The absorption in a multilayered thin-film bi-grating has been of considerable interest since we can expect more complex behaviors in the absorption phenomen by virtue of the presence of double periodicity and multilayer structure. In solving the problem, we employed a computational technique based on modal expansion. Taking a sandwiched structure /Ag/SiO2/Ag/ for an example, we observed: 1) excitation of a single-interface surface plasmon mode at the lit surface of the 1st Ag layer with strong field enhancement for thick enough Ag layer case;2) excitation of coupled short-range or long-range surface plasmon modes at each surface between vacuum and Ag layers with strong field enhancements for thin enough Ag layer cases no matter with the thickness of SiO2 layers;3) enhancements of field at surfaces between Ag and SiO2 layers in some cases related with the thickness of SiO2 layers. The coupled plasmon modes were resulted by the resonance waves on four surfaces in these cases.展开更多

We analyze the 3D deformations of a multilayered, linear elastic, anisotropic rectangular plate subjected to arbitrary boundary conditions on one edge and simply supported on other edge. The rectangular laminate consists of anisotropic and homogeneous laminae of arbitrary thicknesses. This study presents the elastic analysis of laminated composite plates subjected to sinusoidal mechanical loading under arbitrary boundary conditions. Least square finite element solutions for displacements and stresses are investigated using a mathematical model, called a state-space model, which allows us to simultaneously solve for these field variables in the composite structure’s domain and ensure that continuity conditions are satisfied at layer interfaces. The governing equations are derived from this model using a numerical technique called the least-squares finite element method (LSFEM). These LSFEMs seek to minimize the squares of the governing equations and the associated side conditions residuals over the computational domain. The model is comprised of layerwise variables such as displacements, out-of-plane stresses, and in- plane strains, treated as independent variables. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the response of the laminated composite plates under various arbitrary boundary conditions using LSFEM and compared with the 3D elasticity solution available in the literature.展开更多

The blepharoplast appears in the young spermatid. The differentiating blepharoplast is approximately a spherical body, which is composed of densely stained granular material in the center and some cylinders outside of it. The differentiated blepharoplast is also a sphere, but without the densely stained material in the center, consisting of scattered or radially arranged cylinders. The MLS seen in the spermatid lies between the basal bodies and the giant mitochondrion. In the early developmental stage, the MLS only consists of lamellar layers, each of which runs parallel to one another and forms a strip. In the mid stage, the MLS is composed of the microtubular ribbon (MTr), the lamellar layers and a layer of plaque. In the late stage, the MLS forms accessory band, osmiophilic crest and a layer of osmiophilic material. The MTr grows out from the MLS and extends along the surface of the nucleus to unite with the nuclear envelope in a complex. The basal body coming from the cylinder produces the axoneme of the flagella in the distal end and the wedge-shaped structure in the proximal end, respectively. In the present study, the ultrastructural features of blepharoplast and the MLS of the protoleptosporangiopsida fern, O. cinnamomea var. asiatica, have been described and compared with those of other kinds of pteridophytes in detail. The lamellar layers appearing before the formation of the MTr was found and reported for the first time.展开更多

The reflected and transmitted beam fields of an LG beam are derived. In the case where the principal coordinates of the uniaxial anisotropic media coincide with the global coordinates, the reflected and transmitted beam intensities from a uniaxial anisotropic slab and three-layered media are numerically simulated. It is shown that the reflected intensity components of the incident beam, especially the TM polarized incident beam, are smaller than the transmitted intensity components. The distortion of the reflected intensity component is more evident than that of the transmitted intensity component. The distortion of intensity distribution is greatly affected by the dielectric tensor and the thickness of anisotropic media. We finally extend the application of the method to general anisotropic multilayered media.展开更多

The original Stefan equation was derived for only a homogeneous medium, and some algorithms have been developed for its use in a multilayered system. However, although the Stefan equation was derived more than 100 years ago, there is not a unified understanding for its use in a multilayered system. This paper examines the use of the Stefan equation in multilayered soil, based on comparing three algorithms(JL-algorithm, NM-algorithm, and XG-algorithm). We conclude that the JL and NM algorithms are incorrect, as they arose from flawed mathematical derivations. Both of these algorithms failed to recognize that the thawing depth in a multilayered soil is a piecewise function and not a continuous function of time. This work asserts that the XG-algorithm is a correct and rigorous method to determine the freezing–thawing fronts in multilayered soil.展开更多

Attenuation is introduced to a three-layered composite plate by an adhesive bond layer with viscous behavior. No changes are required to the transfer matrix formulation for the propagation of elastic waves. By introduction of a complex wavenumber, the model can be used to the propagation of attenuative Lamb waves. Numerical examples for a three-layered aluminium-epoxy-aluminium plate show that attenuation values of each mode in plates are related not only to attenuation, but also to the thickness of the bonded layer, which is in agreement with practical situations.展开更多

This letter reports the special properties of elastic wave propagation in magnetoelastic multilayered composites with negative permeability as compared to those in counterpart structures with positive permeability. These novel properties of elastic waves are discerned from the diversified dispersion curves, which represent the propagation and attenuation characteristics of elastic waves. To compute these dispersion curves, the method of reverberation-ray matrix is extended for the analysis of elastic waves in magnetoelastic multilayered composites. Although only the results of a single piezomagnetic and a binary magnetoelastic layers with mechanically free and magnetically short surfaces as well as perfect interface are illustrated in the numerical examples, the analysis is applicable to magnetoelastic multilayered structures with other kinds of boundaries/interfaces.展开更多

