Hydrodynamic Performance of a Newly-Designed Pelagic and Demersal Trawls Using Physical Modeling and Analytical Methods for Cameroonian Industrial Fisheries

This study proposed the newly-designed Pelagic and demersal trawls for the fishing vessels operating in Cameroonian waters in pelagic and demersal fishing grounds. The engineering performances of both trawls were investigated using physical modelling method and analytical method based on the predicted equations. In a flume tank, a series of physical model tests based on Tauti’s law were performed to investigate the hydrodynamic and geometrical performances of both trawls and to assess the applicability of the analytical methods based on predicted equations. The results showed that in model scale, the working towing speed and door spread for the pelagic trawl were 3.5 knots and 1.85 m, respectively, and for the bottom trawl net they were 4.0 knots and 1.8 m. At that speed and door spread, the drag force, net opening height, and wing-end spread of the pelagic model trawl were 36.73 N, 0.89 m, and 0.86 m, respectively, and the swept area was 0.76 m<sup>2</sup>. Bottom trawl speed and door spread were 30.43 N, 0.38 m, and 0.45 m, respectively, and the swept area was 0.25 m<sup>2</sup>. The maximum difference between the experimental and analytical results of hydrodynamic performances was less than 56.22% and 41.45%, respectively, for pelagic and bottom trawls, the results of the geometrical performances obtained using predicted equations were close to the experimental results in the flume tank with a maximum relative error less than 12.85%. The newly developed pelagic and bottom trawls had advanced engineering performance for high catch efficiency and selectivity and could be used in commercial fishing operations in Cameroonian waters. 展开更多

The objective of this work is to model the microstructure of asphalt mixture and build virtual test for asphalt mixture by using Particle Flow Code in three dimensions(PFC^(3D))based on three-dimensional discrete element method.A randomly generating algorithm was proposed to capture the three-dimensional irregular shape of coarse aggregate.And then,modeling algorithm and method for graded aggregates were built.Based on the combination of modeling of coarse aggregates,asphalt mastic and air voids,three-dimensional virtual sample of asphalt mixture was modeled by using PFC^(3D).Virtual tests for penetration test of aggregate and uniaxial creep test of asphalt mixture were built and conducted by using PFC^(3D).By comparison of the testing results between virtual tests and actual laboratory tests,the validity of the microstructure modeling and virtual test built in this study was verified.Additionally,compared with laboratory test,the virtual test is easier to conduct and has less variability.It is proved that microstructure modeling and virtual test based on three-dimensional discrete element method is a promising way to conduct research of asphalt mixture. 展开更多

Against the background of the sand-flow foundation treatment engineering of Guangzhou Zhoutouzui variable cross-section immersed tunnel, a kind of sand deposit-detecting method was devised on the basis of full-scale model test of sand-flow method. The real-time data of sand-deposit height and radius were obtained by the self-developed sand-deposit detectors. The test results show that the detecting method is simple and has high precision. In the use of sand-flow method, the sand-carrying capability of fluid is limited, and sand particles are all transported to the sand-deposit periphery through crater, gap and chutes after the sand deposit formed. The diffusion range of the particles outside the sand-deposit does not exceed 2.0 m. Severe sorting of sand particles is not observed because of the unique oblique-layered depositing process. The temporal and spatial distributions of gap and chutes directly affect the sand-deposit expansion, and the expansion trend of the average sand-deposit radius accords with quadratic time-history curve. 展开更多

