The largely reduced nitrogen fixation effect caused by acid soil is the ma- jor limitation of alfalfa growth in the south of China. Thus selection of anti-acid nodule for inoculating on alfalfa is of great significance in practical production. Using nine candidate rhizobia ( Rhizobium meliloti L. ) as study objects, their colony diameters and the nodule number of each strain inoculated alfalfa variety were investigated at different pH conditions. The YNCY006 strain presented the strongest resistance to acid, while YNCY007 strain presented the weakest. For nedulation, GT13R alfalfa inoculated with YNCY006 or YNCY008 strains was the best symbiosis system in the acidic soil. 展开更多

They are also sensi... Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are more widely distributed and can associate with a wide range of plant species. AMF are keystone organisms that form an interface between soils and plant roots. They are also sensitive to environmental changes. AMF are important microbial symbioses for plants under conditions of P-limitation. The AMF are crucial for the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems as they form symbiotic interactions with plants. Mycorrhizal fungi are known to influence plant diversity patterns in a variety of ecosystems globally. AMF hyphae form an extensive network in the soil. The length is a common parameter used to quantifying fungal hyphae. The mycelial network of AM fungi extends into the soil volume and greatly increases the surface area for the uptake of immobile nutrients. Also, AM symbioses improve plants tolerance to drought and enhance plants’ tolerance of or resistance to root pathogens. Also, the networks of AM hyphae play a crucial role in the formation of stable soil aggregates and in the building up of a macroporous structure of soil that allows penetration of water and air and thereby prevents erosion. The functioning of AMF symbiosis is mediated by direct and indirect effects of biotic and abiotic factors of the surrounding rhizosphere, the community, and the ecosystem. AMF have great potential in the restoration of disturbed land and low fertility soil. However, despite the importance of AMF to terrestrial ecosystems, little is known about the effects of environmental changes on AMF abundance, activity and the impact of these changes on the ecosystem services. Therefore, it is important to gain a clearer understanding of the effects of environmental changes on the AM fungal species to guide conservation and restoration efforts. 展开更多

The Pisolithus tinctorius symbiosis related protein expressed sequence tag (EST PtSRP) was previously identified in the first hours of the interaction between the fungus Pisolithus tinctorius and sweet chestnut Castanea sativa, and partially characterized as a fungal marker gene of ectomycorrhizal symbiosis formation. We used the 5’ rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) to obtain the PtSRP mRNA 5’ region, and together with our previously reported 3’ mRNA region, the full mRNA sequence was assembled by use of bioinformatics tools and deposited to GenBank (Accession: GU733439). The full-length mRNA sequence (636 bp) revealed the locations of the 5’ and 3’ untranslated regions (UTRs) and contained the Kozak sequence (ccc aag ATG A) in the 5’ UTR. The in silico translated PtSRP open reading frame (ORF) codes for a 127 amino acid protein and contained four putative post-translational modification sites (two N-glycosylation and two phosphorylation). The protein secondary structure is postulated to be composed of one N-terminal hydrophobic transmembrane alpha helix and at least six hydrophilic beta-strands spread across the protein. Sub-cellular localization prediction suggests that the protein is involved in cellular secretory pathway, supported by the presence of a cleavage site motif close to the membrane anchor. The data presented herein indicate the role of PtSRP as a fungal membrane secreted protein involved in early stages of ectomycorrhizal formation, with application as a possible marker for nascent ectomy-corrhiza fungal development. 展开更多

Tissue culture seedlings of the hybrid Cymbidium were inoculated with six different fungal strains, isolated from the roots of different wild terrestrial orchids. About three months later, the average increment of fresh weight of seedlings inoculated with strains CF1, CF3 and CF12 were respectively 130.26%, 345.65% and 153.34% while that of the control was only 88.40%. The differences between the three treatments and the control were statistically significant (α = 0.05), highlighting the treatment with strain CF3 (α = 0.01). In addition, the three strains were obtained by re-isolating. Pelotons, regarded as typical structures of orchid mycorrhiza, were also found in the inoculating roots under a microscope. It seems that the strains of CF1, CF3, and CF12 are associated with the hybrid Cymbidium and supplied the orchid with nutrition. It can be confirmed that the three strains are beneficial for the seedlings of this hybrid. 展开更多

