The numerical simulation of melting process of a regenerative aluminum melting furnace was presented using hybrid programming method of FLUENT UDF and FLUENT scheme based on the heat balance test. Burner effects on melting process of aluminum melting furnaces were investigated by taking optimization regulations into account. The change rules of melting time on influence factors are achieved. Melting time decreases with swirl number, vertical angle of burner, air preheated temperature or natural gas flow; melting time firstly decreases with horizontal angle between burners or air-fuel ratio, then increases; melting time increases with the height of burner.展开更多
The feasibility and kinetics of lead recovery from the slag of traditional lead melting furnace using chloride leaching were investigated.The effects of operating parameters such as leaching time,NaCl concentration,Fe...The feasibility and kinetics of lead recovery from the slag of traditional lead melting furnace using chloride leaching were investigated.The effects of operating parameters such as leaching time,NaCl concentration,FeCl3concentration,liquid/solid ratio,stirring rate,temperature,and particle size on recovery of lead were studied and the optimization was done through the response surface methodology(RSM)based on central composite design(CCD)model.The optimum conditions were achieved as follows:leaching time60min,80°C,stirring rate800r/min,NaCl concentration200g/L,FeCl3concentration80g/L,liquid/solid ratio16,and particle size less than106μm.More than96%of lead was effectively recovered in optimum condition.Based on analysis of variance,the reaction temperature,liquid/solid ratio,and NaCl concentration were determined as the most effective parameters on leaching process,respectively.Kinetics study revealed that chloride leaching of galena is a first-order reaction and the diffusion through solid reaction product and chemical reaction control the mechanism.The activation energy of chloride leaching of galena was determined using Arrhenius model as27.9kJ/mol.展开更多
To reduce the fuel consumption and emissions and also enhance the molten aluminum quality, a mathematical model with user-developed melting model and burning capacity model, were established according to the features ...To reduce the fuel consumption and emissions and also enhance the molten aluminum quality, a mathematical model with user-developed melting model and burning capacity model, were established according to the features of melting process of regenerative aluminum melting furnaces. Based on validating results by heat balance test for an aluminum melting furnace, CFD (computational fluid dynamics) technique, in association with statistical experimental design were used to optimize the melting process of the aluminum melting furnace. Four important factors influencing the melting time, such as horizontal angle between burners, height-to-radius ratio, natural gas mass flow and air preheated temperature, were identified by PLACKETT-BURMAN design. A steepest descent method was undertaken to determine the optimal regions of these factors. Response surface methodology with BOX-BEHNKEN design was adopted to further investigate the mutual interactions between these variables on RSD (relative standard deviation) of aluminum temperature, RSD of furnace temperature and melting time. Multiple-response optimization by desirability function approach was used to determine the optimum melting process parameters. The results indicate that the interaction between the height-to-radius ratio and horizontal angle between burners affects the response variables significantly. The predicted results show that the minimum RSD of aluminum temperature (12.13%), RSD of furnace temperature (18.50%) and melting time (3.9 h) could be obtained under the optimum conditions of horizontal angle between burners as 64°, height-to-radius ratio as 0.3, natural gas mass flow as 599 m3/h, and air preheated temperature as 639 ℃. These predicted values were further verified by validation experiments. The excellent correlation between the predicted and experimental values confirms the validity and practicability of this statistical optimum strategy.展开更多

In metallurgical processing,effective and reliable electromagnetic stirring of the melt is one of the prerequisites for higher productivity and improved process performance.Reasonable structure and electrical paramete...In metallurgical processing,effective and reliable electromagnetic stirring of the melt is one of the prerequisites for higher productivity and improved process performance.Reasonable structure and electrical parameters of the stirrer are greatly significant on improving and enhancing the stirring quality.In this paper,ANSYS software is used to research the effect of stirrer parameters on magnetic field distribution in aluminum melting furnace.The results show that magnetic flux density distributes as two humps at the direction(X)of metal length.Magnetic flux density distributes as a hump at the direction(Z)of metal width,reaches its maximum at the pool center and decays gradually toward the edge.It is also demonstrated that magnetic flux density increases by 2.65mT,as kilo-ampere-turns increase by 2.The center distance between two coils changes the distribution of magnetic flux density rather than its magnitude,while the distance from coils to the bottom of molten aluminum changes the magnitude of magnetic flux density but no change of distribution.展开更多

The grain miniature method which improves the ductility and the toughness simultaneously under high strength is the miniature of the casting microstructure. In this paper, the Nb which affects the austenite grain miniature is added by 0.00%, 0.03% and 0.06% in this steel and the ingot is manufactured in a vacuum induction melting furnace (VIM). The casting microstructure and the mechanical property of the maraging steel according to Nb contents are analyzed by conducting the solution annealing and the age hardening after hot rolling. In this result, a specimen containing 0.03% Nb is most miniature. When it does the long time age hardening, the precipitation estimated as the carbide is appeared. The mechanical properties are excellent if a specimen containing 0.06% Nb does the age hardening during 8 h in 482℃.展开更多
The change of bubbles and the position of the tuyere in an oxygen coal combustion melting and separating furnace affect the flow and splash behavior of the molten pool.To analyze this problem further,a three-dimension...The change of bubbles and the position of the tuyere in an oxygen coal combustion melting and separating furnace affect the flow and splash behavior of the molten pool.To analyze this problem further,a three-dimensional numerical simulation method was used to explore the behavior and change of the flow field inside the molten pool during double-row tuyere injection.In addition,the arrangement of the tuyere was changed for a more detailed understanding of the internal phase distribution and splashing in a molten pool.The results indicated that under three-dimensional numerical simulation conditions,bubbles rise after leaving the tuyere and break on the surface of the molten pool,which results in certain fluctuations in the nearby melt.During the injection process of the tuyere,the meteorological accumulation in the middle part of the molten pool formed part of the foam slag because of the influence of surface tension.When the layout of the upper and lower exhaust tuyeres was changed from staggered to symmetrical,or when the spacing of the upper and lower exhaust tuyeres changed,it had an effect on the phase distribution and splash behavior.展开更多
The development of heat recovery methods for dry granulation processes from blast furnace slag in the iron and steel industry is limited because of the high consumption of granulation energy during these processes.To ...The development of heat recovery methods for dry granulation processes from blast furnace slag in the iron and steel industry is limited because of the high consumption of granulation energy during these processes.To determine the factors that influence the diameter of granulated particles,a paraffin test platform for gas quenching granulation was established.The influences of air velocity,air flow rate,liquid mass flow rate,and liquid pipe diameter on the final particle size and mass distribution were studied.Experimental results showed that the final particle size decreased(from 1.07 mm to 0.81 mm) with increasing air velocity(from 28.3 m/s to 113.2 m/s).However,when air velocity was higher than 60 m/s,its influence on particle diameter decreased significantly.The experimental data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics software,which indicated that the effect of air velocity on particle diameter was the most significant,followed by those of air flow and liquid pipe diameter.The effect of liquid mass flow was the least significant.展开更多
