Ceramic coatings play a keyrole in extending the service life of materials in aerospaceandenergy fields byprotectingmaterials from high temperature,oxidation,corrosion and thermal stress.Non-oxide and high entropy ceramics are new emerging coating materials which have been researched and developed in recent years.Compared with traditional oxide ceramics,non-oxide ceramics have better high temperature stability,oxidation resistance and erosion resistance.These characteristics make non-oxide ceramics perform well in extreme environments.It is particularly noteworthy that the non-oxide high entropy ceramic is a uniform solid solution composed of at least four or fiveatoms.Their unique structure and outstanding propertiesshow great potential application in the field of coating.In this paper,the researches aboutregulating microstructure,preparation technology and properties of nitride and its high entropy system,carbide and its high entropy system and boride and its high entropy system in coating field are summarized,and their future development and prospects are prospected. 展开更多

This paper concentrates on the development of glasses with self-cleaning surfaces exhibiting high water contact angles. In this study, we prepared super-hydrophobic nano-ceramic coated glass based on titania & silica using simple sol-gel & dip coating methods and studied the best composition of the coatings by altering ratios of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP)/tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) with different homogenizing agents. We characterized the coatings by surface roughness measurement, percentage of optical transmission, static contact angle, near-infrared (NIR) transmission, and diffuse reflectance. The fabrication of coatings on glass substrates played an important role in increasing the water contact angle of about 95° and visible & NIR transmission of about 90%. We compared our modified glass substrate with commercial low emissivity (Low E) glass using X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, which showed pure amorphous surface claiming excellent wettability and thus the prepared glass substrate could have a variety of applications in different fields. 展开更多

Surface metallization of glass fiber(GF)/polyetheretherketone(PEEK)[GF/PEEK] is conducted by coating copper using electroplating and magnetron sputtering and the properties are determined by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD).The coating bonding strength is assessed by pull-out tests and scribing in accordance with GB/T 9286-1998.The results show that the Cu coating with a thickness of 30 μm deposited on GF/PEEK by magnetron sputtering has lower roughness, finer grain size, higher crystallinity, as well as better macroscopic compressive stress,bonding strength, and electrical conductivity than the Cu coating deposited by electroplating. 展开更多

A highly stable zinc metal anode modified with a fluorinated graphite nanosheets(FGNSs)coating was designed.The porous structure of the coating layer effectively hinders lateral mass transfer of Zn ions and suppresses dendrite growth.Moreover,the high electronegativity exhibited by fluorine atoms creates an almost superhydrophobic solid-liquid interface,thereby reducing the interaction between solvent water and the zinc substrate.Consequently,this leads to a significant inhibition of hydrogen evolution corrosion and other side reactions.The modified anode demonstrates exceptional cycling stability,as symmetric cells exhibit sustained cycling for over 1400 h at a current density of 5 mA/cm^(2).Moreover,the full cells with NH_(4)V_(4)O_(10)cathode exhibit an impressive capacity retention rate of 92.2%after undergoing 1000 cycles. 展开更多

The ballistic resistance and failure pattern of a bi-layer alumina 99.5%-aluminium alloy 1100-H12 target against steel 4340 ogival nosed projectile has been explored in the present experimental cum numerical study.In the experimental investigation,damage induced in the ceramic layer has been quantified in terms of number of cracks developed and failure zone dimensions.The resultant damage in the backing layer has been studied with variation in the bulge and perforation hole in the backing layer with the varying incidence velocity.The discussion of the experimental results has been further followed by three dimensional finite element computations using ABAQUS/Explicit finite code to investigate the behaviour of different types of bi-layer targets under multi-hit projectile impact.The JH-2 constitutive model has been used to reproduce the behaviour of alumina 99.5%and JC constitutive model has been used for steel 4340 and aluminium alloy 1100-H12.The total energy dissipation has been noted to be of lesser magnitude in case of sub-sequential impact in comparison to simultaneous impact of two projectiles.The distance between the impact points of two projectiles also effected the ballistic resistance of bi-layer target.The ballistic resistance of single tile ceramic front layer and four tile ceramic of equivalent area found to be dependent upon the boundary conditions provided to the target. 展开更多

