A generalized yield criterion is proposed based on the metai plastic deformation mechanics and the fundamental formula in theory of plasticity. Using the generalized yield criterion, the reason is explained that Mises yield criterion and Tresca yield criterion do not completely match with experimental data. It has been shown that the yield criteria of ductile metals depend not only on the quadratic invariant of the deviatoric stress tensor J2, but also on the cubic invariant of the deviatoric stress tensor J3 and the ratio of the yield stress in pure shear to the yield stress in uniaxial tension κ/σs. The reason that Mises yield criterion and Tresca yield criterion are not in good agreement with the experimental data is that the effect of J3 and κ/σs is neglected. 展开更多

Carbides in a series of cold-welding weld metals were studied by means of SEM, TEM and EPMA, and the forming mechanism of carbide was proposed according to their distribution and morphology. Due to their different carbide-forming tendency, Nb and Ti could combine with C to form particulate carbide in liquid weld metai and depleted the carbon content in matrix, while V induced the carbide precipitated along grain boundary. But too much Nb or Ti alone resulted in coarse carbide and poor strengthened matrix. When suitabie amount of Nb, Ti and V coexisted in weld metai, both uniformly distributed particulate carbide and well strengthened matrix could be achieved. It was proposed that the carbide nucleated on the oxlde which dispersed in liquid weld metai, and then grew into multi-layer complex carbide particies by epitaxial grovvth. At different sites, carbide particies may present as different morphologies. 展开更多

High strain rate superplastic deformation behavior of powder metallurgy (PM) processed 17 vol. pet SiCp/2024 Al composite sheet after heat treatment was investigated over a range of temperature from 753 to 833 K. At 813 K, a maximum elongation of 259% was discovered at a strain rate of 10-1 s-1. The activation energy was closed to that for lattice diffusion of Al and increased at temperature upon incipient melting temperature. The mechanism of superplastic deformation for present composites was attributed to lattice diffusion controlled grain boundary sliding. 展开更多
