The onset times of acoustic signals with spikes, heavy bodies and unclear takeoffs are difficult to be picked accurately by the automatic method at present. To deal with this problem,an improved joint method based on the discrete wavelet transform(DWT),modified energy ratio(MER)and Akaike information criterion(AIC)pickers, has been proposed in this study.First, the DWT is used to decompose the signal into various components. Then, the joint application of MER and AIC pickers is carried out to pick the initial onset times of all selected components, where the minimum AIC position ahead of MER onset time is regarded as the initial onset time.Last, the average for initial onset times of all selected components is calculated as the final onset time of this signal. This improved joint method is tested and validated by the acoustic signals with different signal to noise ratios(SNRs)and waveforms. The results show that the improved joint method is not affected by the variations of SNR,and the onset times picked by this method are always accurate in different SNRs.Moreover, the onset times of all acoustic signals with spikes, heavy bodies and unclear takeoffs can be accurately picked by the improved joint method.Compared to some other methods including MER,AIC,DWT-MER and DWT-AIC,the improved joint method has better SNR stabilities and waveform adaptabilities. 展开更多

Buckling could be induced when shallow arches were subjected to vertical step loads. In-plane static and dynamic buckling of shallow pin-ended parabolic arches with a horizontal cable was investigated. Based on the equations of motion derived from Hamilton's principle, nonlinear equilibrium equations and static buckling equilibrium equations were deduced. Through the pseudo-static analysis, approximate solutions to the lower and upper dynamic buckling loads under step loads were obtained, for shallow parabolic arches. The results show that dynamic buckling and snap-through buckling are impossible when modified slenderness ratio λ<λc and λ>λs, where λc and λs denote critical slenderness ratios of bucking and snap-through buckling, respectively; effects of the stiffness of the horizontal cable on the dynamic buckling are significant; and the dynamic buckling loads under a equivalent central concentrated step load are lower than the loads under a distributed load appreciably. 展开更多

The production of deep well-shaped WC-Co cemented carbide blocks via industrial powder pressing remains a challenging technical problem, primarily due to the unsuitability of the forming agent. The forming agent paraffin wax was modified through four types of modifiers, including organic high-molecular-mass resins, plasticizers, surfactants and lubricants. The qualitative screening of resin types was explored and an orthogonal experiment involving the combination of these four paraffin wax modifiers was conducted to obtain an optimized quantitative ratio of modifiers. The results reveal that the insertion of the small molecule chain of resin into the interstitial spaces of paraffin wax crystals is likely a crucial factor for improving the compatibility between the resin and paraffin wax.Through orthogonal experiments, the optimized formulation for the forming agent is determined:100 parts of 58#paraffin wax,15 parts of EVA-2,4 parts of DPHP,4 parts of oleic acid amide and 2 parts of stearic acid. This optimized formulation is applied to industrial production at one Chinese company, and qualified deep well-shaped cemented carbide products are achieved, which contain 90wt%WC and 10wt%Co. 展开更多

Finite mixture models are widely used in scientific investigations.Due to their non-regularity,there are many technical challenges concerning inference problems on various aspects of the finitemixture models. After decades of effort by statisticians, substantial progresses are recorded recently in characterising large sample properties of some classical inference methods when applied to finitemixture models, providing effective numerical solutions formixture model-based data analysis, and the invention of novel inference approaches. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive summary on large sample properties of some classical statistical methods and recently developed modified likelihood ratio test and EM-test for the order of the finite mixture model. The presentation de-emphasises the rigour in order to gain some insights behind some complex technical issues. The paper wishes to recommend the EM-test as the most promising approach to data analysis problems from all models with mixture structures. 展开更多

Two experimental tests of three-storied reinforced concrete structural walls having large openings were performed.Based on an original macro model,a multiple modified macro-model was proposed to develop a simple method to design a reinforced concrete structural wall with large openings and various opening locations. The interaction between reinforcement ties and concrete struts formed along the perimeter of openings was neglected in the original model. However, the strut-and-tie node was proposed to take account of such interaction in the proposed model. The predicted behavior of two specimens using such a proposed model was compared with the experimental results. It is shown that the behavior of structural walls with large openings could be modeled well using the proposed model. Moreover, the study indicates that the proposed model is applicable even in cases of multi-story structural walls having large openings and various opening locations. 展开更多
