Core competencies and perceived training needs of nurses in the background of Internet plus nursing service:a qualitative descriptive study

Background:The Internet plus nursing service program is being piloted in China,which has become a new home nursing service model led by nurses.To enable safe and effective homecare service delivery,nurses working in the program need a high level of competency.However,the content of these core competencies and the training needs of nurses for Internet plus nursing services are still unknown.Aim:To describe nurses’perceptions of core competencies and training needs to work in the Internet plus nursing service program,thereby providing a reference for the development of training programs.Methods:A qualitative descriptive study using semi-structured interviews was conducted on 15 nurses with experience of working in the Internet plus nursing service program.Interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim,and the data were analyzed using thematic analysis.Results:Core competencies involved comprehensive assessment competence,direct care practice competence,health education and consulting competence,risk estimation and response competence,and communication competence.Training needs involved complex operational items,knowledge of chronic disease management,professional communication,risk identification and response,nursing standards,norms,and procedures,and utilization of information technology.Conclusions:The training system may be developed based on nurses’core competencies and their training needs to promote professional development of the Internet plus nursing service.

Entrepreneurship training:its influences on innovation potentials among nursing students

Objective:To evaluate the influences of entrepreneurship training on the innovation potential among nursing students.Methods:A quasi-experimental design was utilized to conduct this study.The study was conducted in the classroom at the faculty of nursing,and the“i Hub”center at Ain Shams University(ASU)in Cairo,Egypt.A purposive sample of 42 nursing students who participated in the“Ain Shams University-innovate”competition from the Faculty of Nursing of ASU were included in this study.Data collection tools included(1)Nursing students'innovation skills assessment questionnaire and(2)Innovative projects evaluation tool.Results:There was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of nursing students'total innovation skills pre-and post-implementation of entrepreneurship training,where P-value<0.05.Conclusions:The results of the current study support the research hypothesis because the implementation of entrepreneurship training positively affects nursing students'innovation potential.Developing entrepreneurship education in nursing and integrating it into nursing programs will stimulate creativity,innovation,and entrepreneurship among nursing students and health care services.

A Bibliometric Study on The Application of Progressive Muscle Relaxation Training in The Nursing Field in China

Objective:To systematically analyze the research status and application of progressive muscle relaxation training(PMRT)in the nursing field in China,and provide a reference basis for scientific research in this field.Methods:The bibliometric method was adopted in“progressive muscle relaxation training”or“PMRT,”and“nursing.”The established database was included in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)and the Wanfang Medical Network.The relevant articles in the Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database(VIP)were analyzed.Results:A total of 169 literatures were included.The journals,years,and regions of literature publication were uneven,mainly originating from the eastern region(43.19%),and listed the application of progressive muscle relaxation training in the field of nursing in China.Intervention literature information was mainly dominated by experimental studies(97%).Conclusion:The related research and application of progressive muscle relaxation training in nursing in China is increasing,but there is a lack of objective evaluation of outcome indicators and a short intervention period.Further research should be conducted in the future to effectively guide the development of PMRT in the field of nursing in China.

Preparedness training programs improved the emergency response and crucial outcomes among nursing students:a scoping review

Objective:The study aims to review and discuss the outcomes of emergency preparedness training programs among nursing students.Methods:A scoping review was conducted based on the guidelines of Arskey and O’Malley.Databases through PubMed,Science Direct,and Google Scholar were used to obtain the relevant articles within the scoping review.Results:The researchers found 1175 articles.After manual review,28 articles were identified and assessed.The review reported that the emergency preparedness training program significantly affects preparedness,knowledge,performance,self-efficacy,learning motivation,self-confidence,satisfaction,critical decision-making,and problem-solving.Conclusions:Emergency training effectively increases knowledge,skills,confidence,satisfaction,and team performance.