The origin and movement of groundwater are the fundamental questions that address both the temporal and spatial aspects of ground water run and water supply related issues in hydrological systems.As groundwater flows through an aquifer,its composition and temperature may variation dependent on the aquifer condition through which it flows.Thus,hydrologic investigations can also provide useful information about the subsurface geology of a region.But because such studies investigate processes that follow under the Earth's shallow,obtaining the information necessary to answer these questions is not continuously easy.Springs,which discharge groundwater table directly,afford to study subsurface hydrogeological processes.The present study of estimation of aquifer factors such as transmissivity(T)and storativity(S)are vital for the evaluation of groundwater resources.There are several methods to estimate the accurate aquifer parameters(i.e.hydrograph analysis,pumping test,etc.).In initial days,these parameters are projected either by means of in-situ test or execution test on aquifer well samples carried in the laboratory.The simultaneous information on the hydraulic behavior of the well(borehole)that provides on this method,the reservoir and the reservoir boundaries,are important for efficient aquifer and well data management and analysis.The most common in-situ test is pumping test performed on wells,which involves the measurement of the fall and increase of groundwater level with respect to time.The alteration in groundwater level(drawdown/recovery)is caused due to pumping of water from the well.Theis(1935)was first to propose method to evaluate aquifer parameters from the pumping test on a bore well in a confined aquifer.It is essential to know the transmissivity(T=Kb,where b is the aquifer thickness;pumping flow rate,Q=TW(dh/dl)flow through an aquifer)and storativity(confined aquifer:S=bS_s,unconfined:S=S_y),for the characterization of the aquifer parameters in an unknown area so as to predict the rate of drawdown of the groundwater table/potentiometric surface throughout the pumping test of an aquifer.The determination of aquifer's parameters is an important basis for groundwater resources evaluation,numerical simulation,development and protection as well as scientific management.For determining aquifer's parameters,pumping test is a main method.A case study shows that these techniques have been fast speed and high correctness.The results of parameter's determination are optimized so that it has important applied value for scientific research and geology engineering preparation. 展开更多

Based on the flow mechanism of hydraulic fractured wells, through integrating linear-flow model and effective well-radius model, a new model of well test analysis for wells with vertical fracture was established. In the model, wellbore storage, the damage in the wall of fracture and all kinds of boundary conditions are considered. The model is concise in form, has intact curves and computes fast, which may meet the demand of real-time computation and fast responded well test interpretation. A new method to determine effective well radius was presented, and the correlation between effective well radius and the fracture length, fracture conductivity, skin factor of fracture was given. Matching flow rate or pressure tested, the optimization model that identified formation and fracture parameters was set up. The automatic matching method was presented by synthetically using step by step linear least square method and sequential quadratic programming. At last, the application was also discussed. Application shows that all of these results can analyze and evaluate the fracturing treatment quality scientifically and rationally, instruct and modify the design of fracturing and improve fracturing design level. 展开更多

Hydropower projects are rapidly developing in China at present, and a number of high daras and large reservoirs are currently under construction or will soon be built. These large projects are mainly located on the great rivers in West China with complicated topographical and geological conditions. Evaluation of stability and safety of these high dam projects is an important topic. Geomechanical model test is one of the main methods to study the global stability of high dam and foundation. In this paper, a comprehensive testing method that combines overloading and strength reduction in a model is proposed. In this method, both the influence of excessive flooding and the effects of strength reduction of rock masses and weak structural planes on dam stability are considered. Thus, the comprehensive testing method can accurately incorporate multiple factors that affect the global stability of high dam and its foundation. Based on the failure testing principle and model similarity theory, a similarity relation formula for safety evaluation through comprehensive test is established. A new model material, temperature-dependent analogous material, is also developed. By rising the temperature and reducing the strength of the mod,~l material, the mechanical behaviors resulting from gradual strength reduction can be simulated. Thus, the comprehensive testing method is realized in a single model. For case studies, the comprehensive geomechanical model test is conducted for Jinpinlg I and Xiaowan high arch dam projects. 展开更多

The finite volume method has been successfully applied in several engineering fields and has shown outstanding performance in fluid dynamics simulation. In this paper, the general framework for the simulation ofnear-wellbore systems using the finite volume method is described. The mathematical model and the numerical model developed by the authors are presented and discussed. A radial geometry in the vertical plane was implemented so as to thoroughly describe near-wellbore phenomena. The model was then used to simulate injection tests in an oil reservoir through a horizontal well and proved very powerful to correctly reproduce the transient pressure behavior. The reason for this is the robustness of the method, which is independent of the gridding options because the discretization is performed in the physical space. The model is able to describe the phenomena taking place in the reservoir even in complex situations, i.e. in the presence of heterogeneities and permeability barriers, demonstrating the flexibility of the finite volume method when simulating non-conventional tests. The results are presented in comparison with those obtained with the finite difference numerical approach and with analytical methods, if possible. 展开更多

Model tests and numerical analyses of stepped reinforced retaining wall were performed to investigate the effects of rheology of backfill and creep of geogrids on the long-term performance of the structure.The geogrid tensions,soil pressures,wall deformations and foundation pressure were measured during model construction and loading.A visco-elasto-plastic model and an empirical nonlinear visco-elastic model were utilized to simulate the stresses and deformations of geogrid-reinforced earth-retaining wall under long-term loads.By comparing test data with numerical results,it is shown that the foundation pressure distribution is nonlinear,and the lateral constraint of geogrids for backfill can cause a redistribution of foundation pressure.The curve of soil pressure is outside convex at each step initially,and it is close to the distribution for the case of vertical wall subsequently.The variation trend of geogrid tensions at different heights is obtained.Moreover,the failure mechanism and development mode of potential slip surface in retaining wall are proposed. 展开更多