Soybean(Glycine max)is one of the most important economic legume crops with largest planting area,and is also an important oil crop,as well as food and feed material.Soybean-rhizobia symbiosis plays important roles in plant cultivation and fertilizer application.However,there are many problems in agricultural application of soybean symbiotic nitrogen fixation.In this review,we summarized three restriction factors(host specificity,low nitrogen fixation efficiency and abiotic stress)and discussed research progresses of these factors.Clarification of host specific mechanism will help to select and apply rhizobia inoculants.Both maintaining high nitrogenase activity and delaying nodule senescence can improve the efficiency of symbiotic nitrogen fixation.Abiotic stress-tolerant rhizobia can improve the abiotic stress tolerance of soybean.Breeding stress tolerant genotypes of soybean and rhizobia,obtaining correlated genes are the common strategies to improve soybean symbiotic nitrogen fixation under extreme conditions.Regulatory mechanisms of these restriction factors are still poorly understood and needs further clarification. 展开更多

Recently,the degradation of permafrost and marsh environments in the Da and Xiao Hinggan Mountains has become a great concern as more human activities and pronounced climate warming were observed during the past 30 years and projected for the near future.The distribution patterns and development mechanisms of the permafrost and marshes have been examined both in theories and in field observations,in order to better understand the symbiosis of permafrost and marshes.The permafrost and marshes in the Da and Xiao Hinggan Mountains display discernible zonations in latitude and elevation.The marsh vegetation canopy,litter and peat soil have good thermal insulation properties for the underlying permafrost,resulting in a thermal offset of 3℃ to 4℃ and subsequently suppressing soil temperature.In addition,the much higher thermal conductivity of frozen and ice-rich peat in the active layer is condu-cive to the development or in favor of the protection of permafrost due to the semi-conductor properties of the soils overlying the permafrost.On the other hand,because permafrost is almost impervious,the osmosis of water in marsh soils can be effectively reduced,timely providing water supplies for helophytes growth or germination in spring.In the Da and Xiao Hinggan Mountains,the permafrost degradation has been accelerating due to the marked climate warming,ever increasing human activities,and the resultant eco-environmental changes.Since the permafrost and marsh envi-ronments are symbiotic and interdependent,they need to be managed or protected in a well-coordinated and integrated way. 展开更多

Background: The symbiotic relationship between E. coli and Salmonella was demonstrated using hydrogen sulfide production named MY phenomenon, which is a feature of Salmonella. Methods: In order to confirm the hydrogen sulfide production of Salmonella by iron sulfide formation, deoxycholate-hydrogen sulfate-lactose agar medium having both a sulfur source and an iron source was used. The case where Salmonella was cultured alone was compared with the case co-cultured with E. coli. In the case of culture with Salmonella alone, the MY phenomenon has not occurred. When Salmonella was co-cultured with E. coli, Salmonella cultured near E. coli existing place showed a black color named MY phenomenon. When E. coli was cultured alone, it turned red due to the organic acid produced. However, when E. coli was cultured in the part where Salmonella. is inoculated on the surface of the medium, the MY phenomenon appeared there. Furthermore, hydrogen sulfide production was more active in Salmonella co-existing with E. coli. Conclusion: The study shows an important relation that E. coli is a promoting factor for Salmonella culture by NY phenomenon. The relation suggests that bacterial symbiosis relation exist in bacterial flora. 展开更多

This paper analyzes current urban symbiosis development and application in China, and then conducts a statistical analysis of the emissions reduction of CO2 and CH_4 in relation to recovery of iron and steel scraps, waste paper, and waste plastics from 2011 to 2014 using the greenhouse gas(GHG) emission inventory calculation method provided by the IPCC. Results indicate that the cumulative recovery of renewable resources during China's main urban symbiosis development in 2011e2014 was 803.275 Mt, and the amount of iron and steel scraps, waste paper, and waste plastic recovery was the largest, respectively accounting for 62.2%, 18.0%, and 8.2% of total recovery in 2014. In addition, the cumulative emissions reduction of GHGs in relation to recovery of iron and steel scraps, waste paper, and waste plastics in 2011e2014 was27.962 Mt CO_2-eq, 954.695 Mt CO_2-eq, and 22.502 Mt CO_2-eq, respectively, thereby totaling 1005.159 Mt CO_2-eq. Although mechanism of symbiosis between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and host plants has been investigated by genetic analysis, very little knowledge has been obtained because genome analysis of AMF is not perfect yet. Thus, we tried to develop mass purification of proteins using preparative chromatography in order to accelerate roteomic analysis of proteins related to mycorrhizal symbiosis, such as 24 and 53 kDa proteins. In particular, our data showed that 53 kDa proteins would be restrictively expressed when mycorrhizal fungi and host plants were stressed. However, 24 kDa proteins, which appear to be a usable indicator for the existence of various my-corrhizal fungi, were habitually detected in not only AMF but also other mycorrhizal fungi such as ectomycorrhizal fungi (EF). Moreover, we discovered new preparative chromatographical techniques for isolation and mass purification of those proteins. We are convinced that this chromato-graphical technique will greatly contribute to proteomic approach of mycorrhizal symbiosis. 展开更多

