Structural and Conceptual Design Analysis of an Axial Compressor for a 100 MW Industrial Gas Turbine (IND100)

The structural design of the IND100 axial compressor requires a multistage interrelationship between the thermodynamic, aerodynamic, mechanical design and structural integrity analysis of the component. These design criteria, sometimes act in opposition, hence engineering balance is employed within the specified design performance limits. This paper presents the structural and conceptual design of a sixteen stage single shaft high pressure compressor of IND100 with an overall pressure ratio of 12 and mass flow of 310 kg/s at ISOSLS conditions. Furthermore, in order to evaluate the conceptual design analysis, basic parameters like compressor sizing, load and blade mass, disc stress analysis, bearings and material selections, conceptual disc design and rotor dynamics are considered using existing tools and analytical technique. These techniques employed the basic thermodynamic and aerodynamic theory of axial flow compressors to determine the temperature and pressure for all stages, geometrical parameters, velocity triangle, and weight and stress calculations of the compressor disc using Sagerser Empirical Weight Estimation. The result analysis shows a constant hub diameter annulus configuration with compressor overall axial length of 3.75 m, tip blade speed of 301 m/s, maximum blade centrifugal force stress of 170 MPa, with major emphasis on industrial application for the structural component design selections. 展开更多

Mechanical Integrity and Failure Analysis of Photovoltaic Modules under Simulated Snow Loads Using Pneumatic Airbag Setup

However, the effi</span>ciency <span>of PV modules remains significantly lower than that of other renewable</span> energy sources such as wind and hydro. One of the critical elements affecting a photovoltaic module’s efficiency is the variety of external climatic conditions under which it is installed. In this work, the effect of simulated snow loads was evaluated on the performance of PV modules with different <span>types of cells and numbers of busbars. According to ASTM-1830 and IEC-1215</span> standards, a load of 5400 Pa was applied to the surface of PV modules for 3 hours. An indigenously developed pneumatic airbag test setup was used for the uniform application of this load throughout the test, which was validated by load cell and pressure gauge. Electroluminescence (EL) imaging and solar flash tests were performed before and after the application of load to characterize the performance and effect of load on PV modules. Based on these tests, the maxi<span>mum power output, efficiency, fill factor and series resistance were deter</span>mined. The results show that polycrystalline modules are the most likely to withstand the snow loads as compared to monocrystalline PV modules. A maximum drop of 32.13% in the power output and a 17.6% increase in series resistance were observed in the modules having more cracks. These findings demonstrated the efficacy of the newly established test setup and the potential of snow loads for reducing the overall performance of PV module. 展开更多

Rigid-flexible composite pavement has gained significant popularity in recent decades.This paper provides a comprehensive review of the research progress concerning rigid-flexible composite pavement,aiming to promote its application and address key issues while identifying future directions.The design theory and methodology of rigid-flexible composite pavement are discussed,followed by a description of its structural and mechanical behavior characteristics.The load stress,temperature stress,and their interactive effects between the asphalt layer and the rigid base were analyzed.It is clarified that the asphalt layer serves a dual role as both a“functional layer”and a“structural layer”.Typical distresses of rigid-flexible composite pavement,which primarily occur in the asphalt layer,were discussed.These distresses include reflective cracking,top-down cracking,rutting,and compressive-shear failure.Generally,the integrity of the rigid base and the interlaminar bonding conditions significantly impact the performance and distress of the asphalt layer.The technology for enhancing the performance of rigid-flexible composite pavement is summarized in three aspects:asphalt layer properties,rigid base integrity,and interlaminar bonding condition.The study concludes that developing high-performance pavement materials based on their structural behaviors is an effective approach to improve the performance and durability of rigid-flexible composite pavement.The integrated design of structure and materials represents the future direction of road design. 展开更多

In order to obtain digital design of complex mechanical product as optimal as possible in an efficient way,multi- discipline integrated design method is proposed,which integrates multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) into digital design process to design virtual prototype (VP) efficiently.Through combining MDO and multi-body system dynamics,MDO integra- tion platform,which takes VP as the core,is constructed.Then automated MDO design of VP is realized and changes of mechani- cal design project can be expressed intuitively during MDO design process.The proposed approach is also demonstrated by using inte- grated analyzing flow of vehicle engineering design.The result shows that the method not only can feasibly realize the MDO of VP, but also can solve the optimization problem of vehicle multi-body system dynamic performance.It can be adopted to the digital de- sign of other complex system. 展开更多

In this paper, the mechanical and electrical design for a twowheeled cylindrical miniature autonomous robot ("BMS-1", BIT MicroScout-1) is presented and some autonomous capabilities are implemented by multiple sensors and some arithmetic models. Several experimental results show that BMS-1 is useful for surveillance in confined spaces and suitable for large-scale surveillance due to some autonomous capabilities. 展开更多

