The simultaneous assessment of the individual concentration of an organic dye in mixtures using a spectrophotometric method is a difficult procedure in analytical chemistry, due to spectral overlapping. This drawback can be overcome if a multivariate calibration method such as Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) is used. This study presents a calibration model based on absorption spectra in the 300 - 650 nm range for a set of 20 different mixtures of dyes, followed by the prediction of the concentrations of dyes in 6 validation mixtures, randomly selected, using the PLSR method. Estimated limits of detection (LOD) were 0.106, 0.047 and 0.079 mg/L for TAR, CR, and AB, respectively, and limits of quantification (LOQ) were 0.355, 0.157 and 0.265 mg/L for TAR, CR, and AB, respectively. Quantitative determination of the three azo dyes was performed following optimized adsorption experiments onto chitosan beads of mixtures of TAR, CR and AB. Adsorption isotherm and kinetic studies were carried out, proving that the proposed PLSR method is rapid, accurate and reliable.展开更多

The initial dye concentration was in the range of 100-1,800 mg/L. The dried algal sorbent was ground and sieved into 3 sizes: S (0.1-0.84 mm), M (0.84-2.0 mm), and L sizes (larger than 2.0 mm). For all conditions examined in this work (at 25℃ in batch systems), the adsorption reached equilibrium within the first hour. The kinetic data corresponded well with the pseudo second order kinetic model where the rate constant, k2, decreased as the sorbent size increased for all dyes. The adsorption isotherms followed both Langmuir and Freundlich models. Among three sorbent sizes, S size gave the highest adsorption capacity followed by M and L sizes. A reduction of sorbent size increased the specific surface area for mass transfer, and also increased the total pore volume, thus providing more active sites for adsorption. The adsorption of AB was adversely influenced by the protonation of algal surface at low pH. On the other hand, the adsorption of AR and AY could be due to weak electrostatic interaction, which was not significantly affected by pH. Increasing salinity of the system caused a decrease in adsorption capacity possibly due to the competition between Na^+ and the dye cations for the binding sites on algal surface. Moreover, an increase in salinity generated a compressed electrical double layer on the algal surface which exerted repulsive force, retarding the adsorption of positive charged molecules such as the basic dyes.展开更多

The aim of the investigation is to determine the adsorption behavior ofazo dyes in aqueous solution on DG06, GSE17200, and GSE17201 soils using C. I. Acid Red 14 (AR14) as example. The adsorption of synthetic dyes, Reactive Brilliant Blue KN- R, and Reactive Brilliant Red K-2BP, by these immobilized gel beads and plain gel beads was evaluated. The adsorption efficiencies of Reactive Brilliant Red K-2BP and Reactive Brilliant Blue KN-R by CTS immobilized beads were 89.1% and 93.5% in 12 h, respectively. The adsorption efficiency by Na-CMC immobilized beads was slightly lower than that of mycelial pellets. But the dye culture mediums were almost completely decolorized in 48 h using the above-mentioned two immobilized beads (exceeding 95%). The adsorption efficiency by SA immobilized beads exceeded 92% in 48 h. PVA-SA immobilized beads showed the lowest adsorption efficiency, which was 79.8% for Reactive Brilliant Red K-2BP and 92.5% for Reactive Brilliant Blue KN-R in 48 h. Comparing the adsorption efficiency by plain gel beads, Na-CMC plain gel beads ranked next to CTS ones. SA and PVA-SA plain gel beads hardly had the ability of adsorbing dyes. Subsequently, the growth of mycelia in Na-CMC and SA immobilized beads were evaluated. The biomass increased continuously in 72 h. The adsorption capacity of Reactive Brilliant Red K-2BP and Reactive Brilliant Blue KN-R by Na-CMC immobilized beads was 78.0 and 86.7 mg/g, respectively. The SEM micrographs show that the surface structure of Na-CMC immobilized bead is loose and finely porous, which facilitates diffusion of the dyes.展开更多

