High-performance microwave absorption(MA) materials must be studied immediately since electromagnetic pollution has become a problem that cannot be disregarded. A straightforward composite material, comprising hollow MXene spheres loaded with C–Co frameworks, was prepared to develop multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs). A high impedance and suitable morphology were guaranteed by the C–Co exoskeleton, the attenuation ability was provided by the MWCNTs endoskeleton, and the material performance was greatly enhanced by the layered core–shell structure. When the thickness was only 2.04 mm, the effective absorption bandwidth was 5.67 GHz, and the minimum reflection loss(RLmin) was-70.70 d B. At a thickness of 1.861 mm, the sample calcined at 700 ℃ had a RLmin of-63.25 d B. All samples performed well with a reduced filler ratio of 15 wt%. This paper provides a method for making lightweight core–shell composite MA materials with magnetoelectric synergy. 展开更多

The hollow porous structure with exceptional interfacial effect and customizable internal environment shows significant potential for application as electromagnetic shielding and absorption materials. However, designing hollow porous electromagnetic absorbers with both desirable impedance matching and high loss capability remains a challenge.Herein,3D hollow porous electromagnetic microspheres were constructed by assembling 0D Co magnetic nanoparticles,1D carbon nanotubes, and 2D carbon nanosheets.Due to the sufficient sites for Co^(2+)riveting,the high loading of magnetic carbon nanotubes(CoNC)and porous carbon spheres formed high-density interfaces, enhancing the interfacial polarization.Furthermore,high-density CoNC were grown in situ on the hollow porous carbon(HPC)microsphere, forming a highly dispersed 3D magnetic network that inhibited the aggregation of magnetic nanoparticles and enhanced magnetic coupling. Therefore, the asprepared CoNC/HPC microspheres exhibited excellent microwave absorption(MA)performance, with a minimum reflection loss of-33.2 dB and an effective bandwidth of 5.5 GHz at a thickness of only 1.8 mm.The interfacial polarization mechanism for enhanced MA performance was demonstrated by electron holography and density functional theory calculations.Magnetic holography and micromagnetic simulations also revealed magnetic confinement and coupling mechanism. This work provides a new approach for designing electromagnetic absorbers with optimized impedance matching and loss capability. 展开更多

Microwave absorption(MA)materials are essential for protecting against harmful electromagnetic radiation. In this study, highly efficient and ultrawide-band microwave-absorbing fabrics with superhydrophobic surface features were developed using a facile dip-coating method involving in situ graphene oxide(GO)reduction, deposition of TiO_(2)nanoparticles,and subsequent coating of a mixture of polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)and octadecylamine(ODA)on polyester fabrics.Owing to the presence of hierarchically structured surfaces and low-surface-energy materials, the resultant reduced GO(rGO)/TiO_(2)-ODA/PDMS-coated fabrics demonstrate superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of 159°and sliding angle of 5°.Under the synergistic effects of conduction loss, interface polarization loss, and surface roughness topography, the optimized fabrics show excellent microwave absorbing performances with a minimum reflection loss(RL_(min))of47.4 dB and a maximum effective absorption bandwidth(EAB_(max))of 7.7 GHz at a small rGO loading of 6.9 wt%.In addition, the rGO/TiO_(2)-ODA/PDMS coating was robust, and the coated fabrics could withstand repeated washing,soiling,long-term ultraviolet irradiation, and chemical attacks without losing their superhydrophobicity and MA properties. Moreover, the coating imparts self-healing properties to the fabrics. This study provides a promising and effective route for the development of robust and flexible materials with microwave-absorbing properties. 展开更多

Two-dimensional carbon-based materials have shown promising electromagnetic wave absorption capabilities in mid-and high-frequency ranges, but face challenges in low-frequency absorption due to limited control over polarization response mecha-nisms and ambiguous resonance behavior. In this study,we pro-pose a novel approach to enhance absorption efficiency in aligned three-dimensional(3D)MXene/CNF(cellulose nanofibers)cavities by modifying polarization properties and manipulating resonance response in the 3D MXene architecture. This controlled polarization mechanism results in a significant shift of the main absorption region from the X-band to the S-band,leading to a remarkable reflection loss value of-47.9 dB in the low-frequency range.Furthermore, our findings revealed the importance of the oriented electromagnetic coupling in influencing electromagnetic response and microwave absorption properties. The present study inspired us to develop a generic strategy for low-frequency tuned absorption in the absence of magnetic element participation, while orientation-induced polarization and the derived magnetic resonance coupling are the key controlling factors of the method. 展开更多