Education of Hospitalized Diabetic Patients: Analysis of Training Needs among Nurses in a Lebanese Hospital - A Secondary Publication

The design of diabetes inpatient educational preparation should be based on the needs of the nurses involved in terms of skills in this area. The objective of this qualitative study is to identify the preparatory needs of nurses working in the medical and surgical units of a Lebanese hospital in terms of Survival Skills Education for Hospitalized Diabetic Patients (SSEHDP). Method: The focus group method is used for data collection using a semi-structured interview guide. The needs expressed by the thirty-two participating nurses were classified into categories of the competency framework for providing self-management education to diabetic patients proposed by the American Diabetes Association. Results: By focusing on the themes of an SSEHDP, a list of preparatory needs was drawn up. The needs identified and analyzed are then translated into general and specific learning objectives for educational preparation. Conclusion: The needs analysis is only the first step in a work that will ideally continue into the implementation and eventual evaluation of an educational program developed to help nurses acquire skills in the education of diabetic patients.

Influence of standardized nursing intervention combined with mindfulness stress reduction training on the curative effect in patients with acute pancreatitis

BACKGROUND Acute pancreatitis(AP)is a common inflammatory disease of the pancreas with high mortality rates.It is of great significance to take scientific intervention measures for patients with AP in time.AIM To explore the effect of standardized nursing combined with mindfulness stress reduction training on the curative effect,negative emotion,and quality of life in patients with acute pancreatitis.METHODS A total of 80 patients with acute pancreatitis admitted to The First People's Hospital of Jiangxia District Hospital from May 2021 to May 2023 were randomly divided into control group and observation group(n=40).Patients in control group were given the standardized nursing intervention,and the observation group were given standardized nursing plus mindfulness stress reduction training intervention.The time of clinical symptom disappeared or improved,complication occurrence rate,emotional state,and quality of life score of the two groups were observed and compared.RESULTS In comparison with the control group,the bowel sound recovery time,ventosity and abdominal pain improvement time,and venting and cacation time in observation group were shorter,and the total incidence rate of complications was reduced,showing statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The scores of anxiety and depression in observation group were lower than those in control group(P<0.05).Serum levels of tumour necrosis factor alpha,interleukin(IL)-6,IL-1βand IL-8 in observation group were lower than those in control group(P<0.05).The scores of life quality in physiology,psychology,environment and social relations in observation group were higher than those in control group,and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The application of standardized nursing intervention combined with mindfulness stress reduction training in patients with acute pancreatitis has a definite effect,which can help to ameliorate the clinical symptoms,anxiety and depression of patients,reduce the incidence rate of complications,and improve the prognosis of patients.

The Utility Model Relates to a Training Platform for Neurosurgery Multi-Purpose Medical Nursing Worker

With the development of medical level, specialized, refined and multidisciplinary collaborative therapy is the requirement and main development direction of neurosurgery. With the improvement of people’s medical awareness, people cannot meet the simple surgical treatment, and there is a great demand for nursing treatment. At the same time, the demand for efficiency and convenience of medical nursing practice teaching continues to improve, and the multi-functional medical nursing training innovation platform has been paid more and more attention. The rapid development of material technology as well as digitalization has brought about a huge change, and we have created a multifunctional, spatially efficient and easy-to-transfer information platform for medical care training. A base box, placement drawer, platform board and display are used as the base module and the base module is filled with specific functional components. Lifting and lowering using motors and spiral base, moving using universal wheels. These devices together constitute the training platform. A survey of students and teachers was conducted through a questionnaire, and they all gave very good feedback that the multi-functional platform was very practical and useful. This platform effectively solves the drawbacks of the original training platform which is time-consuming, laborious and inconvenient, and is worthy of further promotion and research.