Both adsorbents FA-ZA and FA-ZX were synthesized from fly ash prepared aluminosilicate gel followed by the hydrothermal treatment at 100°C with the control of Si/Al molar ratio, respectively. The properties of the synthetic zeolites and commercial grade zeolites, such as thermal stability, elemental composition, and cation exchange capacity, were investigated for comparison. Batch method was used to study the influential parameters, such as initial pH value of the solution, temperatures, and adsorbents dosage, on the adsorption process. The experimental data were well fitted by Ho’ pseudo-second-order model and liquid film diffusion model. The suitability of Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms to the equilibrium data was investigated in the solid-liquid system while the Langmuir model produces the best re-sults. Thermodynamic data (△H, △S, and △G) corresponding to the MB uptake were evaluated from the Langmuir model. In all the adsorption experiments, the adsorption capacity followed the order as follows: FA-ZX > FA-ZA. In addition, attempts were also made to regenerate the adsorbents.展开更多

A mechanism for the synthesis of P(AM-co-AA) hydrogel was proposed. To optimize the synthesis condition, the following parameters were examined in detail: the discharge voltage, discharge time, the content of the crosslinker, and the mass ratio of AM to AA. The results showed that the optimum pH range for cationic dyes removal was found to be 5.0-10.0. The P(AM-co-AA) hydrogel exhibits a very high adsorption potential and the ex- perimental adsorption capacities for Crystal violet (CV) and Methylene blue (MB) were 2974.3 mg/g and 2303.6 mg/g, respectively. The adsorption process follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. In addition, the adsorption mechanism of P(AM-co-AA) hydrogel for cationic dyes was also discussed.展开更多

The adsorption character of this activated carbon was tested on three colour dyes molecules in aqueous solution: Methylene blue(MB), Rhodamine B(RB) and Congo Red(CR). The adsorption equilibrium was studied through isotherms construction at 30℃, which were well described by Langmuir model. The adsorption capacity on the OSAC was estimated to be 303 mg/g, 217 mg/g and 167 mg/g respectively for MB, RB and CR. This activated carbon has a similar adsorption properties to that of commercial ones and show the same adsorption performances. The adsorption kinetics of the MB molecule in aqueous solution at different initial concentrations by OSAC was also studied. Kinetic experiments were well fitted by a simple intra-particle diffusion model. The measured kinetics constant was influenced by the initial concentration and we found the following correlation: Kid = 1.55 C0^0.51.展开更多

Styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer resin NG-8 has an average pore size of 3.82 nm, about half of that of polydivinylbenzene resin NG-7 (6.90 nm). NG-8 also has a surface acidity about 4 times that of NG-7, resulting in a much more negative surface of the former resin as compared to the latter at pH 6.05. Equilibrium adsorption of KNB was significantly influenced by the surface functionality of the resins, as evidenced by the observations that NG-8 adsorbed constantly less KNB than NG-7 and that the presence of CaCl2 enhanced the adsorption by both resins. The intra-particle diffusion appears to be the primary rate-limiting process. While the pores of both resins are accessible to KNB, the slower adsorption by NG-8 than by NG-7 suggests that the smaller pores of NG-8 further retard the intra-particle diffusion of KNB.展开更多

The adsorption behaviors of three reactive dyes (Reactive Red 23, Reactive Blue 171 and Reactive Blue 4) onto this biomass activated carbon were investigated in batch systems. The experimental findings showed that the removal efficiencies of three dyes onto activated carbon were maximum at the initial solution pH of 4.5 - 6.0. Thermodynamic studies suggested that adsorption reaction was an endothermic and spontaneous process. Adsorption isotherm of the three dyes obeyed Freundlich isotherm modal. Dye adsorption capacities of activated carbon were 59.88, 71.94 and 131.93 mg·g?1 for RR23, RB171 and RB4 at 27?C, respectively. Second-order kinetic models fitted better to the equilibrium data of three dyes. The adsorption process on activated carbon was mainly controlled by intraparticle diffusion mechanism.展开更多

Adsorption isotherms showed that the adsorption of cationic pink FG was Langmuir type behavior, while the reactive brilliant red k-2G was Freundlich type behavior. The increasing pH favored the adsorption of FG but have little effect on the photodegradation. The increasing pH favored the adsorption and the photodegradation of k-2G. The presence of scavenger of h + vb and OH· radical potassium iodide inhibited the degradation of k-2G, free radicals scavenger tetranitromethane inhibited the photodegradation of FG. These results indicated that the photodegradation of FG mainly via free radicals in solution, and the photodegradation of k-2G was mainly on the catalysts surface or near the interface of solid and solution by react with h + vb and surface-bound OH·. The different effect of SO 2- 4, HCO - 3 on the adsorp tion and photodegradation of two dyes confirmed these results.展开更多