The advantages of Fe,Ni metals and one-dimensional(1D)carbon materials are combined in this study using a simple method to prepare FeNi/C nanofibers for electromagnetic microwave(EM)absorption. The prepared FeNi/C nanofibers exhibit excellent EM absorption performance under dielectric/magnetic synergistic effect. At a frequency of 13.3 GHz,the minimum reflection loss(RLmin)reaches-57.15 dB,and effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)is as high as 4.0 GHz(12.5-16.5 GHz),with a thickness and filling rate of only 1.6 mm and 30 wt.%,respectively.Analysis shows that the EM absorption performance of FeNi/C nanofibers far exceeds that of single-component nanofibers and pure carbon fibers, and the excellent EM absorption performance is due to its unique microstructure and excellent electromagnetic properties. The FeNi alloy loaded on carbon nanofibers forms rich heterogeneous interfaces, and the three-dimensional(3D)conductive network composed of 1D carbon fibers increases the migration path of electrons. In addition,FeNi alloy,as an impedance regulation factor, strengthens the dielectricity of the carbon matrix while providing multidimensional magnetism, achieving impedance matching. This work is thought to contribute to the promotion of emerging absorbers by providing a novel strategy for the development of new 1D magnetic carbon-based high-performance EM absorbing materials. 展开更多

The well-designed composite with satisfactory electromagnetic microwave absorption at high temperatures remains a serious challenge.Herein,we fabricated a resorcinol-formaldehyde/silica dioxide composite aerogel(RF/SiO_(2))with a three-dimensional network structure using sol-gel,atmospheric pressure drying technique as well as heat-treated processes to achieve enhanced microwave absorption capabilities in the low frequency range. The pristine RF/SiO_(2)aerogel presented a typical micropores structure with a surface area, porous volume, and density of 146.82 m^(2)/g,62.40%,and 0.28 cm^(3)/g,respectively.Remarkably,the RF/SiO_(2)aerogel showed an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.56 GHz and a minimum reflection loss value of-46.10 d B at 2.25 mm after being heat-treated at 1500°C,while the maximum effective absorption bandwidth was 3.60 GHz at 2.30 mm.The intricate three-dimensional networks possessed remarkable impedance matching, multiple attenuation mechanisms, interfacial polarization, and dielectric loss, which were attributed to the exceptional ability to absorb electromagnetic microwaves. It offered a fresh approach to creating adaptable and effective microwave absorption materials in military defense. 展开更多

The utilization of electromagnetic waves is rapidly advancing into the millimeter-wave frequency range, posing increasingly severe challenges in terms of electromagnetic pollution prevention and radar stealth. However, existing millimeter-wave absorbers are still inadequate in addressing these issues due to their monotonous magnetic resonance pattern. In this work,rare-earth La^(3+)and non-magnetic Zr^(4+)ions are simultaneously incorporated into M-type barium ferrite(BaM)to intentionally manipulate the multi-magnetic resonance behavior.By leveraging the contrary impact of La^(3+)and Zr^(4+)ions on magnetocrystalline anisotropy field, the restrictive relationship between intensity and frequency of the multi-magnetic resonance is successfully eliminated. The magnetic resonance peak-differentiating and imitating results confirm that significant multi-magnetic resonance phenomenon emerges around 35 GHz due to the reinforced exchange coupling effect between Fe^(3+)and Fe^(2+)ions.Additionally,Mosbauer spectra analysis,first-principle calculations, and least square fitting collectively identify that additional La^(3+)doping leads to a profound rearrangement of Zr^(4+)occupation and thus makes the portion of polarization/conduction loss increase gradually. As a consequence, the La^(3+)-Zr^(4+)co-doped BaM achieves an ultra-broad bandwidth of 12.5+GHz covering from 27.5 to 40+GHz,which holds remarkable potential for millimeter-wave absorbers around the atmospheric window of 35 GHz. 展开更多

