Evaluating the Effectiveness of Consultants’ Roles in Improving Value for Money in Public Infrastructure Projects in Ghana

Ghanaian construction projects encounter a number of challenges, including low health, safety, and environmental requirements, poor performance, and time and cost overruns. To provide value for money (VFM) on government infrastructure projects in Ghana, this research assesses the roles of project consultants, specifically architects and quantity surveyors, and highlights important obstacles. A cross-sectional survey design involving architects and quantity surveyors yielded a 96% response rate after 100 questionnaires were distributed. Consultants’ responsibilities also include monitoring standards compliance, providing advice on delays, controlling budgets, and advising on project completion dates. Difficulties encompass a lack of promptness in decision-making, unethical conduct, political pressure, and inadequate focus on contract administration and construction audits. Project urgency, longevity, political clout, timely decision-making, and team experience are important variables that impact VFM. Policy makers and construction management practitioners should take note of the implications for Ghana’s public infrastructure projects.

China’s Monetary Policy Impacts on Money and Stock Markets

This study investigated the impact of China’s monetary policy on both the money market and stock markets,assuming that non-policy variables would not respond contemporaneously to changes in policy variables.Monetary policy adjustments are swiftly observed in money markets and gradually extend to the stock market.The study examined the effects of monetary policy shocks using three primary instruments:interest rate policy,reserve requirement ratio,and open market operations.Monthly data from 2007 to 2013 were analyzed using vector error correction(VEC)models.The findings suggest a likely presence of long-lasting and stable relationships among monetary policy,the money market,and stock markets.This research holds practical implications for Chinese policymakers,particularly in managing the challenges associated with fluctuation risks linked to high foreign exchange reserves,aiming to achieve autonomy in monetary policy and formulate effective monetary strategies to stimulate economic growth.

In the paper, the data of the narrow money supply of China from January 2005 to March 2016 as sample, model is established by using Eviews6.0. Upon inspection, the model has good fitting effect (MAPE = 1.09) and high prediction accuracy. According to the results of the model, the paper forecasts the development trend of the narrow money supply of China and puts forward some suggestions to provide reference for monetary policy of China.

The Research of an Incremental Conceptive Clustering Algorithm and Its Application in Detecting Money Laundering

Considering the constantly increasing of data in large databases such as wire transfer database, incremental clustering algorithms play a more and more important role in Data Mining （DM）. However, Few of the traditional clustering algorithms can not only handle the categorical data, but also explain its output clearly. Based on the idea of dynamic clustering, an incremental conceptive clustering algorithm is proposed in this paper. Which introduces the Semantic Core Tree （SCT） to deal with large volume of categorical wire transfer data for the detecting money laundering. In addition, the rule generation algorithm is presented here to express the clustering result by the format of knowledge. When we apply this idea in financial data mining, the efficiency of searching the characters of money laundering data will be improved.

Macroeconomic effects of Mobile money:evidence from Uganda

This study examined the effects of mobile money-a recent innovation in Uganda’s financial-sector landscape-on aggregate economic activity and other macroeconomic variables.We first estimated the long-run mobile-money demand function using vector error correction(VEC)techniques,distinguishing between balances and transfers/transactions.We then estimated the short-run effects of mobile money on selected macroeconomic variables using structural vector autoregressive(SVAR)methods.The results showed that mobile money had moderate positive effects on monetary aggregates,consumer price index,private-sector credit,and aggregate economic activity.Mobile money balances responded to changes in monetary policy instruments,signaling possible ameliorating effects for the conduct of monetary policy.Finally,the results showed that transactional motives related to mobile money had stronger macroeconomic effects than savings motives.

Using Link Analysis Technique with a Modified Shortest-Path Algorithm to Fight Money Laundering

Effective link analysis techniques are needed to help law enforcement and intelligence agencies fight money laundering. This paper presents a link analysis technique that uses a modified shortest-path algorithms to identify the strongest association paths between entities in a money laundering network. Based on two-tree Dijkstra and Priority＇First-Search （PFS） algorithm, a modified algorithm is presented. To apply the algorithm, a network representation transformation is made first.

