In this study, specimens of fossil fish remains are collected from the late Middle Miocene(Serravallian, -12 Ma) of the middle member of the Shang Youshashan Formation, Dahonggou(DHG) section, in the northern Qaidam Basin. Based on a systematic study of these materials, the remains have assigned to Cyprinidae, with typical pharyngeal teeth and dorsal fin spines with serrations on the posterior edge. Our discovery improves understanding of the cyprinid fish distribution characteristics in the Qaidam Basin during the Cenozoic. Cooccurrences of terrestrial brackish ostracod species Cyprideis and long chain alkenonesin the layer indicate that the studied cyprinid fish lived in a generally large brackish to saline water body during the late middle Miocene(Serravallian), when the climate of Qaidam Basin was still not sufficiently dry to form an extreme saline water lake.展开更多

The new specimen is referred to Yunguisaurus Cheng et al., 2006 on the basis of the skull features, such as the presence of a separated nasal entering the external naris, a large pineal foramen located at the frontal/parietal suture and an interpterygoid vacuity with a narrow anterior extension. The new specimen differs from the type species of Yunguisaurus liae Cheng et al., 2006 in some aspects. Most of these differences can be attributed to ontogenetic variations. The new specimen is provisionally considered as Yunguisaurus cf. liae although its relatively short snout of the skull and slenderer hyoid may not be explained ontogenetically. Whether or not the new specimen represents a different taxon has to wait for a detailed study of the whole skeleton.展开更多

Shale-normalized REE+Y patterns of all samples show notably negative Ce anomalies (0.21-0.66, average 0.33), slightly positive Gd anomalies (1.08-1.30, average 1.20), and positive Y anomalies with superchondritic Y/Ho ratios (36-91, average 55), which are consistent with those of modern shallow seawater. Their relative LREEs enrichment with higher NdsN/YbsN ratios (0.58-1.80) than those of modern shallow seawater (0.21-0.50) suggests complicated sources of REEs for all samples. Compared with geochemical features of sediments influenced by terrigenous particles and hydrothermal fluids, it is concluded that ambient shallow seawater was the primary source of REEs in these limestones. Comparing the indicators of REE+Y elements (ZREE, NdsN/YbsN, Ce/Ce*, Gd/Gd*, Eu/Eu* and Y/Ho) in limestones with those in bedded cherts from the Tieqiao section, we consider that limestone and bedded chert have similar sources of REE+Y elements: ambient shallow seawater with more or less hydrothermal fluids. In addition, there is a completely negative correlation between CaCO3 and SiO2 contents in limestones and bedded cherts. These results imply that precipitation of CaCO3 was inhibited by that of SiO2 which was derived mainly from hydrothermal fluid, es- pecially in bedded cherts from the Tieqiao section.展开更多

This paper investi- gates the evolution of diversity of the late Middle Permian brachiopods community in Hechuan, Chongqing, China, and dis- cusses the relationship between species diversity and community productivity in terms of the geohistorical development. This paper shows that the species diversity is externalized by several indexes, and the relationship between diversity and productiv- ity is too complex to be described by a single assumption. The relationship between species diversity and community produc- tivity is restricted by environment and community evolution. When the community succeeds normally, the relationship be- tween species richness index, species diversity index, and species evenness index to productivity is in linear dependence rela- tion to each other, which is met with the third assumption. But, when the environment interference surpasses the beating capa- bility of the community, not only the community succession will be terminated and be replaced by another one, but also the relationship between species richness index, species diversity index, and species evenness index to productivity is also in- versed to negative correlation by the interference from environment. Only the relationship between ecological dominance and productivity is in linear dependence relation to each other and approximately met with the third assumption. It is illustrated that the assumption that the productivity is in linear dependence relation with diversity should be established on the presupposition that the community succession is normal.展开更多

