The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of acute exercise on short-term memory improvement.The computerized literature searches using electronic databases and examinations of reference lists from...The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of acute exercise on short-term memory improvement.The computerized literature searches using electronic databases and examinations of reference lists from relevant studies yielded six studies meeting our inclusionary criteria.In a total of six studies,16 standardized regression coefficient effect sizes(ESs)were calculated to be meta-analyzed.The meta-analyses showed a statistically significant increase in short-term memory improvement across both the exercise and non-exercise control groups in trials 1-5[ES=0.96,95%CI(0.95,0.97),P<0.001].However,there was no significant subgroup difference between exercise and control groups(Q_(b)=0.40,df=1,P=0.53).Our meta-analytic review provides suggestive evidence that an acute bout of exercise prior to learning does not result in short-term memory improvement to a greater extent than a non-exercise control.Additional research is needed to further evaluate whether acute exercise enhances long-term memory via enhanced learning and/or post-learning mechanisms.展开更多
Artificial photonic synapses have set off a new upsurge for mimicking a series of neural activities in recent years.In particular,the investigation of learning and memory behaviors with pressure or emotion and corresp...Artificial photonic synapses have set off a new upsurge for mimicking a series of neural activities in recent years.In particular,the investigation of learning and memory behaviors with pressure or emotion and corresponding mechanisms is currently the focus of more attention.Herein,a hippocampus-inspired device based on MoS_(2) for illumination time encoding is fabricated,in which the encryption technology is employed for data security.In addition,the pressureinduced memory behaviors with full memory function(memory trace)over time such as encoding,storage and retrieval are demonstrated,resulting from the decreasing positive photocurrent of the MoS;devices.The proposed mechanism of the memory effect when exposed to the light is elucidated in detail.Moreover,the effect of stress hormone on memory behavior is displayed via different illumination time periods and light intensities.These results indicate the potential application of MoS_(2) devices in artificial neural network.展开更多
In this paper,a family of rate-compatible(RC) low-density parity-check(LDPC) convolutional codes can be obtained from RC-LDPC block codes by graph extension method.The resulted RC-LDPC convolutional codes,which are de...In this paper,a family of rate-compatible(RC) low-density parity-check(LDPC) convolutional codes can be obtained from RC-LDPC block codes by graph extension method.The resulted RC-LDPC convolutional codes,which are derived by permuting the matrices of the corresponding RC-LDPC block codes,are systematic and have maximum encoding memory.Simulation results show that the proposed RC-LDPC convolutional codes with belief propagation(BP) decoding collectively offer a steady improvement on performance compared with the block counterparts over the binary-input additive white Gaussian noise channels(BI-AWGNCs).展开更多
