Dueto the lack of efficient measurement equipment, there has been limited in-depth research on rail weld joint with a5-m wavelength range, leaving a significant knowledge gap in this field.Design/methodology/approach – In this study, the authors used the well-established inertial referencemethod (IR-method), and the state-of-the-art multi-point chord reference method (MCR-method). Two methodshave been applied in different types of rail straightness measurement trollies, respectively. These instrumentswere tested in a high-speed rail section within a certain region of China. The test results were ultimatelyvalidated through using traditional straightedge and feeler gauge methods as reference data to evaluate the railweld joint straightness within the 5-m wavelength range.Findings – The research reveals that IR-method and MCR-method produce reasonably similar measurementresults for wavelengths below 1 m. However, MCR-method outperforms IR-method in terms of accuracy forwavelengths exceeding 3 m. Furthermore, it was observed that IR-method, while operating at a slower speed, carries the risk of derailing and is incapable of detecting rail weld joints and low joints within the track.Originality/value – The research compare two methods’ measurement effects in a longer wavelength rangeand demonstrate the superiority of MCR-method.展开更多

The modeled coefficients, one of the successful and classical methods hitherto, were chosen to calibrate the EM38 measurements of the inverted salinity profiles of characteristic coastal saline soils at selected sites of Xincao Farm, Jiangsu Province, China. However, this method required three parameters for each depth layer. An integration approach, based on an exponential decay profile model, was proposed and the model was fitted to all the calibration sites. The obtained model can then be used to predict EC1:5 at a certain depth from electromagnetic measurements made using the EM38 device positioned in horizontal and vertical positions at the soil surface. This exponential decay model predicted the EC1:5 well according to the results of a one-way analysis of variance, and the further comparison indicated that the modeled coefficients appeared to be slightly superior to, but not statistically different from, this exponential decay model. Nevertheless, this exponential decay model was more significant and practical because it depended on less empirical parameters and could be used to perform point predictions of EC1:5 continuously with depth.展开更多

Methods were then compared for reported bulk elemental composition of the rocks. The MCS method was based on the sum of eight major elements, which is spatially more stable than one single major ele-ment as used in the IS method, and is quite constant among different rock samples. Calibrations were performed with standard reference materials NIST SRM 610, 612, 614, and 616. Little difference was found between using a single standard and a set of standards, because of the good linearity shown by the reference materials. Comparison of the two calibration methods shows that the MCS method produced better and more stable results than the IS method for heterogeneous samples. With the MCS method, approximately 94% to 95% of the total measurements are within the range of ±100% relative deviation, compared with 82% to 86% with the IS method. The IS method resulted insubstantial overestimations for some rock samples (e.g., 648% for Basalt BCR-2 using NIST SRM 610 as the calibration standard), while the largest deviation with the MCS method was 216% for U in Eagle Ford shale #80 sample. For Quartz latite QLO-1, a relative homogeneous sample, the IS method generated slightly better results than the MCS method. Regardless of method, spatially heterogeneous distribution of elements in the intact rock at the scale of the laser spot is considered to be the main reason for the large relative deviations seen in our work compared to published results.展开更多

In contrast to the conventional inverse heat conduction techniques, this calibration approach does not require explicit input of the probe locations, thermophysical properties of the host material and temperature sensor parameters related to thermal contact resistance, sensor capacitance and conductive lead losses. All those parameters and properties are inherently contained in the calibration framework in terms of Volterra integral equation of the first kind. The performance of this technique is demonstrated with a Monte Carlo simulation of an experimental case where biased calibration coefficients are employed. The real calibration coefficients are restored with less than 1% relative accuracy when a sufficient number of π~0 is detected. 文摘In this paper, responses of a new dual-induction resistivity logging-while-drilling (LWD) tool in 3D inhomogeneous formation models are simulated by the vectorfinite element method (VFEM), the influences of the borehole, invaded zone, surroundingstrata, and tool eccentricity are analyzed, and calibration loop parameters and calibrationcoefficients of the LWD tool are discussed. The results show that the tool has a greater depthof investigation than that of the existing electromagnetic propagation LWD tools and is moresensitive to azimuthal conductivity. Both deep and medium induction responses have linearrelationships with the formation conductivity, considering optimal calibration loop parametersand calibration coefficients. Due to the different depths of investigation and resolution, deepinduction and medium induction are affected differently by the formation model parameters, thereby having different correction factors. The simulation results can provide theoreticalreferences for the research and interpretation of the dual-induction resistivity LWD tools.