It is well recognized that interfacial effect and/or impedance matching play a great impact on microwave absorption.Herein,we proposed a facile strategy to take full advantage of interface engineering and impedance matching for boosting microwave absorption performance(MAPs).Three-dimensional(3D)hierarchical urchin-like core@shell structured NiO/Ni@CNTs multicomponent nanocomposites(MCNCs)were elaborately constructed and produced in high efficiency through a facile continuous chemical bath deposition, thermal treatment, and catalytic chemical vapor decomposition process.By controlling the pyrolysis time, the NiO/Ni@CNTs urchin-like MCNCs with different lengths and aggregation degrees of CNTs could be selectively synthesized. The obtained results revealed that the enhanced CNT contents provided abundant interfaces and effectively aggrandized their interfacial effects, which resulted in improved polarization loss, conductivity loss, and comprehensive MAPs.Impressively, the interfaces and impedance matching in the designed NiO/Ni@CNTs urchin-like MCNCs could be optimized by regulating the pyrolysis temperature, which further improved the comprehensive MAPs.And the designed NiO/Ni@CNTs urchin-like MCNCs could simultaneously display strong absorption capabilities, broad absorption bandwidths, and thin matching thicknesses. Therefore, our findings not only provided a simple and universal approach to produce core@shell structured magnetic carbon-based urchin-like MCNCs but also presented an interface engineering and impedance matching strategy to develop the tunable, strong absorption, broadband, lightweight high-efficiency microwave absorbers. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)transition metal chalcogenides(TMCs)hold great promise as novel microwave absorption materials owing to their interlayer interactions and unique magnetoelectric properties. However, overcoming the impedance mismatch at the low loading is still a challenge for TMCs due to the restricted loss pathways caused by their high-density characteristic. Here,an interface engineering based on the heterostructure of 2D Cr_(5)Te_(8) and graphite is in situ constructed via a one-step chemical vapor deposit to modulate impedance matching and introduce multiple attenuation mechanisms.Intriguingly, the Cr_(5)Te_(8)@EG(ECT)heterostructure exhibits a minimum reflection loss of up to−57.6 dB at 15.4 GHz with a thin thickness of only 1.4 mm under a low filling rate of 10%.The density functional theory calculations confirm that the splendid performance of ECT heterostructure primarily derives from charge redistribution at the abundant intimate interfaces, thereby reinforcing interfacial polarization loss.Furthermore, the ECT coating displays a remarkable radar cross section reduction of 31.9 dB m^(2),demonstrating a great radar microwave scattering ability. This work sheds light on the interfacial coupled stimulus response mechanism of TMC-based heterogeneous structures and provides a feasible strategy to manipulate high-quality TMCs for excellent microwave absorbers. 展开更多

Cobalt ferrite(CoFe_(2)O_(4)),with good chemical stability and magnetic loss, can be used to prepare composites with a unique structure and high absorption. In this study,CoFe_(2)O_(4)@mesoporous carbon hollow spheres(MCHS)with a core-shell structure were prepared by introducing CoFe_(2)O_(4)magnetic particles into hollow mesoporous carbon through a simple in situ method. Then, the microwave absorption performance of the CoFe_(2)O_(4)@MCHS composites was investigated.Magnetic and dielectric losses can be effectively coordinated by constructing the porous structure and adjusting the ratio of MCHS and CoFe_(2)O_(4).Results show that the impedance matching and absorption properties of the Co Fe_(2)O_(4)@MCHS composites can be altered by tweaking the mass ratio of MCHS and CoFe_(2)O_(4).The minimum reflection loss of the Co Fe_(2)O_(4)@MCHS composites reaches-29.7 dB at 5.8 GHz.In addition, the effective absorption bandwidth is 3.7 GHz,with the thickness being 2.5 mm.The boosted microwave absorption can be ascribed to the porous core-shell structure and introduction of magnetic particles. The coordination between the microporous morphology and the core-shell structure is conducive to improving the attenuation coefficient and achieving good impedance matching. The porous core-shell structure provides large solid-void and CoFe_(2)O_(4)-C interfaces to induce interfacial polarization and extend the electromagnetic waves’multiple scattering and reflection.Furthermore, natural resonance, exchange resonance, and eddy current loss work together for the magnetic loss. This method provides a practical solution to prepare core-shell structure microwave absorbents. 展开更多

