A Tentative Study of the Relationship between Metaphor and Metonymy

This paper tentatively explores the relationship between metaphor and metonymy. Owing to advances in technology,significant developments have been made in terms of understanding language structure and use. Though significant differences exist in the way metaphors and metonymies are constructed and used, the two phenomena are intimately intertwined such that separating them is not only difficult, but also unnecessary.

对于隐喻和转喻这两种语言修饰手段,仅用下定义的方法是不能从根本上解释两者的区别的。作为语言和人们思维自然发展的产物,只有从认知角度才能对隐喻和转喻进行真正的甄别。在从认知域数量和认知加工级别对两者进行区别时,可采用隐性和显性相似性的概念。
