Stability of multiple fans in mine ventilation networks

In large mines,single fan is usually not enough to ventilate all the working areas.Single mine-fan approach cannot be directly applied to multiple-fan networks because the present of multiple pressures and air quantities associated with each fan in the network.Accordingly,each fan in a multiple-fan system has its own mine characteristic curve,or a subsystem curve.Under some consideration,the conventional concept of a mine characteristic curve of a single-fan system can be directly extended to that of a particular fan within a multiple-fan system.In this paper the mutual effect of the fans on each other and their effect on the stability of the ventilation network were investigated by Hardy Cross algorithm combined with a switching-parameters technique.To show the validity and reliability of this algorithm,the stability of the ventilation system of Abu-Tartur Mine(one of the largest underground mine in Egypt)has been studied.

Analysis of electro-optic switches with series-coupled multiple microring resonators

In terms of the coupled mode theory, microring resonance and electro-optic modulation princeple, a reasonable project is proposed for designing an electro-optic switch with the series-coupled multiple microring resonators. The simulation and optimization are performed at the resonant wavelength of 1550 nm. The results are as follows: the core size of the microring is 1.6 μm×1.6 μm, the confined layer between the core and the electrode is 1.6 μm, the thickness of the electrode is 0.15 μm, the radius of the microring is 15.2 μm, the coupling gap between the microring and the channel is 0.14 μm, and the one between the microring and the microring is 0.6 μm, microring number M is 4, the switching voltage is 4 V, the insertion loss is 5.4 dB, and the crosstalk is –20 dB. The output spectrum is much flatter and much steeper than that of the single microring.

Optical SDMA for applying compressive sensing in WSN

In order to apply compressive sensing in wireless sensor network, inside the nodes cluster classified by the spatial correlation, we propose that a cluster head adopts free space optical communication with space division multiple access, and a sensor node uses a modulating retro-reflector for communication. Thus while a random sampling matrix is used to guide the establishment of links between head cluster and sensor nodes, the random linear projection is accomplished. To establish multiple links at the same time, an optical space division multiple access antenna is designed. It works in fixed beams switching mode and consists of optic lens with a large field of view（FOV）, fiber array on the focal plane which is used to realize virtual channels segmentation, direction of arrival sensor, optical matrix switch and controller. Based on the angles of nodes＇ laser beams, by dynamically changing the route, optical matrix switch actualizes the multi-beam full duplex tracking receiving and transmission. Due to the structure of fiber array, there will be several fade zones both in the focal plane and in lens＇ FOV. In order to lower the impact of fade zones and harmonize multibeam, a fiber array adjustment is designed. By theoretical, simulated and experimental study, the antenna＇s qualitative feasibility is validated.

Trichromatic phase manipulation of the response of a two-level medium to an arbitrarily intense probe field

The phase dependence and independence of the response of a trichromatieally driven two-level medium to an arbitrarily intense probe field have been studied. The sum of the relative phases of the sideband components of the trichromatic field compared to the central component plays a crucial role in the response of the medium. For a weak probe field, as the sum of the relative phases changes from 0 to π, multiple switching can be achieved, in which switching from normal to anomalous dispersion occurs in multiple separate frequency regimes. The remarkable dependence on the sum phase is also shown for a strong probe field. On the other hand, when the sum of the two relative phases is fixed, the changes in the respective phases have no influence on the response of the medium.

Distributed cooperative guidance for multiple missiles with fixed and switching communication topologies

This study investigates cooperative guidance problems for multiple missiles with fixed and switching directed communication topologies. A two-step guidance strategy is proposed to realize the simultaneous attack. In the first step, a distributed cooperative guidance law is designed using local neighboring information for multiple missiles to achieve consensus on range-to-go and leading angle. The second step begins when the consensus of multiple missiles is realized. During the second step, multiple missiles disconnect from each other and hit the target using the proportional navigation guidance law. First, based on the local neighboring communications, a sufficient condition for multiple missiles to realize simultaneous attack with a fixed communication topology is presented, where the topology is only required to have a directed spanning tree. Then,the results are extended to the case of switching communication topologies. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to validate the theoretical results.

Analysis of robust stability for switched systems with multiple time-delays

The sufficient conditions of delay-dependent exponential stability for switched systems and robust exponential stability for uncertain switched systems with two time-delays are presented by using average dwell time method and free-weighting matrix method.The interaction between different time-delays is considered.The sufficient conditions do not need that every subsystem is stable.The designed methods of the switching law are also given.The sufficient conditions are given in the form of linear matrix inequalities that can be solved easily.The result is proven to be valid by the simulation at last.

An all-optical matrix multiplication scheme with non-linear material based switching system

Optics is a potential candidate in information, data, and image processing. In all-optical data and information processing, optics has been used as information carrying signal because of its inherent advantages of parallelism. Several optical methods are proposed in support of the above processing. In many algebraic, arithmetic, and image processing schemes fundamental logic and memory operations are conducted exploring all-optical devices. In this communication we report an all-optical matrix multiplication operation with non-linear material based switching circuit.