The heating at 500°C during three hours (3 h) has destroyed their constitutive organic matter, converted the aragonite form completely into the calcite and reduced their specific surfaces. The effects of these modifications have been revealed in the adsorption in aqueous environment of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) which are respectively cationic and anionic dyes. The results showed that the sorption of these dyes on the raw shells is more important than the heated shells. The methylene blue has more affinity for shells than methyl orange. Between these two types of snails, the shells of Lanistes varicus have a higher capacity of adsorption. This sorption of the methylene blue is more in relationship with the Freundlich model ( for EG and for EA) comparatively to Langmuir model If the shells of these snails were calcined before using for the cicatrizing of the human cutaneous wounds in Benin. In the case of the sorption of organic molecule, it will be necessary to avoid submitting them to a preliminary heat treatment.展开更多

文摘Four materials, sodium carboxymethylcellulose (Na-CMC), sodium alginate (SA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), and chitosan (CTS), were prepared as supports for entrapping fungus Aspergillusfumigatus. The SEM micrographs show that the surface structure of Na-CMC immobilized bead is loose and finely porous, which facilitates diffusion of the dyes.

文摘The removal performance of a basic dye, methylene blue (MB), in aqueous solution was investigated by adsorption process on single-phase and high-crystalline zeolite A (FA-ZA) and X (FA-ZX). In addition, attempts were also made to regenerate the adsorbents.

文摘In this paper, poly (acrylamide-co-acrylic acid) (P(AM-co-AA)) hydrogel was pre- pared in an aqueous solution by using glow-discharge electrolysis plasma (GDEP) induced copoly- merization of acrylamide (AM) and acrylic acid (AA), in which N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) was used as a crosslinker. In addition, the adsorption mechanism of P(AM-co-AA) hydrogel for cationic dyes was also discussed.
文摘Activated carbon was produced from olive stones(OSAC) by a physical process in two steps. The measured kinetics constant was influenced by the initial concentration and we found the following correlation: Kid = 1.55 C0^0.51.

文摘In this study,an alternative precursor for production of activated carbon was introduced using dragon fruit(Hylocereus costaricensis)peel(DFP).Moreover,KOH was used as a chemical activator in the thermal carbonization process to convert DFP into activated carbon(DFPAC).In order to accomplish this research, several approaches were employed to examine the elemental composition, surface properties, amorphous and crystalline nature, essential active group, and surface morphology of the DFPAC.The BrunauerEmmettTeller test demonstrated a mesoporous structure of the DFPAC has a high surface area of 756.3 m2g 1.The cationic dye Methylene Blue(MB)was used as a probe to assess the efficiency of DFPAC towards the removal of MB dye from aqueous solution. The effects of adsorption input factors(e.g.DFPAC dose(A:0.040.12 g L 1),pH(B:310),and temperature(C:3050℃))were investigated and optimized using statistical analysis(i.e.BoxBehnken design(BBD)).The adsorption kinetic model can be best categorized as the pseudofirst order(PFO).Whereas, the adsorption isotherm model can be best described by Langmuir model, with maximum adsorption capacity of DFPAC for MB dye was 195.2 mg g 1 at 50℃.The adsorption mechanism of MB by DFPAC surface was attributed to the electrostatic interaction,pp interaction, and Hbonding. Finally, the results support the ability of DFP to be a promising precursor for production of highly porous activated carbon suitable for removal of cationic dyes(e.g.MB).

