Insight into the experiment and extraction mechanism for separating carbazole from anthracene oil with quaternary ammonium-based deep eutectic solvents

Carbazole is an irreplaceable basic organic chemical raw material and intermediate in industry.The separation of carbazole from anthracene oil by environmental benign solvents is important but still a challenge in chemical engineering.Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as a sustainable green separation solvent have been proposed for the separation of carbazole from model anthracene oil.In this research,three quaternary ammonium-based DESs were prepared using ethylene glycol (EG) as hydrogen bond donor and tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBAC),tetrabutylammonium bromide or choline chloride as hydrogen bond acceptors.To explore their extraction performance of carbazole,the conductor-like screening model for real solvents (COSMO-RS) model was used to predict the activity coefficient at infinite dilution (γ^(∞)) of carbazole in DESs,and the result indicated TBAC:EG (1:2) had the stronger extraction ability for carbazole due to the higher capacity at infinite dilution (C^(∞)) value.Then,the separation performance of these three DESs was evaluated by experiments,and the experimental results were in good agreement with the COSMO-RS prediction results.The TBAC:EG (1:2) was determined as the most promising solvent.Additionally,the extraction conditions of TBAC:EG (1:2) were optimized,and the extraction efficiency,distribution coefficient and selectivity of carbazole could reach up to 85.74%,30.18 and 66.10%,respectively.Moreover,the TBAC:EG (1:2) could be recycled by using environmentally friendly water as antisolvent.In addition,the separation performance of TBAC:EG (1:2) was also evaluated by real crude anthracene,the carbazole was obtained with purity and yield of 85.32%,60.27%,respectively.Lastly,the extraction mechanism was elucidated byσ-profiles and interaction energy analysis.Theoretical calculation results showed that the main driving force for the extraction process was the hydrogen bonding ((N–H...Cl) and van der Waals interactions (C–H...O and C–H...π),which corresponding to the blue and green isosurfaces in IGMH analysis.This work presented a novel method for separating carbazole from crude anthracene oil,and will provide an important reference for the separation of other high value-added products from coal tar. 展开更多

Selected physical and chemical properties of mechanically extracted neem seed oil sourced as a preservative for ligno-cellulose in south-western Nigeria

Juss) trees in Nigeria are currently underutilized. Hence, relevant literature provides only limited information conceming many of the seed oils from this country, especially where it concems the potential applications of these oils as preservatives for ligno-cellulose against bio-deterioration. Using standard procedures therefore, this study was carried out to evaluate and document selected physical and chemical properties of neem seed oil (NSO), mechanically extracted using a cold press at 31.03 N-mm^-2 pressure and a room temperature of 25 ± 2℃. The results show that oil yield was 38.42% with a specific gravity of 0.91 ± 0.01. The amount of acid was 18.24 ± 1.31 mg KOH.g^-1 and that of iodine 93.12 ± 2.01 g-100 g^- 1, while saponification and peroxide values were 172.88 ± 2.06 and 1.42 ± 0.04 mg·g^-1 respectively. The implication of the values obtained, particularly those for the chemical properties, as they concern the potential application of NSO as a preservative for ligno-eellulose, is likely that it may be useful in this regard since the values may support some of the documented anti-microbial properties of the oil, although other physical and chemical properties that may affect this potential are recommended for investigations. Conclusions and other recommendations follow in line with the results of the study. 展开更多

Rechargeable aqueous zinc ion batteries(AZIBs)were considered as one of the most promising candidates for large-scale energy storage due to the merits of high safety and inexpensiveness.As AZIBs cathode material,Mn O_(2)possesses great merits but was greatly hindered due to the sluggish diffusion kinetic of Zn^(2+) during electrochemical operations.Herein,deep Zn^(2+) ions intercalatedδ-Mn O_(2)(Zn-Mn O_(2))was achieved by the in situ electrochemical deposition route,which significantly enhanced the diffusion ability of Zn^(2+) due to the synergistic effects of Zn^(2+) pillars and structural H;O.The resultant Zn-Mn O_(2)based AZIBs delivers a record capacity of 696 m Ah/g(0.5 m Ah/cm^(2))based on the initial mass loading,which is approaching the theoretical capacity of Mn O_(2)with a two-electrons reaction.In-situ Raman studies reveal highly reversible Zn^(2+)ions insertion/extraction behaviors and here the Zn-Mn O_(2)plays the role of a container during the charge–discharge process.Further charge storage mechanism investigations point out the insertion/extraction of Zn^(2+) and H^(+) coincides,and such process is significantly facilitated results from superior interlayered configurations of Zn-Mn O_(2)The excellent electrochemical performance of Zn-Mn O_(2)achieved in this work suggests the deep ions pre-intercalation strategy may aid in the future development of advanced cathodes for AZIBs. 展开更多