Construction of clinical research nurse training program based on position competence

BACKGROUND As one of the most important members in clinical trials,the number of clinical research nurses(CRN)can't keep up with the growth of experimental projects,so it is urgent to build clinical research training and strengthen the background knowledge of nurses.AIM To construct CRN training program based on position competence,accelerate the construction of CRN talent pool,and provide scientific guidance significance for CRN training.METHODS Based on the position competence model,combined with literature research and qualitative interview results,the first draft was prepared of the CRN training program.Two rounds of correspondence with 16 experts were conducted using the Delphi method to determine the training program.RESULTS The effective recovery rate of the expert correspondence questionnaire was 100%and the authority coefficients of the 2 rounds of experts were 0.826 and 0.895.Finally,4 first-level indicators and determine 15 s-level indicators of training objectives.The training program included 4 first-level indicators,training requirements,content,methods,assessment and evaluation,15 s-level indicators,and 74 third-level indicators.CONCLUSION The CRN training program based on position competence is scientific and extendable,providing a basis for participation in CRN training.

Effect of Training Nurses in ICU in Immediate Care Post Cardiac Surgery

The specialty of cardiovascular surgical nursing has advanced patient care significantly both before and after surgery, and it is now a well-established field. The primary goal of cardiovascular surgical nursing is to optimize the patient's recovery and prevent complications. Immediate nursing care for post-operative cardiac patients in a state of controlled shock due to fluid shift and varying vascular tone. Aim of the Study: Assessment of nurse’s knowledge and performance after the training program of nursing care immediately after a patient arrives from cardiac surgery. Methods: This pre and post-intervention study was conducted at cardiac centers in Sudan Alshaab and Ahmed Gasim Cardiac Center. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact on nurses’ performance after training program post open-heart surgery. In the initial phase of the study, all 98 nurses working in the intensive care units at Alshaab and Ahmed Gasim cardiac centers were designated as the study group and evaluated before the intervention. Subsequently, the same group was reassessed after the intervention (phase 2), allowing for a comparison of the pre- and post-intervention results. The assessment involved the use of a specifically designed questionnaire and an observation checklist developed in accordance with the standards recommended by the American Nurses Association (phase 3). Result: Descriptive analysis was performed using the Chi-square test, the difference in the performance between the study group before intervention and after the intervention was assessed by the mean of chi-square significantly was taken as p < 0.05.

Analysis on nursing competence and training needs of dementia caregivers in long-term care institutions

Objective:It is aimed to investigate the nursing competence and corresponding influence factors of dementia caregivers in long-term care institutions of Tianjin and identify the training needs of caregivers.Methods:In the cross-section survey of this study,246 dementia caregivers were selected from 6 long-term care institutions in Tianjin as objects of study through convenient sampling.Results:The scores for nursing competence of dementia caregivers were 140.28±7.73,at a moderate level.Study findings that nursing competence of dementia caregivers were positively associated with the work experience(β=0.115,P=0.005),educational level(β=0.333,P<0.01),pervdceived health status(β=0.108,P=0.003)and training times within 1 year(β=0.371,P<0.01).Through the analysis,it is found that the training needs of dementia caregivers are inconsistent with the current situation in terms of content,methods and teachers.There are some problems in the training,such as unreasonable time,single mode and not deepening the understanding of the elderly with dementia.Conclusion:Long term care institutions shall arrange training no less than 12 times a year and evaluate training needs regularly to improve training effect.Providing online and offline training and adding more specialized contents like case analysis,employing experts in the field of dementia to teach courses.

Timing theory continuous nursing,resistance training:Rehabilitation and mental health of caregivers and stroke patients with traumatic fractures