Employing an ideal elasto-plastic model,the typically used strength reduction method reduced the strength of all soil elements of a slope.Therefore,this method was called the global strength reduction method(GSRM).However,the deformation field obtained by GSRM could not reflect the real deformation of a slope when the slope became unstable.For most slopes,failure occurs once the strength of some regional soil is sufficiently weakened; thus,the local strength reduction method(LSRM)was proposed to analyze slope stability.In contrast with GSRM,LSRM only reduces the strength of local soil,while the strength of other soil remains unchanged.Therefore,deformation by LSRM is more reasonable than that by GSRM.In addition,the accuracy of the slope's deformation depends on the constitutive model to a large degree,and the variable-modulus elasto-plastic model was thus adopted.This constitutive model was an improvement of the Duncan–Chang model,which modified soil's deformation modulus according to stress level,and it thus better reflected the plastic feature of soil.Most importantly,the parameters of the variable-modulus elasto-plastic model could be determined through in-situ tests,and parameters determination by plate loading test and pressuremeter test were introduced.Therefore,it is easy to put this model into practice.Finally,LSRM and the variable-modulus elasto-plastic model were used to analyze Egongdai ancient landslide.Safety factor,deformation field,and optimal reinforcement measures for Egongdai ancient landslide were obtained based on the proposed method. 展开更多

随着城市地下空间桩基与隧道立体交叉分布体系的日渐复杂,隧道渗流侵蚀引发的桩基稳定性问题越发突出。然而,目前关于隧道破损引发渗流侵蚀方面的研究工作主要聚焦于侵蚀发生机制方面,其与邻近桩基的相互作用尚欠关注。因此,在物理试验... 随着城市地下空间桩基与隧道立体交叉分布体系的日渐复杂,隧道渗流侵蚀引发的桩基稳定性问题越发突出。然而,目前关于隧道破损引发渗流侵蚀方面的研究工作主要聚焦于侵蚀发生机制方面,其与邻近桩基的相互作用尚欠关注。因此,在物理试验揭示渗流侵蚀机制的基础上,通过建立土体临界细粒含量表达式,量化表征了地层侵蚀形态;随后,采用随机定量删除细颗粒的方法,基于离散单元法DEM建立了多区域侵蚀地层模型,进而分析了不同桩基位置、沉桩方式、桩基荷载和基础类型条件下桩基结构的侵蚀响应特征。结果表明,桩基受侵蚀后均产生不同程度的下沉位移,并在不平衡力的驱动下向侵蚀区倾斜;桩端阻力受损后随桩体下沉逐渐上升,侧摩阻力损失则基本无法恢复。此外,不同沉桩方式与桩基荷载下,桩体的位移与阻力变化模式基本一致,主要是变化量的不同;相比单桩,群桩具有更好的抗侵蚀能力。 展开更多

为验证总安全系数法中喷层的荷载结构模型及其安全系数计算方法,研制大型隧道结构模型试验系统,采取结构试验的方法,开展毛洞、不同厚度喷层以及二次衬砌的加载破坏试验。通过围岩和细砂材料的三轴试验明确模型试验中各材料的物理与力... 为验证总安全系数法中喷层的荷载结构模型及其安全系数计算方法,研制大型隧道结构模型试验系统,采取结构试验的方法,开展毛洞、不同厚度喷层以及二次衬砌的加载破坏试验。通过围岩和细砂材料的三轴试验明确模型试验中各材料的物理与力学参数,模拟毛洞、不同厚度喷层以及二次衬砌的加载破坏全过程,依据破坏状态明确喷层与二次衬砌的设计承载能力,试验中监测围岩应力应变、喷层内外侧应变和喷层位移,结合监测结果分析喷层与二次衬砌在承载过程中的变形特征与受力特征,明晰喷层与二次衬砌的承载机制,并与总安全系数法理论计算结果进行对比分析。结果表明:1)在试验断面条件下喷层受力状态为小偏心受压,喷层与围岩之间的粘结能有效传递剪力,从而减少了喷层的弯矩,有利于充分发挥喷层的抗压强度,同厚度情况下喷层的设计承载力要高于二次衬砌;2)试验得到的厚度为2 cm和4 cm喷层的设计承载力比总安全系数法理论计算结果分别大27.0%和22.9%,表明总安全系数法的喷层承载力计算模型是合理的,并具有合适的安全性。 展开更多

