This threw light on the extent of damage and alteration of water quality in Port Harcourt metropolis as a result of the proliferation of petrol service stations especially the condition of ground and nearby surface water. This serves as a useful tool to government and regulatory authorities for planning especially due to lack of central water supply system in Port Harcourt metropolis. The parameters studied were sampled, measured and analyzed using in situ and other standard methods. Remarkable results above permissible limits of interest for physicochemical parameter analysis revealed pH values from 4.6 to 6.8, electrical conductivity from 0.002 µS/cm to 0.42 µS/cm, salinity from 3 ppm to 4050 ppm, and temperatures from 19.9˚C to 32.6˚C. Total dissolved solids (TDS) varied from 7 ppm to 1000 ppm, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) from 0.167 mg/L to 2.167 mg/L, chemical oxygen demand (COD) from 0.257 mg/L to 3.253 mg/L, and dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations from 1.70 mg/L to 4.30 mg/L. Specifically, water samples from NNPC Filling Station (Choba) and Eneka Pond displayed “Poor” water quality with WQI values of 112.003 and 112.076, respectively. Similarly, ALLTEC Filling Station (Eneka) and TOTAL Filling Station (Rumuomasi) had “Poor” water quality with WQI values of 173.707 and 180.946, respectively. In contrast, Excelsis Filling Station (Akpajo) demonstrated “Good” water quality with a WQI of 85.2072, while Total Filling Stations (Slaughter) and Choba River revealed “unsuitable for drinking” water quality with WQI values of 552.461 and 654.601, respectively. Slaughter River also indicated very poor water quality with a WQI of 442.024. The physicochemical and nutrient analyses of the water samples showed that activities of the filling stations within the study area may have polluted groundwater in the environment posing poor aesthetics and great health risk to consumers of the water bodies. The findings underscore the need for immediate remediation efforts and stricter regulatory measures to protect water quality. The study concluded that surface and groundwater near petrol service stations in Port Harcourt are unfit for drinking and irrigation purposes without adequate treatment.展开更多

As a new-style construction method, there are several specific risks involved in the construction process. Based on the test section of Sanyuanqiao station on Beijing metro line 10, and combined with the existing methods of risk identification at present, including a review of world-wide operational experience of similar projects, the study of generic guidance on hazards associated with the type of work being undertaken, and discussions with qualified and experienced staff from the project team, etc., the specific risks during the construction process of the metro station constructed by enlarging shield tunnels combined with the cut-and-cover method are identified. The results show that the specific risks mainly come from three construction processes which include constructing upper enclosure structures, excavating the soil between shield tunnels and demolishing shield segments. Then relevant risk mitigation measures are put forward. The results can provide references for scheme improvement and a comprehensive risk assessment of the new-style construction method.展开更多

We extract the basic information of land use in areas around Sichuan Gymnasium Station in 2005, 2011, and 2016 through Google Earth in order to draw the map of land use status in three time nodes. We then analyze the degree of mixing and equilibrium, intensity of development of land, and land use patterns of areas around Sichuan Gymnasium Station with indexes including the area proportion of land use patterns, information entropy, and degree of equilibrium within a 1,000-m radius centered on the station, so as to reveal the spatial distribution characteristics of land around the station in different time nodes. Through comparative analysis, it is found that the development of rail transit has not significantly contributed to the boom of commerce and the development of the old city of Chengdu. We also analyze land use changes in areas around Sichuan Gymnasium Station in terms of space, and find that land use patterns in areas around commuter stations seem to be more complicated than that of the average station, and land use patterns in areas around Huaxiba Station and Nijiaqiao Station on Line 1, which opened first, are more complicated than that of Moziqiao Station and Yiguanmiao Station on Line 3. The original land use patterns formed in the old city often determine the selection of rail transit routes and rail transit stations. Adaptive stations do not play a decisive role in land use patterns in their surrounding areas, but have some impact on the plot ratio and building height of land for commercial use within the core area of the stations.展开更多

Operating in an urban context that included the presence of an existing line (Milan Metro Line 1), the work had to grapple with some very particular problems so as not to interfere with the area's normal city life. Several construction choices and technical solutions were adopted to reduce impacts as much as possible and to suit local needs (hydromill diaphragm walls, top down and bottom up techniques, protected TBM (tunnel boring machine) break-in by false tunnels, precasted and casted solutions for internal structures and construction management, etc.). The contribution points out the attention to the issues that make this activity so particular for excavation, ground support and structural solutions, and also for the split between civil and tunnel works carried out simultaneously on the same site. Underground context, consisting mainly of sands and gravels with presence of water, is shortly presented also in terms of geotechnical parameters.展开更多