Empirical analysis on China money multiplier

The paper firstly represents two kind statements of China money multipliers and theoretically analyzes the relationship between each structure factor and China money multiplier. Secondly, it summarizes the several features and the move trends of China narrow and broad money multipliers and their structure factors. Thirdly, the paper empirically analyzes how and what degree the each structure factor affects China narrow and broad money multipliers holding everything else constant. At last two important conclusions are got, that is, the required reserve ratio is the most associated with China money multipliers and the saving deposit ratio is more associated with that, the required reserve ratio and the interest rates can be used as the ways of affecting money aggregate by the People＇s Bank of China.

The Structural Relationship between Chinese Money Supply and Inflation Based on VAR Model

With the development of economy, more and more attention is paid to the relationship between money supply and inflation in the economic field. This paper chooses consumer price index (CPI) as an important index to measure the level of inflation, by choosing between January 2008 and March 2019 money in circulation M0, narrow measure M1, broad measure M2, consumer price index CPI monthly data as sample, building a vector autoregressive (VAR) model and using econometric methods of impulse response function and variance decomposition, and finally characterizes money in circulation M0, narrow measure M1, broad measure M2 and the relationship between consumer price index CPI and different sizes of the impact of inflation in the money supply relationship.

A study of the factors affecting mobile money penetration rates in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) compared with East Africa

According to the 2017 Global Financial Inclusion(Global Findex)database,the average penetration rate of mobile money accounts in East Africa is higher than that of the WAEMU.This study attempts to understand the factors driving the adoption and the use of mobile financial services in the WAEMU compared to East Africa.To achieve this,micro-level data from the 2017 Global Findex database are used to perform probit and multinomial logit estimations.The findings reveal that the same determinants influence the adoption and use of mobile money accounts across the populations of both groups of countries,specifically those related to the least vulnerable social categories(i.e.,males,older,more educated,richer and part of the workforce).Therefore,in comparison to East Africa,the delay in the penetration of mobile money accounts observed in the WAEMU may be attributed to insufficient policies for increasing the awareness of the benefits of mobile financial services.The study recommends that governments in WAEMU countries promote the use of mobile money accounts among the working-age population(adults aged between 25 and 64)through the improvement of individual income level,and the introduction of incentives into the education system to encourage their population to attain higher levels of education.

Determinants of private sector credit in Uganda: the role of mobile money

Background:Mobile money services have been associated with unprecedented access to financial services,notably to under-banked and unbanked populations.Thus,mobile money opens a channel through which to examine the supply of private sector credit in Uganda.This study investigates how mobile money services influence private sector credit growth.Methods:We applied the vector error correction(VEC)model and Granger causality analysis to Ugandan data from March 2009 to February 2016,the period when mobile money services were introduced.Results:The VEC model reveals that mobile money has a significant positive longrun association with private sector credit growth.Granger causality analysis reveals long-run unidirectional causality from mobile money to private sector credit.Conclusions:Mobile money is critical for financial intermediation because it attracts resources from both the banked and the unbanked populations into the formal financial system,facilitating private sector credit growth.

Empirical research on the relationship between real estate price fluctuation and foreign money inflow

In recent years, the real estate price has been raising with the volume of foreign money inflow increasing. The relationship between foreign money and real estate price becomes a focus. This paper studies the relationship with empirical methods. The co-integration test shows that there is a long equilibrium between real estate price rising and foreign money inflow. The analysis of ECM shows that foreign money inflow as to real estate price rising is less important than real estate price rising as to foreign money inflow. And Granger test also shows that foreign money inflow is not the cause of real estate price rising, on the contrary, real estate price rising causes foreign money flowing in.