Series of testing on coarse grained soils were carried out with a true triaxial testing apparatus. The loads were applied from the major principal and minor principal directions, respectively, to simulate the construction and water impounding process of a rock fill dam. The stress and strain relationships induced by the different loading methods were investigated. A remarkable stress-induced anisotropy under complex stress state was observed. Contrary to popular assumptions in traditional numerical analysis and constitutive models, it was found that different elastic modulus and Poisson ratio exist in different principal directions in rock fill dams. From the testing results, an anisotropic constitutive model based on Duncan-Chang nonlinear model is presented to overcome the limitations of axi-symmetric assumptions in conventional triaxial experiments and constitutive models. Both models were then applied in FEM analysis of an under-construction earth core high rock soil filled dam with the focus on hydraulic fracturing. The study reveals the major biases that exist when numerical analysis and constitutive models do not give serious consideration to the intermediate principal stress and anisotropy effects in soil rock built structures. 展开更多

盾构隧道下穿高铁路基变形影响规律及加固优化研究

为研究盾构隧道下穿高铁路基施工时对路基的影响规律,探究在隧道开挖过程中运用不同加固措施对既有高铁路基的影响程度。以西安市某地铁工程为依托,利用室内模型试验对比分析盾构隧道下穿高铁CFG桩复合路基过程中,无加固、超前管幕工法... 为研究盾构隧道下穿高铁路基施工时对路基的影响规律,探究在隧道开挖过程中运用不同加固措施对既有高铁路基的影响程度。以西安市某地铁工程为依托,利用室内模型试验对比分析盾构隧道下穿高铁CFG桩复合路基过程中,无加固、超前管幕工法加固与地表袖阀管注浆加固3种隧道施工条件下,地表沉降值和沉降槽的空间分布规律;采用数值模拟分析验证超前管幕工法加固工况下盾构隧道下穿时,高铁路基、道床的位移变化规律。室内模型试验结果表明:盾构隧道施工中采用管幕工法加固后复合地基正上方的地表沉降最大值减小28.6%,采用袖阀管注浆加固后减小18.0%,并且采用两种加固措施后的CFG桩最大附加轴力均减小20%以上。因此,在隧道掘进过程中采用一定加固措施,可改善围岩稳定性,其中管幕工法加固效果更为显著。数值模拟分析表明:采取管幕工法加固施工与不采取加固措施相比,路基最大沉降量减少33.78%,道床最大沉降量减少45.08%。因此,管幕工法加固能够有效减小对既有高铁路基的影响。 展开更多

常泰长江大桥索塔锚固结构采用钢箱-核芯混凝土组合结构,为研究该新型组合索塔锚固结构钢-混传剪构造的受力特性,进行钢-混传剪构造足尺模型试验研究。制作2个锚固结构足尺节段试验模型,通过压剪试验研究锚固结构的荷载~滑移曲线及应力... 常泰长江大桥索塔锚固结构采用钢箱-核芯混凝土组合结构,为研究该新型组合索塔锚固结构钢-混传剪构造的受力特性,进行钢-混传剪构造足尺模型试验研究。制作2个锚固结构足尺节段试验模型,通过压剪试验研究锚固结构的荷载~滑移曲线及应力、应变分布等受力特性,并通过有限元模型分析锚固结构的传力机理和各组件的内力分配比例,推导剪力钉剪力计算方法。结果表明:在2.14倍单索最大索力荷载作用下,锚固结构保持弹性状态,钢壁板未产生明显滑移,钢-混界面最大滑移不超过0.25 mm,该锚固结构中钢-混传剪构造至少具有2.14倍的安全系数;荷载作用下,剪力钉剪力从上至下逐渐增大,锚腹板附近底部3排剪力钉剪力较大,钢-混传剪构造至少存在剪力钉和界面摩擦力2种传剪机制,钢-混传剪构造的承载能力显著提高;钢-混传剪构造受力过程分为粘结力传力阶段和局部滑移阶段,剪力钉剪力分布不仅与沿剪切方向长度分布有关,也与荷载的大小线性相关。 展开更多