Potassium and phosphate were extracted at low temperature by acid hydrolysis process to decompose a new type of associated phosphorus and potassium ore. The main factors affecting the dissolution rate were investigated, such as grinding fineness, the amount of sulfuric acid and fluoride salt, reaction time and temperature, etc. Meanwhile, the effects of various factors on the formation of soluble potassium and phosphate were also discussed. The reaction products and residues were determined by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopic(SEM) analysis and other means. The results showed that the dissolution rates of potassium and phosphorus were 70wt% and 93.7wt%, respectively, under the conditions of a grain size of 95.64wt% lessthan 0.074 mm, 9.78 g·g^(-1) sulfuric acid, 0.5 g·g^(-1) ammonium fluoride, 160 ℃ and a reaction time of 2h. The thermodynamic and chemical reaction mechanism was revealed that the primary reaction could be completed spontaneously in a temperature range of 298-433 K. The increase of reaction temperature had an important influence on ion exchange reaction, which was more conducive to the spontaneous process. The research will open up a new way for efficient use of potassium ore resources. 展开更多

Reversed-phase paper chromatography technique is used for study on the extraction mechanism and sep- aration of rare earth elements.As the stationary phase,chromatographic paper strips are impregnated with a solution of monomyristyl phosphoric acid (MPA) in chloroform.Mineral acids are used as developers. The effect of concentration of acids and/or salts upon R_f has been investigated.According to the re- sults of R_f values for a given rare earth element in various acids,the order of extraction ability is HCl>HNO_3>H_2SO_4.A tetrad effect is clearly observed.for the R_f value of rare earth elements.The effects of other parameters on the R_f value,such as the quantities of extractant retained by the paper and the temperature are also examined.Based on the determination of the molar ratio of MPA to rare earth elements and the number of H^+ ions released in extraction reaction,a reasonable mechanism is proposed.The mutual separation of heavy rare earth elements will be better than that of the light rare earth group because of the larger separation coefficient of the former.A mixture of Ho-Er-Tm-Lu is successfully separated by the present method. 展开更多

An orthogonal test was used to optimize the reaction conditions of roasting zinc oxide ore using(NH_4)_2SO_4. The optimized reaction conditions are defined as an(NH_4)_2SO_4/zinc molar ratio of 1.4:1, a roasting temperature of 440°C, and a thermostatic time of 60 min. The molar ratio of(NH_4)_2SO_4/zinc is the most predominant factor and the roasting temperature is the second significant factor that governs the zinc extraction. Thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis was used for(NH_4)_2SO_4 and zinc mixed in a molar ratio of 1.4:1 at the heating rates of 5, 10, 15, and 20 K·min-1. Two strong endothermic peaks indicate that the complex chemical reactions occur at approximately 290°C and 400°C. XRD analysis was employed to examine the transformations of mineral phases during roasting process. Kinetic parameters, including reaction apparent activation energy, reaction order, and frequency factor, were calculated by the Doyle-Ozawa and Kissinger methods. Since the chemical structure of total glucosides from Cynanchum Auriculatum Royle (CA) is similar to that of the steroline of Marsdenia Condurago Reich, a compound which exhibits antitumor activity, research into the antitumor activity of CA was carried out. Its mechanism of action was studied in vivo with C 57BL/6 mice bearing Lewis lung carcinoma and in vitro, with two mouse tumor cell lines: S180 and EAC. CA inhibited to a certain extent the growth of subcutaneously inoculated Lewis lung carcinoma and its pulmonary metastasis, and augmented the antitumor effect of cyclophosphamide. It showed a killing effect on the EAC and S180 tumor cells of mice in vitro as well. It blocked the tumor cells of solid Lewis lung carcinoma from entering into the S stage from G1 and inhibited DNA synthesis of S180 and EAC tumor cells of mice in vitro. It also markedly increased the number of mononuclear Mφ of tumor bearing mice, stimulated the macrophagic activity of their intraperitoneal Mφ, raised the percentage of ANAE(+) lymphocytes in peripheral blood and enhanced the ABC reaction and antibody formation in tumor bearing mice. 展开更多

Four monoalkyl esters of isoalkylphosphonic acids have been studied for the chromatographic separation of rare earths (RE).The relationship between distribution ratios and acid concentration of the eluants for samarium and ytterbium has been explored.The characteristics of these extractants loaded onto macroreticular poly (methyl methacrylate) resin beads for the separation of lanthanum,cerium,praseodymium and neodymium have been compared.Among the extractants studied,mono(1-methylheptyl) ester of isooctylphosphonic acid was found to be the best for RE separation.The acidity for separation is lower than any known P-containing extractants for the same purpose.For instance,with 1.73 mol·L^(-1) nitric acid as eluent,thulium,ytterbium and lutetium can be separated quantitatively.The extractant-loaded resins possess high column efficiency with good kinetic characteristics.The extraction mechanism was also explored. 展开更多