文摘Cyanobacteria-based activated carbon(CBAC)was successfully prepared by pyrolysis-activation of Taihu cyanobacteria. When the impregnation ratio and activated temperature were 2 and 800-C,respectively,the optimal CBACs possessed an ultra-high specific surface(2178.90 m^(2)·g^(-1))and plenty of micro-and meso-pores,as well as a high pore volume(1.01 cm^(3)·g^(-1)).Ascribed to ultra-high surface area,π-π interaction, electrostatic interaction,as well as hydrogen-bonding interactions, the CBACs displayed huge superiority in efficient dye removal. The saturated methylene blue adsorption capacity by CBACs could be as high as 1143.4 mg·g^(-1),superior to that of other reported biomass-activated carbons. The adsorption was endothermic and modeled well by the pseudo-second-order kinetic,intra-particle diffusion, and Langmuir models. This work presented the effectiveness of Taihu cyanobacteria adsorbent ascribed to its super large specific surface area and high adsorption ability.

文摘High surface area activated carbons were produced by thermal activation of waste bamboo scaffolding with phosphoric acid.Single component equilibrium dye adsorption was conducted on the carbons produced and compared with a commercially available carbon. Two acid dyes with different molecular sizes, namely Acid Yellow 117(AY117) and Acid Blue 25(AB25),were used to evaluate the adsorption capacity of the produced carbons. It was found that the dye with smaller molecular size,AB 25,was readily adsorbed onto the produced carbon, nearly three times higher than a commercially available carbon, while the larger size dye,AY117,showed little adsorption. The experimental data were analyzed using isotherm equations including Langmuir,Freundlich,Tempkin,Toth,Redlich-Peterson and Sips equations. The equilibrium data were then analyzed using five different non-linear error analysis methods.

文摘In this study, two polymeric resins with different pore sizes were synthesized to study comparative adsorption of reactive black KNB dye. While the pores of both resins are accessible to KNB, the slower adsorption by NG-8 than by NG-7 suggests that the smaller pores of NG-8 further retard the intra-particle diffusion of KNB.
文摘Activated carbon was prepared from Enteromorpha prolifera by zinc chloride activation. The adsorption process on activated carbon was mainly controlled by intraparticle diffusion mechanism.
文摘The relationship between adsorption behavior and photocatalytic mechanism of the two dyes was investigated. The different effect of SO 2- 4, HCO - 3 on the adsorp tion and photodegradation of two dyes confirmed these results.

文摘In order to remove the organic dyes of textile waste water, the silica aerogel was successfully prepared by using E-40 as a novel precursor and then dried in ambient pressure. The synthesized sample was verified by Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM)and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR).After calcining, the hydrophilic silica aerogel(HSA)was used as adsorbent to remove Methylene Blue(MB),Malachite Green(MG),and Gentian Violet(GV)from aqueous solution. The effects of initial concentration of dyes and adsorbent dosage on the adsorption process were examined. It was found that HSA showed excellent adsorption capacities, the maximum percentage of removal dyes could reach 98%.Herein,the Langmuir,Freundlich and de Boer-Zwikker isotherm modes were employed to discuss the adsorption behavior. The results indicated that the de Boer–Zwikker model can effectively describe the adsorption behavior.Besides, the HSA could be utilized as the recyclable adsorbent in degradation experiment, after five cycles,no obvious loss of adsorption capacity was found. As an efficient,low-cost,environmental friendly and recyclable adsorbent, silica aerogel is expected to be used for dyes removal.
文摘Penicillium terrestre was used for removing four anthraquinone dyes from aqueous solution. The experiments were performed in Erlenmeyer flasks and spore suspension was used for inoculation. The results show that the mechanism of dye removal by penicillium terrestre is biosorption and the growing pellets exhibit higher adsorptive capacity than the resting or dead ones. The maximum removals of disperse blue 2BLN, reactive brilliant blue KN-R, acid anthraquinone blue and bromamine acid at the concentration of 120 mg/L by biosorptionof growing pellets are 10096, 100%, 96% and 91%, respectively. The 100.0% and 91.4% KN-R removals are achieved respectively at the much higher concentration of 250 and 400 mg/L. 2.5 g/L glucose is sufficient for 100% KN-R removal by growing pellets. Salinity (NaCl) increase from 0 to 2% (W/ V) moderately accelerates both mycelium growth and KN-R removal.
文摘The characterization of the shells of snails Achatina achatina and Lanistes varicus indicates that they contain calcium carbonate (98%) essentially aragonite, and organic matter (2%). In the case of the sorption of organic molecule, it will be necessary to avoid submitting them to a preliminary heat treatment.
