As mining depth becomes deeper and deeper, the possibility of undermining overburden aquifers is increasing. It is very important for coal miners to undertake studies on the height of fractured zone during longwall mining and the effects of longwall mining on the underground water while mining under surface water bodies and underground aquifers. In order to study this problem, piezometers for monitoring underground water levels were installed above the longwall panels in an American coalmine.Large amounts of pre-mining,during mining and post-mining monitoring data were collected.Based on the data, the heights of fractured zones were obtained and the effects of longwall mining on the underground water were studied. The results demonstrate that when the piezometer monitoring wells had an interburden thickness of less than 72.7 m,the groundwater level decreased immediately to immeasurable levels and the wells went dry after undermining the face of longwall. The height of the fractured zone is 72.7-85.3 m in the geological and mining conditions. The results also show that the calculated values of fractured zones by the empirical formulae used in China are smaller than the actual results. Therefore,it is not always safe to use them for analyses while mining under water bodies. 展开更多

To solve the problem of surface subsidence caused by mining, the main method is to reasonably process coal mining space.'Mining caving zone high-pressure grouting pulverized coal ash hydromass controlling roof and overlying strata movement' technology is one of processing methods. After grouting pulverized coal ash hydromass in mining caving zone, formed one kind of special material which is used to support roof and effec- tively control the subsidence of overlying strata. For the accurate calculation of roof mining subsidence at grouting state, based on the characteristics of such materials, established its constitutive equation based on certain assumptions, gave deformation calculation method when the compound rock supports overlying strata, lay foundation for the actual calculation of subsidence of overlying strata after grouting and the promotion of mining caving zone grouting technology. 展开更多

Generally, longwall mining-induced stress results from the stress relaxation due to destressed zone that occurs above the mined panel. Knowledge of induced stress is very important for accurate design of adjacent gateroads and intervening pillars which helps to raise the safety and productivity of longwall mining operations. This study presents a novel time-dependent analytical model for determination of the longwall mining-induced stress and investigates the coefficient of stress concentration over adjacent gates and pillars. The model is developed based on the strain energy balance in longwall mining incorporated to a rheological constitutive model of caved materials with time-varying parameters. The study site is the Tabas coal mine of Iran. In the proposed model, height of destressed zone above the mined panel, total longwall mining-induced stress, abutment angle, induced vertical stress, and coefficient of stress concentration over neighboring gates and intervening pillars are calculated. To evaluate the effect of proposed model parameters on the coefficient of stress concentration due to longwall mining, sensitivity analysis is performed based on the field data and experimental constants. Also, the results of the proposed model are compared with those of existing models. The comparative results confirm a good agreement between the proposed model and the in situ measurements. According to the obtained results, it is concluded that the proposed model can be successfully used to calculate the longwall mining-induced stress. Therefore, the optimum design of gate supports and pillar dimensions would be attainable which helps to increase the mining efficiency. 展开更多

Based on the conclusions of domestic and foreign research, we have analyzed the collapse-fall characteristics of overlying strata and the mechanism of aquifer-protective mining in shallow coal seam working faces at the Shendong Mine. We have selected the height of the water-conducting fracture zone in overlying strata as a composite index and established the applicable conditions of aquifer-protective mining in shallow coal seams with a multi-factor synthetic-index classification method. From our calculations and analyses of variance, we used factors such as the overlying strata strength, mining disturbing factors and rock integrity as related factors of the composite index. We have classified the applicable conditions of aquifer-protective mining in shallow coal seams into seven types by comparing the result of the height of water-conducting fractured zones of long-wall and short-wall working faces with the thickness of the bedrock, the thickness of the weathered zone and the size of safety coal-rock pillars. As a result, we propose the preliminary classification system of aquifer-protective mining in shallow coal seams. It can provide a theoretical guidance for safe applications of aquifer-protective mining technology in shallow coal seams under similar conditions. 展开更多