A coupled reaction-solvent extraction process was used to remove HC1 from a simulated distiller waste. The extraction performances of various extractants and diluents were compared and the apparent basicity ofN235 (a mixture of tertiary amines) in various diluents was determined. The best results were obtained using N235 and isoamyl alcohol as the extractant and diluent, respectively. The yield of HC1 from the coupled extraction was 75% with this extraction system. The mechanisms for the removal of HC1 in both the direct and coupled extractions were investigated. For the coupled extraction, the formation of an RaNHC1 ion-pair complex was involved in the HC1 removal. For the direct extraction, the mechanism involved the formation of hydrogen bonds at high concentrations of HC1. 展开更多

Large amount of high concentration acidic wastewater would be produced in the conversion process of chloride rare earth into oxide rare earth. It was a mixed solution of oxalic acid and hydrochloric acid, so the recycling use was very difficult. The method of liquid-liquid extraction was proposed in this paper to achieve wastewater treatment and reclamation. The mechanism of extraction of oxalic acid from the wastewater with the systems of 50% TOB+45% kerosene and 5% 2-ethyl hexanol was investigated. The composition and structure of the extracted species and the establishment of the mathematical model of the oxalic acid extraction were determined by the use of saturation method, equimolar series method. The results showed that extraction of oxalic acid by TOB was a neutral association extraction, oxalic acid existed mainly in a molecular form in the organic phase, and the extraction combination ratio was 2:1. The duality extraction system composed of extractant TOB and TOC had synergistic extraction effect on oxalic acid and chlorhydric acid, and the extraction distribution ratio was improved greatly. The optimum volume fraction of TOB was 0.6-0.8. 展开更多

In order to clarify the solvent extraction and separation behaviors of rare earths and impurity of Al during the extraction and enrichment of low-concentration leach solution of ion-adsorption rare earth ore,the extraction mechanism and separation behaviors of Nd^(3+)and Al^(3+)in the Nd_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)-AI_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) mixed solution using P507 were studied in this work.The extraction of Nd^(3+)and Al^(3+)follows the cation exchange mechanism.With the increase of the equilibrium pH,β_(Nd/Al) in the extraction of the Nd_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)-Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) mixed solution using P507 is always higher than that in the extraction of single Nd_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) and Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) solutions.It can be attributed to the fact that the extraction of Nd^(3+)using P507 is much faster than that of Al^(3+),and Al^(3+)is more prone to be hydrolyzed at lower pH.β_(Nd/Al) in the extraction of the Nd_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)-Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) mixed solution decreases gradually with the increase of mixing time within the equilibrium pH range of 1.5-1.9.The extraction of Nd^(3+)using P507 is much faster than that of Al^(3+),but the stability of Al^(3+)-Ioaded organic phase is better than that of Nd^(3+)-loaded organic phase,thus Nd^(3+)in the Nd^(3+)-loaded organic phase is gradually replaced by Al^(3+)in the aqueous phase with the increase of mixing time. 展开更多

The solid-phase extraction(SPE) technique applied to the extraction of organic compound was creatively used as the extraction of inorganic gold in the paper.Two types of techniques were proposed and explored,namely the SPE and the liquid–liquid extraction(LLE) of the quaternary ammonium surfactant [cetytrimethyl ammonium bromide(CTMAB),cetyl pyridine bromide(CPB),benzyl dimethyl dodecyl ammonium chloride(BDMDAC),and dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(DTMAC)].The surfactant could react with Au(CN)2^- to form the ionic complex,and the compound could be extracted by SPE column of reversed-phase bonded silica gel.Hence,a new method of SPE was proposed to extract gold with these features of the high selectivity,the reliability,and the simplicity.The experimental result shows that the recovery rate of gold is more than 98 %,and the solid-phase extraction column is not easily damaged and it can be repeatedly used.The new method can be used as the extraction process of gold from alkaline cyanide solution as well.Besides,the paper also puts forward a new process of gold extraction. 展开更多

The result shows that the PEG-(NH4)2SO4 aqueous two-phase system has potential ex-traction capability in small molecular drug separation. In PEG800-(NH4)2SO4 system, the extraction efficiencies (E) of CPZ, PCN and PCNA amount to 92.8%, 74.5% and 74.4%, respectively, with the distribution coefficients (KD) being 25.7, 5.9 and 5.8, correspondingly. In PEG1500-(NH4)2SO4 system, the extraction efficiencies (E) of CPZ, PCN and PCNA are 93.7%, 71.3% and 63.2%, respectively, with distribution coefficients (KD) of 39.6, 6.6 and 5.0, correspondingly. Based on the study on ultraviolet and fluorescence spectra and also distribution behavior of the drugs in PEG-(NH4)2SO4 aqueous two-phase system, extraction mechanism was further proposed that both hydro-gen bond and hydrophobic interaction are involved in extraction. 展开更多