According to literature, the ABC algorithm is traditionally applied to constrained and unconstrained problems, but is combined with modified DNA concepts and implemented for fuzzy classification in this present research. Moreover, from the best of our knowledge, previous research on the ABC algorithm has not combined it with DNA computing for hierarchical fuzzy classification to explore the merits of cooperative coevolution. Therefore, this paper is the first to apply the mechanism of symbiosis to create a hybrid modified DNA-ABC algorithm for hierarchical fuzzy classification applications. In this study, the partition number and the shape of the membership function are extracted by the symbiosis based hybrid modified DNA-ABC optimization algorithm, which provides both sufficient global exploration and also adequate local exploitation for hierarchical fuzzy classification. The proposed optimization algorithm is applied on five benchmark University of Irvine (UCI) data sets, and the results prove the efficiency of the algorithm. 展开更多

Arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)fungi can successfully enhance photosynthesis(P_(n))and plants growth in agricultural or grassland ecosystems.However,how the symbionts affect species restoration in sunlight-intensive areas remains largely unexplored.Therefore,this study’s objective was to assess the effect of AM fungi on apricot seedling physiology,within a specific time period,in northwest China.In 2010,an experimental field was established in Shaanxi Province,northwest China.The experimental treatments included two AM fungi inoculation levels(0 or 100 g of AM fungal inoculum per seedling),three shade levels(1900,1100,and 550µmol m^(−2) s^(−1)),and three ages(1,3,and 5 years)of transplantation.We examined growth,Pn,and morphological indicators of apricot(Prunus sibirica L.)seedling performances in 2011,2013,and 2015.The colonization rate in mycorrhizal seedlings with similar amounts of shade is higher than the corresponding controls.The mycorrhizal seedling biomass is significantly higher than the corresponding non-mycorrhizal seedling biomass.Generally,P_(n),stomatal conductance(G_(s)),transpiration rate(T_(r)),and water use efficiency are also significantly higher in the mycorrhizal seedlings.Moreover,mycorrhizal seedlings with light shade(LS)have the highest Pn.WUE is increased in non-mycorrhizal seedlings because of the reduction in T_(r),while T_(r) is increased in mycorrhizal seedlings with shade.There is a significant increase in the N,P,and K fractions detected in roots compared with shoots.This means that LS had apparent benefits for mycorrhizal seedlings.Our results also indicate that AM fungi,combined with LS,exert a positive effect on apricot behavior. 展开更多

This paper quantitatively examines the impact of industrial symbiosis on sustainability. The quantitative approach, as developed by the authors, is based on the concept of Industrial Sustainability Index (ISI), which represents the socio-economic benefit of an industry per unit of its carbon emissions. The ISI was evaluated for a chemical production plant both in independent and symbiotic modes with different energy technologies. The ISI value for the chemical production plant in independent mode was found to be 6 units. This was three times more than in the case of the existing symbiotic mode with an adjacent pulp & paper industry having coal fired CHP plant. With the adoption of more energy efficient technologies e.g. natural gas based combined cycle power plant and solar PV electricity generation;the ISI in the modified symbiotic mode can be increased to 18 units. The results indicate that industrial symbiosis can help in sustainability improvement when the technologies used by the industries are energy efficient. 展开更多

This essay expounds the indiscernible symbiosis that hitches formalist aesthetics to moral consciousness via an analysis of the fictionality of metafiction,the uncertainty of dream narrative,and Sontag’s sarcasm of anti-intellectual behaviors imbedded in her novel The Benefactor.The fictive nature of the novel is well manifested via the pervasive disclosure of self referential narration made by Hippolyte.The glaring discrepancies between the dreamlike life experiences expatiated on by Hippolyte in the main body of the novel and the circumstances laid plain en masse in his journals,letter,and manuscript which come out at the close of the novel are a strikingly acute revelation to remind a reader of the novel of the uncertainty of Hippolyte’s narration.The concluding section of the essay is an analysis of Sontag’s satirical version of anti-intellectualism:She arranges for the two abnormal characters—one is fond of daydreaming,and the other is temperamentally“camp”—to revert to the normal way of life and become intellectually pedestrian.The conclusion of the novel obscurely implies that the realities of the world have rendered it difficult for such a moral disburdenment as is set forth in Sontag’s aesthetic conceptualization to come into being. 展开更多

Effect of various pesticides (insecticides, fungicides and herbicides) has been studied on growth and efficiency of symbiotic properties of 3 fast growing Rhizobium sp. under green house conditions. The results revealed adverse effects on plant growth and nitrogen fixing capacity as measured by dry weight and total nitrogen content of plants infected with pesticide treated Rhizobium. Of the pesticides tested, herbicides were found to be more effective on the above parameters than the insecticides and fungicides. 展开更多