BACKGROUND Stroke is the leading cause of adult lifelong disability worldwide.A stroke is an acute cerebrovascular disease with a variety of causes and corresponding clinical symptoms.Around 75%of surviving stroke patients experience impaired nerve function,and some suffer from traumatic fractures,which can lead to special care needs.AIM To determine the effect of timing theory continuous care,with resistance training,on the rehabilitation and mental health of caregivers and stroke patients with traumatic fractures.METHODS Between January 2017 to March 2021,we selected 100 hospital admissions with post-stroke hemiplegia complicated with a traumatic fracture.Two participant groups were created:(1)Control group:given resistance training;and(2)Observation group:given timing theory continuous care combined with resistance training.The degree of satisfaction and differences in bone and phosphorus metabolism indexes between the two groups were compared.The self-perceived burden scale(SPBS)and caregiver burden questionnaire were used to evaluate the psychological health of patients and caregivers.The Harris hip function score,ability of daily living(ADL)scale,and global quality of life questionnaire(GQOL-74)were used to evaluate hip function,ability of daily living,and quality of life.RESULTS Data were collected prior to and after intervention.Alkaline phosphatase(ALP),osteocalcin,and vitamin D3 in the observation group and control group increased after intervention(P<0.05),and carboxy-terminal peptide of type I collagenβSpecial sequence(β-CTX)decreased(P<0.05).ALP and osteocalcin in the observation group were higher than in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference inβ-CTX and vitamin D3 between the two groups(P>0.05).The SPBS score of the observation group was lower and the ADL score was higher than the control group.The burden score was lower and the Harris hip function and GQOL-74 scores were higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).The observation group’s satisfaction rating was 94.00%,which was higher than the rating from the control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Timing theory continuous nursing with resistance training can reduce hip dysfunction in stroke patients with a traumatic fracture and enhance quality of life and mental health of patients and caregivers.

Remote nursing training model combined with proceduralization in the intensive care unit dealing with patients with COVID-19

The shortage of personal protective equipment and lack of proper nursing training have been endangering health care workers dealing with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).In our treatment center,the implementation of a holistic care model of time-sharing management for severe and critical COVID-19 patients has further aggravated the shortage of intensive care unit(ICU)professional nurses.Therefore,we developed a short-term specialized and targeted nursing training program to help ICU nurses to cope with stress and become more efficient,thus reducing the number of nurses required in the ICU.In order to avoid possible human-to-human spread,small teaching classes and remote training were applied.The procedural training mode included four steps:preparation,plan,implementation,and evaluation.An evaluation was conducted throughout the process of nursing training.In this study,we documented and shared experiences in transitioning from traditional face-to-face programs to remote combined with proceduralization nursing training mode from our daily work experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic,which has shown to be helpful for nurses working in the ICU.

Effects of Progressive Muscle Relaxation Training Combined with Emotion Nursing of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Motor Function and Quality of Life in Patients with Cerebral Stroke Complicated with Hemiplegia

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effects of progressive muscle relaxation training combined with emotion nursing of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) on the motor function and quality of life in patients with cerebral stroke complicated with hemiplegia. METHODS: A total of 100 cases of patients with cerebral stroke complicated with hemiplegia who were admitted to Rehabilitation Medicine Department of Suzhou Municipal Hospital from May 2016 to May 2017 were selected and randomly divided into study group(50 cases) and control group(50 cases), and they were nursed for 1 month. Control group was given routine nursing, and study group was given progressive muscle relaxation training combined with TCM emotion nursing on the basis of routine nursing. The scores of all items were obtained by nurses through questionnaires, and the motor function and quality of life were analyzed and compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS: After nursing, the scores of muscle strength, Barthel index(BI) and Fugl-Meyer motor function scales in study group were higher than those in control group(P < 0.05). The facing scores of coping style in study group were higher than those in control group, and the avoidance score and yielding score were lower than those in control group(P < 0.05). The scores of depression and anxiety in study group were lower than those in control group(P < 0.05). The scores of items in SF-36 life scale in study group were higher than those in control group(P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Progressive muscle relaxation training combined with TCM emotion nursing is conducive to the recovery of motor function and improvement of quality of life in patients with cerebral stroke complicated with hemiplegia.