It addresses a significant research gap in understanding metro passengers’ dynamics across cultural and geographical contexts. It employs questionnaires, field observations, and advanced data analysis techniques like association rule mining and neural network modeling. Key findings include a correlation between rainy weather, shorter waiting times, and higher arrival volumes. Neural network models showed high predictive accuracy, with waiting time, metro satisfaction, and weather being significant factors in Lagos Light Rail Blue Line Metro. In contrast, arrival patterns, weather, and time of day were more influential in Wuhan Metro Line 5. Results suggest that improving metro satisfaction and reducing waiting times could increase arrival volumes in Lagos Metro while adjusting schedules for weather and peak times could optimize flow in Wuhan Metro. These insights are valuable for transportation planning, passenger arrival volume management, and enhancing user experiences, potentially benefiting urban transportation sustainability and development goals.展开更多

文摘With the rapid development of China's urbanization process, people put forward higher requirements for the efficient use of limited land resources.Facing the huge pressure brought by factors such as land, transportation and environment, the means of transportation on the ground have long been unable to meet the needs of people in modern cities.Metro is favored by people because of its high speed, stability and large capacity, and has become the best choice to relieve congestion in the public transportation system. How to efficiently use land resources while constructing urban metro systems? This article sorts out the current status of commercial construction in Nanchang metros to study the application value of commercial complex in the metro stations of Nanchang,so as to provide some useful references for related theoretical research.
文摘This research presents an analysis of travel mode choice for trips to Ho Chi Minh City metro station. Research methods were inherited through a formula to calculate passenger traffic forecasts to predict passengers, going to the station. Based on the collected data of interviews, traffic surveys, and "Irwin & Von Cube" function, forecast the proportion of travel mode, and use to go to the station and leaving from the station. The results of study are used for the purpose of calculating the size of the metro station parking lots and parking layout plan.
文摘Project significance Xiamen metro Line#3 runs from Xiamen Railway Station to Xiangran Airport. It is the southwest-northeast trunk line that connects the main island and the subcentre in the eastern regions(Xiangran District). The Wuliu Section(the sea-crossing section from Wuyuan Bay Station to Liuwudian Station)is the main engineering feat of the metro line due to its high construction difficulty and tight schedule. As one of the earliest sea-crossing metro tunnels constructed in China, this project represents significant engineering achievements and innovations. The plane view of Wuliu Section is shown in Fig.1.2 Brief introduction of the project 2.1 Design overview The Wuliu Section of Xiamen Metro Line#3 crosses the Xiamen east sea area and connects the main island with Xiangran Dis trict. It is to the northwest of the Xiangran subsea tunnel. The total length the section is 4.95 km,including about 3.6 km of sea-crossing section. The maximum water depth is 25 m and the maximum buried depth of the tunnel is 69 m.It adopts a single-line,dual-bore section and uses the combined M mining method-shield method"construction technique. There are one inclined construction shaft, one air shaft, ten service channels, three wastewater pump houses and one power substation. The plane view of the tunnel is shown in Fig.2.
文摘The current situation of Cairo metro stations, especially terminal stations and its surrounding areas, has bad financial revenue and bad effect on environment. It is a major factor in increasing of noise, traffic jam and air pollution,in addition to,spreading of street vendors, collecting of random parking around these terminal stations. Thus, this paper proposed a methodology helping to apply multilateral investments in metro terminal stations for getting extra profits and decreasing the bad environmental effect of terminal stations and its surrounding areas.Hence,Helwan-Metro station on line 1 has been considered as a case study.Number of passengers at peak time, their ages, and their destinations, have been considered by making a field survey and a questionnaire. After collecting data and finalizing the surveying questionnaire, primary studies were done to modify and introduce a new proposal for Helwan-Metro station. The initial cost of the proposed project is predicted by using Artificial Neural Network technique using Just NN software. The investment feasibility achieved by consideration of Life Cycle Cost analysis and calculation of Net Present Value(NPV)of the proposed project.
文摘Guangzhou and Foshan enjoy relatively mature metro network. However, some names of metro stations are over-transliterated in Pinyin.Such a translation method is used in translating general names, nouns of locality and some names of tourist destinations. With translation landscape and linguistic landscape theories, the reasons and impacts of over-transliteration in Guangzhou and Foshan metro will be discussed from the perspective of symbolic function.English names of Metro stations in other cities serve as a reference so as to appropriate solutions.
文摘Taking Sichuan Gymnasium Station as the research object, we explore land use characteristics over time of areas around Sichuan Gymnasium Station in terms of time. Adaptive stations do not play a decisive role in land use patterns in their surrounding areas, but have some impact on the plot ratio and building height of land for commercial use within the core area of the stations.
文摘This paper describes the construction of a deep station during the work on the extension of Metro Line 5 in Milan, Italy. Underground context, consisting mainly of sands and gravels with presence of water, is shortly presented also in terms of geotechnical parameters.
文摘This study explores the factors influencing metro passengers’ arrival volume in Wuhan, China, and Lagos, Nigeria, by examining weather, time of day, waiting time, travel behavior, arrival patterns, and metro satisfaction. These insights are valuable for transportation planning, passenger arrival volume management, and enhancing user experiences, potentially benefiting urban transportation sustainability and development goals.