The Tiaojishan Formation(mainly distributed in Beipiao, Chaoyang, Fuxin and Jianchang regions) is one of the most significant horizons for the Jurassic petrified wood in Liaoning Province. Previously, wood fossils of this formation were mainly reported in Beipiao and Chaoyang regions, whereas fossil wood record was merely known in Jianchang region. Here we describe new fossil wood specimens from the Tiaojishan Formation in Jianchang County, western Liaoning. Two fossil wood taxa, i.e., Protaxodioxylon jianchangense Tian et Wang sp. nov. and Xenoxylon peidense Zheng et Zhang were recognized on the basis of anatomical features. These fossil wood records add new data for understanding the fossil wood diversity, floral composition and palaeoclimate of the Tiaojishan Formation. The occurrence of Xenoxylon and Protaxodioxylon implies a cool temperate, wet and seasonal climate condition with interannual variations during the Middle to Late Jurassic transition in western Liaoning region.展开更多

Whether or not the new specimen represents a different taxon has to wait for a detailed study of the whole skeleton.

文摘The Yuzhou Flora of the southern North China Platform possesses the typical regional features of the Middle and Late Cathaysian Flora. For a long time during the Permian, this area was located on shoreline marine tidal flats and deltas at low latitudes with a warm and humid climate.Consequently, many successive layers with abundant well-preserved plant fossils and a complete evolutionary sequence were developed. This is a unique and ideal place to study the Middle and Late Cathaysian Flora. We have recognized 111 genera and 307 species from this flora. The rapid morphological evolution and uninterrupted stratigraphic succession of Lobatannularia(Sphenophytes) make this group one of the bases for biostratigraphic divisions of the Permian System of the North China Platform.Ninety percent of Pteridophytes belong to the order Marattiales, which are well developed during the early and middle stages of the Yuzhou Flora but experience a sudden decline during the late stage.Ancient Pteridospermatophytes only flourished during the Middle Permian whereas advanced Peltaspermales are extremely well developed at the end of the early Late Permian.Among them Shenzhouphyllum is one of characteristic elements in the late stage of the Yuzhou Flora. The Cycadophytes evolved relatively early in this area and they differentiated and proliferated during the late Middle to early Late Permian. The number of species of Ginkgophytes is small but this group is extremely abundant, especially in the early Late Permian. The Gigantopteridales(preangiosperms) is a very important and unique group in the Yuzhou Flora.Based upon their venation and leaf architecture, this group can be divided into three evolutionary stages,i.e.,appearance and differentiation, first flourishing, and second flourishing and sudden disappearance, which form the basis for biostratigraphic division and correlation of the Permian System of the North China Platform.Based upon the evolutionary trend of venation pattern and leaf architecture,we propose some taxonomic changes at the generic level. The Yuzhou Flora emerged at the middle Early Permian(Zisongian) and suddenly disappeared at the early Late Permian(Wujiapingian). It is later replaced by the Euro-American Zechstein flora in the late Late Permian. The Yuzhou Flora is divided into three(early, middle and late) stages based upon the cyclic development of its plant groups.Five fossil plant assemblage zones are recognized from the Yuzhou Flora based upon the succession of each group and their combined characters in different layers.

文摘Major, trace and rare earth elements were measured in 27 samples of the Middle to Late Permian limestones from the Tieqiao section located on the marginal zone of an isolated platform (Laibin, South China). These results imply that precipitation of CaCO3 was inhibited by that of SiO2 which was derived mainly from hydrothermal fluid, es- pecially in bedded cherts from the Tieqiao section.

文摘The relationship between species diversity and ecosystem function is a hot topic in ecology and environics. It is illustrated that the assumption that the productivity is in linear dependence relation with diversity should be established on the presupposition that the community succession is normal.

文摘Diverse and rich fossil wood records have been documented from the Mesozoic of Liaoning Province, NE China. The occurrence of Xenoxylon and Protaxodioxylon implies a cool temperate, wet and seasonal climate condition with interannual variations during the Middle to Late Jurassic transition in western Liaoning region.