Two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides(MXene)have emerged as promising candidates for microwave absorption(MA)materials. However, they also have some drawbacks, such as poor impedance matching, high self-stacking tendency, and high density. To tackle these challenges,MXene nanosheets were incorporated into polyacrylonitrile(PAN)nanofibers and subsequently assembled into a three-dimensional(3D)network structure through PAN carbonization, yielding MXene/C aerogels. The 3D network effectively extends the path of microcurrent transmission, leading to enhanced conductive loss of electromagnetic(EM)waves. Moreover, the aerogel’s rich pore structure significantly improves the impedance matching while effectively reducing the density of the MXenebased absorbers.EM parameter analysis shows that the MXene/C aerogels exhibit a minimum reflection loss(RL_(min))value of−53.02 dB(f=4.44 GHz,t=3.8 mm),and an effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 5.3 GHz(t=2.4 mm,7.44–12.72 GHz).Radar cross-sectional(RCS)simulations were employed to assess the radar stealth effect of the aerogels, revealing that the maximum RCS reduction value of the perfect electric conductor covered by the MXene/C aerogel reaches 12.02 dB m^(2).In addition to the MA performance, the MXene/C aerogel also demonstrates good thermal insulation performance, and a 5-mm-thick aerogel can generate a temperature gradient of over 30℃ at 82℃.This study provides a feasible design approach for creating lightweight, efficient, and multifunctional MXene-based MA materials. 展开更多

Porous carbon-based materials are promised to be lightweight dielectric microwave absorbents.Deeply understanding the influence of graphitization grade and porous structure on the dielectric parameters is urgently required.Herein, utilizing the low boiling point of Zn,porous N-doped carbon was fabricated by carbonization of ZIF-8(Zn)at different temperature, and the microwave absorption performance was investigated. The porous N-doped carbon inherits the high porosity of ZIF-8 precursor.By increasing the carbonization temperature, the contents of Zn and N elements are decreased;the graphitization degree is improved;however, the specific surface area and porosity are increased first and then decreased. When the carbonization temperature is 1000°C,the porous N-doped carbon behaves enhanced microwave absorption. With an ultrathin thickness of 1.29 mm,the ideal RL reaches-50.57 dB at 16.95 GHz and the effective absorption bandwidth is 4.17 GHz.The mechanism of boosted microwave absorption is ascribed to the competition of graphitization and porosity as well as N dopants, resulting in high dielectric loss capacity and good impedance matching. The porous structure can prolong the pathways and raise the contact opportunity between microwaves and porous carbon, causing multiple scattering, interface polarization, and improved impedance matching.Besides, the N dopants can induce electron polarization and defect polarization. These results give a new insight to construct lightweight carbon-based microwave absorbents by regulating the graphitization and porosity. 展开更多

Reduced graphene oxide(rGO)aerogels are emerging as very attractive scaffolds for high-performance electromagnetic wave absorption materials(EWAMs)due to their intrinsic conductive networks and intricate interior microstructure,as well as good compatibility with other electromagnetic(EM)components.Herein,we realized the decoration of rGO aerogel with Mo_(2)C nanoparticles by sequential hydrothermal assembly,freeze-drying,and high-temperature pyrolysis. Results show that Mo_(2)C nanoparticle loading can be easily controlled by the ammonium molybdate to glucose molar ratio. The hydrophobicity and thermal insulation of the rGO aerogel are effectively improved upon the introduction of Mo_(2)C nanoparticles, and more importantly, these nanoparticles regulate the EM properties of the rGO aerogel to a large extent.Although more Mo_(2)C nanoparticles may decrease the overall attenuation ability of the rGO aerogel, they bring much better impedance matching. At a molar ratio of 1:1,a desirable balance between attenuation ability and impedance matching is observed. In this context, the Mo_(2)C/r GO aerogel displays strong reflection loss and broad response bandwidth, even with a small applied thickness(1.7 mm)and low filler loading(9.0wt%).The positive effects of Mo_(2)C nanoparticles on multifunctional properties may render Mo_(2)C/r GO aerogels promising candidates for high-performance EWAMs under harsh conditions. 展开更多

