The Effects of Organization Context, Investment Strategy, and Entry Mode on Management Performance: An Analysis of Taiwan Residents Enterprises in China Mainland

Among the top 1,000 Taiwan Residents enterprises in China listed by the database of Commercial Times in 2012, 763 of them witnessed revenue growth and 864 of them were in profits. This paper seeks to identify the reasons behind such a stellar performance by conducting an empirical study on the top 500 Taiwan Residents businesses in the database. The results suggest that: (1) the larger the investment into China, the better the business performances; (2) the higher the ownership by Taiwan Residents firms for the outward investments to China, the better the business performances; (3) compared to investments in IT, technology and machinery, the outward investments from Taiwan to China achieve better returns in commodity, energy, and mining; (4) compared to investments in Eastern, Central, and Western China, the investments in Chinese municipalities generate better returns. 展开更多

This paper proposes an intelligent management system (IMS) to help managers in their delicate and tedious task of exploiting the plethora of data (indicators) contained in management dashboards. This system is based on intelligent agents, ontologies and data mining. It is implemented by PASSI (Process for Agent Societies Specification and Implementation) methods for agent design and implementation, the Methodology for Knowledge Modeling and Hot-Winters for data prediction. Intelligent agents not only track indicators but also store the knowledge of managers within the company. Ontologies are used to manage the representation and presentation aspects of knowledge. Data mining makes it possible to: make the most of all available data;model the industrial process of data selection, exploration and modeling;and transform behaviors into predictive indicators. An instance of the IMS named SYGISS, currently in operation within a large brewery organization, allows us to observe very interesting results: the extraction of indicators is done in less than 5 minutes whereas manual extraction used to take 14 days;the generation of dashboards is instantaneous whereas it used to take 12 hours;the interpretation of indicators is instantaneous whereas it used to take a day;forecasts are possible and are done in less than 5 minutes whereas they did not exist with the old management. This paper puts forward the connotation of enterprise green management and green management performance evaluation,analyzes the characteristics of enterprise green management performance evaluation and decomposes its content.Using the triple performance method,the paper constructs the performance evaluation index system of enterprise green management.Taking BH Petrochemical Co.,Ltd.at the high-efficiency ecological economic zone of the Yellow River Delta as an example,by using analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and Matlab programming,this paper determines the weight of each index in the enterprise green management performance evaluation index system,the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is used to evaluate the green management performance evaluation of industrial enterprises.The results show that the performance evaluation index system of enterprise green management constructed by"triple performance method"has important theoretical significance and application value for evaluating and guiding enterprises to strengthen their green management. 展开更多

This paper focuses on the innovation capacities of the senior corporate managers of listed companies in China and the complex relationship between firm performance and the operating environment to study and analyze the management and development of Chinese enterprises. Through relevant theoretical analysis and development of research hypotheses using the A-shares in Shanghai and Shenzhen listed companies announced in 2007 and 2008, the authors design an empirical model. The study found that in Chinese listed companies, the higher the innovation spirit of senior corporate managers, the better their business performances; the stronger the dynamic and complexity of the operating environment, the more the corporate managers' innovation ability will be developed. 展开更多

在数字化的情境下,关于知识基础不同维度对企业创新绩效影响机制尚存在不同观点。为利用和盘活已有知识资源提升数字化创新绩效,基于知识基础理论,通过4103家中国企业2010—2021年间的面板数据构建双向固定效应模型,探讨知识资源的不同... 在数字化的情境下,关于知识基础不同维度对企业创新绩效影响机制尚存在不同观点。为利用和盘活已有知识资源提升数字化创新绩效,基于知识基础理论,通过4103家中国企业2010—2021年间的面板数据构建双向固定效应模型,探讨知识资源的不同性质对于组织数字化创新绩效的影响,分析知识重组能力等情境变量在传统知识资源与数字化创新绩效之间的调节作用。结果表明:知识宽度对企业数字化创新绩效具有积极作用,知识深度对数字化创新绩效有倒“U”型影响;利用式知识重组能力在知识宽度与数字化创新绩效之间发挥正向调节作用,创造式知识重组能力在知识深度与数字化创新绩效之间也发挥正向调节作用。可见,组织需要较多的异质性知识,不能局限于某一知识领域,才能提升数字化创新绩效。因此,企业应涉猎更丰富的知识领域,拥有多样化的异质性知识元素,同时对自身资源和能力进行有效整合和匹配,以实现更高效的运营和业务目标。 展开更多

如何全面推进企业高质量发展是近年来社会各界关注的焦点。本文以2004—2021年中国沪深A股上市公司的相关数据为研究样本,采用固定效应模型实证分析了独立董事海外留学背景对企业ESG表现的影响及作用机制。基准分析结果表明,独立董事海... 如何全面推进企业高质量发展是近年来社会各界关注的焦点。本文以2004—2021年中国沪深A股上市公司的相关数据为研究样本,采用固定效应模型实证分析了独立董事海外留学背景对企业ESG表现的影响及作用机制。基准分析结果表明,独立董事海外留学背景对企业ESG表现起促进作用,且该作用会随着拥有海外留学背景的独立董事在董事会中占比的上升而更加明显。异质性分析结果表明,独立董事海外留学背景对国有企业ESG表现的促进作用更为明显。同时,该促进作用在污染排放量高的企业中也更为明显。机制分析结果表明,独立董事海外留学背景能够通过减少企业代理问题提升企业ESG表现。此外,论资排辈问题会降低独立董事海外留学背景对企业ESG表现的促进作用。进一步分析结果表明,独立董事海外留学背景对企业环境、社会和治理表现的促进作用存在显著差异,其对企业社会表现的促进作用更明显。本文通过揭示独立董事求学经历与企业ESG表现之间的因果关系,为提升企业独立董事决策和咨询能力、促进中国独立董事制度改革,以及通过人才供给侧结构性改革推动企业高质量发展提供了启示。 展开更多

Non-CEO top managers’ monitoring power and CEO pay-performance sensitivity in state-owned enterprises:Evidence from Chinese state-owned listed firms

Few studies have focused on the role of non-CEO top manager inside directors in corporate governance,especially in the context of emerging countries.Despite their tendency to be subject to CEOs,non-CEO top manager inside directors can counterbalance CEOs in specific situations.Using panel data on state-owned listed companies in China,we conduct an empirical study of how non-CEO top manager inside directors influence CEO pay-performance sensitivity under serious agency conflicts.We find that the proportion of non-CEO top manager inside directors is significantly negatively correlated with CEO pay-performance sensitivity in state-owned enterprises,whereas the shareholding proportion of the controlling shareholders weakens this relationship.Furthermore,we find that non-CEO top manager inside directors significantly increase executives’on-the-job consumption.Our conclusions are robust to endogeneity testing and alternative specifications. 展开更多