Development of student simulated patient training and evaluation indicators in a high-fidelity nursing simulation:a Delphi consensus study

Objective:This study is aimed to develop student simulated patient(SSP)training content and evaluation indicators,and further explores their validity and reliabilities.Methods:Delphi consultations with 20 nursing exper ts were conducted.The weights of indicators were calculated through the analytic hierarchy process.SSP training was conducted with a high-fidelity nursing simulation.Results:The expert positive coefficients were 0.952 in the first round consultation and 1.00 in the second round consultation.The expert authority coefficient was reported as 0.87.The training included role and responsibility of simulated patient(SP),script interpretation,plot performance,and training for a rater,with a total of 17 indicators.SSP evaluation consisted of disease knowledge,role portrayal,and performance fidelity and since being a rater,it consists of 20 indicators in total.The coordination coefficients of two rounds of consultation ranged from 0.530 to 0.918.The content validity of SSP evaluation indicators was 0.95.The inter-rater reliability was repor ted as 0.866,and the internal consistency established using Cronbach’sαwas 0.727.Conclusions:Students as SPs should have first-hand knowledge and experience within the simulated scenarios.SSP training content and evaluation indicators were determined through the Delphi consensus combined with analytic hierarchy process.The evaluation indicators were valid and reliable,and provided the objective and quantifiable measurements for SSP training in nursing。

Clinical Preceptor’s Role in the Development of Nursing Training Based on Professional and Competency Frameworks in Two Health Care Facilities of Bujumbura

Background: The aim of clinical preceptors is to support the development of expertise related to the preceptorship of groups of trainees among nurses in clinical settings by the acquisition and use of theoretical knowledge, know-how and know-that. The support of students remains a major problem in hospitals, because the requirements of the preceptors according to the standards are not considered. The lack of guidelines on nursing preceptorships, theoretical application based on the professional curriculum, and professional expertise were the main problems assessed in the two Health Care (HUCK, VNC) in this study. The purpose of this study is to assess the knowledge of nurses and learners during their preceptorship practices and to contribute to the direction of evidence-based preceptorship. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used in this study during the 3-month period. A sample of 121 nurses as well as 56 learners were selected from 381 nurses and 80 learners using Alain Bouchard’s formula. A questionnaire developed according to the guidelines of Ernestine Wiedenbach’s theory of care, was distributed. The data were analyzed using the Microsoft Excel and the software program version 16 (SPSS-16). Results: The current study found that the majority of nurses do not know the importance of the clinical tutor. The results state that students experience clinical practice problems, thus clinical preceptorship is required. Nurses showed that there are different barriers often encountered during their practices. The overall nurse preceptorship process is not optimal and the average of 97.6% of nurses does not have expertise in coaching interns in clinical settings. Conclusion: Although that nurses have some experience at work, they express their weakness based on a low level of education, a lack of knowledge and trained professionals on the job, and clinical preceptorship guidelines.

Nurses’ Knowledge, Practice, and Confidence after the Training Program on Wound Care at the Agriculture General Hospital in Vietnam

Aims: Wound care is the basic technique in patient care which has direct effects on treatment outcome. However, the Agriculture General Hospital (AGH), Vietnam, has never organized a continuing professional development (CPD) training program based on Vietnam’s Basic Nursing Competency Standards (VNBNCS) for their nurses. This study aimed to examine the knowledge, practice, and confidence level among nurses at the AGH after 12 months of implementing a VNBNCS-based wound care training program. Methodology: This descriptive and comparative study assessed the changes in knowledge, practice, and confidence scores of 43 nurses at five clinical departments before and 12 months after the training program (April 2018 to June 2019). Data were collected using a self-administrated knowledge questionnaire with 48 items, a 13-item confidence checklist, and a 16-item skills checklist. EpiData 3.1 and SPSS 18.0 were used to enter and analyze data, respectively. Results: The mean scores of knowledge (113.70 ± 14.75 vs. 129.7 ± 19.6), and practice (63.21 ± 19.99 vs. 132.07 ± 4.31) statistically significantly increased 12 months after training (p < 0.001). The mean score of confidence in performing wound care increased in all of the 13 aspects (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Nurses’ wound care-related knowledge, practice, and confidence have improved 12 months after training. This demonstrates the VNBNCS-based wound care training program developed by Viet Duc University Hospital is suitable for use in the AGH and has achieved its promising initial outcomes. This program should be duplicated in other health facilities.

