In this paper, the mechatronic design and maneuverability analysis of a novel robotic shark are presented. To obtain good maneuverability,a barycenter regulating device is designed to assist the posture adjustment at low speeds.Based on the Newton-Euler approach,an analytical dynamic model is established with particular consideration of pectoral fins for threedimensional motions. The hydrodynamic coefficients are computed using computational fluid dynamics(CFD)methods.Oscillation amplitudes and phases are determined by fitting an optimized fish body wave. The performance of the robotic shark is estimated by varying the oscillation frequency and offset angle. The results show that with oscillation frequency increasing, the swimming speed increases linearly. The robotic shark reaches the maximum swimming speed of 1.05 m/s with an oscillation frequency of 1.2 Hz.Furthermore, the turning radius decreases nonlinearly as the offset angle increased. The robotic shark reaches the minimum turning radius of 1.4 times the body length with 0.2 Hz frequency and 12°offset angle. In the vertical plane,as the pectoral fin angle increases, the diving velocity increases nonlinearly with increase rate slowing down. 展开更多

When designing a complex mechatronics system, such as high speed trains, it is relatively difficult to effectively simulate the entire system's dynamic behaviors because it involves multi-disciplinary subsystems. Currently, a most practical approach for multi-disciplinary simulation is interface based coupling simulation method, but it faces a twofold challenge: spatial and time unsynchronizations among multi-directional coupling simulation of subsystems. A new collaborative simulation method with spatiotemporal synchronization process control is proposed for coupling simulating a given complex mechatronics system across multiple subsystems on different platforms. The method consists of 1) a coupler-based coupling mechanisms to define the interfacing and interaction mechanisms among subsystems, and 2) a simulation process control algorithm to realize the coupling simulation in a spatiotemporal synchronized manner. The test results from a case study show that the proposed method 1) can certainly be used to simulate the sub-systems interactions under different simulation conditions in an engineering system, and 2) effectively supports multi-directional coupling simulation among multi-disciplinary subsystems. This method has been successfully applied in China high speed train design and development processes, demonstrating that it can be applied in a wide range of engineering systems design and simulation with improved efficiency and effectiveness. 展开更多

The integrated optimal design of mechanical and control system is discussed in terms of the performance requirement and configuration for the single arm flexible manipulator. By combination of dynamics of flexible structure and control theory, a PD feedback control system, which minimizes the settling time, has been designed. Then, the viable region of poles of the PD dosed-loop control system is decided according to overshoot and the settling time, and an integrated optimal model of structure and control of single arm manipulator is presented. Finally, the parameters of structure and control system are simultaneously optimized with respect to objective function induding the moment of inertia and the control effort of system. 展开更多

The model-driven architecture(MDA)/model-based systems engineering(MBSE)approach,in combination with the real-time Unified Modeling Language(UML)/Systems Modeling Language(SysML),unscented Kalman filter(UKF)algorithm, and hybrid automata, are specialized to conveniently analyze, design, and implement controllers of autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs).The dynamics and control structure of AUVs are adapted and integrated with the specialized features of the MDA/MBSE approach as follows. The computation-independent model is defined by the specification of a use case model together with the UKF algorithm and hybrid automata and is used in intensive requirement analysis. The platform-independent model(PIM)is then built by specializing the real-time UML/SysML’s features, such as the main control capsules and their dynamic evolutions, which reflect the structures and behaviors of controllers. The detailed PIM is subsequently converted into the platform-specific model by using open-source platforms to quickly implement and deploy AUV controllers. The study ends with a trial trip and deployment results for a planar trajectory-tracking controller of a miniature AUV with a torpedo shape. 展开更多

The Sit-to-Stand (STS) is an activity most people perform numerous times daily. Standing up deals with the transition from two stabilized postures, namely seated to standing, with movement of all body segments except the feet. During the STS the body's Center of Gravity (COG) is moved upward from a sitting position to a standing position without losing balance and requiring a good coordination of many muscles. Three main phases of the STS movement can be recognized. One begins to stand up by inclining the upper body forward, which moves body mass toward the feet in order to maintain balance after lift-off. Prior to leaving the chair, hip and knee extensor muscles are activated to provide antigravity support for these joints, this action is commonly referred to as "weight shift". Finally; after leaving the chair, the leg and trunk joints are straightened to achieve upright stance. The STS task can be considered of major importance for impaired and elderly people to achieve minimal mo- bility and independence. In this paper we detail a procedure for the design of assisting devices to be used for the STS. In par- ticular, an experimental procedure is described firstly to track and record point trajectories and the orientation of the trunk during the STS. This analysis is then used to get information for the design of assisting devices. A proposal and simulation results are presented for a novel mechatronic system. In particular, for the case under study experimental tests are used to drive the actua- tion system for the reported simulation. A functional mechatronic scheme is then proposed to control the device during its operation. 展开更多

Most of the XY positioning stages proposed in previous studies are mainly designed by considering only a single performance indicator of the stage. As a result, the other performance indicators are relatively weak. In this study, a 2-degree-of-freedom linear compliant positioning stage (LCPS) is developed by mechatronic design to balance the interacting performance indicators and realize the desired positioning stage. The key parameters and the coupling of the structure and actuators are completely considered in the design. The LCPS consists of four voice coil motors (VCMs), which are conformally designed for compactness, and six spatial leaf spring parallelograms. These parallelograms are serially connected for a large travel range and a high out-of-plane payload capacity. The mechatronic model is established by matrix structural analysis for structural modeling and by Kirchhof^s law for the VCMs. The sensitivities of the key parameters are analyzed, and the design parameters are subsequently determined. The analytical model of the stage is confirmed by experiments. The stage has a travel range of 4.4 mm 7.0 mm and a 0.16% area ratio of workspace to the outer dimension of the stage. The values of these performance indicators are greater than those of any existing stage reported in the literature. The closed-loop bandwidth is 9.5 Hz in both working directions. The stage can track a circular trajectory with a radius of 1.5 mm, with 40 Ixm error and a resolution of lower than 3 ~tm. The results of payload tests indicate that the stage has at least 20 kg out- of-plane payload capacity. 展开更多