文摘The topography and electrical properties are two crucial characteristics that determine the roles and functionalities of materials.Conductive atomic force microscopy(CAFM)is widely recognized for its ability to independently measure the topography and conductivity. The increasing trend towards miniaturization in electrical devices and sensors has encouraged an urgent demand for enhancing the accuracy of CAFM characterization. However, when performing CAFM tests on Bi_(0.5)Na_(0.5)TiO_(3)bulk ceramic,it is interesting to observe significant currents related to the topography. Why do insulators exhibit“conductivity”in CAFM testing?Herein,we thoroughly investigated the topography-dependent current during CAFM testing for the first time.Based on the linear dependence between the current and the first derivative of topography, the calibration method has been proposed to eliminate the topographic crosstalk. This method is evaluated on Bi_(0.5)Na_(0.5)TiO_(3)bulk ceramic,one-dimensional(1D)ZnO nanowire,twodimensional(2D)NbOI_(2)flake,and biological lotus leaf. The corresponding results of negligible topography-interference current affirm the feasibility and universality of this calibration method. This work effectively addresses the challenge of topographic crosstalk in CAFM characterization, thereby preventing the erroneous estimation of the conductivity of any unknown sample.
文摘On-machine tool setting is a pivotal approach in achieving intelligent manufacturing, and laser tool setters have become a crucial component of smart machine tools.Laser tool setters play a crucial role in precisely measuring the dimensions of cutting tools during the part machining process, focusing on tool length and diameter. As a measuring instrument, the positions of the laser axis of the laser tool setter need to be accurately calibrated before use. However,in actual calibration scenarios, traditional calibration methods face challenges due to installation errors in the tool setter and geometric errors in the measuring rod.To address this issue, this study proposes a novel calibration method.Initially, the calibration mechanism of the laser beam axis is established.Based on the accurate mathematical model of the laser beam and the measuring rod,and using the polygon clipping algorithm, the mathematical mechanism of the laser tool setter’s work is established. Then,a novel method is introduced to calculate the compensation distance between the laser beam reference point and the rod bottom center point at each moment during calibration.Furthermore,by utilizing the kinematic chain of the tool setter calibration system,a new calibration method is developed to accurately calibrate the position of the laser beam axis in the machine tool coordinate system. Finally, the accuracy of the calibration method is verified through simulation experiments and calibration tests. This method improves the calibration accuracy of the tool setter, and the mathematical model of the laser tool setter can be extended to the measurement of tools, thereby improving the precision of tool measurements. This research significantly improves the efficient production performance of smart machine tools.

文摘Geometric error is the main factor affecting the machining accuracy of hybrid machine tools.Kinematic calibration is an effective way to improve the geometric accuracy of hybrid machine tools. The necessity to measure both position and orientation at each pose,as well as the instability of identification in case of incomplete measurements, severely affects the application of traditional calibration methods. In this study,a kinematic calibration method with high measurement efficiency and robust identification is proposed to improve the kinematic accuracy of a five-axis hybrid machine tool.First, the configuration is introduced, and an error model is derived.Further,by investigating the mechanism error characteristics,a measurement scheme that only requires tool centre point position error measurement and one alignment operation is proposed.Subsequently,by analysing the effects of unmeasured degrees of freedom(DOFs)on other DOFs,an improved nonlinear least squares method based on virtual measurement values is proposed to achieve stable parameter identification in case of incomplete measurement, without introducing additional parameters. Finally, the proposed calibration method is verified through simulations and experiments. The proposed method can efficiently accomplish the kinematic calibration of the hybrid machine tool. The accuracy of the hybrid machine tool is significantly improved after calibration, satisfying actual aerospace machining requirements.

文摘An accurate energy calibration of a 5"× 2" BC501A liquid scintillator-based neutron detector by means of photon sources and the unfolding of pulse height spectra are described. The photon responses were measured with 22Na, 137Cs and 54Mn photon sources and simulated using the GRESP code, which was developed at the Physiknlisch Technische Bundesanstalt in Germany. Pulse height spectra produced by three different photon sources were employed to investigate the effects of the unfolding techniques. It was found that the four unfolding codes of the HEPRO and UMG3.3 packages, including GRAVEL, UNFANA, MIEKE and MAXED, performed well with the test spectra and produced generally consistent results. They could therefore be used to obtain neutron energy spectra in toknmak experiments.
文摘In order to reduce the fluctuation of LIBS detection spectrum of liquid sample, the full-spectrum sum method and the internal standardization method is adopted, using an equal-RSD normalization algorithm to calibrate the detection spectrum.Experiment result shows that the full-spectrum sum method reduced the RSD of parallel samples of Cd and Cr to 9.4% and 11.06% from 28.32% and 31.93% respectively, yielded better overall calibration than the singleelement internal standardization approach, thereby suggesting that the former method is convenient and effective for online calibration of LIBS for detection of aqueous heavy metals.
文摘This paper describes a method for energy calibration of laterally segmented electromagnetic calorimeters based on the detection of two-photon decays of π~0 mesons. The calibration procedure performs a X^2 function minimization between the measured π~0 energy in the calorimeter and its expected energy deduced from the π~0 momentum direction. The performance of this technique is demonstrated with a Monte Carlo simulation of an experimental case where biased calibration coefficients are employed. The real calibration coefficients are restored with less than 1% relative accuracy when a sufficient number of π~0 is detected. This technique is applied to monitor daily the calibration coefficients of the calorimeter used in the Jefferson Lab Hall A DVCS experiments.
