Discussion on Professor Ba Jigemude's Research Methods of the History of Mongolian Medicine

The research methods of the history of Mongolian medicine refer to the general and special methods used in the understanding and research of the history of Mongolian medicine,as well as the methods of expression and compilation of the research achievements of the history of Mongolian medicine.There are not only analysis and generalization,abstractness and concreteness,deduction and induction,historical and logical methods,but also traditional philology methods such as textual research,exegesis and collation,as well as new methods such as field investigation method,empirical method,measurement method,comparison method,and oral account method.In the actual research process,a variety of methods are often used comprehensively.This paper mainly discusses the methods used by Professor Ba Jigemude in the study of the history of Mongolian medicine,and uses specific cases to analyze and summarize the formation and development of the history of ancient traditional medicine.

Comparison between Response Spectrum and Time History Method of Dynamic Analysis of Concrete Gravity Dam

Dam structure built to store water has failed with resulting loss of life, social, economic and environmental losses due to seismic vibrations. These vibrations are dynamic in nature. These vibrations must be reduced with proper application of engineering principles and for estimating the behavior of concrete gravity dam dynamic analysis plays an extraordinary role. This paper presents the dynamic time history analysis and response spectrum method of a concrete gravity dam by using STAAD-PRO. Here Finite Element Approach is used to analyze the dam. A concrete gravity dam model is prepared in STAAD-PRO to perform the time history analysis and response spectrum analysis and a comparison is done between both these methods. Concrete gravity dam is a large structure which retains a very large amount of water on its upstream side and it is very crucial for a dam to survive against vibrations of earthquake. So it is a matter of study to check the behaviour of a dam during and after the application of the loading.

A REVIEW OF THE HISTORY OF CHINA'S MACHINE DESIGN METHODS AND THE PROSPECT

A probability-consistent method based on practical ground surface motion

In this paper, a new method for seismic hazard analysis, the probability-consistent method based on practical ground surface motion is proposed. Time histories on ground surface in the method correspond to earthquakes occurring at potential sources around sites. So of the envelope parameter, response spectrum, peak ground acceleration are of physical sense. Neglecting the response of site soil layers, the method is the same as routine probability-consistent method. The natural seismic acceleration time histories can be used for input wave directly. Generating ground motion is an approximation under lack of data of strong motion. Along with accumulating of the strong motion data around sites, we can describe the seismic environment more objectively.

Observational Accuracy of Sunrise and Sunset Times in the Sixth Century China

The Daye Calendar was compiled in AD 597 in the Sui Dynasty. We investigate the records of sunrise and sunset times on the 24 solar-term days in the calendar. By converting the ancient Chinese time units, Chen, Ke and Fen to hour, minute and second, and carrying out a comparison between the ancient records and values computed with modem astronomical theory, we find that the accuracy of solar measurements in the Sui period is remarkably high： for sunrise times, the average absolute deviation is 3.63 min （this value can be further reduced to 3.03 min when erroneous data are excluded）, and for sunset times it is 3.48 min. We also find that the observed sunrise and sunset times are strictly symmetrically distributed with respect to both the Winter Solstice and the Summer Solstice, with their deviations showing a similar symmetrical distribution as well. We give a discussion on the date of observation, the feature of the data, and possible reasons of the deviation.
