However, such an analysis may easily neglect the source property of an individual DMU, meaning that the differences among various DMUs derive from different environmental backgrounds, e.g. environment variables such as economic civilization, laws and regulations, and political backgrounds. Applying the Metafrontier model can overcome the barriers resulting from the environment variables, and it can analyze and measure the differences among various DMUs which have different source properties. It can also be used for measuring the difference between each group of DMU and all DMUs. Therefore, this study adopts the DEA method, assuming variable returns to scale to evaluate and comparatively analyze the business performance of life insurance industries in Taiwan and China's Mainland based on "BBC input orientation". When evaluating the business performance, the operating management echelon is affected by uncontrollable external environment variables. Thus, this study applies the Four-Stage Data Envelopment Analysis to discuss the impact of environment variables on business performance and re-measures the business efficiency of life insurance industries in Taiwan and China's Mainland after adjusting the input variables. The demonstration period adopted by this study is from 2003 to 2005, and the research subject comprises 43 companies in Taiwan and China's Mainland, among which, there are 19 companies in Taiwan and 24 companies in China's Mainland, and there are 129 sets of sample data. It is assumed that the discount rate is ? This study examines the efficiency of investment trust companies(ITCs)from 2011 to 2020 using a meta-frontier two-stage network data envelopment analysis(DEA)based on the directional distance function(DDF).We improved...This study examines the efficiency of investment trust companies(ITCs)from 2011 to 2020 using a meta-frontier two-stage network data envelopment analysis(DEA)based on the directional distance function(DDF).We improved the accuracy of the efficiency measurement and added a network-based ranking component to rank the topperforming entities.In the group-specific technology assessment,foreign ITCs excel in investment efficiency.Meanwhile,in the meta-technology assessment,domestic ITCs outperform foreign ITCs in terms of both investment and operational efficiencies.Group-specific technology efficiency scores were found to be lower than or equal to the meta-technology efficiency scores for both the operational and investment stages.Based on the network-based ranking approach,Yuan Ta,a domestic ITC that ranked fourth in the operational stage and first in the investment stage,can be used as a reliable benchmark.This study will enable practitioners to gain a better understanding of the performance of ITCs operating under heterogeneous technologies.展开更多

First,we explore the regional and time heterogeneity of environmental efficiency. Then,we compare the technological gap ratio in different regions and years. Lastly,we analyze the technological and management potential in different regions. We determine that the gap between environmental efficiency under group frontier and metafrontier widened from 2009 to 2012,indicating that environmental efficiency varies in different regions in China. The technology gap ratio has decreased in the four regions. This result confirms that the regional heterogeneity of environmental efficiency has increased. Thus,strengthening environmental management is crucial. China must improve green innovation to decrease energy consumption and abate carbon emissions.展开更多