Effectiveness of combining manual external defibrillator and automated external defibrillator training for third-year nurse students

Purpose:To assess the effectiveness of automated external defibrillator(AED)and manual external defibrillator(MED)training for third-year nurse students.Methods:We conducted post-demonstration and post-practice evaluation for MED defibrillation,and pre-training,post-demonstration,and post-practice evaluation for AED defibrillation.Results:Following MED training,time and confidence to defibrillate were improved significantly post-practice(p<0.001,p<0.001,respectively).In post-demonstration and postpractice evaluation,most students placed electrodes correctly(84.21%vs.80.70%),cleared before defibrillation(75.44%vs.89.47%),and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately after defibrillation(81.81%vs.94.44%);the evaluations were not statistically different(p=0.806,p=0.094,p=0.198,respectively).For AED training,time and confidence to defibrillate post-demonstration and post-practice were significantly improved(p<0.001 vs.p<0.001;p<0.001 vs.p<0.001,respectively)compared to that of pre-training;there was no obvious difference between the post-demonstration and postpractice evaluation(p=0.235,=0.346,respectively).Post-AED demonstration,most students could place electrodes correctly(85.96%),clear(91.23%),and perform CPR immediately after defibrillation(85.96%),which remained at a high level post-practice(94.74%,85.96%,82.46%,respectively);there was no significant difference between the two evaluations(p=0.203,p=0.557,p=0.776,respectively).Conclusion:Combining MED and AED defibrillation training is effective and feasible for third-year nurse students.Minimal training is effective for AED,while MED requires additional practice.

Education Programs for Invasive Procedures Involving Nurses: A Scoping Review

Background: Implementing invasive procedures is an important part of patient management by clinical nurses;however, there are gaps between nurses’ actual knowledge and skills and expected professional care capacity. Purpose: This scoping review aimed to map the existing literature related to recent institution-provided educational programs for invasive procedures involving clinical nurses. This study seeks to understand the contents of educational programs and the methods for assessing educational effects. Methods: This scoping review was completed using the following four databases: PubMed (MEDLINE), Embase, Cochrane Library, and Emcare for the period 2000-2022. We included studies that used all forms of educational approaches (e.g., didactic lectures, hands-on training, or on-the-job training). This scoping review considered peer-reviewed publications published in English using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed approaches. A total of 83 studies underwent in the final analysis. Results and Conclusion: A combination of didactic lectures and hands-on training was provided as an educational program in most studies. Contrary to our prediction, educational interventions with advanced technologies such as VR are extremely rare, suggesting that the effectiveness of advanced technologies in learning invasive procedures should be examined to facilitate and retain educational effects more efficiently in future studies. Regarding the assessment of educational effects, nurses’ cognitive (i.e., theoretical knowledge about procedures), psychomotor (i.e., implementing procedures), and psychological aspects (e.g., confidence and self-efficacy in procedures) were evaluated using questionnaires and observational methods. While most studies used a one-group pretest-posttest design, the ratio of randomized controlled trials (RCT) was relatively low. Thus, an RCT design should be introduced in future studies to test the validity of the developed educational program more accurately.

Constructing a caring training content for nurse managers:a Delphi study

Objective: To design a scientific, feasible caring training content for nurse managers. Methods: Training content came from review of literature;all the content were sorted out, analyzed, and compiled by the research team. Then, a Delphi method was used to collect opinions from experts on the caring training contents. Results: A 22-member multidisciplinary panel was engaged in a two-round Delphi process to assess the importance of the items and to identify any additional elements. Consensus was obtained on 23 items that belonged to four modules. There were 10 items related to caring knowledge and caring ability, six items related to caring leadership, three items related to caring education, and four items related to caring research. Conclusions: The four-module integrated training contents achieved in this study represented the core caring knowledge and skills that a nurse manager who worked in hospital needed to know. Nurse managers can choose any module to have a system learning according to their practical needs, totally or separately.
