There is a great challenge to fabricate superhydrophobic coating with excellent mechanical durability and corrosion resistance.Inspired by the pinecone-shaped structure,a novel reduced-graphene oxide(rGO)/Ni composite coating with pinecone-like micro/nanostructures was fabricated successfully on a stainless steel substrate using a simple electrodeposition method combining Ni pre-deposition and an elevated current assistant approach. The results show that the coating is of self-cleaning and superhydrophicity with a water contact angle(CA)of 162.7°±0.8°and a sliding angle(SA)of 2.5°±1.0°.Importantly,the coating still maintains the excellent self-cleaning and superhydrophicity, water CA of 155.8°±1.2°and SA of 5.9°±1.2°,even after 100-cycle mechanical abrasion.Meanwhile, the coating also exhibits good anticorrosion performance in 3.5 wt%NaCl solution, with 99.98%inhibition efficiency. The simple fabrication method may provide a cost-effective way to prepare mechanically durable,anticorrosive,self-cleaning and superhydrophobic coatings on metal substrates. 展开更多

The impact corrosion-abrasion properties and mechanism of high manganese steel were investigated under different impact energies. The result shows that the wearability of the steel decreases with the increase of the impact energy. The dominant failure mechanism at a lower impact energy is the rupture of extrusion edge along root and a slight shallow-layer spalling. It transforms to shallow-layer fatigue flaking along with serious corrosion-abrasion when the impact energy is increased, and finally changes to bulk flaking of hardened laver caused by deeo work-hardening and heaw corrosion-abrasion. 展开更多

Effects of abrasive concentration on material removal rate CMRR) and surtace quality m the chemical mecnamcal polishing (CMP) of light-emitting diode sapphire substrates are investigated. Experimental results show that the MRR increases linearly with the abrasive concentration, while the rms roughness decreases with the increasing abrasive concentration. In addition, the in situ coefficient of friction (COF) is also conducted during the sapphire polishing process. The results present that COF increases sharply with the abrasive concentration up to 20 wt% and then shows a slight decrease from 20wt% to 40wt%. Temperature is a product of the friction force that is proportional to COF, which is an indicator for the mechanism of the sapphire CMP. 展开更多

In parallel hybrid electrical vehicle (PHEV) equipped with automatic mechanical transmission (AMT), the driving smoothness and the clutch abrasion are the primary considerations for powertrain control during gearshift and clutch operation. To improve these performance indexes of PHEV, a coordinated control system is proposed through the analyzing of HEV powertrain dynamic characteristics. Using the method of minimum principle, the input torque of transmission is optimized to improve the driving smoothness of vehicle. Using the methods of fuzzy logic and fuzzy-PID, the engaging speed of clutch and the throttle opening of engine are manipulated to ensure the smoothness of clutch engagement and reduce the abrasion of clutch friction plates. The motor provides the difference between the required input torque of transmission and the torque transmitted through clutch plates. Results of simulation and experiments show that the proposed control strategy performs better than the contrastive control system, the smoothness of driving and the abrasion of clutch can be improved simultaneously. 展开更多

The roller-scraper tribosystem of automatic teller machine(ATM) plays an important role in reliable cash requests. However, the abrasive wear of the polymer tribosystem becomes a prominent problem when operating in sandy environment. The wear behavior of the tribosystem in a simulated sandy environment has been experimentally studied previously. However the abrasive wear mechanism of roller-scraper tribosystems is still unknown to new design. The wear rates of polymer rollers were examined comprehensively and several jumping variations were found in the full data extent.Three wear stages were classified by the magnitude of wear rates, and different dominant wear mechanisms corresponding with different particle diameter were found by examining the worn surfaces.Accordingly a presumption was proposed that wear mechanisms in different stages were correlated with sand particles of different diameter. In a verification experiment, three typical wear mechanisms including cutting, ploughing, and wedging were found corresponding with different wear stages by scanning electron microscope(SEM) examination.A theoretical analysis was carried out with a simplified sphere particle intrusion model and the transfer conditions for different wear mechanisms were studied referring to the slip-field theory. As a main result, three typical wear models versus friction coefficient of particle/roller,and particle radius were mapped with variant hardness of the polymer roller and ratio of contact shear stress to bulk shear stress. The result illuminated the abrasive wear mechanism during particle intrusion.Particularly, the critical transition conditions gave the basis for improving the wear performance of roller-scraper tribosystems in a sandy environment. 展开更多

Abradable seal rubber has been widely used in aero-engine fans to improve their efficiency by reducing the clearance between rotating and stationary components. To investigate the high-speed scraping behavior between a vulcanized silicone rubber and a Ti-6Al-4V fan blade and evaluate the abradable performance of seal rubber, abrasion tests were conducted at a blade tip velocity of 50–300 m/s with an incursion rate of 100 lm/s. The influences of the blade tip velocity on the wear mechanism and interaction forces were specially analyzed. It is shown that abrasive wear and pattern wear are the predominant wear mechanisms, and pattern wear can be seen as the emergence and propagation of cracks. With an increase of the blade tip velocity, both of the final incursion depth and wear mass loss of seal rubber exhibit growth trends. The gradual changes of rubbing forces with an increase of rubbing time are the characteristic of abrasive wear, and force curves with unstable mutations are a reflection of pattern wear. At a constant incursion rate of 100 lm/s, the maximum values of interaction forces decrease first and then grow with an increase of the blade tip velocity, and the blade tip velocity of 150 m/s becomes the cut-off point between abrasive wear and pattern wear. 展开更多

A comprehensive study of the tribological performance of the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu/Al2O3 composite and its matrix alloy is presented in this paper, with a specific emphasis to identify and model the applicable wear conditions where the composite provides a minimum of 50% reduction in wear rate and 25% lowering of the friction coefficient. Two-body abrasion experiments following Taguchi L27 orthogonal design have been performed separately on alloy and composite materials, both prepared by the stir casting method. The influence of crucial control factors including silicon carbide (SiC) abrasive size, load, sliding distance, and velocity on the percentage variations of wear rates and friction coefficients between alloy and composite have been studied using the analysis of variance technique and full quadratic regression method. The dominant control factors are identified as abrasive size, load, and the interaction between abrasive size and load. This has been verified by establishing the influence of abrasive size and load on variations of wear mechanisms like microcutting, microploughing, and delamination, identified by means of in-depth characterization of worn surfaces and generated debris for both alloy and composite. The selection of applicable tribological condition for the composite has been accomplished by adopting the multi-response optimization technique based on combined desirability approach to obtain concurrent optimization of the percentage variations of wear rates and friction coefficients. Predictive models correlating the superiority of tribological performance of composite with abrasion conditions have been developed, and these are found to be accurate (errors <10%), as determined by confirmatory experiment. 展开更多