This work adopts a multi⁃step etching⁃heat treatment strategy to prepare porous silicon microsphere com⁃posite with Sb⁃Sn surface modification and carbon coating(pSi/Sb⁃Sn@C),using industrial grade SiAl alloy micro⁃spheres as a precursor.pSi/Sb⁃Sn@C had a 3D structure with bimetallic(Sb⁃Sn)modified porous silicon micro⁃spheres(pSi/Sb⁃Sn)as the core and carbon coating as the shell.Carbon shells can improve the electronic conductivi⁃ty and mechanical stability of porous silicon microspheres,which is beneficial for obtaining a stable solid electrolyte interface(SEI)film.The 3D porous core promotes the diffusion of lithium ions,increases the intercalation/delithia⁃tion active sites,and buffers the volume expansion during the intercalation process.The introduction of active met⁃als(Sb⁃Sn)can improve the conductivity of the composite and contribute to a certain amount of lithium storage ca⁃pacity.Due to its unique composition and microstructure,pSi/Sb⁃Sn@C showed a reversible capacity of 1247.4 mAh·g^(-1) after 300 charge/discharge cycles at a current density of 1.0 A·g^(-1),demonstrating excellent rate lithium storage performance and enhanced electrochemical cycling stability. 展开更多

Spherical indentation of ceramic coatings with metallic interlayer was performed by means of axisymmetric finite element analysis (FEA). Two typical ceramic coatings with relatively high and low elastic modulus deposited on aluminum alloy and carbon steel were considered. The fracture mechanics of the ceramic coatings mechanisms due to occurrence of surface ring cracks extending traverse the coating thickness under spherical indentation are investigated within the framework of linear fracture mechanics. The J-integral associated to such cracks was computed. The evolution of J-integral vs the crack length and the indentation depth was studied. The effects of the interlayer, the coating and the substrate on the J-integral evolution were discussed. The results show that a suitable metallic interlayer can improve the fracture resistance of the coating systems under the same indentation conditions through reducing the J-integral. 展开更多

Electric-spark deposition (ESD) was adopted for depositing a Ti( CN) -based ceramic coating on the TC4 titanium alloy substrate using a laboratory-developed electric-spark deposition system, a nitrogen-sealed atmosphere and graphite electrode. The surface morphology, microstructure, interfacial behavior between the coatings and substrate, phase and element composition of the coatings were investigated by scanning electron microscope ( SEM ) , X-ray diffraction ( XRD ) , X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy ( XPS ) and Auger electron spectroscopy ( AES ) . Microhardness profile was measured with a Vickers microhardness tester. The results show that metallurgical bond between the coating and substrate is realized and the phase of coatings are made up of Ti( CN ) spherocrystal and dendritic crystal, TiV and C. Ti( CN) ceramic particles, which is in-situ synthesized by the reaction among titanium from the substrate, carbon from the graphite electrode and nitrogen from the shielding nitrogen gas, is about 600 mn and distributes dispersively among the coatings. Microharduess profile falls off with the coatings thickness increasing and the highest microhardness values of the superficial coating could be up to 1 496HV, which is six times more than that of the substrate. 展开更多

Various combinations of indenter radius-coating thickness ratios and interlayer thickness-coating thickness ratios were used in the modeling. The effects of the interlayer, the coating and the substrate on the indentation behavior, such as the radial stress distribution along the coating surface as well as the coating interface, and the plastic deformation zone evolution in the substrate were investigated in connection with the above mentioned ratios. The comparative experimental studies of radiation properties of both matrices without and with ceramic coating (alumina) were carried out. Measurement was conducted in different spectral ranges. The experimental results were compared with theoretical calculations. It was shown that the integral radiation efficiency of the matrix with ceramic coating was comparable with radiation efficiency of the matrix without any coating in the wide range of the firing rate and surpassed it on 30% - 40% at firing rate above 50 W/cm2. 展开更多

The Ni-based alloy composite coatings reinforced by nanostructured Al2O3-40%TiO2 multiphase ceramic particles were prepared on the surface of 7005 aluminum alloy by plasma spray technology. The microstructure and tribological properties of the composite coatings were researched. The results show that the composite coatings mainly consist of γ-Ni, α-Al2O3, γ-Al2O3 and rutile-TiO2 etc, and exhibit lower friction coefficients and wear losses than the Ni-based alloy coatings at different loads and speeds. The composite coating bears low contact stress at 3 N and its wear mechanism is micro-cutting wear. As loads increase to 6-12 N, the contact stress is higher than the elastic limit stress of worn surface, and the wear mechanisms change into multi-plastic deformation wear, micro-brittle fracture wear and abrasive wear. With the increase of speeds, the contact temperature of worn surface increases. The composite coating experiences multi-plastic deformation wear, fatigue wear and adhesive wear. 展开更多