The demand of high-end electromagnetic wave absorbing materials puts forward higher requirements on comprehensive performances of small thickness, lightweight, broadband, and strong absorption.Herein,a novel multi-layer stepped metamaterial absorber with gradient electromagnetic properties is proposed. The complex permittivity and permeability of each layer are tailored via the proportion of carbonyliron and carbon-fiber dispersing into the epoxy resin. The proposed metamaterial is further optimized via adjusting the electromagnetic parameters and geometric sizes of each layer.Comparing with the four-layer composite with gradient electromagnetic properties which could only realize reflection loss(RL)of less than−6 dB in 2.0-40 GHz,the optimized stepped metamaterial with the same thickness and electromagnetic properties realizes less than−10 dB in the relevant frequency range.Additionally, the RL of less than−15 dB is achieved in the frequency range of 11.2-21.4 GHz and 28.5-40 GHz.The multiple electromagnetic wave absorption mechanism is discussed based on the experimental and simulation results, which is believed to be attributed to the synergy effect induced by multi-scale structures of the metamaterial. Therefore, combining multi-layer structures and periodic stepped structures into a novel gradient absorbing metamaterial would give new insights into designing microwave absorption devices for broadband electromagnetic protections. 展开更多

Lightweight and efficient carbon-based microwave absorbents are significant in addressing the increasing severity of electromagnetic pollution. In this study, hierarchical NiO/Ni nanosheets with a tuneable phase and morphology supported on a carbon fiber substrate(CF@NiO/Ni)were fabricated using a hydrothermal approach and post-annealing treatment. As the annealing temperature increases, more metallic Ni is formed, and an apparent porosity appears on the sheet surface.Benefiting from the advantages of a three-dimensional(3D)conducting network, hierarchical porous structure, reinforced dipole/interface polarization, multiple scattering, and good impedance matching, the CF@NiO/Ni-500 composite exhibits an excellent microwave absorption performance even at a filling rate of only 3wt%.Specifically,its minimal reflection loss is-43.92 dB,and the qualified bandwidth is up to 5.64 GHz.In addition, the low radar cross-section area of the CF@NiO/Ni composite coating confirms its strong ability to suppress electromagnetic wave scattering. We expect that this work could contribute to a deeper understanding of the phase and morphology evolution in enhancing microwave absorption. 展开更多

The easy-plane anisotropy of the Y_(2)Co_(17)rare earth soft magnetic alloy has high saturation magnetization and operating frequency, and good impedance matching. Therefore,it is expected to become a kind of high-performance microwave absorbing material. In this paper,Y_(2)Co_(17)alloy was prepared by a reduction-diffusion method, and its micropowder was prepared as polyurethane(PU)based composite absorbing materials(Y_(2)Co_(17)/PU composites). The microwave properties of composites with different volume fractions were calculated. The composites showed outstanding absorption characteristics in the range of 20-30 vol%,and the minimum reflection loss(RL)was less than-50 d B.When the volume fraction was25%,the effective absorption bandwidth could cover the X-band at a thickness of 1.5 mm,and the Ku-band at a thickness of1.08 mm.The absorption mechanism was analyzed by the interface reflection model. The RL absorption peak bandwidth mechanism was discussed by using the amplitude relation and calculating the effective absorption bandwidth at different thicknesses. The effective absorption bandwidth values were in good agreement with the theoretical expectation. 展开更多

In order to obtain the microwave absorption(MA)materials with light weight, high efficiency and tunable properties, the carbonized mesophase pitch(CMP)with the variation in carbonization temperatures and particle sizes were prepared and characterized. The carbonization temperature mainly controlled the graphitization degree of the CMP to affect their conductive loss. The carbon residues were generated on the CMP surface when the temperature was higher than 700℃,which contributed significantly to the polarization loss of the CMP.For scale regulation, the segregation between the particles in the paraffin ring caused by the reduction particles of CMP carbonization at 750℃(750 CMP)resulted in a significant reduction in conductive losses while improving their impedance matching. The 750 CMP over 300 mesh sieved had the strongest MA properties of-53 d B at 3.4 GHz within 5.5 mm.Moreover, the prepared CMPs were multi-layer compounded and optimized by CST microwave studio. The synergistic effect derived from the improved impedance matching and the enhanced interfacial polarization resulted in significant reflection loss in multi-layer CMP.Overall, these findings lead to the systematically regulation of carbon-based materials for MA,showing an attractive application prospect for the preparation of high-performance MA materials. 展开更多
