for predictingpsychological well-being. Additionally, to establish a model that predicts the psychological well-being of olderadults, a study is needed to verify the model not only in Korea but also in other countries.
文摘Aiming at the limitations of psychopathology (PTH), the dual-factor model of mental health (DFM) was proposed as a new mental health concept and methodology under the background of positive psychology trend. It will be the new research area of mental health research.

文摘Background: Preliminary evidence among adults suggests that the ways in which individuals think about their physical activity(PA) behavior is more closely associated with their well-being than self-reported PA. Conclusion: Cognitive factors should be studied more intensively when elucidating the relationship among PA, sleep, and psychological functioning in young people, particularly when aiming to develop new exercise interventions targeting psychological outcomes.

Contrary to the healthy parental involvement, a family can also have negative effects on an athlete development. The purpose of this study was to determine gender, father involvement, and mother involvement differences in the psychological profiles of collegiate freshmen athletes as measured by perfectionism, physical self-concept, and psychological well-being. Methods: Eighty-two male and 73 female collegiate freshmen responded to self-reported measures of family involvement, perfectionism, physical self-concept, and psychological well-being. Three separate 2 x 2 x 2 (gender x mother involvement x father involvement) factorial multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVAs) were carried out on the respective subscales from the reported measures. Results: There were significant differences for gender as well as father involvement in perfectionism (p 〈 0.01). Freshmen females had lower concern over mistakes, and greater levels of organization as well as planfulness than males. Furthermore, freshmen athletes with high involved fathers showed greater levels of high standards for others as well as organization. Conclusion: Father involvement and mother involvement impact perfectionism, physical self-concept, and psychological well-being. perspective. extends through the freshmen year in college as shown in the athletes' Future research should develop better measures and utilize a family systems Copyright @ 2012, Shanghai University of Sport.