Large-area in-situ synthesized TiB2(TiB, Fe2B)—Fe metal-ceramic composite coating has been fabricated on medium carbon steel by laser cladding with the optimal laser parameters and overlapping coefficient. The bonding interfaces between the cladding layer and the matrix and among different tracks are excellent. Microanalysis on the cladding layer shows that the morphology is a little different from each other and the element distribution and the mechanical properties are unanimous in each track while the mechanical property of the cladding layer shows a gradual change from the surface to the matrix. The in-situ separating out thin ceramic phases in the coating contribute to the improving of its properties greatly. 展开更多

Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) ceramic coatings were fabricated in a silicate-based electrolyte with the addition of potassium fluorozirconate (K2ZrF6) on 6063 aluminum alloy, and the effects of current density on microstructure and properties of the PEO coatings were studied. It was found that pore density of the coatings decreased with increasing the current density. The tribological and hardness tests suggested that the ceramic coating produced under the current density of 15 A/dm2showed the best mechanical property, which matched well with the phase analysis. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization curves proved that the coating obtained under 15 A/dm2 displayed the best anti-corrosion property, which was directly connected with morphologies of coatings. 展开更多

ZrO2 and (Ce-TZP)+Al2O3 ceramic substrates. and further irradiated with pulsed excimer (Xeno chloride) laser pulses. The laser energy density was varied from 0.21 to 0.81 J / cm2 to optimize bending strength. For ZrO2 ceramic, it was found that the strength increases from 530 to 753 MPa at 0.51 J / cm2 irradiation. For Al2O3 and (Ce-TZP)+ Al2O3 the fracture strength also increases in varying degree. The causes of strength increment were discussed. 展开更多

Al2O3-13%TiO2 (mass fraction) coatings, prepared by laser cladding on nickel-based alloy, were heated using high frequency induction sources. The coating microstructure and the interface between bond coating and ceramic coating were characterized by SEM, XRD and EDS. The results show that two-layer substructure exists in the ceramic coating: one layer evolving from fully melted region where the sintered grains grow fully; another layer resembling the liquid-phase-sintered structure consisting of three-dimensional net where the melted Al2O3 particles are embedded in the TiO2-rich matrix. The mechanism of the two-layer substructure formation is also explained in terms of the melting and flattening behavior of the powders during laser cladding processing. The spinel compounds NiAl2O4 and acicular compounds Cr2O3 are discovered in the interface between bond coating and ceramic coating. It proves that the chemical reactions in the laser cladding process will significantly enhance the coating adhesion. 展开更多

The sprayed particles of metallic and cermet wires were collected to analyze the atomization state of the particles in arc spraying forming, the microstructure and properties of metallic and ceramic coatings were investigated and compared. Particle size analyzer was used for quantifying particle size. The XRD, SEM and optical microscope(OM) were used to analyze the phase composition and microstructure of the particles and coatings. From the experimental results, some difference of particle characteristics was established between the spraying metallic and ceramic cored wires, and the microstructure and properties of coatings depend strongly on the particles behaviors. The result shows that Fe-TiB2/Al2O3 composite coating has a high potential for abrasive wear applications. 展开更多

A solid-state sodium metal battery has cut a striking figure in next-generation large-scale energy storage technology on account of high safety,high energy density,and low cost.Nevertheless,the large interfacial resistance and sodium dendrite growth originating from the poor interface contact seriously hinder its practical application.Herein,a modified ultrasound welding was proposed to atomically bond Na anodes and Au-metalized Na_(3)Zr_(2)Si_(2)PO_(12) electrolytes associated with the in situ formation of Na–Au alloy interlayers.Thereupon,intimate Na_(3)Zr_(2)Si_(2)PO_(12)-Au/Na interfaces with a low interfacial resistance(~23Ωcm^(2))and a strong dendrite inhibition ability were constructed.The optimized Na symmetric battery can cycle steadily for more than 900 h at 0.3 mA cm^(-2) under a low overpotential(<50 mV)of Na electroplating/stripping and deliver a high critical current density of 0.8 mAcm^(-2) at room temperature.By incorporating the above interface into the solid-state Na metal battery,taking three-dimensional Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3) as the cathode,the full battery offers a high energy density of 291 Wh kg^(-1) at a high power density of 1860Wkg^(-1).A pouch-type solid-state sodium metal full battery based on a ceramic electrolyte was assembled for the first time,and it lit a 3 V LED lamp.Such a strategy of the ultrasound welding metalized solid-state electrolyte/Na interface by engineering the Na-Au interlayer would pave a new pathway to engineer a low-resistance and highly stable interface for high-energy/density solid-state sodium metal batteries. 展开更多