Mechanism for Integrating Sustainability in Engineering Design

This paper proposes an integration mechanism to help the owners and designers to integrate sustainability issues into design process, communicate with stakeholders and achieve consensus. Literature concerning engineering design, decision making and environment assessment were reviewed. Sustainability disputes in construction projects were analyzed and owners and designers were interviewed to understand the evolvement of these issues. Key success factors of other successful integration projects were also referenced. An integration mechanism including procedures was established along with traditional design process. Four integration steps were developed: organize integration team, propose integration issues, determine acceptance criteria, and evaluate alternatives; and four integration dimensions were also identified: appeals, decision making and execution, stakeholders, and experts. A matrix was formed by the four integration steps and four dimensions. A rigor index was proposed to measure the quality of the integration process. Finally, the mechanism was tested on a construction project with sustainability controversy to check its validity. The study results show that the integration mechanism can help incorporate sustainability issues and achieve consensus if followed rigorously. The integration matrix systematically examines the eight key integration factors under the four dimensions. The rigor index can explain the quality in integrating sustainability issues into engineering design. The mechanism provides a useful tool for the owners and designers to cope with the sustainability decision making difficulties. 展开更多

针对微电网中缺乏对碳排放流特性的精确刻画,导致运行层面中微电网的低碳运行方式和经济运行方式之间矛盾凸显,低碳和经济难以兼顾的问题,构建了计及绿电制氢和多能耦合的电-氢一体化运行框架,提出了综合考虑碳排放流和低碳需求响应的... 针对微电网中缺乏对碳排放流特性的精确刻画,导致运行层面中微电网的低碳运行方式和经济运行方式之间矛盾凸显,低碳和经济难以兼顾的问题,构建了计及绿电制氢和多能耦合的电-氢一体化运行框架,提出了综合考虑碳排放流和低碳需求响应的微电网低碳-经济协同双层优化调度模型。上层优化调度模型中,以风光储氢一体化工业园区为典型微电网场景,以低碳性和经济性协调最优为目标,将源侧碳交易机制融入调度决策目标中,充分挖掘微电网低碳-经济协同运行方式,以此制定微电网最优低碳经济调度策略;下层低碳需求响应模型中,以微电网用户碳减排所节约的碳排放成本为激励信号,通过建立微电网能量流与碳排放流的映射关系,实现碳排放责任的转移和分摊以及对微电网运行中的碳排放特性精细化评估,进而建立由负荷碳排放强度时空差异性引导用户参与碳减排策略的低碳需求响应(demond response,DR)模型,深入挖掘微电网源-荷间的低碳性和经济性间的协同性。以某工业园区微电网为例,验证了所提模型能有效兼顾系统的低碳性和经济性。 展开更多

介绍了电动汽车信号器外壳的注射模设计。塑件成型材料选用科思创PC 2456,采用两板模进行成型。浇注系统中,使用2个扇形冷浇口对模腔进行浇注。塑件注塑工艺参数选定为,喷嘴出口料温为230~250℃;注射速度为200 mm/s;模具温度为80℃;注... 介绍了电动汽车信号器外壳的注射模设计。塑件成型材料选用科思创PC 2456,采用两板模进行成型。浇注系统中,使用2个扇形冷浇口对模腔进行浇注。塑件注塑工艺参数选定为,喷嘴出口料温为230~250℃;注射速度为200 mm/s;模具温度为80℃;注射时间为1~5 s,注射压力为80~100 MPa;保压时间为5~10 s,保压压力为40~60 MPa;背压为2~4 MPa;冷却时间为10~15 s。模具中,针对塑件外壁、内壁的脱模困难,设置了5个斜导柱滑块机构、1个3次抽芯复合机构、1个中抽式内收先抽芯滑块机构、3个斜顶机构、6个推管机构及多根顶针用于塑件的脱模。其中,3次抽芯复合滑块机构中,3个抽芯滑块组合在一起,先通过第一次开模驱动2个滑块联动抽芯,再通过第二次开模驱动3个滑块同步抽芯和移动,较为妥善地解决了塑件侧槽需二次抽芯脱模难题。模具机构选用恰当,紧凑合理,动作达标;与其它设计方案相比,制造成本约降低减少13%,工作效率约提高5%。 展开更多

目的通过了解激光增材技术,设计一种送丝送气一体化机构,并建立相应模型。方法通过对不同送丝送气机构进行对比分析,设计出3种方案,并通过流体模型分析保护气体氩气的流动情况,最终得出最合理的安装位置。第1种方案是采用送丝机构与送... 目的通过了解激光增材技术,设计一种送丝送气一体化机构,并建立相应模型。方法通过对不同送丝送气机构进行对比分析,设计出3种方案,并通过流体模型分析保护气体氩气的流动情况,最终得出最合理的安装位置。第1种方案是采用送丝机构与送气机构对冲的两轴送丝送气设计方案;第2种方案是采用送丝机构与送气机构同路的设计方案;第3种方案是选择两路送气机构与送丝机成夹角对冲的设计方案。结果在第1种方案中,送丝机构与送气机构的对冲会导致气流紊乱,产生气体流动扩散现象,可以明显看到有一个保护气体比较密集的区域。在第2种方案中,当送丝机构与送气机构同路时,在工作过程中有可能出现防氧化效果不够好的情况。在第3种方案中,两路送气机构与送丝机成夹角对冲可以有效控制氩气的流动,提高氩气的利用率,在这里进行丝材的激光熔覆将会起到最大的防氧化保护作用。结论通过对不同送丝送气机构进行对比分析,最终确定三路送气方案的保护效果最佳。 展开更多