The structure andcomposition of the coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Augerelectron spectroscopy (AES). A high adhesion of up to 80 N was demonstrated by scratching tests forthe multi-layered coatings. Nanoindentation tests were performed to determine the hardness andelastic modulus of the coatings as a function of the multiplayer modulation period. It was observedthat the hardness of the multilayered coatings is higher than those of either TiN or CrN singlecoatings, and it increases with decreasing modulation periods, which is consistent with predictionsfrom the Hall-Petch type strengthening mechanism, though at small modulation periods, deviation fromthe Hall-Petch relation has been observed for the multilayered coatings. At FAr:FN2=10, the multilayered coating possessed desirable hardness, elastic modulus, internal stress, and fracture resistance, compared with ones synthesized at other Ar/N2 flow rates. The layered structure with strong mixture of TaN (110), (111), (200) and Nb2N (101)textures should be related to the enhanced mechanical properties.

文摘The study of transient heat conduction in multilayered slabs is widely used in various engineering fields. In this paper, the transient heat conduction in multilayered slabs with general boundary conditions and arbitrary heat generations is analysed. The boundary conditions are general and include various combinations of Dirichlet, Neumann or Robin boundary conditions at either surface. Moreover, arbitrary heat generations in the slabs are taken into account. The solutions are derived by basic methods, including the superposition method, separation variable method and orthogonal expansion method. The simplified double-layered analytical solution is validated by a numerical method and applied to predicting the temporal and spatial distribution of the temperature inside a landfill. It indicates the ability of the proposed analytical solutions for solving the wide range of applied transient heat conduction problems.
文摘Free vibration analysis of quadrilateral multilayered graphene sheets(MLGS) embedded in polymer matrix is carried out employing nonlocal continuum mechanics. The principle of virtual work is employed to derive the equations of motion. The Galerkin method in conjunction with the natural coordinates of the nanoplate is used as a basis for the analysis. The dependence of small scale effect on thickness, elastic modulus, polymer matrix stiffness and interaction coefficient between two adjacent sheets is illustrated. The non-dimensional natural frequencies of skew, rhombic, trapezoidal and rectangular MLGS are obtained with various geometrical parameters and mode numbers taken into account, and for each case the effects of the small length scale are investigated.

文摘The Stefan equation provides a useful and widely used method for predicting the depth of thawing and freezing in a soil where little site-specific information is available. This work asserts that the XG-algorithm is a correct and rigorous method to determine the freezing–thawing fronts in multilayered soil.
文摘The effect of introducing attenuation on Lamb wave dispersion curves is studied in this paper. Numerical examples for a three-layered aluminium-epoxy-aluminium plate show that attenuation values of each mode in plates are related not only to attenuation, but also to the thickness of the bonded layer, which is in agreement with practical situations.

文摘A self-adaptive differential evolution neutron spectrum unfolding algorithm(SDENUA)is established in this study to unfold the neutron spectra obtained from a water-pumping-injection multilayered concentric sphere neutron spectrometer(WMNS).Specifically, the neutron fluence bounds are estimated to accelerate the algorithm convergence, and the minimum error between the optimal solution and input neutron counts with relative uncertainties is limited to 10^(-6)to avoid unnecessary calculations.Furthermore, the crossover probability and scaling factor are self-adaptively controlled.FLUKA Monte Carlo is used to simulate the readings of the WMNS under(1)a spectrum of Cf-252 and(2)its spectrum after being moderated,(3)a spectrum used for boron neutron capture therapy,and(4)a reactor spectrum.Subsequently, the measured neutron counts are unfolded using the SDENUA.The uncertainties of the measured neutron count and the response matrix are considered in the SDENUA,which does not require complex parameter tuning or an a priori default spectrum. The results indicate that the solutions of the SDENUA agree better with the IAEA spectra than those of MAXED and GRAVEL in UMG 3.1,and the errors of the final results calculated using the SDENUA are less than 12%.The established SDENUA can be used to unfold spectra from the WMNS.

文摘We propose an ultra-broadband and polarization independent planar absorber comprising multilayered graphene. The bandwidth of the proposed absorber is extended by increasing the number of layers of graphene, and it is polarization independent due to its symmetrical unit structure. The full wave simulation results show that an absorber with three graphenebased layers can efficiently harvest an electromagnetic wave with random polarization from 17.9 GHz to 188.7 GHz(i.e.,covering frequency regimes from K to D bands and relative bandwidth of - 165%). The physical absorption mechanism of ultra-broadband absorption has been elaborated upon using the destructive interference method and multiple resonances approach in a multilayered medium. The proposed absorber can be used in many applications such as medical treatment, electromagnetic compatibility, and stealth technique.

文摘With the advent of left-handed magnetic materials, it is desirable to develop high-performance wave devices based on their novel properties of wave propagation. Although only the results of a single piezomagnetic and a binary magnetoelastic layers with mechanically free and magnetically short surfaces as well as perfect interface are illustrated in the numerical examples, the analysis is applicable to magnetoelastic multilayered structures with other kinds of boundaries/interfaces.

文摘TiN/CrN multilayered hard coatings with TiCrN interlayer were deposited onhigh speed steel substrates by using a filtered cathodic vacuum arc technique. The life-span of drillscoated with TiN/CrN multilayered is triple as long as that coated with TiN layer.
